Cursed Consequences
Mid October, 2022
Looking at her, no one would be surprised to learn that Dealla Prince had been in a coma just a week ago. She carried the marks of it still, although she had, of course, been physically completely healed before being released from the hospital wing. Even so, Dealla looked like she'd been drained of colour, lips pale and dark circles beneath her eyes. Exhaustion clung to her every step, although this time, at least, it was of natural causes. No hag ritual leeching the energy from her body, no unnaturally long phases of deep sleep. Quite the opposite, sleep was proving everything but restful, recurring nightmares causing her to wake up sweating after only shreds of time spent asleep.
The worst part was that it didn't feel like dreams, it felt like memories, of the time she'd spent unconscious. Visions she'd seen in the fog, that were now coming back to her, although they certainly didn't feel real, either. She didn't have a clue what to do about them, so she didn't do anything. Spent her nights awake, and her days dozing through her classes. It was bound to catch up to her sooner or later.
At least there were her friends to get her through the day, and Jack to lean on when needed, like she did right now. Little did she know he had his own problems to deal with, that she wasn't the only one haunted by consequences of her summer, although in different ways. It required effort to not slink into the great hall, shoulders hunched and head bent, but her pride wouldn't let her, so her back remained straight and her chin held high as she slipped into the seat next to her boyfriend. Completely ignoring whoever else might be around, Dee leaned up to kiss Jack's cheek in greeting, then let herself flop against his shoulder with all the grace of a fish on dry land. "I'm cold," she whined. "I will steal your body heat. You don't need it, do you?"

Cursed Consequences
Although there seemed to be zero physical repercussions from Jack's little hitchhiker, and most of the time, he had complete control over his cerebral highways. Yet there were the tiniest things that were consistently starting to change. For example, night upon night, Jack had woken up and found himself obsessively digging. What was even stranger was that he had found something every night. Treasures of the human skeleton structure were uncovered after hours of digging. Not to mention his unnatural attraction to more raw meat and his constant state of bad moods; it was like the boy was at his emotional lowest all the time.
Sitting in the great hall, Mr. Warren dug at his plate, which held a rather bloody piece of meat. If one had to guess, it could have been mooing only a couple of hours prior. With a fork in one hand and a knife in the other, the boy skewered his last piece of meat before shoving it down his gullet. The red liquid sat stagnant on his plate before it sloshed to one side as Jack pushed the dinnerware away.
The presence of his girlfriend was one of the only things that wouldn't set off his rather terse turn in nature. Not to mention that he didn't mind getting kisses from the girl. But, unfortunately, what had happened to Dee sent Jack into a spiral, and it was lucky that she recovered when she did because the Hufflepuff was relatively close to doing something genuinely irrational.
"Take all you need." He grinned, "I got more than enough. How're you feelin'?" As he spoke, the boy wrapped his arms around the prefect only to pull her closer.

Cursed Consequences
Dee sighed softly, adjusting her position slightly to better lean into Jack when he pulled her closer. He was warm, which was more than welcome. "Hm," was her noncommittal response to his question, because the truth was one she didn't want to admit, at least not in public. She was tired, she was scared. She was worried that the consequences of what Jack Burnett had done with her blood were not yet over. "I'm fine." There was no effort put into making the lie believable. "Always better with you, of course. How 'bout you?"
Her eyes trailed over the table in front of her. She should probably eat something, but didn't have much of an appetite lately. Dee's gaze fell on the plate in front of Jack, and she raised an eyebrow, half amused. "Had an appetite for raw meat today?" She'd judge harder if someone liked their steak well-done than rare, but she was never above some teasing when the opportunity arose.
Wrinkling her nose at her options, Dee finally settled on a bread roll, reaching for it and then starting to tear of small chunks of it to eat. She was tired of obsessing about herself and what had happened to her, had spent too much time doing just that. Better to focus on something else for the moment. "Tell me something interesting?" she requested. "Something that happened while I was... gone. Or like, anything." She really hadn't been paying attention to what had been happening at the school; hadn't attended the fall ball because she hadn't felt up to it. The only thing she was aware of was the upcoming Hexwizard trial, and the first stage of duelling. She was probably lucky to still be on either team.
