Duvessa Ember held Bouncy tightly in the cage, remembering how she had bought it. Bouncy was the cute grey one, that scampered around so energeticly, thus the name. She smiled fondly at it, and wondered if she should open it to hold it tightly - she would have to make sure that Bouncy listened to her. She looked around the Menagerie, wondering where her best friend had gotten to: Caoimhe Kyle.Interacting with @Caoimhe Kyle and @Bouncy
They were both buying their pets today, and Duvessa had recently been asking for a pet rat - which she was given for a couple of galleons. But Bouncy is worth much more than that to me, she thought as she put Bouncy's cage on a spare table. Hands trembling ever so slightly, she undid the bolt and then creeped the door open. Bouncy froze, then began taking small steps....which grew bigger. Duvessa held out her hand, as Bouncy approached.
At first, it just sniffed the tips of her nails but after a few moments, it scampered on, it's feet scratching her skin slightly. It put it's quivering nose to her palm and she felt it relax. She smiled traumphiantly, she had done it! Or probably for a few minutes, knowing what a rascal it could be.

-----It was Christmas break for the girls, and both had opted to go home for the holiday's with Caoimhe's mother, Chadija, being their supervisor while shopping at Diagon Alley and muggle shops as well. Her mom stayed outdoors window-shopping other stores from the sidewalk, while the two girls entered a shop called the "Magical Menagerie" in which the girls were greeted with a roar of different animal calls upon opening the door. A sneeze escaped Caoimhe before she cleaned herself off, apologizing and scattering away.
Caoimhe smiled as she observed her best friend, Duvessa, beeline towards the rodent section, but Caoimhe would waltz carefully admiring each creature before reading their personality tags and price. Sometimes a scowl would meet her lips, having some distaste for the price. Caoimhe wished they sold dogs as she preferred larger companions, but could not quite decide if she should purchase an animal today or not. It was a lot of responsibility that Caoimhe was unsure if she could allot, let alone afford.
Several cats had captured her attention, but Caoimhe would walk away to find Duvessa undoing her rodent carrier.
"Did you find a pet you liked?" Caoimhe asked, not sure what animal was contained in the carrier, kneeling down allowing curiosity to capture her attention.

Caoimhe asked her if she had found a pet she liked - well, Duvessa knew the answer immediately!Interacting with @Caoimhe Kyle and @Bouncy
"Yes!" She gushed, excitedly as she continued to carefully pulled Bouncy out. The name suited the little pet rat, for it was a mini rascal and a little imp.
It looked up quiveringly at Caoimhe, softly gazing out of brownish eyes.
"It's my pet rat, Bouny." Duvessa said proudly, and scrunched her free hand into a fist - what she always did when she was excited. Then, she stroked it's soft fur,
"I have a feeling that this one isn't very well behaved, Cai.." She said as she examined it, and for a moment, she could swear that she saw it's eyes gleaming with mischief, the gleam she only knew too well......
After a couple of seconds, Duvessa asked Caoimhe a question.
"What about you? I thought that you lingered at the cats section slightly." She grinned at her best friend.
"We should hurry, or Mrs Kyle will be wondering where we are." She added, checking her small watch that her cousins had gave her as a "welcome to hogwarts" lesson.
The shop was no doubt a great place, but she needed to buy one last thing.
"Any idea what rats eat?"

-----When Caoimhe noticed the rat, she squealed and leapt back. The little girl was momentarily frightened by the creature when she saw its long tail coil around her friend's arm, but she quickly recovered as she saw its placid demeanor and compassion when being held by her friend: " He's so cute, Essa!" Caoimhe reached out carefully and massaged the rat's fur, laughing at the softness of the little rodent. Her preconceived notions regarding the small, cuddly critter were soon proven incorrect. How could anyone resent an animal that appeared so little and innocent?
As Duvessa revealed that she was name the rat "Bouncy," Caoimhe beamed with delight. Although it was a funny moniker, it was ideal for the rodent's character. Caoimhe swiveled around once again to face the cat section. Duvessa might have observed this as she inquired whether Caoimhe had selected an animal companion to adopt. Caoimhe sighed before turning to face her mate and commented somberly, "I don't have enough galleons. Maybe next time."
Caoimhe did believe that having a pet at Hogwarts would alleviate her depression and anxiety, even if she had already bought other necessities throughout their holiday break. Later, Caoimhe and her mother would have a conversation about it.
Caoimhe's eyes widened in concern when Duvessa suggested that her mother could be wondering where the two had gone. How long have been they gone? Are they being searched by her mother? Several different scenarios played out in her mind. Yet, Duvessa still required food to take care of her pet rat, Bouncy.
"I believe they consume a variety of foods, but mostly fruits and grains," Caoimhe responded inquiringly as she searched the store for support or signage.

When Cai had seen the rat, she squealed loudly. Duvessa giggled, as her friend got over her small shock. She seemed soothed that Duvessa was holding it calmly, as she let it back into the cage. She was not afraid of pests generally, seeing that Than had often tricked her with them, and she learnt to make friends.Interacting with @Caoimhe Kyle and @Bouncy
She had not even bought it with her own money - Silas has given her a couple of galleons to spend on a pet (he knew that she wanted a rat) as a...ahem, VERY early birthday present. As she remembered that she had to go to Mrs Kyle, she decided not to buy the grains today and said as much.
"We shouldn't worry your mother, don't worry, plus Etoile promised to share some with me at Hogwarts." She smiled at the thought although looked sad as her best friend had said that she had not enough galleons. She wished that she could buy something for her, but she had scarcly enough money for herself.
She began moving towards the door, excited at the prospect of spending the full sunny day shopping and going to tea with Mrs Kyle and Caoimhe. She felt very lucky.
