A bittersweet moment. That's what she would call this. Adya was both smiling and on the verge of crying concurrently. How come her mom not once shouted at her all these days when she returned for holiday? Ah! How come she misses being shouted at?

Her whole family arrived to send her off. Even her aunts. Not surprised! Her dad held her tight against his side, looking ahead at the wall. Adya leaned her head on him. Still looking ahead, "Everything's fine there, right? Nobody is messing with you or making it hard for you, no Emmy?" His voice was strained with emotion.

Chuckling at her worried dad "No such thing, Dad," the young girl freed herself from his hold. Then her mom pulled her into a long hug, which got her doubting for a bit whether she'll reach the train at the right time. Kissing her cheek, "Amma Momloves you, be careful baby, don't get involved in problems Adhi and-" her mom uttered with a smile.

"- And don't ruin your clothes and shoes again. I don't know what the- Heaven knows what's happening to them. Seriously! You don't know their worth-" her sister cut her in. "Not today Anvi" everyone Chorused at her sister. Rolling her eyes with a smile "I love you too Anvi" Adya hugged both her sisters.

Bidding everyone goodbye, the Slytherin ran into the wall. Honestly, it gives her heebie-jeebies every time she has to do that. Pushing past the crowds, Adya reached for the empty compartment with her backpack. Her eyes welled up with tears. Nobody has to know it. With the end of her sleeve, the girl wiped off the teardrop that escaped her eyelid.

Sadly, the young boys parents couldn’t stay. After dropping him off like planned, his father had to go take an emergency call at work. And his mum? She was just on lunch break. It sucked, but it was normal at this point. At least they got to spend some time together during the break, even if they weren’t here to see him off. Oh, then there was his brother. Of course, he would do the same in a heartbeat, but it still kinda hurt that he didn’t even take the car ride to the train station with them. Whatever, he’ll just write a strongly worded letter when he gets back to school.

“Ay dios mío, hay incluso más gente aquí que al comienzo del año escolar. Está lleno.” He muttered under his breath in his first-language, shuffling through the families saying goodbye to their children again. Some parents were even full on sobbing. Jay chuckled at the sight. The kids must feel so embarrassed. Now he didn’t feel so bad that his parents weren’t here, because then he would have to endure something like that. “Pobres chicos. Me siento afortunado ahora.” Giving a polite smile to some passersby’s, he finally gets on the train.

Large stuff has already been taken, but he still has his cat and a backpack full of necessities. Well, more like fidget toys and stuff for his cat. Plus a blanket. The train ride is a really long ride, and he’d probably slept somewhere close to three hours the night before. So on that thought, he looks around for a compartment to sit in. Most were filled with friend groups chatting it up quite loudly, so that was an automatic no for him. Jay decided to go into one with only a small girl sat, sitting down on the other side.

“Wait uh.. do you mind if I sit here? You seemed a tad bit lonely over here, lad.” Jay realized after he sat down that he just kinda walked in like he owned the place, and that was rude to most people. From what he remembered, anyways. In any case, the train was about to leave, so it wasn’t like he really could go anywhere else, but it was the thought that counted. He hoped, anyways.

Adya can be emotionally driven some- most of the time, but tears being one ruled out habit. Along with that, It's not frequent to notice her silent tears. The young girl didn't cry the very first time. What's so different now?! The compartment door dragged open suddenly. Which got her to jerk up a bit as she wiped her tears out.

Clearing her throat, "I don't mind-" she started despite the fact that the boy took a seat already. The squeaky effect in her voice remained as the result of the overwhelmed emotion from a few seconds ago. Adya isn't a person who would mind his behaviour, additionally they both share this particular habit.

Formalities of unhealthy amounts for unnecessary things at frequent times tires her brain. It's highly unwanted to her. Chuckling with the sudden realisation, "Do I look like a lad to you, sweetie pie?" She leaned her head back, with her eyes on the boy. It is evidently unbelievable to have someone perceive her as a guy.

Her demeanor returned to its normal self. "Had a fun holiday?-" She flicked her eyebrows at the brown haired boy. Squinting her eyes a little as her thoughts processed, "I know you- I mean I remember you from classes, If I am guessing right, you're a Gryffindor- right?" Adya glanced between the boy and the window.

“Well- Well uh- No, but it’s kinda my default.” Jay managed to stutter out, nervously glancing around. He knew she was a girl, or at least looked like one, but lass sounded weird. Something about the way it was said gave him the impression of helpless princess, and she was anything but that. Whatever, they blow past that quick. She asked a question, but it was clear she wasn’t really interested in the answer that he was going to give. But Jay tried to talk anyways, maybe to redeem himself? Show that he wasn’t a shy little boy?

“My holidays were nice. Me and my parents went to-“ Is all he got to before he was cut off by the girl. Damn, okay. Guess he wasn’t going to say how his holidays were. That’s okay. He didn’t even want to say anything anyways. He would probably end up lying and forgetting about the lie later, ending up in situations he’d much rather not to be in. Upon hearing the girl say that she knew him somehow, his hands start fidgeting. He wasn’t a particularly quiet student in classes. The young boy was using talking or calling out answers, it was a surprise that he didn’t get detention yet.

It looked like she saw him around, anyways. She guessed his house correctly, but he supposed it was quite obvious and easy to guess. “Yeppers, I’m a Gryffindor. I don’t really remember seeing you around though.” Not that he really cared about houses. He’s met people from all over, and they were all special. And he also met one girl he just loathed. Ugh, the little brat. Jay kept his grin high and mighty though, not showing his thoughts about the Gryffindor girl. “Lemme guess. I haven’t ever seen ya in my common room, so you’re not a Gryffindor. You don’t seem the academic type, either. Nor are you very prideful and outspoken. I’d say you’re a Slytherin!”

He puts his legs up, arms wrapped around them like he was becoming a rolly-poly. For a tall guy, he could actually scrunch up really well. Intertwining his fingers, he looks at the girl expecting a correct or incorrect response. “So, are you a Slytherin?”

A chuckle would have escaped through her lips if she hadn't bit it back, "It's alright!-". Her shoulder shrugged a bit as a conveyance of the fact that it's fine with her. "I'll adjust with your default, Sweetie pie" as her eyes moved to have a glance through the window with the littlest of smile playing on her lips. Lad is not the worst way to be referred to despite that she's a girl. At least he agreed she's a girl.

When the quick glimpse of memory of his face played in her head, Adya asked out loud to clear her doubt which ended up with him halting his sentence, unfinished. But she'll come to it later. The brown haired boy is indeed a Gryffindor. Her brain works better than she believed. The corner of her lips twisted a bit with pride in her eyes. Within a second from that, her expression shifted as she pouted, "Am I too small to spot?" Her voice was laced with hurt, making sure he wouldn't identify the falsity of it.

Whoa! He got it right! Her eyes widened at his explanation. Adya lifted her palms up, "You have potential to be the substitute for the sorting hat-" she began. Her finger snapped and pointed at him which would supposedly convey you're right but dropped down lazily with her next words. Scrunching her face, "-But you're wrong here, I am actually an eagle, not a snake" she shook her head. Adya leaned towards the boy to pay his shoulder gently, "It's okay sweetie, good try! But looks can be deceptive" she plastered the softest of smiles on her face.

The grin on his face widened as he gave a short chuckle. An eagle? No way was she actually serious with that. But maybe she was. A good snake would know that they couldn’t really look like an eagle. Some do, of course, but the entire energy they give off would betray that lie. “Cunning. And judging by your little musical play over here, ambition is something that is strong in you. But if course, whatever you say Eagle.” He didn’t believe that she was a Ravenclaw at all. Her mannerisms and words sounded nothing like one. Along with the carefully constructed tone of voice and facial expressions.

To be honest, being the sorting hat was basically what he was back in his primary school. New kids would get ‘sorted’ to a group, who he thinks they would get along with and stuff. Jay practically studied people and how they act. He knew he was an obvious candidate for Gryffindor, but even he could study something without fail. That didn’t mean he was better suited for Ravenclaw. Lord, he would actually hate it if he was in Ravenclaw. “So, amiga, how was your experience during this break?” There was a pause. Did they even say each others names?

“Oh yeah, I’m Jay. Jay Divus. What’s your name?” Perfect, just say your full name. No one will think anything of it.(/sarc) Funnily enough, when someone gives him their full name he thinks it’s a name he should know or something. He doesn’t know pureblood names, so he might look dumb.

The brown haired boy was annoyingly brilliant! Adya was astounded by his points. Nevertheless his stubbornness irked her. Adya raised an eyebrow at his mock laugh. With what he said, Adya had to hold back from admitting the truth. What's so unbelievable about being a Ravenclaw? Although she isn't one and he was totally right, it wasn't written on her face. Was it? Oh well! At least he didn't say 'You look too dumb to be a Ravenclaw'. At the end of the journey, he will fall for it. Uhm- she hopes he will.

Faking a sigh, "Whatever soon to be sorting hat! You will realise how delusional you are when you spot the blue in my robes" she pointed her finger at him, as her eyes scrunched a little. Her dramatic gestures played a part in betraying her lies. Which she had no control over. Adya ran her fingers through her hair to clear out the knots in it as her head tilted in thoughts to form words about her experience. "Weird... Surprising... Calm-" Adya chuckled before her words resumed. Her eyes widened at him as she rested her chin on her propped up elbow "- Amma- mom didn't raise her voice at me at all- I challenged myself if I could change that but no, she was so patient surprisingly-" as her tone shifted to genuine excitement.

Leaning back, Adya took a long breath as her eyes gazed out through the window, "- Too sweet for me to take though" she crossed her arms, toying with her sleeves end. "How was yours? Had fun, sweetie?" As she turned her gaze back to him. "A- Adelaide Oakes, nice to meet you Jay" she smiled a little as she stretched her hand out for a handshake. Ha! Her name definitely wasn't written on her face. A personal satisfaction on at least she would score one out of two.

His eyes slightly narrowed, and his grin became even wider. He was completely sure he was right. Delusion was for that transphobic teacher back at his muggle school. Talking about how his friend was just going for attention and doesn't respect the name her parents gave her. Adults were truly idiots. Didn't they have a whole meeting about exploring yourself? Isn't your gender part of yourself? The kids were 'too young' to be thinking about who they wanted to be known as, but old enough to 'know better'. They were only kids. But, getting off that depressing thought. At least he doesn't go there anymore.

"I seriously don't wanna be the Sorting Hat. It seems like a really stressful job. Hundreds of kids to sort? No thanks. Plus, some Gryffindor Girl was talking to me about breaking the hat at the Sorting Ceremony, soo..." He trailed off, nothing finding anything else to say on the subject of Sorting Hat. He didn't honestly care about it. Leaning back and straightening his posture, his grin fades away to just a light smile. It's nice to listen to her voice. He sat up again at the question, sighing. Now he had to think.

"Well. It was kinda fun. My parents and I went to this ice skating rink. And my older brother decided to do this whole scavenger hunt for the presents on Christmas. All in all, really fun." Adelaide? How in the world was he supposed to say that with his terrible speech problems. Well, it was mild, but he thought it was really bad. Jay shook her hand, a firm and warm hand reaching out then putting his hands in his pockets. "Ad.. A-de-aid? A-del-laid? Ad-" He stopped. He was totally making a fool out of himself because he couldn't say a simple name.

Nicknames were his only choice now. "Would you be okay with me callin you Adya? For the life of me, I can't seem to say ya's name."

Adya rolled her eyes at the boy's grin which displayed no waver in his opinion. Sighing heavily, "Do I look too dumb to be a Ravenclaw?" Her head hung down in discontent. After these many tries, it was too frustrating to have someone not buy her words. She waved her hand in dismissal, "Believe it or not, I am a Ravenclaw and your opinion is not going to change the damn fact" when those pathetic words left her lips.

At this point, Adya was drowning in self pity. Why is this boy so tough to convince? Although the young girl wasn't done with that. "-Why exactly do you feel that I don't belong in my own house?"

"Wait- what? The sorting hat can break?" Adya tilted her head with her eyes squinted slightly. Isn't it a sort of magic? It even talked to her technically. Considering how many students are unsatisfied with the house they're sorted into, it's still alive. Doesn't it mean it cannot be destroyed? "Yes also, you'd make a rudest sorting hat. I prefer the original" her lips curled.

Even the minute smile on her lips was abruptly taken away as Jay uttered her own goddamn name. Her lips glued, and her eyes widened at him. No way in hell he could do that! Her name isn't so common and definitely not her. Is he psychic or something? Or is it a prank of some sort? How long has he been following her? Is this boy choosing this particular compartment intentional and not a coincidence? Or is this someone she knows, under disguise?

Adya stared at him for quite a while not blinking as though she was possessed by some spirit. Should she run away? " How did you do that?" Adya finally worded out. Faking a chuckle, "You can't scare me with this lame trick, come on, say who are you."

"No, 'ot at all! It's jus' that Ravens and Snakes have sim'lar energies. My t'oughts are only just that. Thoughts, man. It really doesn't ma'er to me if you're a Ravenclaw or Slytherin. As long as you're a good person. I 'onestly would rather ta be in Slytherin. Gryffindor is 'ay too much for my small brain to unders'and." He chuckled, mostly at himself. He knew he wasn't all that academically smart, or socially for that matter. All this wizarding hurt his brain in more ways than one. At least they were learning stuff that actually mattered! No brain mush this year, no sirree bob.

And the sudden change of tone, Jay tilted his head ever so slightly in a confused expression. He sat normally now, straighening his back and looking at the girl in front of him. Did he say something wrong? Was he slurring his words without realizing it? He hesitated for a second before speaking. ".. do what? Didn't I say me name? I'm Divus. Jay Divus." He cocked an eyebrow slightly up as he looked at the girl he had sat across. He felt the slight vibrations of the train as it chugged across the tracks.

Jay didn't know what to do. Had he offended her? He would gladly change compartments if it meant for her to feel more comfortable. Even if the rest of the compartments were filled, he didnt mind just sitting in the hallway. Yknow, now that he thought about it, it would actually be fun to lay on the ground and just zone out. He didn't have the energy to put up his loudmouth persona. Jay was still worried Adya, so he would just wait until her aura changed to a more aggressive one.
