It was funny how fate play a joke with the green eyes' life. Cash had sworn to themselves that they never stepped foot inside the Duelling Club again ever since Henry had left them abruptly. And yet the room had this intangible magic and magnetic pull that always bring Cash back to the wrretched space.
It did not matter how hard Cash tried to avoid the room, it seems they always came back whether they like it or not. Or perhaps their unconsciousness tried to tell the Beater that it was a way to fill the empty void that Henry had left behind. Whatever it is, Cash did not want to think much about it. It was Friday afternoon and the last class of the day had been long gone into the hours.
Cash had been changed from their school uniform into much more comfortable attire. The Scottish atmosphere of Winter still could feel all around the castle. And so Cash decided to wear a black turtleneck and pair it with black slim-fitted jeans. Their shoulder-length hair had been tied up into half-up ponytails.
A silver frame bespectacled - which Cash rarely uses - perched on their nose. There was an angel wing necklace hanging around their neck. And white with black striped shoes on their feet completing their choice of today's look. The Beater had heard about the 1vs1 Duelling Club before but with how busy they are, they have not had the time until today.
As soon as another match of 1v1 Duelling will be held, Cash volunteers to be one of the judges or referee or whatever you want to call it. It funny how Cash tried so hard not to include themselves in anything related to Duelling Club and yet they seemed could not stay away from the room."Alright,!They said as Cash stepped into the piste.
"When I call your name, please make your sorry excuse of a face known,"They added some more. Cash then looked down at the piece of paper that they held. "Aurora Griffith and Duvessa Ember, whoever you are, your hell waiting for you,"The Cuban descendant called out the first-year pairing.
"If you are new to Duelling, I hope your senior or at least your friends tell you all about the rules since I would not do that,"Cash informed both of the younglings. "What I expect from you is a clean duel, you hear?"Their green eyes alternated between Ember and Griffith. Once both of the first-years nodded their head and was ready to take on the piste, Cash took a few steps back.
"Do not expect a word of encouragement from me,"They uttered matter of factly. Cash's eyes then bounce from one girl to another. "Let's get to it then,"Cash cleared their throat. "Wand at the ready, get set, aim!"The Beater signaling. And so the game begins!

Her very first duel. Unoffcial, it may be, but Duvessa felt a shiver of fear and dread run through her spine as she walked up, as if in a dream. For months, her dream had become bigger, of at least attempting a duel. And today - her dream had come true.
Perfectionist / First Year / Slytherin
@Cassandra Ironwoods, @Aurora Grifith
Legs wobbling as if made out of jelly or a hex cast on them, she walked onto the platfrom as her name was called. She took a deep breath and gazed upwards into the eyes of her dueling moderator. She knew that girl from the corridors...in fact, that girl was Cassandra Ironwoods, Dueling Co-Captain! That immediately made Duvessa respect her, and after walking to the platform it seemed for like an hour, she duel nearly begun.
Cassandra told them that she expected a clean game, and Duvessa nodded. She had no intention of returning with a broken ankle - or worse, injuring Aurora badly enough for the hospital wing. Duvessa was small but determined. And she also prefered to play fairly...not totally brutally.
Her eyes locked with Aurora's as she trudged back into position, and she nodded to her.
"Good luck." She mouthed to the Aurora, because she had met the friendly Hufflepuff in the corridors - she was indeed nice.

I had recently joined the Dueling Club, and I was ecstatic about my first duel. I wasn't worried about getting hurt, because 1st years shouldn't learn spells that destructive yet- right? Well, enough about that. I didn't want to hurt my opponent too badly, because then I'd feel really guilty, and I couldn't bear the thought of guilt like that. I walked to the dueling room in the castle, feeling like I was walking on cumulonimbus clouds If that makes sense. I knew I was walking to my would-be doom, but right now, the heavy clouds had fleeted away and it felt like I was walking on sunshine. I shouldn't be excited about this! Yet I was, and I couldn't explain why...it was like a prisoner being led to execution and they were happy about it, but that's a bit dramatic. It was still hard to believe that even though I wanted to be a broom racer, I had signed up for a dueling club! Oh well. Once I got there, I saw two people- an older student with short hair and silver specs, and a girl with a very dark complexion. When Duvessa(that was her name)wished me good luck after the duel moderator finished lecturing us, I whispered, "You too," As I took my position facing Duvessa, wand at the ready.

Aurora Griffith vs Duvessa Ember
Aurora cast Flipendo at Duvessa
Wisdom DC: 9
Wisdom Check: [d20 : 2] + 6 = 8 > 9 → Fail
Duvessa Ember vs Aurora Griffith
Duvessa cast Incendio at Aurora
Wisdom DC: 9
Wisdom Check: [d20 : 3] + 6 = 9 → Success
Accuracy Check: [d20 : 9] + 7 = 16
Evasion Check: [d20 : 11] + 8 = 19
16 < 19 → Miss!
And so the first round of the match begin. The first one that needs to prove her worth is Aurora Griffith. Cash hardly remembered if they ever met the girl before or not. With each passing year as the green eyes become older, there were so many first-year new faces milling around the castle and Cash could not keep track anymore.
As soon the signal had been given, Aurora Griffith pointed her wand toward Duvessa Ember. Her intention behind the spell was true. As Griffith make said the incantation and the wand movement for the Knockback Jinx, sadly nothing happened. Perhaps Cash could lend her a pointer or two despite not a Duellist themselves.
When there was no jet of light or spark coming from the tip of Griffith's wand, Cash let out a tut. "Honestly, did you pay any attention to Professor Lécuyer or did you fell asleep when he taught you that?"Cash smirked. They know a spell could fail from time to time. Called it a first-year fluke or jitters or perhaps a stage freight.
But whatever it is Cash had none of it. If they think Cash would coddle them just because they are a bunch pair of first-year, they thought wrong. Their parents believed both of them could be independent during the years they will take on at Hogwarts and Cash would not start to coddle them anytime soon. Or ever.
"As I said earlier, do not expect a word of encouragement from me,"They repeated the same thing that they just said before the first round rolled in. On the other side of the piste, Duvessa Ember is ready to launch her own attack. Cash smiled faintly as Ember chose the ever-popular spell with all Duellists and perhaps one of the official Duellers' favorite spell.
With a flourish of incantation and the wand movement for Incendio, unlike her counterpart, Duvessa Ember precisely executed her spell toward Aurora Griffith. The jet of light came out from the tip of her wand and flew to the other side of the piste."Woah, hey now!"They exclaimed. "Did she do you wrong or something?"The fourth-year rhetorically asked.
Despite being amateur and inexperienced when it came down to Duelling, Aurora Griffith managed to dodge the assault. "Well, that was a waste,"Cash responded after seeing Ember's attack on Griffith did not mark her intended target. Cash let out a breath. "Moving on!"They clapped their hand and waited for the next move from both of the young aspire Duellists.

The moment Aurora cast the spell, Duvessa groaned silently. She knew she was going to loose, knowing the speed and power of the Hufflepuff. She ducked anyway, attempting to be able to shoot off in perhaps the right direction - and the first spell was in full swing.
Perfectionist / First Year / Slytherin
@Cassandra Ironwoods, @Aurora Grifith
Flipendo.
Duvessa eyed the wand expectantly, but it failed. Heart as light as a feather, she let out a deep sigh of relief - she had a feeling that she was going to sorely lose by her bad ducking skills. Now, she aimed with her nimble wand - it was her time to do this . And with a nervous, determined feeling, she cast her very first spell:
"Incendio!" She called, wishing and praying with all her might that she had gotten it right. Her whole body was aiming to cast it as she remembered their Charms lesson.
"The three rules of charms are..." The voice drifted in her head as she concnetrated to cast the spell. Wand movement. Concentration. Incantation.
To her immense surprise, and perhaps, relief - the spell had worked. Shooting out with a jet of light from her wand, she was taken aback. She had actually done it! Now she just had to make sure that the spell hit the target....and it missed. She cursed under her breath, but nodded to Aurora anyway.

Remembering the 3 rules of Charms, I pointed my wand at Duvessa, said "Flipendo!" and waited for Duvessa to be knocked over...and nothing happened. I was more than surprised, I was shocked. Nearly swaying where I stood, at stared at my wand with wide eyes. Had I done the 3 rules of Charms right, I might have gotten it? Had I been concentrating too hard? Or too little? There was no way for me to tell because that moment was over and done. Well, I guess there's no point in crying over spilled milk now, Aurora... I thought. Oh, I hoped that the fact I may have been a little distracted was the only reason it didn't work, and not something else. After glaring at the moderator, I turned my attention back to Duvessa. She cast Incendio, conjuring a bout of flames. Gasping, I dodged the flames and panted, looking back at Duvessa. Oh gosh...maybe, when it came to dangerous spells for 1st years, that was the exception. Breathing deeply, I decided to try my best to act tough, stand my ground, and not chicken out. Muttering angrily to myself, I rubbed my thumb against the wood of my wand a little, bad habit. I stopped doing it and waited for Duvessa to make her next move, or not since I was going first. Do better Aurora, I thought to myself.

To make this unofficial Dueling interesting, the green eyes will alternate between Embers and Griffith every round. Since the last round, Griffith was slightly quicker than Ember to casted her spell, Cash now giving the go signal to Ember first. "You up first, young snake," Cash said to the first-year Slytherin.
"Do not embarrass me,"They said. It was a lot to put on a first-year shoulder but perhaps with the extra pressure, Embers could strive under it. Duvesa Ember sucked a deep breath as her eyes zeroed into the other side of the piste where one Auora Griffith stood. Pointing her wand toward Griffith, Ember performs almost up to perfection for the Dancing-Feet spell incantation and wand movement.
But somehow the spell backfired on herself. Cash was not sure how. "Seriously, guys! If I were you I dropped out of school already,"They chimed in. First, it was Griffith who failed her spell-casting and now Ember also shared the same fate as her counterpart. Cash contemplated whether they should break their character and encourage them.
But in the end, Cash decided to just smirk replacing the unspoken word of encouragement that will never be spewed out from their lips. As soon as the Dancing-Feet spell backfired and hit Ember herself instead of Griffith, Ember's feet danced to the Irish jig like crazy and thus it gave the perfect opportunity for the young badger to attack her opponent.
First, Aurora Griffith twirled the wand between her nimble fingers like how a drummer spins their drumsticks. With confidence, Griffith slung her spell. Lo and behold, her Sneezing Hex marked her target. The hex hit Duvessa Ember where Griffith wanted it to be and soon Ember will be too busy with her Irish jig dance and trying to control her sneezing. What a round!

She suffered in more than just sneezing and twirling; her dignity had been harmed. She nearly felt tears prick her but pushed them away. What was the point? Aurora suffered about just as much, but these two spells were embarassing anyway. But she had to carry on. She had to.
Perfectionist / First Year / Slytherin
@Cassandra Ironwoods, @Aurora Grifith
She knew the perfect spell she could cast; but first she needed to wait to see if Cassandra was going to make her or Aurora go first - either way, the raven haired Slytherin plucked up courage once more. The sneezing seemed to get worse, and it really was unfortunate to be the victim of a spell; and even worse, after seemingly to perform the perfect Tarantallegra spell, she was once again disapointed. It only backfired, and made the duel worse for herself. Great. Loosing.
She gritted her teeth at Cassandra's remark, eyebrows knitting in sulkiness. But still, she attempted to fake it and cast a cool look in another direction. She twirled the wand in her hand, clutching it tightly. It was a nimble Chestnut Wood, and all the spells she attempted so far had worked. All of them. Well, that is if you count the times that they backfired....the young snake looked up once more.

Even though nothing much had happened in terms of us getting hit by anything, I was still quite disheartened. But, I was confident that I would get it. Eventually. My thoughts were all broken when I immediately realized that Duvessa was going first. I braced myself, ready to dodge at any moment. Duvessa cast her spell, and I prepared to evade it. And then- it never came. I looked up, confused. Duvessa was doing what I recognized as an Irish jig. I blinked for a second, then thought, Tarantallegra, the Dancing Feet Spell. Of course. It must have backfired on her, I guess. But..." I grinned widely, spun my wand between my fingers, and flung a Sneezing Hex at Duvessa. "Steleus!" I said. The sight I was looking at was so funny to me that I had to clutch my face to keep from laughing. Duvessa herself did not look very happy at the predicament she was in, but then she put on a calm face. I was happy that I had hit my target straight on, but I couldn't get my hopes up. At least I had fixed my dignity and that I had also overridden that previous embarrassment. The next spell might as well backfire on me, so I had to be careful. Luckily, I was already trying to think of another spell.

How Cash stuck with these two was beyond them. Perhaps (Damion) White saw something in them that Cash themselves did not see. Or perhaps White thinks for the young Duellists that fought for their death up on the platform it would be both of their honors for Cash to oversee their match since the Slytherin was one of the Co-Captain for the official Duelling Club.
Whatever it is, it did not amuse Cash the slightest. After this whole match was over, they will complain to White and White will never hear the end of it. 12 rounds seems too long and now all of them just entered round number tres three. Cash covered their mouth when a yawn broke out from them. They blink their watery eyes because of the effect of the said yawn.
1v1 Duelling was less exciting than the real one. But still, Cash had volunteered to be one of the referees and they will fight to their end to stay awake no matter how bored they are. And besides, if Cash knew any better, the tide could change anytime just like any other sport they ever attend or played one.
"Alright then!"They exclaimed. "I forgot to tell you guys that for every even number, Ember will go first, and with every odd number within the rounds, it was Griffith's turn,"Cash informed the green leaves. Whether they listened to Cash or not, Cash did not pay much mind to it. "Since this round is round 3; Griffith, you up first!"Cash stated.
Once Cash said that, they sidestep to the side of the far end of the stage so they were out of harm's way. After Cash said that, Aurora Griffith raised her wand and pointed out toward Duvessa Ember. Griffith executed the spell successfully but it seems her spell was too slow for Duvessa Ember's feet as the young snake could anticipate the attack.
As for Ember, she is willing to try anything and put one of those Slytherin traits which are ambition come to the light. With a new strategy, Ember will do anything to take Griffith down. Cash watched as Ember said the incantation and do the wand movement for the Green Spark Charm. But it seems both Ember and Griffith shared the same fate in this round.
Just like Griffith did earlier, Duvessa Ember stretched out her wand toward Griffith's way. Although there is nothing wrong with Ember's incantation and wand movement for the spell as she also did the spell-casting quite well, the end result was not what Ember hoped for.
As the beginning sign of the jet of light for Verdimillious about to let out from Embers's wand, Griffith saw that. And thus when the spell fling out of Ember's wand, Aurora Griffith already anticipated it. Before the spell could even touch her, Griffith jumped out of the way and Ember's Green Spark Charm did nothing except break out at the nearest wall.
Cash's eyes fleeted from Ember to Griffith. Both of them execute their choice of spells which is slightly better than the last two rounds even though they still missed their respective intended marks. It was slow progress. But progress is progress nonetheless. Practice definitely make it better!
