Quidditch Slytherin vs Hufflepuff - Winter 2023

With points already beginning to climb, Ethen allowed his ears to pick up what was going on throughout the pitch. His primary concern was the well-being of his teammates. He trusted each of them enough to know they would all be playing as hard as they possibly could so he knew that he owed it to them to do the same. So while his ears listened, his eyes remained working for any sign of the snitch.

While making sure to stay at least a bit aware of any potential bludgers, Ethen scanned the pitch and tried to keep himself from blinking. All he would need was just the smallest glint somewhere on the pitch and he knew he would have it. As his eyes narrowed, a small smile spread across the boy's lips. He had seen the small golden wisp zip through the air and his eyes latched onto the sight. By the look of it, the Slytherin seeker hadn't had the same luck so he wasn't about to squander the good turn of fate.

It had taken a moment, but as Koko glanced around in the air, it was as if she and her teammates had finally regained feeling. She herself almost had pins and needles jabbing through her gloves as the shame of not having saved the goals got to her. However, it seemed the rest of the team were ready for their jobs, so this time, Koko would be sure to be ready for hers.

Before she knew it, Howard was at the goals with the Quaffle, but Koko was fuelled by anger and spite, and she would not let her team down again. She blocked twice, surprised Maggie hadn't been able to snag the first two Quaffles, but almost exactly as she thought that, she watched with wide, excited eyes as Maggie took the Quaffle to the unguarded Hufflepuff goals and scored twice. Yes!

Koko would have to congratulate the younger Slytherin later. That had been awesome.

She was a bit distracted by Maggie's prowess when Howard came with the next Quaffle, and Koko would grit her teeth as she heard the commentator announce the ten points Koko had not been able to negate from the Puffs.

It didn't matter, but what did matter was that Tyranni and Cash were sharing brooms. Already down a beater... Koko began to sigh but caught herself midway through it. She hoped that no one on the team, including herself, would let any of this get to them. They were doing well enough, and they would continue to build momentum.

Excels at catching falling allies as well as getting them back to their broom quickly.

This broom can carry multiple people. When someone uses the catch option to rescue a falling teammate, they can catch one additional teammate in a given round. If the user has the ability Catch then a user can catch an indefinite number of teammates in a round, but for each person they catch after the first there is a stacking 20% auto-failure chance.

On the next round, as a free action (meaning both users can make a normal action) the rider and ONE passenger (if there are multiple sharing the broom, it would cost both of their actions to return them to their broom also) can retrieve a single broom.

Starting the game with uncontested points was a fantastic way to get things rolling but it seemed like the snakes still had at least a little bit of a bite left. As with most games, Atlas knew that things could get aggressive pretty quickly which tended to mean lots of people falling off their brooms.

With the slight lead, Atlas knew she could at least spend some of her attention watching out for her teammates. While she didn't love the thought of potentially letting Slytherin score on her, she knew it wouldn't matter anyways. Flicking her eyes to watch a sudden protective move from Rita, Atlas watched as her teammate was tossed from her broom.

There was no hesitation in diving in to save their teammate. Narrowing her eyes and grinning in defiance toward the other team, Atlas caught Rita.

"I know I am fun to fly with, but you don't have to get knocked off brooms to say hi," Atlas playfully called back to Rita as she made sure her new passenger was secure. "Now hold on, don't want you falling off before we can get you a bit of revenge," she said in a sudden menacing tone that was slightly diminished by her dramatic laughing.

Fear effects such as a dhmpir's aura, the ability terrible presence, a lycanothrope's intimidation or certain charms, potions and jinxes that would normally cause a fear effect do not work on you as you are immune to them.

Keepers Catch
10% chance to automatically block an attempt to score a goal as long as the Keeper is in the goal area. If an attempt to score has been blocked through this effect, the Keeper may as a free action hurl the quaffle at the opponent team in an attempt to injure a player of their choice (it would be recovered with a quaffle grab action) and treated like a bludger or pass the quaffle to a team mate. This must be declared by the Keeper if either of these free actions are to be utilized.

Evasive Maneuvers
Harder to hit on average, 10% on auto-dodge chance that anything that targets this wizard automatically misses. This is rolled separate from the attack roll.

The small boy hadn't spoken with Jack very much, but he was surprisingly sincere and easy to chat with. How had he not struck a real conversation with the upperclassman before? "Oh darn, that's tough," Avery would ponder Jack's words quietly for once, wondering what it would be like to like someone so much, only to be left alone to sort out your own feelings, hoping those feelings would fade one day. In a way, Avery could almost relate. "Well, forget them! I dunno much about love and whatnot, but sounds like you gotta put yourself out there and find someone new, or something!" he rattled on, giving some (inexperienced) advice when it wasn't asked for.

Rainwood never had any problem with his love life? Avery's jaw almost dropped. He found that very hard to believe. Sure, he wasn't hard on the eyes (he guessed *eyeroll*) but who could possibly like a goon like Rainwood? If he was so nasty to a likeable, good boy like Avery himself, how well could he possibly treat anyone else? He squinted his eyes at Rainwood and tried to picture what type of person the older boy could possibly date. Perhaps bullies all secretly liked getting bullied themselves. That's it: A strong, domineering type of girl who whooped butt at everything and shoved his nose in the dirt seemed like the type for Rainwood.

And it seemed that he was half-right. "Opeila??" Avery exclaimed, before bursting out laughing so that a snort came through his nose. "So, our prefect made you quake in your boots so badly that you had to rehearse it, huh?" Well, that made sense! She was in dueling and took up leadership roles around the school. The type that could definitely make minced meat out of Rainwood.

When Jack directed a question to Avery, the small boy tapped his chin and spoke without any concern as to who was listening. "Nah, not really. I wrote a Valentine's note to a girl last year, asking her to the ball, but she didn't even open it. So, it probably wasn't going to work out anyway. Ah well, I don't want to let that get me down. Gotta just live life and not worry too much, you know?" Easier said than done, but that was his mantra.

At that moment, he was called to fly. "Watch me help us win this game!" He stood up, and bid his benched teammates goodbye.

Up he flew, setting his sights on one Quinn Healy. He grit his teeth and tried to give them a good hard knock, but classmate Rita Su sped in his way. "Whoops, sorry Rita! Maybe fly the other direction, next time?" he hollered, as the girl tumbled off her broom. Thankfully, or unthankfully (he wasn't sure which he preferred), she was caught by her teammate.

Darn, the ref caught him. Guess he had to go on that lap, but he still brought the action to the game during his first seconds of being Chaser.

Still perched on the edge of her seat, Avery did her best to follow the rapid movements of both teams as they zipped back and forth across the field. The fight for the quaffle was one of the most intense she'd seen yet. There was a sympathetic wince as their captain's bludger just barely missed flattening Alma, but the first year couldn't help the quiet sigh of relief at the sight of Rita being caught.

Alma was feeling good as she got in formation flying next to Howard and Clark. Although Maggie scored 20 points for the Slytherin team, their star chaser (in Alma’s eyes) managed to grab another 10 for Hufflepuff. She was so excited about the points she nearly missed Quinn’s misdirected bludger. Luckily, she managed to dodge out of the way just in time for it to not hit her. She gave a quick frightened (but pleasantly surprised) look towards Avery before getting back in the game, shaking off the fright.

Whatever daze the Slytherin team was in, they finally heard the wake-up call and got into action, unfortunately. This resulted in several things happening, not all that bad. The first being Howard managing to grab the quaffle three times, but only to score 10 more points for Hufflepuff. Koko was a good keeper and the Slytherin chasers also decided to go for the quaffle and scored against them twice. Overall, they still had the lead in points, and although quaffle points were important so was the snitch. A quick groan from the stands alerted her that something had happened, likely a collision. Indeed, it was, as Cassandra a Slytherin beater now shared the broom with Tryanni, a chaser. And again, this time groans coming from the opposite sides of the stands, making her wince. The announcer again informed her of Rita being knocked off her broom only to be saved by Atlas. Annie merely rolled her eyes, they wouldn't have gotten those two points if Atlas was blocking but then again she came in handy and saved Rita's body from colliding into the ground. It was also to be noted that Ethen spotted the snitch. Her face lit up in excitement, two rounds in and no one was out of the game yet while the teams were currently evenly matched. It was anyone's game.

They were a bit behind but they would make up for it in time. Hufflepuff was thought of as the hug-house but she had played them enough to know that the love their offensive. A couple of brick walls among them. She was usually taken out first or not at all. She would call to their captain Dan Palmer -"could probably take one of them down on your word."

Percival turned his gaze back towards Burnett with an annoyed look. Not enjoying the other pointing out his flaws despite it being true. Besides, that was almost four years ago. He was just a first year, a time when he had been far less sure in himself. The person that he was then was far different from the person who now sat upon the wooden bench. Everything back then had felt easier and less complex than it did now. Percival would frown slightly before rolling his eyes at Burnett. "Well I still got the girl, did I not?" he asked in a taunting manner. A smirk pulling across his features.

Quidditch Slytherin vs Hufflepuff - Winter 2023
Jack smiled sadly at Avery's words, grateful for his encouraging comments and nodding in agreement. "Heh...I probably shouldn't bother with romantic relationships anyway. I mean, I know you can't help it if you like someone, but...I can't even handle friendships, let alone more." Friendships were bad enough, but romance? That was a whole new set of problems that he didn't need or want.

Of course, that made him all the more curious as to how others got along with their relationships and managed to survive. When Jack had asked Percival about his love life, he had been genuinely curious and not just asking to tease him. It was only after Percival had claimed that he'd never had a problem that Jack figured he'd point out he didn't think that was exactly the case.

Avery's explosive laughter was contageious and pretty soon, Jack found himself laughing too. "She wasn't a prefect then, I don't think," he tried to tell Avery, though he knew that didn't make much of a difference. Opeila had still pretty much been...well, Opeila. She liked to be in command of things and to lead others.

Then it was Avery's turn and Jack listened with interest. He was shocked to hear that a girl Avery had written a Valentine's note to hadn't even opened it and his jaw dropped. "What?! That's terrible!" Had she really disliked him or something? Maybe she had just never gotten around to it? No, that couldn't have been it. Who wouldn't read a Valentine's note addressed to them, even if it was just out of sheer curiosity? "If she wasn't even willing to give you the chance, she definitely didn't deserve you. I'd say you're better off without her. And like you said, we just have to move forward from times like those."

He was about to give Avery a supportive pat on the back, but just then the benched chaser was called into play, so he gave him a supportive thumbs up and a reassuing grin instead. And, just as Avery had asked, Jack watched him play.

What Jack witnessed shocked him, however, and not in a good way. Had...had Avery just tried to blatch Quinn? The illegal move had been the very thing he'd had an argument with a Ravenclaw over after their last game when the Ravenclaw team had pulled the same stunt. Jack was all about bending rules, but not breaking them. He couldn't abide such behavior; much less from his own teammates.

Spirits sinking, he wilted in his seat, his enthusiasm for the game leeched from him. Glancing over at Flash once again, he wondered idly what the other boy was thinking. Had he realized Flash had decided that game would be his last, he'd have known then and there that it would be his own last game, too. Team competitions and sports like this weren't for him, especially with the hazardous cheating and pointless bludger danger involved. Without his roomate, his sole purpose for being there, he had no reason to take part in Quidditch any longer.

"You did, Rainwood," Jack replied to his other dormmate with a weak smile. "It's just a shame...you're not still together, are you?" And he meant it, too. It was a shame that people changed and found reasons to become unhappy with one another. As far as he knew, Percival and Opeila weren't in a romantic relationship anymore, though Jack had no idea why. It wasn't really his business in the first place, but it still made him melancholy to think about.

- In the role of Keeper when you attempt to block your goal, if your opponent somehow has advantage on attempting to score a goal, that is negated (they only have their normal single roll against you).
- In the role of Keeper, if the Keeper effectively blocks an attempt to score rather than obtain possession of the quaffle they can kick the quaffle at the user who attempted to score. This must be declared at the time actions are submitted. This would have damage like a bludger using an accuracy roll to hit and the user's strength score to determine the amount of damage done. If the quaffle hits or misses the target, a quafflegrab the next round would be necessary to determine which team has possession of the quaffle again.
