Interview with a Shark pt. III PV Emma & Eris Cl

In her time at Hogwarts, the Library had always been a hub for students looking for a place to appear busy, while not actually doing anything of worth. Several years later, and it seemed that fact, anyway, had not changed. Many students had congregated in the enormous room, their heads huddled together around tables, or whispering in clandestine circles in the stacks. Not doubt, they were chattering about their latest violation of the rules, or which boys they thought were 'dreamy'... or plotting how to get themselves killed, sneaking into the Restricted section or the Forbidden Forrest.

Only one or two appeared to actually be doing school work, unsurprisingly, bent over books with a sense that they were actually attempting to absorb what was written on the pages. These, decidedly, were the best subjects for her next focus of interviews.

The studious ones were always eager to prove their worth, and no one talked more freely and openly than a child wanting to show the world how important she was. Self worth was a fragile thing at so young an age and Magda knew all too well how to exploit it to her best advantage. Already, she'd gotten a number of juicy bits to use in her articles, but she needed just a touch more color... and certainly, this is where she was bound to find it.

Approaching the table to two girls sat at, she lowered herself into a chair (a small feat for a woman of her grand stature), and steepling long, slender fingers on the table, she smiled with all the warmth of an eel living in an ice pond, misty eyes glittering with the unkindled light of anticipation, "Afternoon, my dears. Magda Fleischer, Daily Prophet. I've been asked to conduct a few interviews at Hogwarts and I was hoping you wouldn't mind sparing a few moments to answer some questions? Shouldn't take long, at all."

Not even a week had passed and Emma had already made her way to the humungous library that enhabited Hogwarts. She found it ridiculous and tedious, but she had to do what she had to do in order to maintain her academic average, and perhaps raise it (but that was unlikely). After the Hogwarts Express ride had chugged to a stop, she didn't have a clue to what she'd be getting herself into this year. She was excited.

Remembering her first journey to the library, she smirked although it was nothing to be beaming about. She had made two enemies and had disordered the library harmony of pages turning, and children's feet walking around. Why did she care? She didn't. The fact that she stood up for a friend was almost enough to make up for the enemies she never ever knew she had. Almost.

She heaved a herbology textbook out of her bag, placed it on the table, and let out an inaudible sigh, after all, it was still a library no matter how much the other students loved to come to chat. It was much easier to sit beside a girl who preferred studying to gossiping, but how did she know, she had never seen the girl in her year at Hogwarts.

Hoping she hadn't caused too much noise or trouble, she waved silently to the strangely short girl, who probably hadn't noticed her anyway. She was partly glad, more time to study the textbook... that was partly a lie.

Her head bobbed in the direction of a voice that was most definitely not a student. Presumably a professor, but as she looked up she saw a slim, tall woman looking back at her and the other student.
"I've been asked to conduct a few interviews at Hogwarts and I was hoping you wouldn't mind sparing a few moments to answer some questions?"
On an ordinary basis, she would have continued to continue to read the textbook, although this was no ordinary day. Was Hogwarts so famous reporters came here frequently, her question had already been answered. She nodded as she spoke in a louder whisper. "Sure, why not, I suppose. Take your time." Reading isn't my number one priority.

Eris didn't come to the library to study, but it was easy to lose herself in the chaos of childhood and her second year at Hogwarts. Already, Max had broken his arm, Phaedra had grown taller, and Rhea's hair was blonder. It was insane, and Eris felt left behind with her small height. The only redeeming thing about this year was the way she had finally learned to master the metamorphamagus ability. Her hair was now longer than it had been in years, tied into pigtails that made Eris grin whenever she stared at them.

She liked having natural color hair. It was easier to be avoided when she wanted to be alone, and right now Eris wanted to be alone. She sat in the corner of the library, hair spilling into her eyes as she poured over her comic books. They had been a gift from Reid Kovacs, for her birthday. It had been amazing, being gifted presents from her friends, especially after her own father had forgot. Even though Eris loved her friends, sometimes it was best to be alone, away from the drama.

Humming, she flipped another page, only looking up when another girl sat down at her table. Eris easily recognized her as another second year, and squinted up at her, waving back with a pouting expression on her childish small face. Eris did not like Ravenclaws, besides for Celynne Gray (What a shock, Dorian having a sister!) and Phaedra, and Adam, but he really didn't count. The girl was conflicted on what to think about Kaegen. She had once considered him a best friend, but Kaegen had gotten strangely over protective of Eris, and had even taken the liberty to beat someone up on Eris's behalf, when she really hadn't needed that. She could handle her own fights, if needed.

Eris decided it would be a nice day to be friendly, even if she wasn't up for companionship, waving back at the Ravenclaw. She was reading a herbology book, so she was clearly there to study. There wasn't any homework yet, not that Eris was aware of. Maybe she was one of those ravenclaws, who studied to get ahead in their classes for fun.

Sighing, Eris opened her mouth to ask what the heck the girl was doing, before a woman came up to the table. Eris instantly snapped her comic book shut, raising an eyebrow. When she introduced herself, Eris sighed. She had met with one reporter already, and was not a fan of the vultures of the daily prophet.

Still, the girl couldn't resist a chance to be famous for something other than her infamous family drama. Grinning up at the freakish lady, Eris assumed control of the conversation, putting the skills her grandfather had taught her to the test.

"Of course, ask away. My name is Eris Fawley, for the record."

Children... so easy. So gullible. They all wanted to be someone... to be important. It was almost too simple, getting them to agree to these interviews - and already, with the few she had spoken to, she had enough to sink Hogwarts into a nasty bog of rumors and trouble, but more could never hurt...

"Oh! Wonderful. So glad to hear." She said, her voice still conspiratorially hushed, as her eyes flickered around the room. It gave the impression she didn't want to be overheard - as though others might want in on their little game of information, and of course, these two precious girls should have all the attention to themselves.

"Now them... Eris... and...?" She gestured to the other girl while she fished a quill from her bag, and with a snap of her fingers, the feathered writing implement floated in the air, followed by a stream of yellowed parchment, "First and foremost, do tell me... How do you feel about all the intensity at Hogwarts last year? This Masked Menace mess? Do you feel safe? Do you feel like the professors are doing everything they can to protect you? Do you even think they can? They're awfully young, aren't they? That's not exactly common for Hogwarts, or so I hear. What do you think? Do you like your professors? How about the Headmaster? Be candid... anything you don't feel comfortable publishing stays between us girls."

Grinning, she snapped again, and the quill began to dance in fluid motion across the parchment page, "Go on."

Interviews scarred her. Her comprehension was absolutely terrible, it generally took two or three attempts in order for the question to be fully locked inside of her mind. She didn't want to irritate the Prophet reporter or the Gryffindor named Eris, it was never a good first impression, plus, who knew what was going into that newspaper? She still found it hard to listen to the reporter despite the quietness and the occasional harmony of pages flipping inside of books, and the footsteps of those that had decided to wander around the library.

Emma had been particularly curious about what the Prophet reporter had to ask two mere second years, after all, what information could she provide? Something like 'Most lessons are great, Hogwarts is so diverse and amazing in general' she had guessed, and frankly it sounded odd.

"Emma Hill," she finished for the reporter. Perhaps she had made the wrong choice, after all, it was rather a nickname than her full name. Then again, many people simply knew her as 'Emma', perhaps she had made the correct choice. Mentally, she shrugged off the thought. Afterward, she had been bombarded with more questions than she could remember.

The Masked Man, the security of the professors, and the professor. That was all she could remember at one time. "Intensity is always hard to handle, but its easy to forget about the important things when you're having loads of fun. The Professors are amazing, honestly, and they're doing all they can to keep things in order, and all of them know exactly what to do. I feel safe."

She was tempted to ask her age, in a rather rude tone, but she concealed her opinions and spoke only about the questions asked of her. It was rather difficult to commence a debate with an adult, especially one that could have spread rumors about you, than a student at Hogwarts. Continuing her quiet tone, she continued to speak.

"New professors I suppose? Professor Henley is amazing. She so kind, sweet, and lovable. Everyone loves her, she's a role model for everyone. Professor Wordsworth is great, he brings a flare to History of Magic and makes it fun for everyone. He changes the meaning of Hufflepuff, not to mention, I'm looking forward to dueling this year with him. Well, not with him." She let out a snicker.

"It's so sad to see some of the professors go, I grew up at Hogwarts and I sort of just got used to them. All of them brung something to the table of Hogwarts. It'll never be the same without them, but it will be fun getting to learn about the new professors." She caught her breath and looked around the room for something to distract her, perhaps giving the Gryffindor a chance to speak. She had never talked so much in her entire life. This was all new for her and she was kind of relishing the absolute attention given to her.

How many more questions could a woman possibly remember inside of her head? It was overwhelming, but her turn was over, it was almost tempting to turn to the girl. Still, she knew how to control her behavior.

The reporter asked her questions, and Emma was keen to answer, so Eris took the moment to gather her thoughts, listening to the ravenclaw with a glossy eyed dismissal of her words. Eris merely snorted at Emma's stupidity, leaning back in her chair with an undignified squeak of wood upon wood. She waited for the gullible girl to finish sucking up to the professors that weren't even near them, before letting out a laugh, unable to keep in her bitterness.

At the start of the year, she had considered the professors saints, just as all young children idolized their teachers. Quickly, Eris had learned which professors she disliked, but she had also never grown close to any of them, as they all left and came so quickly. Mellowrose, The Herbology Ladies, Valtome, and all the others that Eris had interacted with had left, only a few still staying behind to run the affairs or classes of the school.

The year went on, and Eris developed the typical distaste of teachers, but then the events of the camp out occured, and then the masked figure. Had Eris gotten anything for her struggle? There was no history of the pain that Eris felt, of the small scars that littered her face and arms. She had refused to let the nurses take away the traces of scars, wanting to be reminded of her failure. It was a deep choice for a child, but Eris was passionate enough to make the weathered nurses step away. Besides, the scars were small enough only to be seen if one squinted or looked in an extremely well lit lighting.

The professors had cared little for Eris's scars, or for the constant fear that she would be killed. There were little who cared of the children in the castle, and Eris had learned to hate them for that. It helped little that her friends were also bitter, and that Eris had spent a whole summer wallowing in self pity with her bitter excuse of a family.

So, she laughed when Emma was done speaking. Drawing herself closer to the table, elbows finding themselves on the table, Eris found a smirk growing on her face. She wasn't one for cursing, but the moment called for it.

"Miss Reporter, what Emma is telling you is bullcrap, sugarcoated with the typical attention seeking of Ravenclaws. I assure you Emma, the professors aren't listening and you won't get any house points for that 'rousing' speech". Eris declared, rolling her eyes with the energy of a girl much more hormonal than Eris.

Bitterness did strange things to people, as did rage, which Eris was always full of. "Last year I engaged in a fight with the Masked figure, because nobody else would," Eris removed her elbows from the table, pointing at the faint freckling of scars dotting her face and arms. "I don't know if you can see them, but I paid the price. The figure burned me alive and cursed me and my friend, promising to find and end me. Yet, the professors did nothing. None of them came to visit me in the Hospital wing, not even Professor Yornikovych--who I was rather fond of."

Eyes watering with a mix of anger and fear, Eris clasped her hands together, braving forward. "There was also the Lock In, which seemed to be a fun night. It was not. My friend Dorian had to get stabbed in the foot, because of a joke Professor Lear thought was funny. My friend Rosie got cat ears and almost got eaten alive, but I had to leave her behind to save my other friends. This was just weeks, or even days, after the Masked Figure's attack."

Eris's anger and stress boiled over, as she kept talking, nearly spitting as her anger grew with every word.

"I don't feel safe at all, but what does it matter? I'll have to take on the figure by myself, because the professors aren't doing anything and never will. Not when they can flirt around and gossip, and I don't care if they hear this or not. They're evil, and need to know that. The students of this school aren't getting a proper education and we aren't safe. Everyone knows that, besides little Emma over here. The only good thing is Professor Henley's sweets, but Mr Wodsworth is insane and needs some better clothing.
