General The Slytherin Table 2018-2019

Evany sighed as the Sorting Hat announced “SLYTHERIN!”. She had hoped to be in Ravenclaw, but had sneaking suspicion that alas, it was not to be. She should have expected it, really. All her family had been in Slytherin. “Well, at least I got my second choice, and not muggleloving Griffyndor, or god forbid, Hufflepuff!” She thought to herself. Running a hand through her slightly messy hair, she suppressed a frown, and walked briskly over to the Slytherin table.

Taking her spot next to a group of other First Years (or so she assumed), she sat down. ‘You probably should introduce yourself.’ She thought. ‘Friends can be useful...’ Waiting for a gap in the conversation, especially not wanting to interject in the middle of the argument about whatever, she talked into the first available pause in the conversation. “Hello, I’m Evany, Evany Selakova. Halfblood, pureblood mother, muggleborn father, both dead. Born in Toronto, Canada, moved to England for my father’s work as a potions master before he died, now live just outside of London with my godfather. I enjoy dueling, quidditch and potions, and I would like to be an auror or ministry enchantress.”

Taking a deep breath to refill her lungs, Evany inwardly banged her head on the table. Why did she have to ramble her customary introductory lie? Like she would ever work for the Ministry! Looking around, she quickly took in the other witches and wizards. The De Wynter heir, Marcus (seemed like kind of a jerk, but whatever, wasn’t her problem, he might make a good ally, seemed like he didn’t like muggles either); the redhead girl with the accent; the one with dirty-blonde hair (Her name was Ava, or something like that); a black haired girl (Erin? Ellen?); the other heir, Destrian Dayne; a tiny, shy looking girl; and a few other random people. Luckily, they didn’t seem to have noticed her ramble, and if they did, they were smart enough not to say anything. Her cool facade was still intact, and she made a good assessment of some potential allies.

Her heart was still racing with the emotion she felt at the sorting ceremony. It is as if deep in her soul she knew that the sorting hat did not miss - and, indeed, Slytherin was her second "choice". Marianne founds a small space on the table and sat discreetly, but in time to hear a girl with platinum blond hair telling where she was born and where she now lives. She also said what she would like to be in the future. Marianne watched her attitude later, wondering if she would say something or not to introduce herself to others. Unlike all her elaborate presentation, Marianne just raised her hand in the air, waved and said, "Hello, my name is Marianne Brito and I am very happy to have been selected for Slytherin." It was limited there. She did not go out screaming that it was pure blood or spreading hatred against the muggleborns. Her childhood friend Bella, also of Slytherin, had a muggle dad and as much as she remembered she liked him very much.

Then she took a deep breath and turned her attention to the food on the table, feeling her stomach turn hungrily. She was picking things up, serving on her plate and trying to get used to being there at Hogwarts. She began to miss the cats at her mother's home and made a pout of discontent. As the beginning of some supposed subject, Marianne turned her face to the girl next to her - Evany, perhaps? She could not quite hear her name - and asked, "Why can not we bring any animals to school? My parents might have had their pets in the past." And, in fact, this seemed to be a very important subject for the little redhead girl that just arrived.

Sensing a rustle of fabric to her left, Evany half-turned, seeing a girl with a pout on her face and vivid red hair. Turning back, Evany started piling her plate high with food, only partly listening to the girl’s breathless introduction “Hello, my name is Marianne Brito, and I am very happy to have been selected for Slytherin.” It was quick and curt, unlike Evany’s. Sensing hostility, she eyed Marianne more critically. Say what you might, but Evany was an expert at reading people. The slight jitter in her leg suggested impatience, and her fancy robes denoted wealth. Pureblood, most likely, but she seemed rather nice.

She was just about to turn back to her food (they really did have a great selection here,) when she caught the tail end of a question that she suspected had been aimed at her. Something about pets? Turning around, she saw Marianne looking at her expectantly. ”Sorry, could you repeat that? Didn’t catch your question. I’m Evany by th- Ow! Evany accidentally stabbed herself with her fork while attempting to talk and eat at the same time. ”Ahh, that hurt.” Quickly grabbing a napkin and pressing it to the wound to staunch the bleeding, she turned back to the redhead, an embarrassed smirk playing across Evany’s features.

Evany's deeply critical stare did not go unnoticed by Marianne. She wondered if she should have said more in her presentation and whether she necessarily had to say that it was pure-blood and her family's position in the witch community. Well, they even had an elf and a genealogical tree very extensive by mixing with other pure-blood families (and, also, eventually some muggleborn). She became anxious afterwards and with an uneasy feeling that she should have fulfilled some of the expectations of the others in Slytherin.

Upon receiving the girl's attention the redhead gave a friendly smile and was ready to repeat her regret over the ban on having pets at school, when Evany was injured with the fork in her hand. The redhead's huge dark eyes widened to the same size as her concern. "Oh, excuse me! I ended up distracting you and now you've hurt yourself because of me!" She turned on the bench to the silver-haired girl and held out both hands before showing that she would only help her. She pulled out a silver silk ribbon that bound part of her hair and then offered it to Evany. "You can use the ribbon to tie where you hurt. If you want, of course." She did not want to impose anything and her tone was really sweet. "And... S-Sorry... I do not think I said everything, Evany. My family is pure blood and in the future I want to be a great Quidditch player, just like my mother."

”Wha- oh, no, it’s fine, but thank you.” stuttered Evany in response to the girl’s comment. ”No, really, it’s ok. This sort of thing tends to happen a lot when I’m multitasking. So far, I’ve stabbed myself with a fork, punched a wall, and tripped over a marble. Oh, and that time I accidentally set my godfather’s house elf on fire. That was funny.” Evany snickered at the memory.

Marianne continued talking, saying that she was pureblood, (yes, Evany had been right! She internally congratulated herself.) and that she wanted to be a great quidditch player. Apparently Evany’s assessment had not gone unnoticed. In an effort to break the awkwardness, she spoke. ”Oh, really? That’s so cool? Who’s your mom? What team?” The poor girl looked utterly bewildered as Evany barraged her with questions. ”Oh yeah, and you were saying about pets? Something about a ban?” As she waited for Marianne’s answer, she dug into her food. They had almost every form of nourishment imaginable. Evany didn’t even know how that was possible, but she wasn’t complaining. Piling her plate high with pasta, roti, sushi, steak, ribs, ceasar salad, fries, and lots else, Evany was lost in the pure ecstasy that only comes from eating truly great food.

Daniel made his way with quiet skill up from the Slytherin Common room towards the Great Hall. For him, the walk wasn’t bad. He enjoyed the way his shoes sounded along the stone corridor, and the way the pictures whispered. He had pictures of people in their family up on the walls at home, but they didn’t talk. They moved, an endless loop of once a soul caught on canvas, but this? This was so much different.

Eventually, after the boy lost his awestruck feeling, he found himself in the entrance hall. Pressed up against the stone staircase were the house point hourglasses his parents talked so much about. We’ve kissed sitting in front of the Ravenclaw Hourglass, he could hear his father tell him. His parents were far too engaged in his schooling that they failed to realized he cared at all. In which, the case was, he didn’t.

He continued on his way until he was in the Great Hall. It was noisy and bright, but he didn’t mind. It was a lot brighter than the common room, which sat underneath the murky waters of the Black Lake. He liked it. He glanced around before he made his way to the Slytherin table, dropping onto the bench towards the end. Apparently, it was where plenty of other First Years sat. All girl first years. Daniel usually didn’t mind who he sat with, but man, he was not interested in catty conversations.

Didn’t mean he didn’t want to start them.

He watched as the girl with blond hair started to pool her plate with food pasta, roti, steak, ribs… fries… things that shouldn’t be put together… he made a face. “Merlin, are you trying to get fat? You should probably moderate what you’re eating so it doesn’t look like you’re trying to become the newest Fat Friar,” he pointed out. He gave her a rather blank look.

He hadn’t meant to be over the top rude, but he couldn’t help but judge. It just… happened. Besides that, he moved his own plate slightly away from the girls and put on a butter roll with a side of beef and a good glop of potatoes before he poured himself a water. Nothing like having a good dinner to stave off the midnight blues.

”Merlin, are you trying to get fat? You should probably moderate what your eating so it doesn’t look like your trying to become the newest Fat Friar.” Evany whirled around to see the speaker was a boy her age, with dirty blond hair, gazing at her blankly. ’Arrogant prick’ Evany thought to herself, as she fixed the boy with a withering glare.

”This is how I normally eat, but for some reason, my weight does not change. Luckily, this means I can enjoy the good things in life. They do not include you. Get lost.” Evany responded coldly, and turned back to her plate. It was true she couldn’t get fat. She didn’t know how, she didn’t know why, but that’s how it was. Her godfather said it was because she had an unnaturally quick metabolism, but, while she wasn’t sure, she suspected there was some magic involved, though she couldn’t figure out who might be constantly supplying it. Perhaps her necklace? Or her bracelet? Maybe they were enchanted. She couldn’t really find out until she learned some spells.

She turned back to Marianne. The redhead seemed lost in her own world, and didn’t appear to have noticed the exchange between Evany and the jerk. ”Helloooo? Marianne? Earth to Marianne.” as Evany waved her hand in front of the girl’s face.

"She set fire to her grandfather's house elf?" She thought as she heard what the other girl, Evany, had told her about her clumsy personality. It reminded her a little of her old brother - which was a good thing from the point of view of the redhead, because she felt more at home that way.

"Really! My mom's name is Candice Brito and she plays for Holyhead Harpies in the beater position." So far it is the only league team made up of women and this fact generated even more pride of the daughter for her mother. "Although I aspire to become a chaser and not a beater." She found her mother's position on the team very dangerous and brutal - and it was - but the sport was also very... Dangerous.

While Evany filled her plate with various kinds of food, Marianne began to rephrase her old complaint: about pets. "It's just that Hogwarts is not allowing pets now, but at the time of my parents here at school they had theirs." Then in the distance the redheaded girl noticed that her brother (NPC) was coming toward her. In that small crowd of children, distressed by the variety of food, Marianne stood and hugged her older brother - a Hufflepuff. Several angry looks came from the Slytherin table, but the girl ignored it. The truth is that all the houses got along well with Hufflepuff, even Slytherin.

When Marianne settled back in the chair and sat for a minute reflecting - once more - on being in Slytherin, Evany caught her attention and waved a hand in front of her face. "Oh, pardon." The redhead grinned, picked up her plate and began to pour herself pasta and chips. "What happened? You look a little irritated." The girl questioned concerned about the blonde and looked around the table, noticing a boy staring at them. She looked from one to the other. "Has he done anything to you?" Marianne's voice reached a hiss that must have been menacing, but at that age, with those huge cheeks, she was nothing but a spoiled child.

Sorry for the delay of more than a day to answer it, Evany. And hello, Daniel! Forgiveness for Marianne's spoiled personality.

He was perfectly content just sitting and eating there now, since what he had wanted to say had been said. But, typical of girls, they got catty and rude, and something about the blonde's words really... mmm. It made him raise an eyebrow.

He picked up the bread from his plate, buttered it, and took a bite. He'd look first at the blonde, and then the bristling red head, and reply to them in turn. "First off, I'm allowed to sit here just like anyone else at the Slytherin table or in Slytherin. If you don't want people to judge you for the fact you're eating at least the whole house's worth of food, you should eat in moderation. Otherwise, and I say this again, you will turn into the Fat Friar, version two. Or maybe one and a half," he pointed out. He shrugged his shoulders towards them as he took another bite of his bread. It was good, but definitely not as good as his mother's food.

But then the red head girl made a jab, and she turned her attention towards him. He couldn't help but snort in amusement; what was she trying to do? Scare him? With such bright hair and those chubby cheeks, Daniel felt the least bit intimidated by the other snake. "I simply told her the truth and she got sensitive over it, Redhead. Nothing for you to get involved in," he stated, waving off the other girl. He'd go back to his food and ignore them, of course, until they kept going at him.

Until then, he polished off his bread and started on the potatoes.

”No, it’s fine, he’s just a jerk.” Evany rolled her eyes at the idiot. What did he even know anyways? Certainly nothing about her. Honestly. She wasn’t even sure why she disliked him so much. Something about him just rubbed her the wrong way. Whatever. ”Yeah, I don’t know why no animals. I heard something about an accident? I’m suppose it will be fixed eventually. Anyways, your mum is a beater for the Holyhead Harpies? That’s awesome, they’re my favourite team! Personally, I’d probably tryout for a chaser, like you.”

Finishing up her enormous dinner, Evany suddenly let out a large yawn. It had been a largely stressful day, and she was pretty tired. Yawning again, she took a small bowl of ice cream to round out her ‘balanced’ meal. Turning to Marianne, she said goodnight, and explained about wanting to explore the castle a bit before bed. ”I’ll see you tomorrow yeah? Or if we’re in the same dorm, I’ll see you then, ‘Kay?”

Not waiting for an answer, she got up, gave the boy a cheeky smirk, and left the Great Hall. Wandering the halls, she admired the tapestries, statues and various knights in armour, before finally making her way down to the dungeons, and finding her way to the hidden entrance to the Slytherin common room. Just before she walked in, a smile played across Evany’s delicate features.

Hello, Daniel. Don’t worry, Marianne, it’s completely fine. Most people aren’t even paying attention. I only respond so quickly because I check twice a day (I have no real life friends ;) jk) and I’m subscribed to this topic. I have enjoyed my interactions with the both of you so far. Good Luck in the future!
