Peace and Quiet...
Xander breathed a small sigh mixed between relief and awe at the library. His new sanctuary.
After unloading his trunk, well - after someone else unloaded his trunk - he had poliety been introduced in the Slytherin common room. Slytherin - the house of champions his mother had called it. More like a house of up-themselves windbags.
It wasn't that he particularly disliked speaking with other people, it was just that they were so... fake. The problem with Slytherins was that they tended to ingratiate themselves with people simply so they could use them. The questions that they had asked, whilst friendly, were often a test to see how useful someone could be in helping them achieve their own goals. Xander's own family came from a long line of Slytherins and Ravenclaws, so family gatherings were often a 'we do this better than you' exercise in one-upmanship. If he ever had to listen to another Malfoy/Lestrange/Nott/Wallowson argument again it would be too soon...
But here - here there was peace and quiet. The sounds of quills and the smell of old velium. Here he could simply read a book and learn something without the constant need of impressing others.
Casting an appraising eye around the library, Xander's eyes first fell on the restricted section naturally. Wisdom prevailed though and he, after taking down a book on what appeared to be transfiguration, nestled himself into one of the corner desks, pulling his green-lined robe over his silky black hair, in an attempt to lose himself in yet another wonderful book. Hopefully this one had spells...
A slight noise got his attention however, and he knew that perhaps this wasn't such a quiet place at all.

Peace and Quiet...
Lara, though she had been at Hogwarts nearly a week, had yet to step foot into the school library.
Mostly this was because she was scared. Scared she’d see one of her brothers, both of whom seemed to spend more time in the library than in their own dorms. Scared of what they’d say when they saw her - or, more likely, what they wouldn’t say, since they had probably been told not to speak to her anymore. Scared, too, that when she looked in their eyes, she wouldn’t see hatred, or anger, but pity. She didn’t need to be pitied. She didn’t want that.
But today, she had promised herself, would be the day. She would go into the library, get a jumpstart on her classwork, maybe see if they had some Muggle books she could check out to read for fun. She’d be fine. Her brothers were in the Great Hall - she’d checked. They’d only just started eating.
She’d be fine.
She took a deep, steadying breath, and then entered the library.
It was stunning. She’d known it would be, of course, and she’d had a vague idea of what it looked like beforehand, but seeing it in person was different. The shelves went higher than she’d thought they could possibly go, lined with more books than she’d seen in her life. The grandness of it all, the elaborate detailing, the majestic wood gleaming under the warm light… It took her breath away.
She forced herself to focus. She probably didn’t have too much time to spend loitering in the library. She was here on a mission - coursework, and then fun reading, and then split. She headed off toward what she hoped to be the right direction, moving quickly to avoid drawing attention to herself. She didn’t want any of her siblings’ friends to notice her, if they were here.
She managed to find the Charms book she’d wanted easily enough. The library was massive, but it was well-organized, making it easy enough for students to navigate the endless shelves. The only problem? She couldn’t reach it. The spine of the book was a mere inch or so from the tips of her fingers when she stood on her toes. She let out a soft, annoyed huff, spinning away from the shelf.
She could use her wand, but she worried that she’d mess up the levitation spell and somehow cause some sort of disaster. She didn’t want to risk making a scene. She glanced around for a step stool but found none in the vicinity. She did, however, spot a first-year boy sitting close by, alone, reading a transfiguration book. She stepped closer to him, clearing her throat before speaking.
“Hey, I was wondering if you could give me a hand? I can’t quite reach the book I need, but you look like you’d be tall enough to get it. D’you mind?”

“Hey, I was wondering if you could give me a hand? I can’t quite reach the book I need, but you look like you’d be tall enough to get it. D’you mind?"
The voice of a young girl abruptly dispelled Xander's peace and quiet, asking for assistance in retrieving a book. It was servants work, as his maternal side would say, but helping others always brought a measure of benefit. He looked over to see a face he recognised from his own common room, but given he was new he had not spoken to... Lara was it.
"Sure." Xander gently placed the book down, noting the page number he had read up to, before standing up and taking the hood off his head. Walking over to where the girl had been trying to obtain the volume in vain, he noticed something rather amusing. He reached out for the book and was a good 3 inches away from it - he was shorter than the girl asking for help! Nevertheless, he would not be beaten by a bookshelf, so summoning up his courage he drew out his wand.
The air and power in the room was palpable as Xander drew on his might, the world seemed to quake as he waved the wand in the air - and flipped the object over to grab the pointy end of it. Reaching up towards the book with his wand he caught the book's spine on the handle of his wand, and with a tug caused the book to fall out into his other waiting hand.
"There you go." he said politely, but no warmth or humour seemed to be conveyed in his words as he handed the book to Lara.
He quietly walked back to his seat, sitting down and opening the transmutation book carefully to the page he had left it at. His gaze didn't leave the page as he clearly stated somewhat disinterestedly, "Wyvenston's work there isn't bad - just boring. Try Flitwicks - its just below where I got that one. He writes kinda funny, but there are useful ways to use charms in duals and the like. Well, hopefully it's there - the Ravenclaw's get it out every now and then."

He strode quietly into the library, sticking on a childish smile. He may be ten but he looked like he was seven, and many people mistook him as a child, much to his annoyance, but, he used it to his advantage. His steely grey eyes sparkled in practiced awe, his lower half of his face was still hidden behind his ever-present medical mask, though the bottom of his eyes were partially covered, as if he were, indeed, smiling. Dredging up energy he doesn't have, he ran around the library scanning books with quite precision. Letting out a small cheer, he went to the potions section and quickly grabbed a book that he could actually reach, and, tucking it under his arm, dashed off to the charms and transfiguration sections, respectfully snatching a book from each. Then he headed tot he Defense Against Dark Arts row and reached for three of the books for the subject. He knew that he'd most likely need to know how to defeat beings such as the ones depicted in the books, and he'd rather not die when he meets one. He then went to spells and grabbed a singular book.
After he finished his scavenger hunt he skipped over to a table, childish façade up like usual in public. Sighing in contentment he hit the books, unlike a lot of children his age, he knew the worth of books, and due to the wizarding world's dangers, Merlin knows he has to be prepared for troubles in the future. So he opened the book about potions.

Rorie ran into the library as fast as she could, panting and stomping. This, obviously, made the librarian scold her for the noise, to which Rorie muttered, "There are more important things on my mind right now, thanks."
Rorie had just had her first encounter with bullies, a third year slytherin boy and his gang. They chased her, trying to steal her bookbag full of supplies. Her mother had had a hard enough time getting the money to buy that, she needed to protect the items at all costs.
Besides, she also had her most prized possession in the bag, and if she lost that, she would be really upset.
After catching her breath and making sure the bullies weren't coming, she decided to make use of the room she had run into for safety. Walking slowly around the bookshelves at all the clean and crisp books, Rorie pondered how much money it took to make these. In the muggle ghetto they didn't have any books at all, let alone huge rooms full of them. Walking the aisles, she lost all sight of where she was going, just admiring the beautiful books and the smell of paper. Then she walked right into a boy that looked seven, confused and startled. Apon resting her eyes on the slytherin crest on his robes, she frightfully backed away from him, afraid that another round of tag would start. Not taking her eyes off of him, she stumbled backwards, walking slowly away. Losing footing, she fell backwards onto the ground, her bookbag spilling everywhere. She rushed to pick up the things, putting away all the books and papers, and stopping for a long time on a light blue and black striped tie. She stared at it, holding it tightly in her palms. She noticed the boy and the other kids that were with him approaching her, and squealed with terror. Standing up fast and bracing herself for a fight.
The older Griffindors said that Slytherins were trouble. Rorie thought that the earlier incident proved that.

He glanced up sharply at the squeal, noticing a girl getting surrounded by some of his own house-mates, which screwed his face up in disgust for his own house.
Pathetic.
Though all of his emotion was hidden under his medical mask, and all anyone could see one the outside was a loathing glare. He sharply stood up from his table, hands behind his back, and stalked towards the group standing between them and the Gryffindor girl, according to her robes. His steely eyes looked the third-years up and down coldly. A surprising look on a boy that seemed no older then eight.
"Hello my dear house mates," He gave them a sickly-sweet grin, his voice dripping with poisonous honey, What seems to be the problem here? Are you picking on this Gryffindor girl?" His sweet act dropped into a one of chilling loathing, How utterly pathetic," His mouth twisted into a snarl under the mask, "What are you? Kindergarten bullies? Disgraceful whelps, you're a stain upon the Slytherin house, Hogwarts ought to kick you out so it won't slowly rot away because of your impudent actions", He stalked forwards, deadly glare full of killing intent shining sharply in the candlelight, "Squealing kittens, weak puppies, worthless worms," with each verbal jab he stepped closer to the group, and, despite his size, looked absolutely terrifying, Your immaturity is worthless to the wizarding society, you'll only make everything even more decayed then it already is, you should just leave, why don't you go to muggle school, where you belong, you'll fit right in with their own bullies, maybe you'll even waste your potential together and live in your mother's basements," His pale face glowed early with the light of the library, his eyes were to cold, too apathetic, and looked utterly out of place on the boy, the hood draped over his head just seemed to build on that, making his orbs shine slightly in the deep shadows, the mask hiding the lower half of his face hid most emotion, making him unpredictable.
In short he looked like a villain.

Out of all the places to be, Sadie chose to go the library, and for only one reason: to find somewhere finish planning her club idea. She'd heard of so many clubs and what they were doing and she knew that her idea was going to be a good one. After all, it involved helping people who were being bullied like the poor girl nearby.
Sadie was sitting with some other students at a table, all of them doing some work and chattering at times, which was the only thing she liked about the library. She didn't read books, unless they were about art and design. Although magic was a type of art, she wasn't found of the tiny text and long pages, especially the weight of the books. She swore that some of the books here weighed as much as herself, after watching some students struggle carrying their own, but those were mostly older students.
Speaking of which, Sadie's older brother, Barry, who was a Hufflepuff, was sitting across from her, buried im his books of who new what, but it looked a lot like potions. She could see that he was a little stressed so she didn't bother him.
Sadie looked back at the girl who was getting bullied. She was going to do something but she noticed that another boy, maybe a Slytherin like the gang of bullies, who was defending the girl. Sadie wasn't the type to judge people based off of their title or what other said about them. She didn't think that Slytherin were evil and mean, but she could tell that they did have some sort of darker aura about them, not that it was always a bad thing. But in this case it was.
"Your immaturity is worthless to the wizarding society, you'll only make everything even more decayed then it already is, you should just leave, why don't you go to muggle school, where you belong, you'll fit right in with their own bullies, maybe you'll even waste your potential together and live in your mother's basements."
Sadie let out a snort but covered her mouth hastily. She let out a series of coughs when some people looked at her but she, and her brother, couldn't stop smiling at the Slytherin's retort. He sure did know how to respond to mean bullies...with mean words.
The boy looked very strange. He had a hood over his head, his skin was pale, and actually he looked kind of scary with his emotionless face. Sadie wasn't even sure if he were helping the girl because it was the right thing to or if it was something to do. But nevertheless, she was sure that the bullies wouldn't just step down to someone of his age, even if he looked so sinister.
Sadie Lou stepped over to them and put a hand on the girl's shoulder, guiding her away from the boys. Speaking to the boys, she said, "I think it's kind of pitiful that you pick on young girl for something so belittling as messing with things that don't even belong to you. If you did that in front of your mum, what do you think she'd do? I'm pretty sure she wouldn't laugh and giggle like hyenas like you guys, and if she would...well, I guess it runs in the family."
She faced the somewhat helpful Slytherin. "Thank you for being a kind gentleman and helping a damsel in distress. You'll be rewarded with this firm handshake." And she gave him one, even if he didn't particularly want one. "You're welcome to join us if you want, but they aren't." She glared at the other guys.
Sadie guided the girl over to her table. "You can sit with us. This is my brother, Barry, and he won't bite, even if he wanted."
"I'll try..." muttered Barry from under his books.
She gave the girl a warm grin and patted her hand. "I'm Sadie Lou McAfee, first-year Gryffindor, but you can call me Sadie, if you'd like. Barry here is a fifth-year Hufflepuff." He muttered a barely greeting.
"So, seeing that I've somewhat saved you, what do you say about paying me back with helping me with something of incredible importance?"

He stood there blankly as some random Gryffindor stepped in and belittled the boys even more, and just stared blankly at her as she shook his hand, much to his discomfort.
"You're welcome to join us if you want, but they aren't."
".....Eh?" He gave the girl a confused look, she was so....forward, and people like her often annoyed him a little, though he wasn't the type to show any of such emotions on the surface. He continued deadpanning as word vomit spewed out of her mouth about her brother, who replied with a hesitant 'I'll try', much to Azaiah's amusement. He looked back at the girl, who had decided he should join their group. Now, he wasn't the type to go to clubs, but he might as well play along.
"Ah...what exactly do you want me to join you with?" He tilted his head, the shadows over his eyes now gone showing a medical mask covering his mouth and nose, and tiered bags resting under his eyes, standing out against his sickly pale skin. He had produced a Dr. Pepper at some time and was now sipping it through his mask, leaving no stains, nor any sign that he had removed said mask. One of Azaiah's many mysterious qualities.
Honestly he wanted to get back to studying, but he might as well indulge himself in whatever amusement this girl would bring, and he'd choose weather or not to join her, maybe become acquaintances.
He sipped his drink once again.

Peace and Quiet...
The boy, though he looked quite scary, had saved her from what she predicted was another round of hide and seek with some bullies. And so did the girl, Sadie, she said her name was. She trotted over to where the two heroes were sitting, next to another older Hufflepuff she couldn't recognize. Deciding to thank them, she finished approaching the table.
"Uh, hey. I just wanted to thank you guys for what you just did. Much obliged. Oh, and, by the way, I'm Rorie Thompson."
Rorie felt her cheeks getting warm, embarassed by how much of a clutz she had been. Back home in the ghetto, she could protect herself and fight off armed criminals that were three times her size and age. The new world that had opened up for her, the magical wizarding world, had flustered and confused her, throwing her off balance. She needed to gather herself and act normal, like she did back home. Careless, confident, and strong. Not like some weak and pathetic puppy that couldn't take care of themselves.
She tried to smile. "I'm not normally that much of a clutz. I'm just a little all over the place with the new school. I'm a muggle-born, never knew there was a wizarding world out there until I got my letter. Everything is still new to me," she blurted out. "Oh, great job, Rorie, that was more information than they needed," she scolded herself in her mind, before realizing she had said it out loud. She covered her mouth with her hand, even more embarassed by that mess up.
Gosh, Rorie felt like she acted as if she had just crawled out of a hole and didn't know how to socialize.
Peace and Quiet...
"You're welcome, Rorie! Being nice should be something done all the time, but some people can help it. And no worries, it's somewhat expected of us first-years to be clumsy, I won't hold it against you."
Hadn't really expecting for the Slytherin to join them, Sadie bad been speaking to the girl who'd been bullied but she wasn't the type to exclude decent people from her creative projects, especially one that involved helping other people. As always when she was sharing something big, Sadie's eyes gleamed as she smiled and took a deep breath. "Imagine helping more than more than one helpless person like you did before," she began.
Sadie proceeded in standing up on her chair, placing one foot on the table and gesturing her hands like a valiant knight. "T'is I, Sadie Lou McAfee, who dares face the darkness that arises in the hearts of fellow humans like ourselves, who dares fight for the weak, who dares make a light in the woods of darkness that so many of our friends wander through, only asking for a shred of hope in a dark, cruel world."
She then stood all the way on the table and raised her arms out in towards everyone in sight, ignoring ghe frowning faculty. My dear friends, aren't you tired of being faced with constant sadness, anger, jealousy, guilt, loniness...even apathy? Don't you ever feel like you mean nothing, like no one wants or needs you, like you have no purpose in our magic and non-magic world? Don't you tire of discrimination, confusion, disgust, and rage?
Sadie gazed around, her eyes falling upon the Slytherin, taking in his mask, his tired eyes, the fact that he was drinking soda without leaving any stain, which a marvel itself. But that didn't matter at the moment. She stepped down onto her chair again and faced him, not that far from him, actually.
She rest both of her hands on his shouldees. "My dear friend, what I want you to do is so important, it could change the student life of Hogwarts forever, and if you help me with this mighty task, you'll be known as a legend for centuries to come as...wait, what's your name?"
Suddenly realizing that her hands with still on his shoulders, she removed them and hid her blush by scratching her face. She coughed and said, "Anyway,...I would like for you to join my club!" She grinned and clasped her hands behind her back, waiting for Rorie and the Slytherin's answer.
