The Hufflepuff Table 2018-2019
I listened carefully to the older girl. She was smart that was for sure. I should take some of her advice, it could be useful in the future. If I would have had a notebook I would have wrote it down. There was that word again- mudbloods. I knew very well what it meant. I never thought of it as an insult though. Then again, it was used for people lower than a pure-blood. My family had told me not to befriend people of lower status, but I thought otherwise. Instead of befriending them you could have a mass alliance.
She was getting frustrated from the group. They could just learn to say 'ok sorry for disturbing you' but no. They just kept carrying the conversation on. After Mibs talked some more she apologized to me in a odd sort of way. I couldn't help but sigh. I shook my head at what Miko had said. You couldn't just 'win your way to the top.' It was a complicated ladder of status and blood, quite literally. She wondered if he had even been through any hard times of family status. I wondered if these people were good people to align myself with. "Honestly how about we all shut up about this conversation and move on. The older student has made her point so why keep trying to fight it?" I said clearly irritated. It was like carrying dead weight. It wouldn't get you anywhere. Moving on would though. My way of speaking seemed to get less proper the more frustrated I got. I needed to work on that.

How's the bowtruckle? How's the bowtruckle!
Verla made her hands into fists and did everything she could to prevent punching the girl in the face, at one point, she wanted to. How could this person know about Oliver? She hadn't told anyone at the table besides Miko. Instead, she began to cry and ran away. She wanted Miko and Mibs to follow her, or slap her, or something. You don't do that to someone, what a jerk.
She hated that girl, and she normally didn't hate very many people, but she added what's-her-face to the list. She ran into someone and ignored their apology and kept running and sobbing. there was no way she could calm down now. When she was tired of running, she sat outside the great hall and cried with her hands in her face. She was afraid people could hear her. She would never forgive that girl for using Oliver against her.
Then she remembered her silent promise to professor Henley and wiped her eyes. When she calmed down, she walked toward the girl who was still standing and looked like her eyes were on fire. "Actually, he's great, yeah, I just saw him hunting not long ago in the woods, it's a shame you don't know a thing about friendship, or kindness for that matter." Verla flipped her hair as she turned around with a hmph, then sat down and talked with her friends, explained that she was okay. She needed Oliver to be done as her weakness, she didn't have him anymore.
Verla felt confident again, she refrained from punching someone, which normally, in this case, would've if she still had Oliver.

"Um....I guess I should apologize. Dorothy, I'm sorry for uhhhhh...what'd I do wrong again? Sorry I just forgot." Miko said, clearly confused. He watched as Verla ran away crying. The boy widened his eyes once she sprinted back and randomly sat down. "Girls are so complicated." he muttered under his breath.
Reaching into his pack, Miko grabbed out 'Hogwarts a History' and opened it. He began to skim the first page and was reading pretty quickly. "Interesting..." he grunted to himself. Closing his book with a loud thud, he shoved it back in his bag and folded his hands. "Appears that I still can not remember so I'm gonna need some help." Miko laughed to them.
Clearly he wasn't actually reading but neither was he trying to make it believable. The boy gave a small smile to the girls and laughed quietly at his own 'joke' if it could even be called that. It was childish to laugh at your own joke but if no one else would then he might as well do it himself. "Let's try to ease this. Er, Dorothy what is your favorite book personally and why?" Miko asked looking her dead in the eyes.

Verla tapped Miko on the head "so are boys!" Could anything else rude happen today? "And Dorothy thinks it's wrong asking people about their blood status. But there's nothing wrong with being curious, sure curiosity killed the cat, but satisfaction brought it back."
Verla hoped Miko would get over himself about girls being difficult. Boys were exactly the same, although Dorothy was being difficult. So she could see how some girls were difficult. And Dorothy hit her soft spot over and over again like some punching an open wound over and over again.
It hurt. Luckily, as far as she knew, Dorothy didn't know the business between her parents, it was none of her business anyway. Plus, she didn't talk much about them anyway. Verla was a second year too so she should be respected by Dorothy too.
Verla was nervous that she did know, and if she did, she could get a detention for punching the rude girl in the face. That was a fact she knew was waiting to happen. But she decided from now on to ignore the girl, no matter if she mentioned her parents or not. She chose that she wasn't worth anything in Verla's life, especially a detention, or expulsion.

The Hufflepuff Table 2018-2019
She had tried to ignore this girl, she had really tried but this was the last straw. The use of the word mudblood was unforgiveable, completly unforgivable. The fact that it was such a rude word upset her but what mostly upset her was what the word expressed. It expressed that muggle-borns were dirty, and that thier blood was dirty. It was unexeptable andshe had hated everytime she had found the word in one of her her books and got mad enough that she would stop reading the book and even in some books ripping the page out she got so mad. Hearing this word outloud however made her more mad that she had ever been in one of these cases
In the next moments she couldn't help herself, thewords just flowed out of her mouth in anger and honestly she didn't care. She took a deep breath and the the words came out in a waterfall. "Stop, just stop. I don't think you know how bad the word mudblood is and if you do thats even worse." She pased for a moment to calm dow a bit "I am a proud Muggle-born an I hate when people use that horrible word. Even if it is just a word in a book sometimes I rip the page out in anger because of how bad that word is." Her eyes screamed in anger and burned in flames because of all the anger she felt and the tone of her voice expressed it too.
"So if you are going to use words like that, please leave because I don't want to bein the same place as such a rude person." She finished this last bit with a huff and turned to Verla "I'm sorry about how rude she was to you, just don't let people like her get to you, they can be rude but they often don't know how bad their words can hurt others. Even if they do, they are idiots and don't deserve a response."

The Hufflepuff Table 2018-2019
Early September 2018
Silently, she had been eating her meal as she read over some notes. Her to do list was incredibly long and it was only the start of the year! All she had wanted to do was to eat her food peacefully. Serena sighed audibly as she heard the raised voices, irritated tones and harsh words being thrown around like a quaffle during a Quidditch match. For a house that was stereotyped for being kind, this sort of nuisance behaviour really wound her up. They were not only making themselves look bad but they were letting the whole house down.
The new appointed Head Girl was trying to eat her food in peace and quiet. Unlike Dorothy, she did not mind people talking loudly. She had no doubt that she did the same as a first year, that was simply just excited to be here. A lot had happened and a lot had changed that. She had been forced to grow up far too quickly, though parts of her was still as immature as ever. But with the new position came more responsibility. It unfortunately meant that she could not sit here and quietly eat her meal any longer.
A laugh escaped her lips, "Speak only to children equal to yourself?" Serena echoed the words that she heard before bursting into further laughter, "Respect those above you?" She continued. It was hilarious. Truly, it was laughable. She sounded very much like Serena's mother - but Dorothy was no more than a child too. She was barely a year older than the first years and here she was, trying to dominate some level of superiority. Serena could not help but laugh as her fellow second year sprouted out phrases as though she was a big superior being.
Picking up her goblet, Serena took a few sips of water before looking down the table. A pureblood girl she had met last year and over the summer at the Fawley Gala was sprouting out insults for such a minor reason. One that could easily have been dealt with politely. She reminded Serena of her older brother. "I suggest you keep your purist views at home, Shafiq. This is Hogwarts - and such behaviour is not tolerated here." Serena's usually kind voice was firmer. The usual smile that sported on her lips had turned into a blank expression. She had just spent the last month dealing with her own family's purist views and attending incredibly boring parties where she was forced to mingle with many more of these likeminded people. And she hated it. This was not Serena's mother, this was not the Towers' Mansion, and this was not appropriate for Hogwarts.
She had no patience for those who thought of themselves as better than someone else, especially based on something that was out of people's control - their blood. No one had the ability to choose their parents or bloodline - and should not be judged for that. "And what exactly do you think you've done to deserve that respect? Respect should be earned, not automatically granted on the basis of your parents." Serena continued, thinking it was absolutely ridiculous that someone was treating others that were no more than a year younger than her as inferior beings. Serena took a sip of her water as she pulled out some parchment from her bag, an ink pot and a quill. Taking a sheet, she quickly jot down a little note outlining the situation, addressed to the Charms Professor that she had seen earlier in her office, so she knew she would be there. "You’ve got precisely ten minutes to march yourself up to Professor Henley’s office with this note. I will follow you shortly, so make sure you get there before I do." She ended the matter on that, deciding that the mere use of the word 'Mudblood' was worthy enough to be punished. Serena would speak to a professor about this, reporting this behaviour. If Dorothy was lucky, she might escape a detention and be released with just a warning.
“Now, I suggest that you all enjoy your meal peacefully. I apologise that this is one of your first experiences at Hogwarts but I assure you that not everyone shares the same opinion. If, however, it ever comes up, do let a Professor or Prefect know,” Serena concluded as she looked at the group of first years and smiled softly, “I’m Serena, by the way, if you ever need me for anything.”
The Head Girl took a bite of her toast, chewing it silently before swallowing and continuing, "Now I understand fully how hard it is to lose someone you care about and I am sorry that that happened to you. However, bowtruckles are against the rules and you should never have had one in the first place. So when you say 'woods', I do hope you don't mean the Forbidden Forest." Serena glanced at Verla as she spoke, thinking of the only woods that really existed in Hogwarts... There was not really anywhere else for the bowtruckle to go. She could not remember the girl or who she was until Dorothy mentioned her name and the fact she had a bowtruckle. It was at this point that she recalled the redhead going up to Professor Wordsworth and fighting to keep her pet, even though it was very much against the rules. From her reaction, it appeared that the Professor said no... If Serena found out that the girl was breaking the rules, trying to keep visiting this creature that she had adopted as a pet, there would be another owl sent out.
Serena knew far too well what it felt like to lose friends. She had lost some of her closest ones, last year. That pain was one that she would carry with her for a while but she didn’t go around breaking rules to try and visit them. Those friendships were over, it was done now.

The Hufflepuff Table 2018-2019
SLAM! Dorothy's hands thwacked the desk as she stood from the table. The boy was asking more questions? As if- Oh crap. Dorothy's heart dropped from her chest to her stomach. Serena Towers was talking, and she was a freaking prefect. A new emotion filled her head and heart. Shame. Dorothy flushed crimson as the Hufflepuff prefect laughed and reprimanded her. She shoved her hands forcedly into her robe pockets and bit her lower lip. Serena questioned her, and that made Dorothy doubt herself. Was all this really about the others being quiet?
Shaking her blonde head, Dorothy reached out and took the note in her hand. The paper was smooth and cool against her hot fingers. How had this escalated so fast? Dorothy pinched the paper between her fingers so her knuckles turned white. She was angry, conflicted, and honestly? She was a bit nervous about taking this note to the professor. Sure, her mom would be thrilled to find she had been punished for her purist values, but for some reason that didn't make Dorothy feel any better. Did it matter what the teacher thought about her?
Dorothy glared at the people around her. She refused to cry or act scared. This was the beginning of a reputation she wanted to keep. They wouldn't see her weakness, and she would find theirs. God, that was dark! An eleven year old mind should be caught up in barbie dolls (whatever those were), friends, and the color pink. Dorothy often envied the lives of the muggle-borns. They had no pressure, no fear, no beliefs shoved down their throats. They could speak freely, play, and most importantly, they could choose their own friends. If Dorothy's step-mother wasn't so strict, would these be her friends? To have that kind of freedom would be... Odd.
The small girl couldn't help but feel that she should apologize. It would most likely shut down the entire conversation and gain her a little ground when it came to the professor. She would rather apologize on her own accord than be forced to do it by a professor. Dorothy scrunched up her nose like she was smelling something distasteful and held her hands stiffly behind her back. Turning to the children around her and nodding, she stepped backwards over the bench and spoke quietly. "I apologize for my rudeness. It was... undeserved." Her parents could never hear of this.
Not waiting for a response from the students, Dorothy turned on her heel and began walking back up the aisle. Her eyes felt hot and sore, her fingers hurt from holding the note so tightly.
Lets get this over with.

The Hufflepuff Table 2018-2019
As Cassia walked into the Great Hall, she couldn't help but marvel at the incredible ceiling above her. She had seen it before, but no matter how many times she saw it it didn't become any less astounding. As she walked through the aisle to find an empty seat at the Hufflepuff table, she smiled hugely at anyone who would look at her. Though she seemed extremely outgoing by the enormous smile she always had on her lips she was timid and opted for a seat away from everyone else as to not disturb any conversation they might be having.
She then focused on all the glorious food that was in front of her and after looking everything over she realised she didn't have the faintest clue what most of the food here was. Her mother was a muggle, and since she did all the cooking she wasn't very familiar with food from the wizarding world, so she just grabbed whatever was next to her and dug in. Cassia noticed she had made an excellent choice since whatever this was, was incredibly delicious and she quickly ate the rest of the food before shovelling even more onto her plate. After she finished the second round she sighed and slumped back against the back of the chair, Cassia decided to let all the food she just ate sink down before contemplating going into her third round.

"I know this Serena, that's why I gave him away. And no, not the Forbidden Forest, I mean the woods by the lake." Verla hugged herself, she'd won. She didn't feel very victorious though, especially after Miko saying what he said. She was glad Dorothy had apologized and left. "Thanks for saving us Serena, Miko is just a curious person, but you're right, it wasn't a good first experience for the new comers to have to experience her. What ever her name is. But I know now that having Oliver was against the rules, I've already made my peace with it, I just never expected someone to use him against me."
Verla smiled at the new kids and excused herself from the conversation with Serena and the others. She left with a smile on her face though. She saw Dorothy walking away and smiled and went the opposite direction to the Hufflepuff common room. She planned on working on her book and eating her cookies and drinking her coffee.
She got the coffee from the kitchen, she didn't go into the kitchen, but there was a pot in the common room every morning. She hoped that never ever ended.

The Hufflepuff Table 2018-2019
Riley sat down at the end of the table, still a little shaken by the whole sorting ceremony. She had never imagined that she might end up in Hufflepuff; it had seemed a given that she would end up in Ravenlaw or Slytherin. But her brother hadn't seemed too surprised, so maybe she'd assumed too much about herself and her family. She had always thought she was like the rest of her family, but maybe not.
She was so nervous, that her hunger from before had gone away. Still, Riley supposed that she should probably eat something, unless she get hungry after the food had disappeared. Then it would be too late. She reluctantly put her favorite foods onto her plate and then began slowly eating them. It helped to calm her a little bit, both the action of eating and the delicious taste of the food, but she could still feel the butterflies in her stomach.
It was more than just her house that made her anxious. It was the prospect of making new friends. She'd never had to do that before, having spent most of the time with her family, rarely ever seeing other kids. Here, though she could see Luke every now and then, she would have to meet new people.
She looked around, trying to tune into other people's conversations so that she might jump in and introduce herself. Hopefully there were other first years who would also be in need of friends, but as nervous as she was, she wasn't completely against forcing her way into a friendship if needed.
