Bea truly loved coming back to Hogwarts. It was an amazing feeling to no longer be a little first year, instead having moved up to second. A sense of power and importance always filled Bea when she thought about it. She remembered last year, and her feelings of confusion and utter bewilderment at being at Hogwarts. She'd hated the feeling that others were looking down on her for being a first year, although that was where everyone started. At the bottom of the pack.

It was slightly cool, the courtyard filling with a breeze that made goose bumps raise on her skin. She's dressed for the sunshine today, skirt, stockings and school blouse. Her jumper was back in her dorm, laying useless on the top of her bed. All well. She wasn't going to go halfway around the castle just to get it. She'd just have to persevere. Classes had just finished for the day, and for that Bea was glad. It had been a hectic day, between potions and charms and whatnot. All the talk had been about the upcoming Ball, Hexwizard Tournament and the returning international students. Although Bea loved to talk about them, there was only so much speculation she could handle.

On the other hand, Kairi quite enjoyed being a first year, the novelty of it all and having the ability to look up at students who are more experienced than her was beautiful to her. She wondered if people were willing to help her if she had questions, and if she could make meaningful connections with those people if they decided to do so. And if not, she wasn't entitled to their help either, school life can get quite busy even for muggles, so she understood if someone would rather focus on their studies or anything else, really.

The only problem was that she was a bit shy and reserved, to simply go to a random stranger and ask questions felt entitled even though it really was not, and she did not want to come across as annoying, or anything like that. She knew that she could simply ask a prefect, preferably from her house, but then the connection wouldn't feel quite as genuine. The way she saw things, was that the prefects had a duty to help her, it was sort of their job, and they didn't necessarily do so out of kindness. The relationship would be similar to the one she had to the person at the counter when she went to buy bread at the bakery, there wasn't a real chance to develop a friendship, at least not in Kairi's mind, and so it made that option very unappealing.

So, she was musing, about how to best approach someone and she had made some attempts before, which resulted in her and some other girls in her year enganging in some little bits of small talk. It wasn't ideal, what with her actually hating small talk and all, but it was progress. In fact, those girls had talked to her first, all she did was to be around them until they felt like initating a conversation.

In retrospect, that, too wasn't the most ideal. One day she would have to learn how to start a conversation herself. She would have to learn to find the courage to simply talk to someone and see what happens, so...

Why not today?

Her eyes rested on a girl that seemed to be her age, or perhaps slightly older than her, who was not, unlike Kairi, wearing both her uniform and her coat and seemed to be dressed a bit on the lighter side for how cool the weather was on that specific day. Kairi liked the cold herself, and was quite comfortable with bearing it, so she wasn't necessarily surprised by her choice of attire, but she wondered if that could be a good icebreaker.

She ponders for a few moments and then, with a firm nod to herself, she decided that yes, that was a perfect opportunity. She just had to stay brave and commit to just.. talking to this girl.

With a quicker-than-usual but not hectic step, she approaches the girl and, if she was sitting on a bench, she would sit right next to her, keeping enough distance between the two but definitely closer than most people would. If she, however, is standing, she'd just walk until she's in front of Bea and either way she would offer her a gentle smile.

As she goes to speak, her lower lip trembles slightly, and the nerves catch up to her. She feels the word begin to suffocate themselves inside her throat and a big feeling of uncertainty overtakes her mind, but... She perseveres. After half a second of awkward silence after her mouth had already begun opening she finally speaks:

"..A-Are you not cold? It's quite chilly today."

Beatrice opened her eyes, having closed them to rest her eyes for a minute. Blinking slightly,, she looked up to see another girl there. She was younger perhaps, dressed in a warmer way that Bea was envious off. That jumper looked warm and cozy. Bea's arms felt even more cold just looking at the plush threads covering her. Bea's lips turned up t the corners when she heard the girl's question. "Just a bit yes. But A'm not goin' back to my dorm just for it," she nodded at the girl's jumper. "Goin' back to Ravenclaw Tower would cost me the light."

Which was true. Even though it was September and just turned Spring, it was still cool and the days were still short compared to Summer. Bea was determined to enjoy as much light and sun as she could, even if it was chilly. "A could always use the Hot Air Charm or Incendio to warm me up." She wrinkled her nose at the next thought whilst smiling, "Although A think the latter would get me detention." Bea didn't think the Professors or Prefects would take kindly to her lighting a random stack of twigs alight, when she could have just gone inside or grabbed her jumper from her room. "Ye seem to be cold though...Ye should layer up underneath." It was something she'd learnt early on. Layering up underneath the outer school clothes was a godsend. It allowed her to be slightly warmer than having thin cotton covering her when she should have wool.

It took a moment for Kairi to realize that Beatrice's eyes were closed, by the time she figured it out she had already begun speaking and, unaware that she had simply closed them for a moment, she felt her heart sink a bit, wondering if she had disrupted this girl's rest.

Fortunately, however, the ravenclaw seemed eager enough to speak and didn't seem upset in any regards so Kairi did not act upon her worries and, as she listened to the girl speak they subsided all together. She smiled widely, and nodded.

Honestly, the castle was enormous. It's no wonder she'd take that long to go to the ravenclaw's common room and back. She may not get lost half... three quarters of the time like me, but, still! I don't blame her at all

"I wouldn't either, and my dormitor is much closer from what I've heard."

She wasn't quite sure where exactly ravenclaw tower was located, but she knew that it could hardly beat the cellar in terms of distance, considering they were right by the entrance of the school.

"I actually don't know any spells just yet, we had a short introduction, but I can't say I know very many. Is Incendio dangerous? Or why would it give you detention?"

Kairi really liked this girl's accent and so she added a tiny giggle as she responded to her and asked her question, a giggle that for now would remain unexplained, but with how brightly she was smiling when waiting for Beatrice to continue talking, it was obvious that she was quite excited to be talking to some one.

"I'm not cold at all!" This time her reply is a bit more whiny and childish, and she offers a small, yet playful pout before relaxing into a smile once more. "I could be wearing just a t-shirt and be fine, mostly. Well, I'd likely get a cold, and be really sick for a week or so, but.. The cold wouldn't bother me in the moment, younno? It's.. much more bearable than the heat. I love Winter a lot. But I do hate summer."

She nods, proudly at that. She was glad that she could share that information, even though she went kind of on a random tangent. Still, cold was not an issue, and Beatrice ought to know that.

Bea smiled at the girl quizzically. The girl hadn't actually expressed what house she was in, although Bea suspected it was either Slytherin or Hufflepuff. Guessing from her demeanor though, Bea guessed Hufflepuff. "A Hufflepuff are ye? Used to those warm fires." It was a reference to times before, with the the Hufflepuff Common Room being set on fire. The girl probably had no idea since it happened years prior even before she had come to Hogwarts, but it was always a pervading joke when she met Hufflepuffs, it was that well known.

Rubbing her arms due to the chilly wind pervading the courtyard, she squinted in thought at the girl. "I don't know. A part from class, I've never actually had to cast the charm. It certainly is dangerous to cast spells. Which I'm sure ye'll learn in ye classes." It was early in the school year and Bea was sure the girl would be fine. "I'd suggest signin' up to duelling if ye want to cast spells. I signed at the end of first year." It was something she'd discovered she had a real passion for duelling and hoped she would be on the team sometime soon. In the meantime, she'd focus on herbology and learning about plants. It would help her on her families farm, especially when she went back home for school break. She smiled, before it died down quickly. "A don't believe A introduced meself. A'm Beatrice. Beatrice Langstreth. Nice te meet ye!"

Kairi was taken aback from Bea being able to guess her house so easily, well, mostly because she had already forgotten that she had told the girl that her common room was the closest to the courtyard, because she didn't feel like she belonged in Hufflepuff and was heavily convinced that the sorting hat made a mistake.

"Yep that's correct. Though I do quite enjoy the cold, I must admit"

She giggles cutely and then nods, blissfully unaware of the 'badgers on fire' incident.

Then the conversation continues, and they're talking about Incendio again and how spells, in general, are dangerous to cast outside of class. Kairi, in all her ignorance, naivety and interest in magic however disagreed, to an extent:

"Even if they are dangerous, I don't think there should ever be a moment where we should be scared to cast magic. In fact, I hope to study the various charms I will have access to well enough so that I may feel safe in casting aplenty outside of class!"

She then nodded and smiled at the suggestion to join the dueling club, but ultimately shook her head:
"I will sign up for dueling, but not until I feel at ease with my wand and my spellwork. I don't think I could endure embarrassing myself in front of a large crowd."

And with that, she quickly extends her arm, offering an handshake:
"Oh, right! My bad! I'm Kairi. Kairi Glamateux. It's my pleasure to meet you!"

Bea pondered over the other girl. She was right in a way, but a little niave if you asked Bea. Perhaps that was a first year thing? She wouldn't know now, and she had more important things to worry about.

Taking the proffered hand, she shook it, offering a generous smile to Kairi. "It's nice to meet you. I was sure you'd be a Huffle. Most of my best friends are Hufflepuffs. I could pick you all a mile away." She cocked her head at Kairi's next statement, eyebrows scrunching in a playful think, "You enjoy it...yet you are shivering?" She laughed, a bit of sarcasm leaking through her voice, which was probably a little unfair but still, "That doesn't seem like the kind of enjoyment I want."

Her smile waned as Kairi continued the conversation, and Bea shook her head at Kairi's misunderstanding. "No, I'm not sayin' you have to be scared of magic. Quite the opposite in fact. But you should be cautious of when to use it. There are times and places for it." Perhaps it was because she'd grown up with a muggle father, who had brought Bea and her younger sister up not using magic. Even her mother, who was a pureblood and had grown up accustomed to magic, and like not using magic for certain tasks. "Classes will teach you all about proper wand work and stuff. Also," she smirked, "duelling is a great way to practice. Especially Charms. I'm sure you'll have fun when you sign up and get onto the team."
