Continuation of A Breath of Fresh Air
It was a lovely day outside, too unfortunate Reuben had a myriad of charms work to brush up on. He scoured the shelves for as many charms books he could carry, hoping to find one that could break the alleged curse that loomed over him. He loathed charms. Or so he thought out of sheer bitterness. In reality, he enjoyed it greatly― just not the parts that he struggled at, which was most of it.

Charms was his weakest field of magic. "Why do I even bother...?"― he sighed to himself as he began walking back towards his table. He glanced around to observe his surroundings; the library was still new to him and he found it difficult to navigate. He slowly came to a halt. Which way was my table again? he pondered. He stood around, trying to get his bearings for what felt like an eternity. "I'm a bloody eejit..." he whispered to himself, after realising he set off in the wrong direction.

With a bashful grin on his face, he swung around with no regard for the pile of books he was balancing, they wobbled around as he turned; threatening to fling in every direction. Fortunately, he was able to keep it steady, but it was far too close for comfort. He set the books on the table and took a moment to himself. Where do I even begin? he contemplated with a perturbed look on his face.

After a seemingly uneventful potions lesson, Marek entered the library. He wanted to familiarise himself with some of the areas and facilities that Hogwarts has offered its students, mostly because he was still a bit new. Unfortunately for him, he was not just here to mope around, as he was set some Transfiguration homework to do before the next time he was to see his teacher. It was not anything fancy to be frank, because it was mostly note taking and casting a few simple spells on small objects, but Marek being very new to magic did create quite the barrier. He was already warned of what could potentially happen if he did not perform certain spells correctly, which was enough to agitate him but also irritate him.
"Surely they won't punish me for failing something I don't understand, right?"
That thought lingered for a moment in Marek's stressed brain. Quietly, Marek walked over to one of the shelves that was stocked with what looked like a dozen books on transfiguration. As he started to second-guess if it would be best to put off his studies for another time, after pulling out one of the books that seemed to date to a very long time ago (and seems to have been out of his year), he noticed a familiar face through the gap created from the empty space where the book was originally in. After much closer inspection, Marek was certain that was Reuben sitting at the table with an unsettled look on his face, looking at the pile of books he could only assume Reuben himself placed on there.

"He looks kinda stressed doesn't he? Tiny bit unusual for his sort!" Marek thought.
Marek wanted to giggle a little, not out of maliciousness, but because he found it humorous. He has always thought that people needed to relax a little, because work will end up consuming them and preventing them from having fun if they take it so seriously to such an extent. Sadly, he knew that he still needed to take responsibility, so instead of greeting the lad he decided to slowly walk off towards a separate table. It was not like he didn't like him, but people need their space, and Marek knows that all too well.

Before leaving the shelf completely, he decided to carefully put the ancient book back to its spot and proceeded to make his way towards one of the nearby tables, while reading over the homework that was assigned so he knew what to look at next. Would he understand it? Probably not. But would he still try? He had to.

Reuben felt a sinking feeling as he stared at the Charms textbook, knowing that learning it would be no easy feat. He had already spent countless hours studying without making much progress, and each session seemed to bring more frustration than understanding. His mind was overloaded with complex rules and difficult words, which made things even worse. He looked through it over and over again to no apparent avail. Reuben was feeling overwhelmed with his Charms textbook. Even when he thought he understood something in writing, he wasn't sure if he would be able to actually cast a charm. After all this frustration, Reuben finally decided to take a break - he deserved it.

He looked up to glance around the library. To his surprise he spotted Marek a few tables over; Reuben was so engulfed by his work he didn't even notice him come into the library. He didn't expect to see Marek here, he didn't strike Reuben as the type to go to the library. Then again, from the outside, not many would guess how much Reuben adored books and the library. Should I go over to say hi...? - he pondered while recollecting their earlier meeting. I probably didn't give a good first impression did I? He found it a little amusing. He knew he could come across as a little too much at times but it didn't bother him in the slightest. He wasn't going to change and he knew that well.

With that, he stood up and made his way over to Marek's table, leaving his stuff behind. Reuben approached slowly; he wasn't keen on a repeat of the last time he did this. "Hi, can I sit with you?" - he asked with a faint but endearing smile.

Marek, who was still looking over his slightly crumpled sheet that had his homework inscribed on it, gently lifted his head to see Reuben standing beside his table. His eyes widened a little, as it wasn't that long ago since he left the shelves to give this guy some space.
"Ale jaja..."

he said to himself.

Marek raised his eyebrow and motioned with his hand to one of the seats instead of giving a verbal reply, mostly because he believes that if someone wants to sit with you or chat, they shouldn't feel like they have to ask. Then again, considering the fact their first impression ended with a bruise on the back of his head, he could understand the fact that Reuben was perhaps trying to be more careful, and that thought did bring a smirk to Marek's face.
"Fancy seeing you here. Did not see you for the brainy type."
Marek said, chuckling a little afterwards.
This little interaction already put his mind off of his current stresses, as if his mind was waiting for something like this to happen, so he could put the difficulties he is facing in the wizarding world to the side. He couldn't help but wonder about what will this interaction bring today. After all, this is so far the only person he has spoken to properly.

Reuben raised an eyebrow with a sarky look on his face "I'm quite 'brainy' I'll have you know" - he smirked teasingly and sat at the table beside Marek. Reuben glanced at the crumpled sheet in front of Marek; recognising the pages. He smiled cheerfully and looked up at Marek; "Transfiguration eh? How're you finding it?" - he chattered.

Reuben was happy that he could leave his Charms work behind for a moment. He's been looking forward to socialising with someone and he was thrilled it was the mysterious Hufflepuff boy he met earlier. Charms can wait - he convinced himself.

Reuben was quite intrigued by the boy. He noticed Marek spoke a language he never heard before, although he didn't intend to pry at the moment, much like how he noticed Marek irritably clutching his wand earlier; but decided to ignore it for now. Maybe I'll ask him when we're a little closer - he thought. He didn't want to be too pushy, even if intruding was something he'd often do unknowingly.

He was curious, however. Marek seemed pensive the first time they talked and Reuben wondered why; the young Hufflepuff seemed like he didn't want to be at Hogwarts. But that couldn't be it... Reuben thought, Who wouldn't want to learn magic? Despite his part muggle heritage, it was all he knew and he couldn't imagine life without it.

Marek chuckled a little more at Reuben's response to his innocent tease, before panning his attention to his homework sheet that was pointed out by him.
"Erm, could be worse, haha. I don't quite get it" - he replied.
Suddenly, Marek picked up the sheet of paper and proceeded to pull out his hardest thinking face, stroking the stubble of his chin inquisitively before shrugging in complete exaggeration, in order to tell Reuben "See? No idea at all" in his own, humorous way. Afterwards, Marek placed the sheet down in front of Reuben so he could witness just what Marek is putting up with.

"Here, since you're in the library I think it is safe to assume you wouldn't mind doing some 'extended reading'"- Marek said in jest, clearly trying to mock a teacher of some sort- it would have been more convincing if it was not for his heavy Slavic accent.
After he did that, he decided to rummage through his bag a little. He hoped that he had some spare paper left over so that he could occupy himself, since he enjoyed doodling whenever he lacked certainty on some matters. It was an excellent way to put his mind off things, especially because drawing and designing is one of Marek's many passions. He hopes that once he is done with all of this, he will be able to do what he loves. Run around on the Football field, put various pieces of scrap together, things that did not need to involve magic.

Reuben giggled at Marek's impression. No amount of Transfiguration work would qualify as 'extended reading' in his eyes. He took a look at Marek's sheet and skimmed through it sporting a smile on his face. "I can help you with this if you'd like" - Reuben gleamed with anticipation. It would be a nice change of pace from his tedious Charms work, he thought.

Reuben glanced back to his table. Without a word, he swiftly stood up and made his way back. He gathered his books in a pile and pulled his bag up onto the chair. As he ran a mental checklist he noticed his wand missing from his robe's pocket. A look of confusion and dismay crept onto his face. "Bloody grand" he murmured to himself. Well done Reuben. he thought, rummaging through his bag in a haste.

He looked around once more as he spotted his wand perched up against the wall concealed by a stack of books he earlier collected from the shelves. Right... that's where it is. He grabbed the wand and placed it on top of the pile of books he organised moments ago, flinging his backpack over his shoulder. Reuben grabbed the pile of books and tootled back to Marek, setting his books on the table beside him.

Reuben took his robe off and draped it on the back of his chair before taking a seat. He turned to face Marek, shooting him a bright and affectionate grin.

"Oh shit."

Marek exclaimed in a worried tone. Despite not knowing the contents of the books, seeing Reuben come back so prepared made Marek dread the thought of what could possibly happen if he were to agree to Reuben's offer. Then again, what choice did he have? He does not know anything whatsoever about...Transfiguration. Besides, Reuben's grin told Marek he knew his stuff and he clearly was more than happy to aid him.
"Uhm, sure. You can help me" he said, nodding his head a little.

After a little bit of thinking (which he doesn't do very much of), Marek decided to also take out his wand and placed it on the table. It had a small scar on the base of the wand from the time he dropped it in the courtyard, but he was certain it would not affect its performance whatsoever. It worked fine in potions after all.
He turned to Reuben expectantly, ready to listen to what he has to say about the Transfiguration tasks. He was determined to get this right, because he knew that on his own, he was useless. Even if he had the world's simplest Transfiguration book intended for First Years, there would be no way he would get a grasp on this part of his new life, which is why Reuben's help is much appreciated, even if his appreciation isn't exactly shown.

Reuben smirked at Marek's exclamation despite not knowing its meaning; though he could guess. "These aren't for you silly" - he snickered as he tilted one of the books clearly revealing them to be Charms textbooks. "I'm not planning on patronising you," he remarked playfully. Besides I'm not that prepared to help, so it is. 1" Reuben chuckled at Marek's reaction; his concerned look greatly amused him.

He leaned over to Marek to take another peek at the sheet and considered the tasks for a moment. This is wee buns 2 he thought, as he has expected. However, he was unsure whether to tell Marek the answers outright or just give him some guidance. He knew some people would be offended to be given the answers, like himself, but also that some would take the easy way out if it was an option.

Reuben glanced down at the sheet once more as he noticed Marek's wand, and what appeared to be a small but noticeable scratch on the base. He still pondered about Marek's treatment of his wand earlier and his curiosity was slowly getting the better of him. It was like an internal struggle in his mind; desperately wanting to pry but not knowing if it would be taken well.

Marek gave out a loud sigh of relief, before letting out a smaller snicker. He looked around to make sure no one was staring at them, because as much as he hated to admit it, it was a quiet study space and too much attention could get them kicked out.
"Since you aren't prepared, I assume you're just gonna wing it? I like that" Marek said with a smile.

He panned his eyes towards the charms books Reuben brought, now that the cat is out of the bag, and remembered he had a charms book of his own that he left in the dorm. It was a compulsory purchase, and a First Year staple, but he did find charms interesting. He wasn't good at it or anything, though it didn't stop him from wanting to learn more about the world of magic, even when it was not his expertise.
"By the way, even though I am not really good at studying, I don't want you to give me the answers right away. I am not an experienced wizard, and I have never done stuff like this before, so I do want to make the most of my learning here"
Marek said, his accent sounding a little thick. It is almost as if it thickens when he is being genuine.

After saying this, he did notice Reuben looking at his wand in an inquisitive manner. Though Marek didn't really put much thought into it, he couldn't help but wonder: "Did he see my fit in the courtyard?"
