CL BROOM RACING - HUFFLEPUFF vs GRYFFINDOR - WINTER 2023

Serena meandered onto the grounds with a rather large tree in her hand, lugging it towards the start. Donning a warm winter hat, some woolly gloves and a scarf tucked into her uniform to try and stay warm in this colder weather without it interfering with her racing.

Despite the cold, her face had a bright smile on her face. Why? Because today would be a good day. It was the Hufflepuff Broom Racing team versus her favourite person (and his team, who she also quite liked). Tugging on her clothing, she made sure everything was tucked in neatly and would not come loose during the race.

Turning to the spectators, her gaze scanned the crowd for a moment or two trying to see if she could spot anyone. She had no idea why, it wasn't like they ever showed up but a part of her had hope. She turned her attention back to where she was walking, put her broom down near the start line and adjusted her shoelaces and wand holder to make sure everything was perfect. "Up!" She demanded with energy in her voice, before quickly mounting onto the broom and getting into position to start the race.

"Make sure you don't get knocked off, big guy," She teased towards @Hugh Lowe as soon as she saw him. In terms of civil, she was doing great!

This slender Scots Pine would make a fine Christmas Tree but this tree was modified with purpose. A metallic framed seat complete with windshield and stirrups has been added at the back, serving as the tree's counterweight. This sturdy, reliable tree that will definitely get the job done.

Speed: Top Speed is 6, however when you reach a speed of 6 this increases to a 10% chance that you will auto miss (with anything requiring an accuracy roll) and you will be auto-hit (with anything requiring a dodge roll).
Ability: Immune to broken broomshaft.
This broom is intended to carry multiple people. When someone uses the catch option to rescue a falling teammate, they can catch one additional teammate in a given round. This broom can carry up to four users. If the user has the ability Catch then a user can catch an indefinite number of teammates in a round, but for each person they catch after the first there is a stacking 20% auto-failure chance. Returning users to their broom is a free action for the owner of the blue bottle, but those being returned to their broom need to use their action getting to their broom. Only one person can be returned to their broom as a free action (for the owner) per round, they can use their action to return a second user however.

Another race. Sophie thought to herself. Hopefully this one wasn't as violent as the last one, unless Hufflepuff was the one killing since she did not need to get hit on the head with some more rocks. Hopefully, there were no pigeons since they were very disrespectful and very disgusting, and she was trying very hard to forget them, so no need to bring them back.

Snow turned to slush, and slush to grass. The change of the year signaled a change in the seasons. Winter fell dormant so that spring could take the reins. The sun was welcomed with both smile and disdain, as it struck down on its people with warm light and blinding gleam; its radiant form suspended at the highest point in the sky.

New year. New season. New race.

Racers from houses Gryffindor and Hufflepuff gathered on the track today; an interesting sight, given the odd mishmash of personalities strung eagerly across the starting line. This was not their first race together, and it would certainly not be their last.

At least, one would hope.

Given the apparent penchant for violence with both teams, there was always the chance that one could completely rid of the other. The chances of that happening, however, was an extremely small percentage- and although low, the numbers were still there.

Low didn't mean zero. Not by any means.

Naturally, the time waiting was taken to get a good look at the faces gathered around. All should have been (and were) very familiar. There were a few on the opposite team that Xailah knew better than others; such as Jack Warren and George Henry- both boys she recognized as fun spirits. Serena was always identifiable in passing; through shared classes and year. Though having only exchanged small snippets of chatter, Xailah thought Serena to be a nice girl. Simon was quite popular in his class, and among the student body; as both a prefect and a little Casanova.

And of course, there was little Starlee. Although only present to oversee the game, the snakelet was a welcome sight no matter the occasion. Xailah swore the girl was growing like a little weed- in both height and personality; she had certainly come far from her Frog Choir beginnings.

But among the familiar faces, there was one that stood out- one Xailah had not really considered before, until now. Hufflepuff had a new badger kit, it looked like.

Xailah had immediately taken notice of the new racer on the Hufflepuff team; making her wonder what happened to the last racer they had. The summer race hadn't been kind to the tiny first year badger, and the image of the girl thrashing around in a jig while bundimun acid ate away at her, still burned in Xailah's mind. Now that the lioness thought about it, she never saw the girl again after that race had concluded. Hm. A bit concerning, that.

Now wasn't the time to ponder the fate of Hufflepuff's last racer though. With a quiet nod to her own House racers, Xailah would set her sights and mind forward.

It wasn't spring yet, not with the cold flicks of snow resting in Della's hair, but she could feel something in the air. A small bit of warmth. She didn't mind the cold in most respects, but she hated flying in it—getting to high speeds at a high altitude made every breath feel restricted as she inhaled the icy air. So maybe today would feel a little better than their practices had; she hoped the scent of spring would give the team strength.

And they needed it. She had been a witness to Hufflepuff's strategy under their new captainage. She didn't expect them to act any different today. But this was Gryffindor they were up against, her team—and Della wasn't afraid, she was ecstatic for the challenge.

Another race, albeit one that the young lion could not bring himself to muster the same bloodthirsty enthusiasm for. He did loike brooms, and that had been all consuming for most of his second year, and a good portion of the start of his third. Yet the outlet for his aggression and anger could not scratch the itch in the way it used to. The fire had begun to rise again, and no matter what he did, he could not quell it.

Still, he'd at least thrown the fog off for long enough to put on a brave face. Of course, as far as Nicholas went, hiding his emotion was near-to-impossible. The dark look behind his eyes was as present as the dark bags that sat beneath them.

"Luck," He said simply, nodding to his teammates before taking to the sky. Maybe flying would clear his head some.

Marina breathed a sigh of relief when she arrived at the race. She had been late to her last race and ended up missing the first round.

It was Marina’s third broom race. Gryffindor would be racing against Hufflepuff. She was looking forward to seeing what would happen. Gryffindor hadn’t lost either of the races Marina had been in and she didn’t plan on losing this one either.

George was only half looking forward to facing the Gryffindors in another broom race. The last one had ended in defeat, but he had had a lot of time to practice since then... and a lot of things to build up angst about since beating the Slytherins. Employing violent, dishonest strategies against the sneks had been cathartic, to be sure, although he had some reservations about turning those strategies against the Gryffindor team. Not that he had any sort of special affection toward the Gryffindors, or anything. They were fine, but it wasn't like he cared about any of them in particular.

Ah, well. The looming threat of Valentines day, his many classes and extracurriculars, and the chaos of his social life were enough to compress George into a tightly wound spring that was just waiting to be set off at the starting line. Whether he won or lost, he would at least tire himself out enough to relax afterward. Maybe Puddifoots will be open for tea...
