Lea had not really meant to startle the other, one blank blink as she waited to see whether the student would actually respond. Turns out she did, the Hufflepuff a little surprised but content enough that the plan had actually worked. She hummed a bit in thought after the ravenclaw paused, nodding a bit. "History of Magic- it's alright." Not her favorite subject, but not the worst. "But what book are you reading?" Her head tilted, brown eyes glancing to see if she could identify it from here. It seemed as though she had gotten the full attention of the younger student, though, Lea also moving her notes to the side as the other shut her book.

"Who am I?" She repeated, a little incredulous. "Bit of a rude question- but I'm Lea, a third year Hufflepuff. I'm supposed" There was a heavy emphasis on supposed, "to be working on Transfiguration, but I got bored." The third year was not going to admit to a stranger than she could not understand the material. But that was enough about her for now. "It's-" The hufflepuff paused, contemplating, before starting back up what she was going to say. "It's nice to meet you. I have the same questions back- What's your name and year? Guess I already kind of know what you were working on, but anything interesting in your book or History of Magic work?" If not, Lea would have to find something else to talk about- or maybe pick up a book. The Ravenclaw had a good idea in that regard.

Ah, a first year. The third year nodded, hand reaching up to brush back her braid. "Charlotte," she'd repeat, more to herself than the other to try and remember the name should she need it later. The story was a little intriguing, though. "Reminds me of Artemis," she noted, "What's the book called?" Perhaps the third year would pick it up later during her evening read with hot chocolate. "I like that class too, but I think I like Charms more. More versatile." And she had very little to be afraid of. Not that she was afraid of DADA class, but it certainly had that air more than Charms.

What Lea wasn't expecting was to get into the existential territory. "Woah, from zero to a hundred alright-" she muttered, quickly racking her brain for how best to react. "Pretending like your troubles aren't there probably isn't going to help in the long run. It hurts, but it's better to tackle them than let them pile up." Who was she to give advice? The third year had very little experience, but she could relate it back to her studies or dueling. "What- what's going on right now that has you feeling that way?" A hand would awkwardly reach up, before resting it on the table towards the first year. This really wasn't what Lea had expected, shifting in her seat slightly as she struggled to offer help.

There- was a lot poured out at once. Lea simply stared at the other, only occasionally blinking as she attempted to grasp what all was being said. It felt as though the Hufflepuff's troubles paled in comparison, her mind blanking on what had caused the Third Year any potential distress in the first place. "Oookayyy..." She'd let out a long breath, taking the time to categorize her thoughts before it was time to share them out loud with the other student.

"Okay, first. The whole muggle to wizard transition is pretty tough. I know I've certainly lost some friends because we didn't talk as much. But I still have some of those muggle friends who are really cool, plus I made friends here." Who? Well, Lea actually wasn't too sure. But it sounded good and would likely comfort Charlotte. "So, I think the good friends will stay. And you'll meet cool people here." She'd nod, pausing to grapple with the next topic. Still a little shy, it was rather difficult to talk for long expanses of time without feeling self-conscious or a little awkward. But eventually the Hufflepuff would continue with her potentially advice-filled ramblings.

"As for the whole lying thing, that definitely sounds like a lot. Forcing you to join into that is unfair. I- uh- don't know how to help there. Is it a big lie?" She was grasping for straws, but maybe some new found information could help her help this student.

Lea had not expected that a random conversation in the library would pose such difficult questions. When did Charlotte decide that this Hufflepuff had all of the answers? The girl sighed, mentally kicking herself for having offered the advice. Her best bet would have been to quickly turn the conversation around, but now it was too late.

“I don’t know how deciding to randomly strike up a conversation in a library has led you to the idea that I have any clue on how to make friends,” She squinted at the girl before heaving another sigh. “But maybe it works? There’s also plenty of events or clubs going on around the castle at any moment- I’m sure you’ll be able to meet some people there so long as you have the confidence to start talking to them.” It was advice that Lea would be taking soon enough, although something that she was dreading. Talking was not her forte, even if she currently seemed to be doing alright at it. Making it was easier to offer advice than actually have a regular conversation.

As Charlotte told her stories and woes, Lea stared blankly at the girl. Her final decision on the matter? “That’s stupid.” She’d blink, before realizing that even if the other student’s mom was being weird, Charlotte probably didn’t want to hear her mother being called stupid. “I mean- she can do whatever. But like, both of my parents are muggles. They know I’m a wizard, so it seems silly to hide that away from your immediate family. Sure- outside family and friends I get. But your father and siblings? That’s just cruel.” Not much better than her previous statement, it at least had some evidence to back up her claim.

“Your siblings and father weren’t around when you got the letter? How do they even not know?” That was the more important question to Lea. Immediate family not knowing completely baffled her.
