2023, Stage 2 Slytherin vs Ravenclaw: Match 1

Guinevere then died from the irony of her previous statement. This was not going the way she expected it to: definitely not fine.
And just to make it worse, her fire spell went haywire, and almost hit Ming instead of Adelaide. It was as if her own wand had a mind of its own, jerked suddenly and decided to embarrass her in front of everyone.
"Holy crap, I'm so sorry," she grimaced. What was this?? Even with the Ravenclaws passive, she couldn't land a spell!
Get yourself together, Guinevere. You can't keep going on like this, what are you thinking?

The Ravenclaws seemed to hesitate for a fraction of a moment, and Hui-Ming seized upon the moment; the familiar motion of the jinx - repeated s many times in practice - coming to im easily when-

An errant spell, coming from his own classmate forced the bespectacled boy to slide aside, sending hs own spell off target. Barely off target, but off-target the all the same.

Apparently they just could not manage to land on target today, even when their opposition was just standing around.

"Careful." was the only word of rebuke he could give his partner. But they really had to get better with results.

Oh for fucks sake. She clenched her jaw in anger at herself. Why in Merlin had she momentarily frozen? She had absolutely no reason to do that, and the duel was going good too, but for some godforsaken reason Adelaide had frozen and forgotten to cast a spell. Though, it seemed Gem had done the same thing.

Somehow, despite both of them having temporarily turned into statues, the Slytherins had failed to hit them. Guinevere had even lost control so much that her spell had gone towards Ming, but unfortunately he had managed to evade. Okay, maybe this round was just not a good round for any of them. At least they weren't in a worst position, they could come back from this. She most definitely would not be freezing up anymore.

Gem didn't know how it had come to occur, but next thing she knew, more spells were being flung their way. Thankfully, she managed to leap out of the way at the last second, but that moment of distraction had almost cost them. She shook back her sleeves anew, and tried to keep her focus.

After their small break to perhaps gather their thoughts and think through their strategy, the two Ravenclaw students gathered the strength to attack once more. While Gemima would miss the knockback jinx slightly, Adelaide would manage to hit Guinevere without much fuss. And what a painful Knockback jinx that must have been! Ming would attempt to retaliate with a Laughing spell aimed at Gemima, whereas Guinevere would make an equal effort to hit Adelaide with a stronger version of the fire making spell, however they both had managed to miss their intended targets and thus another round went by without that much happening. Though Ravenclaw had managed to achieve a clear lead by now, what with Guinevere barely able to hold on at that point.

For the fourth time already, the duel would go the same way: her spell would miss, and she would yet again be hit by a painful knockback jinx, which once again sent her back by a few steps. With a sinking feeling, Guinevere knew she would likely black out soon. Which was not good, for her and for her house. Mostly for her reputation, though. What fun was it being known as that one girl who couldn't land a spell, almost hit her partner, and passed out in the middle of a duel?

This was quickly becoming ridiculous. Almost half the time allotted for the duel was over and they had managed to land a hit once. Once?

Frustration bubbled under the surface. It was hardly the most optimal choice, but as Plans A and B were not working out. Perhaps it might be worth it to try something a bit silly--

Oh yeah, this was going good. Exactly the way it should've been going. Both of the Slytherins had missed their spells, Adelaide easily able to dodge the Incendio Duo Guinevere had attempted to cast at her, and Adelaide's Flipendo had successfully hit Guinevere.

Unfortunately, Gem had missed her Flipendo, but it wasn't detrimental. They were still doing great, despite both of them freezing for a split second during the duel. She wouldn't get too cocky just yet, but she still couldn't help the smile that graced its way across her face.

Gem let out a small cheer as Adelaide’s spell hit Guinevere dead on. That moment earlier was surely just a fluke— they were still standing! Unfortunately, her own casting was still a little off, but she had complete faith in their little duo. Perhaps this first duel wouldn’t be as terrible as she had first thought.

Guinevere was looking rough at this point of time and apparently she knew so as well as she chose to use her focus on being defensive and staying conscious rather than coming up with another spell to use on the other team. Ming was not quite as careful and instead chose to attack with a Knockback Jinx headed toward Gemima. Adelaide, chose to avenge her ally found herself having trouble to cast the spell, too distracted momentarily by the boy who was supposed to be her target. Gemima wasn't much luckier, while she did manage to cast the Knockback Jinx, her defensive target managed to just barely avoid being hit, a hit that would have quite possibly ended the duel early for the viper. So perhaps she was having some luck after all.
