Take a deep breath. Bloom thought as she realized that the other team was slowly making their way around theirs. Either they had the upper hand in circling around them, or they did being in close proximity together. Bloom was unsure of how chess really worked and just focused on whatever commands were made from Howard. It wasn't until Howard had screamed the words that Bloom knew what she had to do. And this time, she hoped not to miss.

He gave the order to attack. She did not want to hurt the opponents but she also knew she had to listen. Perhaps luck was on her side, perhaps luck was the reason she missed the kid. Or maybe she was just not very accurate with her spellcasting. Who knew! Either way, her hesitation cost her team an attack and might have spared theirs from a hit.

Serena gritted her teeth slightly, clenching her fists in frustration. She was not sure who she frustrated at. The world? Or just herself? Now was probably not the time to consider that though.

She readied her book, posed for action. Now was the time to end this. One way or another. Win or lose.

For Rodion, this was a stage of embarrassment after one another. He realized that the odds of him being able to turn the game around were slim, but he was determined to try his best and not give up. Yet, as the match carried on, his courage slowly started to dwindle. He was being out-maneuvered at every turn, and it seemed like the end was near. But the game was not over yet. Not yet.

Kamila was getting a bit worried about Koldovstoretz. There were only three members on her team left and most of the Hogwarts team was still alive. Kamila had never believed in miracles, luck, or fortune, but she almost felt like Koldovstoretz would need a miracle to win this chess game.

Mentioning Rodion, Howard

Pericles looked like an inverted priest: scepter poised as a weapon, black hem sweeping the battleground, dark magics swirling from each step of his heavy boots. He came face to face with Rodion in a state of grim resolve, intentions malevolent, but with an underlying respect for the foreign Champion. They were just a couple of kids playing a game much bigger than it looked. He evaded the other's spell and regained his stance with a narrowed glare. On Howard's cue, his scepter drew back again.

"Hogwarts, attack!" was the command that came from Howard, and Dee huffed, a little frustrated. She wished she could attack. Instead she was stuck here twiddling her thumbs with no ranged attacks and unable to move more than one square at a time. Could the others please pick up the pace so they could wrap this up?

At least Koldovstoretz had come up with something new, and were now spread out all over the board, although Dee couldn't quite see the point in it. Well, there would be no one to defend Rodion now, she supposed. Might speed up his downfall.

Too safe indeed. Opeila stood in a safe little corner that she had still appreciated a lot not too long ago, but now it began to bug her just a little. A moment to catch her breath had been nice, but now she was ready and eager to get back into action. She didn't like feeling this useless.

Alan would attempt to attack this turn, though he was quick to notice that while he was quite evasive that hitting someone was not his strength and so he missed. But that wasn't news to him as he was well aware of this due to duelling. But he was also well aware that he was quite stubborn and didn't like to give up.

Well this would be a humiliating blow... at least Maksim lasted this long, though he wasn't surprised at all, would take more than these brits could throw to get him out as easily as his fellow 'teammates'... if one could even refer to those failure of competitors as such. He was going to hold firm, show that he was far more of a threat, that he could hold his own.

Rodion (@Aurora Ranvier) was seemingly unkillable. In spite of devastating losses he was still standing. He did not have anywhere to run, anyone to hide behind or anyone to defend him. This might be his final stand but he was not a coward. He would go down fighting.

It was an exercise in futility as the queen and knight avoided the King's final and desperate attack.

@Dealla Prince was bolstering the violent potential of her allies. There was little else to do at this very moment unless she wanted to take an audacious risk that might cost the girl's health and pride in front of thousands of spectators. So she did nothing. She just needed to bide her time and victory would come to her.

Rooks

Rooks were rare at this point, chariot driven defenders Percival and Oksana were both unconscious. Maksim Levin (@Monica Evans) was waning in strength. Perhaps it was her exhaustion that left her standing there in these final moments (late post, was unfortunately unable to use her action). Maksim had given enough of himself already on this day and could give no more.

Maksim uses Toss Aside on Rodion.

@Howard White, the Hogwarts champion was standing on the backlines as the rest of his team stood on the forefront. Their line of defense was still intact and from the relative safety of the backlines he would watch the scenario play out. He was going to miss out on the excitement but savor the glory if they took home the win.

Shame he had to miss out on all of the fun.

Bishop

Invocation: Capable of blasting a target at a distance. This can move through allied (but not enemy) spaces on a diagonal. Arcane Power x 25.

Benediction: Using their Stamina they are able to bestow healing upon an allied target. Stamina x 20. The target must be adjacent and on a diagonal.

@Alan Vanes was still standing, it would take a lot to take the teen down. The practiced duellist was well-prepared for this fight it would seem. He would identify a target now that Opeila is out of danger, Maksim the steadfast defender of Koldovstoretz. They were difficult and durable but the metamorphmagus held one heck of a punch.

Alan cast Invocation on Maksim.

Yet Alan was slippery, not accurate. As exhausted as Maksim was, the boy would not bring the teen down with this attack of opportunity. Basking in Dee's kingly aura, he could take solace in the fact that they still had the advantage of numbers.

@Serena Towers was still in the fight. Astonishing really, nobody saw her as much of a fighter yet she was holding her own. Opeila was within an arm's length, even an arm as short as Serena's.

Serena casts Benediction at Opeila

She would reach out and grant Opeila more healing. From being nearly floored to vital once more, the Seer had experienced the near full spectrum of health through the course of this match.

Kamila Yavlinsky (@Marina Oriel) was not in range to perform any act of extraordinary cruelty or fierce desperation. She had gotten herself to a place that was perhaps a bit 'too safe.'

Knight

Eagle Eye: Capable of targeting someone either on the diagonal or in a straight line up to 3 squares. Cannot target through enemy or allied squares. 50 x Stamina.

Slayer: The Knight attacks a target adjacent to themselves. Strength x 50, plus 10% of the total damage done for three rounds (considered bleeding). This cannot critically hit.

@Bloom Silverton made no action. The fallen at her feet.

@Opeila Winters also made no action. The game at a literal standstill it would seem! she would be healed by Serena all the same, this being a 'long game'.

Queen

Rebuke: An aura effect based on the queen's Arcane Power. 10 x Arcane Power damage done to all adjacent enemy (does not effect allies) pieces. This lasts for 3 rounds as a passive effect, meaning it costs an action to initiate and then this effect endures for the next 3 rounds, so if it was cast on round one, it would turn OFF at the end of round 4. You can cast other actions while Rebuke is in effect.

Mistress' (or Master's) Wrath: A ranged attack that can go in any direction the Queen can move. It cannot move through allied/enemy squares. A blast of arcane energy can be felt across the board. Arcane Power x 50. However, this attack is done at disadvantage and can only target 1 target.

Queen @Pericles Dralt, was probably going to end this for another Koldovstoretz student. His plan was to take down Rodion with Mistress Wrath. This match hinging on if the boy could land the blow on the wily youth.

Pericles would land that brutal blow on the champion, hitting him squarely. She would take a full hit and the crowd would expect her to crumble. Kamila would not kneel, she would not fall. the crowd would go wild, but the room would spin for the girl. It hurt, she really felt that.

A terrible darkness would start to roll off the Ravenclaw youth as he made it dangerous for the opposition to cluster together. He would make his move and if he encroached upon their safe space, there was a real chance that this war would be won by attrition alone.
