Alan wondered as he watched the ongoing duel. He was still a bit taken aback by how slowly such an even match could go when it came to younger students. It was at the same time quite fascinating to watch them do their best against a challenging opponent. Pea would conjure a thick layer of smoke once more that would surround the stage, whereas Hanako would attempt and fail to hit Julian with a wind jinx, who in return would go for Pea with a nasty fire spell. However he would not manage to hit her and neither would Nessie. The badger would fail to even cast her spell and instead get distracted by the girl she was aiming at.

[Spectator Thread, Day 1: Afternoon]

Pea have been doing a lot of defensive move the past few rounds as it is obvious that the Hufflepuffs are both putting their target on her. Make sense. She does looks much more threatening than that no good Japanese boy. And how the Hufflepuff girl keep missing her spell which probably because she was distracted by Pea’s charming presence.

Another attacking spell came in her way but she manage to dodge it smoothly, while Nessie’s spell disappointingly fizzled. “What a.. marvelous display of skills, you two.” The white haired said sarcastically, and smirked. But now, it is time for her to disappear. Although it is made sense for the two badgers to target her, she still don’t want to be set on fire, or worse, one of those sneezing spell. Ew. Definitely not. Pea wave her wand and smoke started to fill the dueling field.

“Sorry- I can’t hear you through all the disgusting things in your face.”

“ That’s how you show your appreciation for me? “ he rolled his eyes. “ maybe I should just miss my spell for once and it’ll help you remember just how much you rely on me” his sentence was less effective from the constant uncomfortable coughs between words, but it was only facts!

He wasn’t planning to actually miss, though. But the curse certainly was affecting him big time. Even when Julian was focused on Pea, his aim was only a little bit too far from it’s aim. That would be the last time it would. Hanako immediately felt his body being freed of that dratted curse and a sigh of relief escaped him. Its amazing not to look disgusting.

“ Finally! See that Pritchard?! Your lame spell barely fazed me” It came to Hanako’s realisation that Pritchard indeed would not have seen it. Considering the mass fog that surrounded them. Hanako turned to his teammate with a quizzical look.

“ Wow. You r e a l l y gave up on trying to hit your target, huh? “ he snickered. “ Well, works well for me~” As dense as the fog was, he had no trouble sensing through them. Pea on the other hand well… it sounds more like a her problem than a Hana problem.

“ Whats with the silence, guys~? Haven't heard your lovely voices in quite some time ” he called out to the Hufflepuffs ( or wherever he assumed them to be )

“What a.. marvelous display of skills, you two.” Pea commented, to which Hana gladly joined in.

“Cmon now Fowl, don't be so harsh on them. It's not their fault they kept being distracted when you and I are here" extra emphasis on 'and' because he would continuously refuse to stroke Fowl's ego more than the opponents already did. " Don’t start getting shy on us now, you two~ “

Action: As Strategised & also being a menace to the Hufflepuffs

Nessie's lack of success with her spells was getting so ridiculously bad that it was difficult to chalk it up to bad luck at this point - maybe she was just a horrible duelist? Her accuracy in her previous match also suggested as much. The young co-captain was really beginning to think that her team might be better off if her spot on the roster went to just about anybody else, given her skills (or lack thereof).

At least now nobody would be able to see her failures, with all the smoke and whatnot. Maybe Nessie should be thanking her opponents?

His robes were finally out. Julian breathed a sigh of relief even as the stinging on his palms made itself readily apparent. Merlin, but he hated fire spells. The experience of being hit with one always left him feeling wrung out and in quite a bit of pain and he would've liked nothing more than to curl up in a corner. Unfortunately, that was not an option mid-duel, so he grit his teeth and raised his wand.

One of the Slytherins got their spell off before he could cast anything and soon he was coughing as smoke surrounded them all. The only thing coming through clearly, as Julian attempted (and failed) to aim through the smoke, was Hanako's voice. Since he could scarcely make him out, it took a second for Julian to even realise what the boy was getting at, and it was just because his voice was clear, that he realised his curse had finally wore off.

"I suppose barely is better than not at all," was Julian's reply. It seemed to him the other boy had at least seemed uncomfortable. And it had certainly proved distracting to Pea, judging from all the bickering between the Slytherins. It was hard to tell how effective it had been otherwise, but he liked to think he and Nessie might have been worse off if he'd never cast it. Still, maybe he should've gone with something more immediately disabling.

He did not attempt to defend his aim, though Hanako and Pea's clear attempts at making fun of their inability to hit the Slytherins stung a little. He logically knew that he'd missed because of the smoke, but he didn't think that pointing it out would be helpful.

He had a harder time keeping silent, though, at Hanako's last comment. Why did the boy insist on being so... unsettling? Julian shook his head, frowning. "What does that even mean? Anyway, you also missed." These Slytherins were quite vexing.

Alan watched as the banter between the duellists went on, not intervening as it didn't seem too serious, but instead gave a small smile as he watched the next events unfold. Hanako would miss Julian with his enhanced Firemaking spell whereas Pea would miss the badger with a Knockback jinx. But perhaps they would prefer missing over whatever went on on the other side of the piste. When Julian tried to cast the stronger version of the firemaking spell on none other than Pea, he seemed to fumble with his wand, causing the stray spell to go for his own team mate instead, hitting Nessie, which likely was the very reason for her own distraction in trying to aim for Pea with a knockback jinx, that didn't even come close to hitting the elusive viper. Alan winced, knowing full well that a stray spell hitting your own team member or a spell backfiring on oneself were the worst things that could happen in a duel, aside from being outmatched through skill or number of people of course.

"What does that even mean? Anyway, you also missed."

“ It means I find you more charming when you’re on the losing side, Pritchard. Do I really need to be more forward? “ he coyly joked, without much of an issue now that there was nothing else distracting him. How he loved to be free of curses and bruises. It seemed sort of a miracle that he hadn’t even been scratched yet though the duel was halfway done. But he wasn’t complaining. With full health, he was full of energy. And energy meant more mockery for his opponents.

That would be the end of his strikes of good luck, however. The fog may have been thick enough to dull the sense of sight, but it did nothing to hide the presence of the Hufflepuffs from Hanako. And from how even Fowl could evade any spell that came her way, the fog effected the Hufflepuffs too. Perhaps Prichard was more slippery than he initially thought. Certainly couldn’t be from Hanako’s bad aim, nope.

Neither of his nor Fowl’s spell hit, but through the fog, the sound of a familiar incantation and how no said spell had been aimed at them, had brought back a smile to his face. And true to his observation, Swansea’s robes had caught on fire. He couldn’t help but laugh a bit.

“ Were you really charmed enough to set poor Swansea on fire? You definitely know your way to a duelist’s heart. It better be because of me and not my partner, here. Trust me, she’s not the greatest person to have a crush on “

Action: As Strategised & also being a menace to the Hufflepuffs

To say that Nessie was having more failures than successes in this duel would be an understatement. In five rounds, three of her spells hadn't even cast properly, and the remaining two had missed. And now she was on fire because she hadn't managed to evade a spell from her partner. Which she couldn't even be mad about because she'd almost hit him last duel, so she was well aware that such mistakes did happen.

But given her series of misfortunes, it was becoming difficult for the often-optimistic young Hufflepuff to keep her hopes up. It was really all she could do to try to stay calm, to avoid crying - although whether her eyes were starting to water from the pain of the flames or her frustration at her own incompetence, she didn't know.

Nessie took a deep breath and tried her best to stay focused.

Of course, barely any time had passed since Julian's encounter with Incendio Duo before Nessie had her own. Except that hers came courtesy of Julian, whose attempts to get out of the way of yet another fire spell led him to fumble his cast. Which made it much, much worse. What kind of teammate was he?

"Nessie!" He bit his lip, his glasses slipping down his nose as he craned his neck to look at his teammate. "I'm so sorry I--" He fumbled again; this time for a reasonable explanation. Hanako's constrant chatter wasn't helping things either, only making his cheeks grow hotter.

"That's--that's not what happened at all," he protested, hoping Nessie would believe him. Somehow, the idea that a crush, of all things, might've distracted him and gotten his partner hurt seemed infinitely more careless--infinitely worse--than simple clumsiness.

"Are you alright?"

What happened next is like seeing a very entertaining show. Yes, both of Pea and Hana’s spell miss. But seeing a Hufflepuff betraying their own team mate by setting them on fire is giving her so much delight.

What Hana said next is what annoyed her. It was obvious that they both were just too distracted by her, not his overly confident arse. “We both know that is not true, Hanako. Stop lying to yourself. They are obviously slowly falling in love with me. I mean you did also have a crush on me not long ago.” The white haired smile slyly unto the dark haired Slytherin, remembering the time at the blossom ball where he is obviously falling in love with the part veela.
