Revenge is a Dish Best Served Cold! PV: Colin McCoire closed

Attire: Usual weekend kit: Slytherin pride, neck ring, kilt, no shoes. Nothing fancy!

Colin stood outside the duelling club door. Just as he had a few months ago when he had been summoned by Dan Palmer to answer for his crimes against the House. Bloody fake Slytherin, Colin said under his breath. He stood no chance against a bigger, stronger more experienced tickle warrior and duellist. But that didn't matter. He stood up for himself. That mattered. And now here he stood again. Jannette Applebottom had asked him to help her with a duelling problem.

She'd told the whole Snek Squad about her defeat. To some Ravenhag. Cynthia Something or Other. Colin was no expert duellist, but was an enthusiastic one! And he loved to practice his spell casting! At the very least, he could help Jannette with her casting and practice a little himself! He pushed the door open to the empty room and was greeted by Jannette Applebottom, duellist extraordinaire! She looked like she was fending off sixteen dark wizards at once! How could Colin possibly pass up the opportunity to join in the affray!

"YAWOOOOOOOOO!!" he howled as he ran towards the piste, calling out the most powerful spells and charms imaginable! (Of course, they were all made up, but that was beside the point!) "Stercus erecto! Moribundiorum! Infossare!" he cried out as he took up his position at Jannette's back. "You okay Janny!? I think we got em all!"

Colin looked around and noticed a stack of books on the table. "Whoa," he said as he flicked through them. "Did you nick every book in the library then, Janny!?" He laid his own satchel down on the table and withdrew from it a box.

A box full of cupcakes!

Once he was sure Jannette had gotten a whiff of the sugary and spicy delights, he closed up the box, set it on top of his satchel and said: "Colloportus." Turning towards his house mate, he said: "We celebrate after practice, right!"

One Cynthia down. Two Cynthia’s down. Three Cynthia’s down! Jannette was completely immersed in her own little world, as imaginary red sparks hit each of them one by one. Then from out of nowhere, a wolf appears right behind her, howling loudly. It was nice knowing that Colin would play along with Jannettes imaginary childish world.

"Stercus erecto! Moribundiorum! Infossare!"

“Erielllio, Klouniellio!” she snapped back, making up random spell names, as she rattles her wand like a child, as she’d make explosion sound effects with each swipe of her wand. After finally destroying all of them, a wide grin from ear to ear appears on the brunette's face, her dimples showing as she turns to Colin in triumphant victory.

"You okay Janny!? I think we got em all!"

The girl nods, looking around at the empty dueling room, as she’d wipes the imaginary sweat from her forehead, and breaths heavily like she ran a marathon. “Aye… we… go’h – d’em… all…”¹

Maybe she’s still in that imaginary world…

"Whoa, Did you nick every book in the library then, Janny!?”

Coming back to reality, Jannette waddles over to the table, shaking her head. “NOOooOOoooo, oi only nicked 16 books from dah library, no’ every book.”² She said matter-of-factly, blinking a little. Sarcasm wasn’t Jannettes strong suit… “Bu’ oi go’ so many books on dueling, oi ‘ave…”³ She then begins to list of 15 of the books before taking a book from the table with the cover showing a Grey Troll smiling over a sunshine rainbow. “Oh ‘n d’is book too, I read a few pages ‘n i’s really good! Look, LOOK!”⁴ With excitement, the brunette places the book so close in front of Colin's face that the book cover almost touches the lad's nose!

“Dahs Henry dah troll! And He --”⁵ Jannette then began to explain for another 4 minutes about Henry the Troll, and how he taught her the basics of Dueling stances, as she was still talking, Colin decided to put some cupcakes on top of his satchel on the table. Now Colin has the Niffler's attention. Jannette would stop what she says and make a goofy face, her emerald green eyes looking down at the tasty treat, “♪ OOOoooOOOoooUUuuUUu ♪ – CUHPCAKES!~” With a tone of excitement, Jannette would move her hand closer to the box of cupcakes on top of his satchel.

"Colloportus."

The cupcake box would be locked tightly shut! The Niffler would pull her hand back quickly as if she touched a hot stove. “OIIII!!!” She squeaks, turning to Colin and frowning. “Wha’ was dah for?!” She says, crossing her arms and tapping her foot. It was hard to tell if she was asking a question, or demanding an answer from Colin at this point.

"We celebrate after practice, right!"

Really… that’s what Colin was gonna do. In response, Jannette did her new favorite thing, which was making obnoxious magical creature sounds when things don’t go her. “RUUWWHHHGGGHHH-H-H-H-H-HH!” She croaked in frustration. She couldn’t believe he would do something like this. It was like he was doing this on purpose… “Wha’?! Bu’ dahs no’ FAiiIIiiiIiirrRrrrrrrRRrrr! ‘Ow am I suppose t’concentrate with cuhpcakes on my mind?”⁶ It was a genuine question since Jannette constantly struggled to concentrate when learning Wingardium Leviosa because of Professor Zoë reward of cake after completing the assignment. “Can I eat jus' one?!” She’d raise her index finger, counter ‘1’, “Pllleeeassseeeee!!!! Pre’eh please with an apple on top?!”⁷ She begged. If Jannette can’t handle being distracted by a simple cupcake, how is she going to be able to beat Cynthia! “I pinky promise tha’ oi won’ ask fer another one through the whole lesson, pleeeasssseee, PPLLELEEEASSSEEE!”⁸

That wouldn't do. Even though Clair was a Ravenclaw, Colin did take pride in his own house, and wasn't about to let some Ravenclown destroy one of mates and fellow Snek Squad member in a duel if he could help it! So before Jannette could think of a retort, he took her by the hand and led her over towards where the practice dummies stood. Poor things, Colin thought. Just standing there, waiting for us students to hit them with every spell we know how to cast!

"Right. So I reckon that you probably know flipendo and incendio by now. Those are really good spells to know if you're going to duel someone. Fire spells are good because they last a little while and can make your opponent loose their concentration. But the knockback jinx is really cool because you can knock your opponent right out! Watch this."

Colin reached up into his right sleeve and withdrew his wand. Ten whole inches of hawthorn and unicorn hair. Even now its short length caused Colin some embarrassment. He'd heard often enough that the shorter a wizard's wand, the more he was lacking. He was well aware that Liam's wand was fourteen and a half inches; and even Jannette's was a whopper compared to his own! He shook his head to clear his mind.

He settled into a good casting stance. He flicked his wand and shouted: "FLIPENDO!" The spell flew from the end of his wand and across the space to the poor waiting dummy. When the spell's energy struck the dummy on the left side of its chest, it was thrown off balance and turned to the left side. "Not bad, eh? Alright, Janny! Give it go!"

“My names noh’ Jannette Applegob, it’s Jannette Applebottom…”¹ Jannette corrects him matter-of-factly, still, how gullible can Jannette be to not understanding nicknames; of course, he knows her name. Sighing, Jannette lets out a loud groan. “Fooooinnneee…. Fooooiiinnneee bu’ after, do you pinky promise oi’ ge’ tah whole thing? Righ’, RIGH’?!”² The Niffler then proceeds to scuttle closer to the boy before raising her pinky-paw and looking at him all wide-eyed. “Pinky promise?!” To Jannette, the pinky promise was equivalent to an Unbreakable Vow! As Colin continued, the brunette couldn’t help but giggle, “Heh, Ravenhag… dahs a good one!” Another amazing joke Jannette is gonna use on Cynthia during the duel to get into the girls head. “Aye oi’ll be makin’ ‘er cry all dah way back to her common room loike a baby!”³

'Watch this.' Well, Jannette took that literally as she’d go all wide-eyed and would watch intently at the boy as the boy got into his dueling stance, and aimed his wand, doing all the fancy swishes and flicks. It’s pretty impressive to think a duelist like him can get prepared so quickly. Should she be taking notes?

"FLIPENDO!”

Okay, it’s official. Colin is a badass! Jannette’s eyes would light up like fireworks, her face in complete amazement at Colin's spellcasting. Sure, Cynthia did the exact same spell on Jannette and well outbursts ensued, but it was obviously different since Colin is doing the spell and not Ravenhag! “WOooooooaaahhh, dahs so cool!~”⁴ She says, with gleeful claps. It’s funny to think that in Jannettes eyes, Colin could literally do any spell and she’ll still think he’s the coolest person in all of Hogwarts.

“Not bad, eh? Alright, Janny! Give it go!"

“Okay, okay, okay.” Jannette said in rapid succession, taking out her wand, “Let's see...” Jannette retorts, she clears her throat and aims her wand at the dummy. Doing a rather whimsical flick, she’d try to concentrate though, it was difficult, especially with the thoughts of revenge and cupcakes on her mind. “FLIIIIIHHHHHHHHHHPENDDOOOOOOOOOoooOOOOoo!~” She screeches at the top of her lungs. nothing. She’d blink a few times, “FLIHHHHHPPPPEEENNDOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!” She repeats again, but nothing but a fizzle came out of her wand. “Oh fer Merlins sake… i’s doin’ dat t’ing again…”⁵ She’d mutter under her breath, shaking her wand as if that will definitely fix the problem.

Sighing, the girl looks at Colin, “Oi tried doing uh charm on Cynthia ‘n nothin’ worked. I swear she cursed moi wand Colin! LOOK”⁶ She’d then aim her wand at herself, breaking almost any rule in the classroom, that if a Professor saw this, would probably have a heart attack. “Verdimillious .” Again, nothing happened but silence. “See?! Nothin'...! Don’ worry Colin oi've done t'is loike a bijjilion times, oi can even do it on you,”⁷ Without even caring about Colin's own well-being (or even input), "Watch this!" She said with excitement, her wand now aimed directly at Colin. “VEEERRRRDDIIIIMMMIILLLIOOUUUSSSS!”

As she said that, green sparks would shoot out of her wand and landing right at Colin's foot! Was it bad that Jannette broke every rule in the dueling club? Yes. Did she feel horrible for accidentally hitting Colin? Sure. Was it inappropriate that Jannette thought it was a little funny? Well, it’s best not to answer that. But on the bright side, at least her wand works… "OI Colin!!!!" She'd exclaim, scurrying over to her friend, "Oi'm SO sorry, are you alrigh'?!"
