Orange Peels & Dove Wings
Orange peels surrounded Sadie like leaves around a tree. The air around her smelled like the fruit and her hands were quite sticky, which messed up the papers in her lap, but as long as what she was writing was legible, she didn't mind. What she was writing about what all that mattered, and she was glad that Rorie was going to help her.
Speaking of which, as she was finishing her last orange out of the twenty she had, her friend Rorie came over. They were on the school grounds and Sadie was sitting under a tree. She hoped that they could talk in private, but you never know. She was planning to make Rorie the co-founder of the club and right now they needed to start planning on how to expand the club and make it something big in the school. Everyone needed help, no matter what anyone else thought.
"Hey Rorie! I'm glad you came, because we have a lot to talk about...like a lot." Sadie gestured at the numerous papers around her and then for Rorie to sit nearby. "I don't know if you've ever been in a club before but I have and things might run differently, since I was in a muggle school and we didn't use magic. This club probably won't use that much magic, except for the fact that some people may have magical abilities, but we're targeting mostly first-years anyway for now because we talk to them the most, being first-years ourselves."
"W.I.N.G.S. is about helping others, to put it in the simplest terms. I believe that everyone needs to be supported in some way, whether it's to help be strong themselves and aid them with strength. I hate seeing people bullied, lonely, and sad, because I don't want to feel that way myself. I believe it's our job as fellow students of Hogwarts to help and bring harmony."
She took finally took a deep breath. "So basically we're just making the prefect's job easier for them." She showed Rorie her plans and even the design she made for the club logo, which was a glowing dove. She wanted the club to symbolize hope and peace, which was their goals.
Sadie talked more about the club for a while and then she thought about Rorie herself. She wanted to get to know her new friend better. "So what was life like for you before you came to Hogwarts? I'll share my story if you share yours," she teased.

Orange Peels & Dove Wings
The idea of W.I.N.G.S sounded really good, and even Rorie, being an authority in it, felt like she needed it.
As for sharing her story, she didn't want her new friend to judge her.
But she supposed she couldn't keep it secret for long anyway.
"Oh, my story. Well, I lived in a ghetto in London my whole life with my mum and little brother and sister. My dad abandoned us when I was seven. I'm muggle born, as you know, so all this was new to me, the magical world. It still amazes me today, like it's a dream. My mother worked as a bartender and server in the diner near us, so we didn't have too much money, especially after dad left. I helped out a lot, trying to do work for extra money. Most of my belongings are from the dumpsters or donated from a kind soul with a lot more money. Not all that interesting."
Rorie decided to leave out a few parts, like Calvin and exactly how poor the Thompsons were. She didn't want sympathy, she just wanted to be treated like an equal.
"So, Sadie, what's your story then?" She asked as they settled in to work on the paperwork.

Orange Peels & Dove Wings
Even though most people would try to comfort others when they had sob stories, Sadie wasn't the type to get sad often, and she learned from her own experiences that most people wouldn't want you do a puppy face and talk about how sad their past was. To the Gryffindor, the only thing to do is be positive and hope for the best, because usually good things happen when want them to enough.
She'd never been through what Rorie had, her own parents made decent money and were pretty well off. They never had to worried about their utilities, where they were going to sleep, and if they hygiene was alright, not saying that's what Rorie had to go through. But Sadie liked to make a friends and she didn't care at all about their past, unless they did something absolutely terrible like her own father. But Rorie was just a good kid who happened to be in a bad situation, like many people, and W.I.N.G.S needed someone just like her in the club.
Sadie grinned at Rorie. "I think you should definitely come visit or even stay over at my house over the holidays, my parents won't mind...although have eight kids in one house might be a pain. But my room is spacey enough that it shouldn't make that much of a difference. Most of my friends who are like you don't like being- well, they just don't like when people treat them like a kicked puppy, and I understand that so I'm not going to treat you like that at all."
"I believe that everyone makes themselves, not where they come from. You seem like a really special girl to me. My sister Penny- she's a Slytherin- she looks down at people like you- it's because she thinks that she's a Pureblood, which she might be, but that doesn't mean anyone she judge anyone. One day you could be the Minister of Magic and you could be her boss!" Sadie shrugged. "Well, if you want to be one, that is."
Sadie wondered if she herself could be one. She wasn't very interested in politics in general, but the wizard world always fascinated her.
She gathered up the orange peels and threw them away, coming back to sit next to Rorie. "Well, I was adopted," Sadie began. "I think my mother died, I'm not sure because no one knows what happened to her, but my father...well, he's in Azkaban, for being a serial killer and insanity." She left out the part about how he said he wanted to even kill her when she last visited him. That just would bring unwanted tears. "My mothers- I have two, their married- adopted me when I was I think three or four, I forget, and their names are Catherine and Elvira, they were both Gryffindors like us."
"They adopted my other brothers and sisters, the last one being my little brother William who is seven. Four of my siblings are in Hogwarts: Gregory, Barry, Tabitha, and Penny, who I've told you about. Gregory is a seventh year Gryffindor, Barry and Tabitha are twin fifth years in Hufflepuff, and Penny is a third year Slytherin. And I'm pretty sure my little sister Paige, who is Penny's birth sister, is going to be a Ravenclaw. She wants to be the Minister of Magic so bad."
Sadie thought for a moment. "Actually, I forgot- my mum, Elvira, she was actually in Ravenclaw. I forget sometimes." She shook her head. "So yeah, I've been with them so long, we're just like a big family of people with so many interests, but I love it, since they help me with making new ideas. My sister Tabitha helped me with my new club idea. We were talking about how sad it was that the bullying problem in Hogwarts wasn't contained really well."
Sadie placed a hand on Rorie's shoulder. "But we're here to solve that, aren't we?" She laughed and rested against the tree. "Do you have any secret talents you'd like to share?"

Orange Peels & Dove Wings
Rorie was extremely elated to have an invitation to spend the holidays with Sadie, and the sound of a ton of people didn't bother her, though she was a little worried about this Penny she talked about.
"Oh, secret talents, well... I'm good at mechanical stuff and fixing things, obviously everyone can do that with magic, but I could do it in the muggle world. I can navigate stuff really good," Rorie paused, realizing a grammatical mistake that would have been fine in the ghetto but made her sound like a caveman with proper people, "and for some reason I never die."
The last one sounded really weird, but it was true. Rorie rotated her wrist so that Sadie could see the long scar running down her arm, and showed her two others, one on her ankle and the other in the crook of her neck running down to her tailbone, but she only showed up until where her uniform cut it off.
"Yeah, I should've died in these events, plus more, but for some reason I don't." She shrugged, laughing. "Maybe I'm immortal!"
At least, in that moment, with someone she felt comfortable enough with to call her best friend, she felt immortal.
