It was a proper moment of peace– one of the few Brianna had gotten really since she arrived at Hogwarts– that the ginger was enjoying at the moment. She wasn't too far off from the castle, but not too far off from the forest either. The girl laid on her stomach in the soft grass, propped up somewhat on her elbow as a piece of lead scratched across the large sketchpad in front of her. By now, her thumb and index finger were stained silver, shining dimly in the sunlight of the afternoon that wasn't obstructed by Hogwarts' enormous towers. The soft breeze that brushed across the open field ruffled her parchment, leaving her to move her elbow to hold down the corner of her paper and the pages of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them simultaneously. She glanced towards the forest, resting her skin on her arm as she pondered what creatures aside from the one she was currently drawing resided there, hoping she would get the chance to find out soon enough. A smile quirked to her lips as her braid fell back over her shoulder to brush across her paper for the umpteenth time.

Not long at Hogwarts at all, and she had already become fond of her house and those she shared the common room with. She found it a bit startling to think of those who feel they didn't belong in the house the sorting hat chose for them. Of course, she understood the prospect of judgemental parents, which lead to even more judgemental students... but the understanding was one thing and grasping was another. Glancing over her shoulder at the slightly imposing sight of the castle, Brianna settled on the realization that adults– aside from her brother and father of course– were very, very odd...

She had been kicking her feet enough that her tan flats had fallen off a few feet away, leaving her clad in her bright red Gryffindor socks. Her cloak had been spread out under her sketchbook as she drew, a silver watch ticking away on the very edge of her spread along with her book bag. Her uniform sweater with gold and carmine trim– her designated house colors of course– was a few sizes too large, leaving the sleeves to fall past her palms. It must have been a product of late uniform hunting, as students always seemed to find what they needed in Diagon Alley in just their size before the year began. The ginger strands coming out of her braid and brushing across her soft, freckled features left her to seem a bit disheveled, though she didn't seem mind in the least. Her sea green eyes were intense, focused on shading away at the niffler she had been drawing's short fur.

Lucien made his way to the grounds with two books in hand, a drawing notebook, and a black and silver book with no title. He usually carried both around with him everywhere he went. The weather was nice so he had decided to finally leave the shade of the castle. One particular person caught his eye however, a ginger haired girl who seemed focused on something in front of her.

The regal student slowly made his way over towards her curious to see what she was so focused on, perhaps it was nosy of him, but curiosity killed the cat. She seemed unaware of anything else due to being so focused on what was in front of her. He looked over her shoulder seeing a rather impressive drawing. "That's very nice, the drawing is amazing, good job. It's a Niffler, correct?" He said hovering over her a bit.

Perhaps speaking in complete silence when someone was focused on something wasn't a very well thought out plan. "Sorry if I scared you, I'm being a bit nosy. Would you mind if I sat with you? I apologize if I'm interrupting you, I have nothing better to do." Lucien said with a kind smile.

Luckily, Brianna had lifted the lead from the parchment before she startled some, looking over her shoulder up at Lucien. “I–it is... I’ve always loved care of magical creatures. If... that wasn’t obvious,” she said with a sheepish giggle, gesturing to the stack of books off to her left that ranged to all corners of the subject as far as creatures went. She handled the textbook in use with a sort of gentleness as she shut it, smoothing down the ruffled leaves of paper before hand. Little pieces of parchment were popping from the pages, messy ink scribbles beginning on the edge of every one visible.

The first thing she noticed about the boy was his regality, though it wasn’t the only thing she noticed. Her eyes flicked to the green and silver tie, though it didn’t linger there long before she met his blue eyes, innocent orbs judgment free despite his house. “Don’t be sorry! I honestly should pay more attention, I should,” she said, coloring rushing to her cheeks when she realized she repeated herself. She gestured her hand dismissively to his apology for disturbing her, effectively leaving the lead between her fingers to stain her skin more. The tug to the corners of her lips didn’t fade as she scooted over some to leave room for the boy on her cloak, patting the spot next to her. “Of course I wouldn’t mind. Do you draw too?” She slipped the pencil behind her ear as she sat up on her knees, focusing on tucking loose stands of her red locks back into her braid and getting her cheeks to cool down with a quirky, yet sweet smile.

Lucien laughed a bit looking over to the stack of books he hadn't seen earlier. Either he was going fully blind, or just wasn't paying attention. He wondered if heterochromia had anything to do with his eye sight. He made a mentally note to study up on the matter later in the day. He kept a smile on his face before sitting down beside of Brianna, she had made room on her cloak for him, which Lucien found extremely nice. She seemed to be the opposite of his sister, Brianna was gently and nice while Aravis was murderous and mean.

"Thank you, and yes, I draw quite often actually. There's nothing in this sketch book since it's new however." He said before realizing he hadn't introduced himself yet."Oh, where are my manners. I'm sorry I've forgotten to introduce myself. I'm Lucien Avery Escanora, pleasure to meet you. Feel free to call me Lu or Avery since almost everyone botches my first name." He said laughing slightly recalling the multiple people who couldn't get his first or last name correct. He opened his sketchbook to the front which was blank and quite a few pencils fell out of the book in front of him. He neatly arranged them before deciding that putting pencils inside of the book probably wasn't the smartest idea.

"Lucien Escanora..." she whispered to herself, committing the name to memory. There was the tug of a French accent on his name as if the language had been spoken often around her, or she knew the name's origin. Still, it was pronounced well enough, and with a little smile to boot. "When I do say your name, I'll be sure not to make a mess of it, yeah? I'm Brianna... Devos. The pleasure is all mine," she added her last name as if it wasn't very important. To someone like Lucien, who had the last name among the main houses listed if she was correct, she assumed it wouldn't be. She rolled the stem of a dandelion between her index and thumb, though not pulling it from the ground which only exemplified her gentle nature. "If I can call you Lu, you can call me Brie if you'd like. There's not much to my name to shorten I'm afraid," she said with a soft laugh, bringing up her hand to hide her smile. There were even freckles on the back of her hand, which continued visibly till they disappeared under her sleeve.

There didn't seem to be a mean bone in this girl's body. She was quite gentle, her knees and cheeks stippled with freckles as if she herself was the beginnings of a tentative painting. The blush to her face hadn't faded, though that was probably a drawback of having light skin and being so warm thanks to the sweater drawn over her shoulders. Only part of her collar was folded down over the neck of it, the other side popped up from her tilting her head to the left while drawing. Her gaze was smooth and easy to meet, even as she took a good look at his features with an unrestrained curiosity, seeing some resemblance to someone she swore her father mentioned. She drew her teeth over her bottom lip, looking away once she realized she was staring. "I'm sorry, you just look... familiar is all. Your eyes are lovely," she added the compliment with extream honesty, not giving it much thought as she looked back to the treeline for a moment before he introduced himself. She tilted her head some as he spoke, giving him her undivided attention till he finished speaking.

I'm sorry!

Lucien laughed a bit, still smiling. "Thank you, most people mess it up so horribly, it's nice to know someone can actually say it." He said before she introduced herself. Brianna Devos, the last name wasn't familiar to him but he would make sure he could remember it. This girl was literally the definition of delicate. Sure, Lucien's sister was delicate, by in a different way. Ara was so fragile she shattered and exploded at the slightest touch while this girl seemed calm and peaceful.

She then commented that he looked familiar, and commented on his eyes. He instinctively reached a hand to cover his green eye until he heard her finish the sentence. b]"Oh...thank you. Most people pick on me because of them."[/b] He said smiling happily, while lowering his hand back down to the sketchbook picking up a pencil off of it, drawing a few small lines and circles to begin his drawing. "Alrighty, Brie, what's you favorite magical creature? Out of all of the ones you've read about I'm sure you have one." He smiled. He found it interesting to see what other people liked and then compare his results to other people he knew.

He wondered if her favorite was a niffler since she had drawn one, maybe it was maybe it wasn't. Lucien had a tendency to draw his favorite on homework papers. Almost every paper he had ever turned in, had a small occamy doodle somewhere on the page.

Brianna frowned some when he went to cover his eye, catching the meaning behind the gesture. She had reached for a moment, perhaps to gently push Lucien’s hand away from obstructing his face before she recoiled sheepishly, guessing contact wasn’t yet warranted. “There is no need to hide it you know. I couldn’t imagine why they would, except maybe jealousy,” she stated with an affirmative nod. A small smile occupancies the blush that came back to her face at her near slip up. She wasn’t so much peaceful, though more aloof to danger which was what landed her in Gryffindor in the first place. Still, if there was an alternate definition of the word sweet, it would be Brianna.

Her sea green eyes lit up brilliantly when Lu asked his question as she visibly bit back an excited smile before he spoke. “A thunderbird, without a doubt! I believe I might actually…” she trailed off as she flipped through the messy pages of her large sketch pad which were littered with pencil and colored sketches of varying creatures of all sizes. She hastily tucked leafs of torn pages from other books perhaps away a bit neater as she panned through the content. She paused half way through as she found what she was looking for, a shy expression encompassing her face as she flushed, sliding out a large, folded canvas like parchment. She began to unfold the paper, it ending up not much smaller than the cloak spread out beneath them. Brilliant blue with flecks of smeared green running off canvas were the chosen colors for the unplanned background of the painting. The softness to the strokes not only mirrored her personality, but implied water color rather than the bolder strokes of oil used for the beginnings of the Thunderbird in the center of the page. Shimmering gold paint began at the top right of the creature’s feathers, colored with precision down to the strands that make them up. The color abruptly stopped about half way down it’s wing, revealing a light pencil sketch which mapped out the rest of the painting. “Well, it’s nowhere near finished… I do wish to one day go to America and see one in person. They really are magnificent creatures. I was going to see if maybe Headmaster Blackburn would let me charm and hang it once it's finished. It will be another few months though...” she explained, tracing her finger over the textured canvas of dried paint.

Lucien smiled slightly nodding his head. "Maybe so." He said looking down at his hands. He had always spent so much time trying to hide his eyes so compliments usually worried him. He knew the kids at his old school thought he was weird because he was different, even the richest pure-bloods could be bullied, something Lucien learned early on in life. He noticed Brianna's eyes practically light up when asked what her magical creature was. It was a thunderbird, not a niffler, his assumption was wrong.

Lucien's eyes glimmered with awe once he saw the painting. It was amazing. "It's so amazing, that's gorgeous. You know, my family goes on trips every summer, my Father usually let's us bring friends. If we go to America would you like to come along?" He offered with a smile. Even though he barely knew the girl, he felt as if he had known Brie for years. Something about her was calming, and reassuring to him, nothing like what he was used to. At home everyone except his Father, care-taker, and half brother were so cold to him., the kindness she was showing in her words and mannerisms were not what he had expected from someone who was a complete stranger.

She became a bit more shy, which unbeknownst to Lucien, was a rare thing for Brianna. When she was home and comfortable, it was honestly impossible to get her to stop, whether on creatures or painting, whenever her eyes lit up light the lights from the end of a wand. She carefully began folding up the large piece of canvas, undoing a few steps only to redo them, leaving the painting tucked back between pages of her sketchbook like it has never been touched before. “Thank you very much,” she said with a small smile tugging at her lips. Despite having just known him, and knowing he must have been a bit older than her, the prospect of a handsome boy with lovely eyes– had she mentioned that before?– complimenting her work left her a bit quieter than normal.

Brianna perked visibly, shifting onto her knees as she toed the ankle of her socks with her bare feet. She leaned forward some, a grin coming to her face as her palms pressed against the ground next to her to steady her stance. She wasn’t the most graceful girl… “You mean it?” she asked, excitement apparent in her voice. The pure genuine nature of Brie was astounding. There hadn’t been a flicker of doubt or suspicion in her features. Of course, in the wizarding world, that left her venerable… Still, the refreshingness of her personality must have made up for the aloofness she also possessed. The warmth in her gaze grew as she tried to poorly disguise how big her smile had grown by biting her lip.

Lucien smiled practically radiating in happiness. He nodded as he spoke once more. "Of course I mean it. Why wouldn't I?" He continued to smile, an odd thing for him really. He smiled happily as he moved his arm slightly backwards, resting his hand on the title less black and silver book he carried everywhere with him before his eyes shined with an uncertain emotion. Perhaps he shouldn't risk leaning on the book, it was very important after all.

"Maybe one day I could show you my art work as well. I didn't bring it with me this evening oddly enough. I usually have it with me."He said with a calm tone, moving a bit of hair out of his face, it was in his way as usual. "So, since you're clearly a first year, what do you think of Hogwarts so far?" He said steering the conversation away from trips and art for a bit. It was most likely a better way to get to know the girl beside him better. That's how most people got to know each other after all, questions could give a hint of one's personality after all. While questions only gave an inkling, time gave everything. He would have to make sure to continue talking to Brianna for the rest of the year, unlike what he did with most other people.
