➨ FROZEN : It's December of Olivia's first year. She's discovered that the Great Lake is completely and totally frozen over. Usually, this would be calling for her to skate. And like usual, she grabbed a warm set of clothing and her figure skates from her trunk, and headed out to the Lake. It was a weekend, therefore there weren't any classes in session currently. She had all day to skate, if she wanted to.
During the time she spent growing up fully at home, she trained vigorously in figure skating, from the young age of three. She was a "special" case at her local ice rink, considering the coach didn't like to take on anyone under the age of five. She loved it, and she still does to this day. It's the only thing that her mother will let her do that allows her to associate with Muggles.
So she's down at the Great Lake, her skates beside her and sat in the snow. She doesn't quite know whether or not she's allowed on the ice, but she does know that she really wants to go on there. She just doesn't want to be looked at by other people - she was slightly insecure when it came down to showcasing her talents. Can Edric come along and convince her to go on the ice?
This would also most likely end off in a friendly relationship, as Olivia seems to be a rather nice person when it comes down to it.

❝ I was born in the beginning of winter, and in the cold when you're young and naive, you don't realize that when you jump into a pile of snow...

MOST children, when the crisp winds of December come through and chill them to the bone, scurry on indoors, afraid of things like getting a cold, or frostbite. Maybe not all of them did this, but Olivia was used to it.
TODAY, snow fell from the heavens in the masses. The opulent substance covered the ground in itself, creating an aura that was relevant to a winter wonderland. The sky was hazed over by fluffy, white clouds, and the Great Lake was glaciated, the thick sheets of ice veiling anything that may be lurking underneath the surface. It was majestic. It was wondrous. It was extraordinary. Most students here would be enraptured by the snow that fell, and Olivia was no exception to this.
EXCEPT, for now, the golden-haired girl was leaned up against the frame of the window in her dormitory down in the Slytherin quarters. Her ocean blue eyes peered out into the depths of the lake that engulfed their entire common room, searching for something. Anything to take her mind off of the boredom she felt. There were no fish, it seemed like they were hiding. Not even the giant squid could be seen from her vantage point. What a let-down.
IT was only then that Olivia got the idea of going skating. When at home, she trains vigorously in figure skating, pushing herself to always be the best she can be, no matter what it took.
WITH a sigh, she trudged over to her own bed, which was next to the window she was leaning against. Her dorm mates weren't currently present - that, or she couldn't see them - so she was alone. She reached down to pick up her black leather boot that her mother bought for her when she realized that Olivia would be needing some sort of shoes for the winter when or if it did snow.
ONLY one was in sight, and when she pulled it on, she leaned down between her legs from her sitting position on the edge of her mattress. She furrowed her eyebrows as she peered into the dark underneath of her bed, but thankfully enough, she could see her other boot. She reached as far as her arm could go, her fingertips touching it. That was enough. She grasped it between her index and middle fingertips, pulling it out so that she could put it on as well.
HER knitted dark blue sweater should have been enough to face the cold, but at the same time Olivia wasn't so sure. She had nothing on underneath it, so the cold had a good chance of biting through the wool fabric and pricking at her skin. She snatched up her big furry coat anyways, which her mother had bought her for Christmas one year. If she didn't need it for her upper half, it would at least contribute to keeping her lower half warm. Her legs were only clad in a pair of "insulated" black leggings.
"INSULATED", because most times, insulated clothing isn't all-too-insulated.
SHE darted out of her dormitory, extremely eager to get out of the dormitory. So eager that she actually forgot about her skates altogether. She reached the staircase when she noticed, holding out her hand for the railing. She groaned, but turned on her heel and jogged back to the room regardless. She would make sure that she didn't forget them somewhere else.

TWELVE minutes it took her to reach the Great Lake - exactly. She was quick to plop down into the cold snow, but not before taking off her jacket and laying it down first, not really looking forward to numbing her butt. She placed her skates down in the snow beside her, and they sank into the white fluff slightly. She had been carrying them by the laces, the guarded blades hitting her leg every now and then, and imprints had been left on her fingers. Not like they wouldn't be going away soon. They never stayed long.
THE weather was cold, but it wasn't exactly a cold that Olivia minded. It was warm compared to more northern places in Europe, but then again it always was. She could have survived without her jacket, though it did make a nice seat in the snow. Her butt wouldn't get damp or numb, and that was always a bonus. She looked out at the lake, leaning back on her hands in the snow. She didn't have gloves on, but she was used to numb hands. In fact, she kind of enjoyed the feeling. It made her feel... at peace almost. For some reason, one she was unsure of.
WHEN one thought of a "great" lake, they'd think of something really grand. But in Olivia's opinion, this lake was running short of great. What if it broke underneath her, and students that were around laughed at her? What if they laughed at her beforehand? It wasn't like she had any friends thus far, to be fair. She'd been sure to steer clear of most people, not wanting to get attached to someone that could easily leave her. She wouldn't have any kind of support - and she wasn't known by anyone.
ONE anxiety after another piled up, until Olivia was no longer gazing at the frozen-over lake, but to her skates. Why had she come out here anyways? She was obviously too eager for something that would just end up being a comedic act. Going back to the common room was a great idea, except Olivia wasn't quite sure if she wanted to, exactly. For a few more moments, she'd stay, and at least enjoy the snow.
...your body will cut straight through it, until your feet hit the ground. ❞

Frozen
When he was outside, on the Grounds, Edric sometimes forgot that he was in Hogwarts and not at home.
He'd grown up in the Welsh Highlands. Endless fields of short, sturdy grass, drab mountains, rocks and stones strewn across the plains, a small stream there, a few trees standing together, huddled up to another to to evade the chilly wind, there ... if it wasn't for the Forbidden Forest and Hogwarts itself, this could be any place half an hour time away from his house. The difference between the Scottish and Welsh Highlands wasn't that pronounced, at least not here. Maybe other parts of Scotland looked another way entirely, but to him this was perfect.
Some of the other students complained bitterly about the cold, but it really wasn't that bad. The wind was chilly and he could see his breath as white fog in the air, but that was that. Edric wore his warm boots, fluffy scarf and coat. His woollen hat and gloves were still in his trunk - you couldn't form snow properly with gloves on and Edric had gone outside in hopes of finding Harry and having a good snowball war. His brother was nowhere in sight however, even though he'd said that he'd be on the outside the castle the whole day.
Miffed he walked over towards the Great Lake, shaking his head absentmindedly to get the snowflakes out of his hair. It had been snowing a lot lately. The lake itself was almost completely covered in white and hard to discern from it's surroundings from a distance.
There weren't many students this far from the castle sadly. Kicking snow he fought he advanced on the lake, determined to do something today, because he'd not be a silly boy and wait until Harold had a fancy to remember that he existed. Surely not.
"Shithead," he cursed loudly. What stupid kind of brother stood up their little bro? He'd bet Harry had seen that girl he liked and run after her like a puppy again. Typical. "Pric pwdin!"
Edric was so fixated on his cursing that he startled when his hazel eyes suddenly settled on the form of another student, who was standing only a few meters away. The person wasn't that tall, maybe a first or second year student.
He contemplated the figure in the furry coat for a second. With only their back in view he couldn't even say if it was a boy or girl. In a sudden, impulsive decision he took another step closer.
"Hey, what are you doing here?"

❝It will capture you whole, thinking that it has won and stolen the world's encyclopedia...

IT wasn't like silence was something that was really expected while she was out and about. She was aware that other students would be out and about, enjoying the winter fun. She wished, to an extent, that she had someone to spend the time with while she was out here. But some part of being the Deputy Headmaster's niece made quite a few people back off. She scrunched up her nose at the thought - it was stupid. Relatives shouldn't define you.
REGARDLESS, she adored her uncle with all of her heart. She wouldn't give him or any of her family up for any amount of friends, and that was the truth. She let out a sigh, her warm breath causing a puff of cloud to appear in the cold air. It disappeared almost immediately, but it existed.
OLIVIA'S ears pricked up as she heard someone curse rather loudly, if she had anything to say about it. She turned her head to look, part of her body turning with it. She was still sat in the snow on her jacket, so her hand that she put most of her weight on placed right on her hood. She rose one of her eyebrows as he continued to do so, this time in a different language. Her ears weren't quite trained enough to pick up on what language it might be, but she knew it had to be European. There was a chance that it wasn't, but Olivia was pretty sure of herself.
BECOMING disinterested, the blonde turned back around, looking back at the icy Great Lake. Her peach pink lips pursed, and she put one of her hands on her lap, the other resting lightly over the tops of her skates. She was readying herself to leave, until the curser spoke back up.
SHE didn't turn around right away, thinking that he must've been speaking to someone else. But then, her curiosity got the better of her. She was a nosy girl, she wanted to know everything, and maybe that was why she could've ended up in Ravenclaw. Instead, she was sorted into the house of cunning and ambition. Maybe it was her endless ambition to know everything - hell if she knew.
WHEN she did turn, her eyes took in the boy that was turned in her direction. She recognized him from somewhere, but she couldn't quite put her finger on it. He could've been a Slytherin, which would probably explain it, but she wasn't about to go and initiate a conversation with him.
UNTIL she noticed that he was initiating a conversation with her.
SHE looked around to make sure she wasn't mistaken of that fact, which she wasn't. She tipped her head up slightly as her eyes wandered back to the boy that stood in front of her so that she was able to see him fully. He asked what she was doing there, and her eyes automatically went to her ice skates that her hand rested on top of still.
"WELL, nothing, really," She replied, her British accent prominent. Although being in a school of mostly British people, she had no doubt that she probably fit in, and sounded like normal by now. "Just sitting. What are you doing out here? It's cold."

...but your mind is empty and unaware and you jump out, happily.❞

At first Edric thought thad the other student was ignoring him, and when they didn't turn around after a bit he assumed that they might not have heard him at all, but then their heard turned in his direction.
Light hair was the first thing he saw, then the face of a girl. She couldn't be much older than him, maybe a first year, too, or a second year. For a while she just looked at him, not saying a word, and Edric started to feel stupid for having talked to her in the first place. It wasn't his place to ask other people what they were doing outside in the snow, that far from the castle, when he himself wa standing only a meteres away from him. This had been a mistake, he decided, and made to turn away and go his way, but then the girl suddenly spoke.
Edric blinked, both fascinated and somewhat scared of her. She sounded normal. More normal than he would have guessed from her unusual stillness.
"Oh," he answered rather unitelligently. The girl made him feel self-conscious. She was pretty and silent, and looked perfectly at easy sitting there in the snow - he would have run away, but that would have been silly now that her eyes were fixed on him.
"I..." he stuttered, "I wanted to have snowball fight, but my brother stood me up. I don't mind the cold. It's much different from home... Wales, I mean, that's where I come from. The Welsh Highlands."
This was an awkward introduction. Edric could feel himself blush and hoped that the redness the cold have conjured on his cheeks covered it.
