Quidditch Slytherin vs Hufflepuff - Winter 2023

Cracking her neck and fingers as she hovered in front of the goals, Atlas took a moment to focus her characteristically scattered mind. Working to dull the infectious roar of the crowd and the expected boos, Atlas inhaled deeply, cracking her neck once more as the whistle sounded the start of the game.

Exhaling, the young girl’s eyes flicked to the center of the pitch as Howard effortlessly grabbed the quaffle scoring just as quickly as he had taken possession of it as her head subtly cocked in confusion, paired with a tick of her eyebrow.

Expecting some kind of trick play or foul, Atlas’ eyes narrowed watching intently as her teammate scored 40 more points for their team uncontested.

Had Ethen’s taunt truly gotten into their opponents’ heads?

A coy grin tugged on her lips as she felt the cold air nipping her stationary body. Letting out a breathy laugh to herself, Atlas lightly adjusted her weight on her broom to keep herself from going rigid as she prepared herself for what was to come.

Keepers Catch
10% chance to automatically block an attempt to score a goal as long as the Keeper is in the goal area. If an attempt to score has been blocked through this effect, the Keeper may as a free action hurl the quaffle at the opponent team in an attempt to injure a player of their choice (it would be recovered with a quaffle grab action) and treated like a bludger or pass the quaffle to a team mate. This must be declared by the Keeper if either of these free actions are to be utilized.

Evasive Maneuvers
Harder to hit on average, 10% on auto-dodge chance that anything that targets this wizard automatically misses. This is rolled separate from the attack roll.

Koko had been excited for the match–perhaps too excited. She waited for instructions, but either they didn’t come, or, through her excitement, she didn’t hear them. She waited around the goals, but far enough so that if she was needed elsewhere she wouldn’t be too far from wherever anyone needed her.

The thing was, direction never came, so when Howard flew past her not once, not twice, but five times, she didn’t do anything. Her knuckles whitened beneath her gloves as she gripped her broom more tightly. She gritted her teeth as she watched Howard, and she would eventually fly closer to the goals–but not close enough. Not quickly enough.

The wind whipped around her face as her blood boiled with anger. It was mostly self-directed, at this point, but she would vow to keep a better eye on everything occurring around her. There was no ‘I’ in ‘team’, after all.

She looked around, though, searching for each and every one of the Cloud Cobras, and that anger shifted into bitter disappointment. It wasn't just her. All of them were stationary, unmoving, like a branch on a still day. What... What had happened?

Excels at catching falling allies as well as getting them back to their broom quickly.

This broom can carry multiple people. When someone uses the catch option to rescue a falling teammate, they can catch one additional teammate in a given round. If the user has the ability Catch then a user can catch an indefinite number of teammates in a round, but for each person they catch after the first there is a stacking 20% auto-failure chance.

On the next round, as a free action (meaning both users can make a normal action) the rider and ONE passenger (if there are multiple sharing the broom, it would cost both of their actions to return them to their broom also) can retrieve a single broom.

Avery couldn't help but let a sigh of relief fly at the start the badgers had. It was considerably less brutal than the first minute of the last game, considering every player remained blissfully airborne. She cheered for her team as both bludger and quaffle hit their marks, nearly tumbling forward off the bench in her excited anticipation. Intimidating as their opponents looked, though, she knew better than to underestimate any of them so early on.

The game began and the pitch was abuzz with excitement. Or, well, at least it would have been had it not been for the Slytherin team’s odd choice of opening strategy. As Hufflepuff scored again and again, the snakes would only let them fly by, barely paying attention as it seemed due to the circumstances. Well, a win is a win. They just needed to watch out for the next round.

Everything started off well. That was unusual. It seemed as though Slytherin either was still groggy from sleep or had a full stomach from breakfast. Their communication obviously didn't go as planned as the brooms merely hovered or zoomed around in a sense of incoordination. At least that's what she figured from the groans behind her coming from the Slytherin stands. Before she could put anymore thought into it, cheers from the other side of the field erupted, it seemed Howard was doing what he was good at, scoring. Granted even with a Keeper doing their job, he usually had a trick up his sleeve. Cupping her hands to her mouth she whooped in excitement. Round two would surely be more interesting, it seemed the points being scored had shaken them from their daze. Clenching the broom handle beneath her hands again, she'd wait. No players were out quite yet, but Slytherin was known to be vengeful. The thought made her shiver as she zoned out again, listening to the roaring noise and whooshing of brooms escape into the air.

The moment the whistle was blown to begin the game, Ethen's eyes began their eternal search. Like a bobblehead, Ethen's head swayed and tilted in every conceivable direction at the start of his quest. He knew that the sooner he completed his search, the fewer chances they would have to put a bludger into his chest. As a boy who had been hit with a fair share of bludgers, he did hope to avoid that familiar sensation

As he searched, Ethen was able to locate absolutely nothing. As usual, the snitch was making things difficult. But that didn't mean Ethen was discouraged. No, he still had a song to sing to keep his team in the battle and to bother any Slytherins around him. "Big bad flying Badgers soaring through the skies! Ohhhh the little snakes too busy eating pies... One score two score, Badgers in the lead! Beware our keeper and her terrifying speed. Oh, the big bad flying Badgers! Streaks of yellow in the air and our poor snakes weren't ready for the scare! Ooowah!! Ooo ooo ooowah!" Ethen continued screaming while making a vague attempt to have his song rhyme while he used part of his broomstick as a drum.

First of all knew that he really should not have expected for his fellow teammates to keep their large mouth shut. When Avery spoke up, Percival would look slightly in his direction with a distasteful look. Is love life was anything but Avery's business. The boy had no reason to know a single thing about him, and he certainly would not provide it without some compensation. Despite his unwillingness to join the conversation that the other boy had started, he could not help but smirk at listening to Jack's perceived trouble when trying to ask someone out. Percival would hold back a snicker though his face would clearly show his amusement at the other boy's misfortune. As for himself, he could not say that he had ever struggled before. Though whether or not that was because of his personality or just his good looks that saved the day. Percival would glance towards Jack as he attempted to switch the conversation towards him. The boy would scoff before smirking openly at the red-haired boy.

"I think you and I both know I've never had a problem."

he said in a haughty manner.

1. In the role of Beater, if you hit an opponent with a bludger the bludger will then ricochet off that user and target a second opponent of choice (must be declared, if not declared the target will be random and can be an ally but not yourself).

2. In the role of Beater, if an ALLY dodges a bludger during the round, there is a 20% chance that you catch that bludger with your bat and you send it at a RANDOM enemy target.

At Avery’s exclamation, Jack reddened and looked away, feeling bashful. It didn’t help when the younger boy regarded him, complimenting his features as he appraised him and declaring that the person must have been an ‘unappreciative prat’. Little did Avery realize that ‘unappreciative prat’ was sitting right between them.

Fortunately for Jack, said prat didn’t seem to realize it either. Flash barely seemed to be paying attention to what they were saying, his focus almost entirely on the game. Jack supposed he couldn’t blame him. That was what they were there for, after all. Not to mention things seemed to have started off really badly for the Slytherin Cloud Cobras by the sounds of it. For Jack, though, that was all the more reason to focus on the conversation at hand rather than the game. It wasn’t as though they could do anything for the players on the field just then anyway.

"Hehehe…thanks, Chen. Maybe it was just me, though - something I didn’t do right or didn’t understand." the Welsh boy said, meaning his words as he beamed at the second year. "Yeah…I think I still like them. I doubt they like me in the same way back, though. But who knows? Maybe one day I’ll be able to get over them." He shrugged.

When he glanced over at Percival, to his surprise, Jack found his peer to be nearly laughing. Why? Because of what he’d shared about having tried to ask someone out? The redhead didn’t seem to mind, though; in fact, he smirked right back. "Never?" he repeated with a sly smile. "Is that why you feel you have to practice in front of mirrors to ask people out? Like that time we caught you trying to rehearse how you were going to ask Winters? She was still Seilun back then, though, I think." Laughing, he shook his head. "That was certainly something…"

Shifting his attention back to the youngest of the benched players, Jack asked, "And you, Chen? Any luck?"

- In the role of Keeper when you attempt to block your goal, if your opponent somehow has advantage on attempting to score a goal, that is negated (they only have their normal single roll against you).
- In the role of Keeper, if the Keeper effectively blocks an attempt to score rather than obtain possession of the quaffle they can kick the quaffle at the user who attempted to score. This must be declared at the time actions are submitted. This would have damage like a bludger using an accuracy roll to hit and the user's strength score to determine the amount of damage done. If the quaffle hits or misses the target, a quafflegrab the next round would be necessary to determine which team has possession of the quaffle again.
