Thrills & Chills Bash
Ginyami considered what Valentin said about it being better to have had something real and painful in his opinion. Could that really have been his truth? If someone was addicted to something and then they lost it, was it really better that they once had had it than them having never known it at all? Ginyami had his doubts. However, he had never experienced such a thing, so it was difficult to tell for sure. Still, it seemed like he had undergone a lot of new experiences lately, so perhaps he would come to find out for himself one day. Maybe even one day soon.
"Then I won’t," he answered when he was asked never to spare his peer. He found it a strange thing to ask, but it was just one more of the many things about Valentin that Ginyami found to be strange. It was part of what made him so fascinating to the fox. True, as the Durmstrang student had suspected, Ginyami might not have worried about being alone as much as his words might have implied, but he did worry about losing Valentin - at least before he could unravel the mystery that was the famous quidditch captain. Just how much of raw Ginyami could Valentin take before he had to turn away? But then, didn’t the answer to that question bring its own insight into the kind of person the seeker really was?
There was that laugh again. The Mahoutokoro boy couldn’t help but smile when he heard it. I wonder what the limits of that patience are, he pondered silently to himself. I look forward to finding out. You are bound to entertain me for a while yet, white seeker; I’m certain of it.
After their mouths met and Ginyami passed on the grape, he regretted that it had only lasted a mere few seconds, however prolonged they might have been. He had never before been a part of such intimacy. Whether it was mutual respect, like, or something else they shared, it was a connection that he felt both physically and emotionally and he relished it all. So when he felt the wall at his back, he only hesitated for a shocked moment before he completely fell into the passion of the new, proper kiss.
It wasn’t until his tongue brushed against Valentin’s lips and those lips refused to part that he realized something was wrong and sought to find himself. What was he doing? He was doing what he liked which was a rare act when his inclination was usually to do what others wanted. But what did Valentin want? Up until that point, Ginyami had thought Valentin wanted this too, but had he taken things too far?
Feeling his companion pull away, his narrow eyes fluttered open slowly. Steady hands gripped his arms and Ginyami felt himself being pulled up against Valentin’s chest, too close and too tightly to see his face. Confusion and concern creased the Japanese boy’s brow, his cheeks still warm and ruddy. "Valentin…?"
It was then Valentin proceeded to tell him that he wanted this, but he had to warn him. That he promised he would make it safe for him, so he wanted him to unlock him over time. Ginyami couldn’t help but feel slightly indignant when he was warned he could be destroyed. Standing there watching the taller teen shiver, he was sorely tempted to try him, curious as to just what kind of power Valentin feared he could harm him with. But by then he had regained most of his senses and with his better judgment decided to back off as the alabaster king had encouraged - at least for now.
"...Yes, we should probably rejoin the party," he agreed as he suppressed his reluctance behind a practiced, pleasant smile. "I could do with a little competition." Perhaps it would be a good way to use up the adrenaline that had started to course through his veins. Offering Valentin his coat, he held it up to allow its owner to slip his arms in through the sleeves easily if he so chose.

Thrills & Chills Bash

Did the Hell-Chaser regret a single addictive thrill he had ever pursued? He had almost killed his friends, even, back when he courted Stribog’s kiss. He could have killed Mikael that day in the library before he even knew why it was he burned the lovely boy up. Yet, it was not the thrill, never the thrill he regretted. What Val hated was his failure to make the outcome worth the price. Ever since he died at the water’s edge, Valya swore that satisfying his ego could never be worth what he did to them – only helping his people with a greater good could be worth such risk. Besides, alone, couldn't he do what he liked so long as he isolated himself from others more properly?
"Promise you won't go alone again! Frost!" echoed Charles’s memory, but where was he now to go on such thrills? No, there is no point in it anyway. I’ll shoulder the risk myself so that people like Charles can live as freely as children – no, freer. Even freer. Maybe one day… one day I won’t be alone walking the knife’s edge. With a sardonic grin, Valentin shook his head. Wishful thinking, Valik. Watch. Valentin sighed as he pulled Ginyami into his chest.
“I want this. I want this so bad, can you see? You set me on fire. I want to completely devour you. Just, I have to warn you. I promised I would make it safe for you. For your own protection, I want you to unlock me over time. Take me, ALL of me, but piece by piece. Please. If you take me on too fast, I could destroy you. I am the broom that can kill you if you don't know how to use me. Learn to master me so that you can truly channel my full power. First you must understand that my heart is wild. You must tame me if you truly want it all.”
Valentin’s body shuddered under the power of his shackled wish. Just watch.
“Listen, the bash is ending, and Kim and Hiro are waiting for us. We shouldn’t worry them. You know, I heard something about a competition… How about it?” Valentin stared into black eyes, his face as blank as a marble statue’s.
"...Yes, we should probably rejoin the party." Ginyami buckled under the force of habit, shuttering his truth away behind a sickeningly trite smile. "I could do with a little competition." It was considerate to offer Val back his goblin king coat, but a twitch of Valentin’s eye gave split-second warning before the tall athlete shoved Ginyami back against the wall.
“So you like competition? Challenge, even?” hissed the frost captain. “I thought we understood each other, Ginyami. I will be patient with you, but you have to try. Do you think I will be plied by your fake smile? For the third time, don’t spare me. NEVER spare me. Tell me the TRUTH. You told me you don’t want to wear the mask anymore, so if you don’t take it off, I will tear it from your face.” Pressing harder so that Ginyami would feel the solidity of the wall behind his back, Valentin snarled through the sensation of hot breath rushing from his nostrils. “If you will use the frost captain, you must give yourself to the path you asked him to take you down. I never said it would be easy nor painless. You have to trust me. If you want me, then you have to give yourself to me. Now tell me the truth.” The captain’s voice rumbled, but it was his diamond-sharp eyes that cut straight into Ginyami’s soul.
“What do you really think? What do you really want? Show me.”

Though he caught the twitch if Valentin's eye, Ginyami was not quick enough to decipher its warning before he was was bodily slammed back against the wall yet again. He needed a second to catch his breath, but he didn't know whether it was due to the air being forced out of him from the shove or the sudden intense tension between them. Once he listened to what the frost captain had to say, however, his grin broadened and he laughed a little darkly.
"We understand each other, do we?" he asked. "Then do you not understand that I am simply following your lead? If you so dearly want this, as you stated in your own words, then why are you holding yourself back? You say it is for my sake, but then are you not 'sparing me' like you asked me not to spare you? Sparing me your true self instead of trusting me with it - is that not hypocritical of you? Unless you did it purposely as some sort of test to see if I would remain honest while you did not. You were the one who first suggested we go back. I just agreed."
Ginyami was astounded to see this rougher, more forceful side of the Durmstrang boy as he was pressed harder against the stone at his back, but he was intrigued by it. This snarling, hissing dragon - was this what had been waiting behind those crystal eyes all this time? For how long? How many had seen it?
He leaned his face closer to Valentin's, his grin taking on a wicked, taunting quality. "Take my mask from me if you can, then. But know that in doing so, you expose more of your true self as well. And that is something I would very much like to see - regardless of the harm you seem to think it will cause me." He tilted his head, beaming. "After all, you would be taking that same risk learning who I really am. Or did you not consider that would be the case? Mm?"
Chuckling a little, he released a small sigh. "'What do I want'? 'Show you'? I could, but as you have said, we have kept the others waiting and the party is almost at its end. Perhaps this should wait for another time, do you not think so? A time when neither of us has to hold back or 'spare' the other."

Valentin listened closely as the Japanese boy’s demeanor took a dramatically different turn. Sparing him my true self? Testing his honesty but not reciprocating? Oh no, he really doesn’t understand after all. It’s like Charles said about being on the other side of the glass. Ginyami is seeing his own reflection, not the real me.
“Understand me now, Ginyami. I am not sparing you any truth. With perfect honesty, I told you everything, taking the time to even explain the hazards of my power. All of this is the real me, both my hunger and my self-control. Please, take me apart to see every piece. I need you to succeed, and I will take your mask away as you asked. All of me is right here, in your hands, as transparent and multifaceted as a crystal.” Valentin smiled as his fingers scratched softly across the boy’s shoulder, his arm uncoiling as it snaked slowly up to Ginyami’s neck. “Thank you for following my lead, kaderlem. Now, please, commit this truth to your deepest heart: a good king is not alone, but unified with the spirit of his people. That is why the king has power, to serve his people, but he must know the full truth of what his people want and need. If you are dishonest with me, or lie to yourself, you will eventually self-destruct when using my power. If it is your true wish to go back now, then why was your smile so fake?” Valentin’s eyes gazed into the black depths of Ginyami’s pupils.
“Yes, I want to devour you,” said the colddrake. “Right now.” The long claw-like fingers of his gloveless, snow white hand dove deep into the black tendrils of the boy’s hair. Ginyami’s wicked tone, slick with candor, proved much more appetizing… and as Valentin leaned in, his eyes fixed upon the curves of two perfect lips. “Yet, I also want more. I want it all – for you to achieve your dream, and for you to use me to the absolute fullest. In order for me to take all of you, you must survive taking all of me. When you kissed me like that, it was good and true. Next time I will not resist. I will entrust you with that power. You simply must know first to be careful, because as I give you more of myself, you take on the danger ever faster.” Valentin’s hand slid down from Ginyami’s hair to wrap about his shoulders, like a serpent encircling his beautiful neck from behind.
“The king is but one man, and controlling the power of the colddrake is… just be careful with what you tell your king. You told me your highest will is to remove your mask, and so I will have faith in your declaration, bending myself and you according to that clarity of purpose. The voices of many wishes all clamor inside me, and the captain’s job is to hear the truest wish and fulfill it, resolving contradictions and bringing about the most good. If you do not show me the real breadth and depth of your many wishes, how am I to find the best path?”
Valentin’s grasp slid away and he took a step back, putting himself in perfect range of Ginyami's sights. Then, the goblin king's hand pulled the linen of his deep-cut tunic to one side, his face taut with conflict.
“This is where my heart is. I hide nothing from you. Inside of me, wild power tears at me, trying to get out, but the king’s hand must guide it in fulfilling your highest wish, even when other wishes come into conflict. Perhaps it is best that we return, but how am I to know the truth if you won’t open up all of your feelings to me as they really are? Refute my suggestions if they do not align with that, but trying to deceive me with false pleasantry sickens me like poison. If you fail in your mission, it will destroy me as well. This is why you should take on more power with time, lest you unravel the kingdom unawares. I am strong and can endure great abuse. However, with enough corruption you can destroy even my sanity, and through me, yourself.”
Closing his eyes as he let the soft cloth fall back over his heart, Valentin sighed.
“What is your true wish? Is it time to return? It felt wrong to let us go the way we were…” Valentin’s eyes opened again as he looked over Ginyami with a hopeful but worried expression.

Thrills & Chills Bash
Ginyami’s smile melted away as Valentin explained he was being perfectly honest. It was true, he had been so far as Ginyami could tell. But then why had he stopped when they had been kissing, especially if Valentin wanted it? Was it due to his self-control as he said? That still didn’t explain why his self-control was making him hold back in the first place. He closed his eyes as he felt the fingers of his companion scratch his shoulder and move up his neck. He wasn’t used to others seeing through his facades. Valentin really was astute to notice his smile had been fake. Ginyami marveled at the ability and became slightly unnerved by it at the same time. If Valentin could read him like a book, then his mask already seemed useless before the boy. But if he was going to try to take off that mask, at least around the Durmstrang student, then that didn’t really matter, did it?
He leaned into the hand that enveloped itself in his hair, dark eyes opening at the elaboration of Valentin’s wants. It was so odd; Ginyami was so used to using people, yet he had no desire to use Valentin despite the boy’s own expressed desire to be used. He supposed he could, if that was what Valentin really wanted, but the idea just didn’t sit well with him for some reason. He wondered again what danger the other teen meant when he said he would ‘take on the danger ever faster’ as he gave him more of himself, but perhaps he would find out. Until, then, though, he couldn’t bring himself to be afraid or even worried.
The seeker removed his hand and stepped back before pulling aside part of his tunic, exposing his chest where his heart beat. Ginyami carefully examined it and the conflicted countenance of his peer, curious. "Please forgive me," he requested, looking away when the white-haired king mentioned that the fox’s attempt at deceit sickened him like poison. "It was a force of habit. Let us hope you do not have to suffer great abuse - especially for my sake."
When he heard the sigh escape the captain, he finally returned his gaze to him. "My true wish?" he repeated. His voice when he spoke again was matter-of-fact in nature, but his flushed complexion told the true story of the very real effort it took to speak the words he did. "...My true wish would be to remain here with you, kissing late into the night. But as we can hardly do that, I saw little reason to mention that particular desire of mine." The Mahoutokoro pupil frowned then, as if only just realizing the taste of his raw honesty and disliking it. Nevertheless, he shook it off and promptly threw Valentin an irritable look, crossing his arms over his chest.
"There. Are you happy now?"

Thrills & Chills Bash

For as perceptive as the eagle-eyed seeker was, and however renowned his ability to see into the very souls of others, Ginyami’s mask obscured much from Valentin. Certainly the captain could spot deception, but the complex truth behind it proved much harder to understand. Knowing he could not truly love an illusion of a boy, Valentin was not yet sure how to feel about the real Ginyami. Certainly the boy was intelligent, thrilling, and even intoxicating, but Valentin’s wild heart could not be captured as easily as a spring lamb by just anyone. Still, it was Valya’s way to search the darkest depths for one who needed him, and he wished to help Ginyami in earnest regardless of the risk it posed to himself.
"Please forgive me," asked the fox, looking away. "It was a force of habit. Let us hope you do not have to suffer great abuse - especially for my sake."
“I forgive you. Let’s keep trying. I’m sorry if I’ve been unclear – surely all this is a lot to take at once, and you’ve been doing so much to take care of me tonight. Thank you, Ginyami.” As the cloth fell back over Valentin’s heart, he sighed and asked what Ginyami really wanted to do.
"...My true wish would be to remain here with you, kissing late into the night… There. Are you happy now?" With his frown, irritable glance, and the crossing of his arms, Ginyami’s truth only elicited a glowing smile from the goblin king.
“You are so cute,” Valentin chuckled. “Yes, I am happy now. Very happy.” Digging into the boy’s arms, the seeker extracted Ginyami’s left hand and began to hold it as gently as a baby snidget. Affection warmed Valya’s argentium-sheen eyes and he passed his thumb across bone and sinew while his free hand claimed Ginyami’s other hand, too, from its place beneath his coat. Weaving their fingers together, Valentin’s voice whispered in silky tones. “If you also want that, perhaps a compromise is in order. Why don’t you try it again after the competition, when I see you back to the Mahoutokoro cabin?”
Squeezing each hand, Valentin leaned in to nuzzle the blackness surrounding Ginyami's ear once more. Peace and strength filled the seeker as he drew a long, deep breath and exhaled. When the Mahoutokoro seemed genuinely satisfied, Valya would pull back one last time with a smile like dawn.
“I'm ready now. Could you please try putting the coat on me again?”

The fox gave the goblin king a sidelong glance when he noticed the other boy’s radiant smile and his complexion darkened with crimson once again as he was called cute. He would have liked to protest that, but Valentin also stated he was very happy and that was enough to pacify Ginyami, so he let the comment slide. He also allowed his peer to retrieve his left hand while his right continued to clutch the coat, looking between Valentin and the hand he grasped so gently. Gradually, the Durmstrang student took his other hand as well while the coat remained draped over his arm, their fingers interlocking.
Ginyami blinked at Valentin’s suggestion that he try again after the competition, blushing harder than ever. "I suppose I could do that," he answered in a whisper to rival his companion’s. "Provided we make sure Hiro isn’t around first. He’s never going to let me live this down."
He felt the squeeze of his hand and squeezed instinctively back, his ear tingling as Valentin nuzzled the hair near it. Hearing the seeker inhale deeply, Ginyami closed his eyes and did the same, exhaling when the other teen did as well. Once he had regained his composure and his complexion was back to normal (or so he hoped), he turned back to Valentin and heard him state he was ready before he asked him to try putting the coat on him again.
"Of course, Your Majesty," Ginyami teased with a genuine smile of his own, extricating himself to spread open the coat so he could slide each of the other’s arms through the sleeves. Once they were through and Ginyami had readjusted the coat so it sat just right over its owner’s shoulders, the Japanese youth lead the way back into the ballroom where the party was taking place, opening the door to allow Valentin inside first.

Erin stopped in front of a poster on her way to the library.
Erin perked up. Tonight was October 22, and it was already six o'clock! "Screw the library," Erin said to herself as she turned and ran back towards Ravenclaw tower, the perfect costume idea vivid in her mind.

It was definitely past seven o'clock when Erin finally reached the entrance to the party, but that didn't matter for her. She was excited to show off her costume and makeup, which resembled a creepy, chipped and cracked porcelain doll with bright, red circles for cheeks and a dirtied, white lace dress complete with ripped tights and bloodied white shoes and gloves. "This is perfect," Erin thought to herself before taking a deep breath and opening the doors to where the party was being held. Erin was surprised, though, to see herself clouded in darkness with cobwebs all around her as the door behind her slammed shut. "Nothing like a good entrance," Erin chuckled to herself as she pushed through the darkness, feeling her way across the walls and cobwebs until she finally made her way into the main room. Erin grinned, taking in the marvelous decorations strewn about the room.
"This is going to be so much fun," Erin thought as she walked further into the room, excited about all that would come that night.
