don’t ever let your guard down…
Rhys watched as Bernard almost immediately shook his head while they talked. Surely, he was also thinking that if they went to the hospital wing to get checked up they’d both get in trouble— him for pushing Rhys into the lake, and Rhys for punching him and possibly breaking his nose. While Rhys talked, they also noticed something peculiar about the other student. For a moment, it looked like a single drop of blood leaked from one of his eyes and fell down his cheek to join the blood that was already smeared on the lower half of his face. He swiped it away, and Rhys pretended not to notice, but now this kid definitely had their attention.
Interesting, Rhys thought briefly. Might be in the company of a dhampir. They hadn’t really encountered one before— not in real life, anyways. Their quill pal, Charlie Jacobsen was also a dhampir, and had confided a few of the things that she struggled with as a result. One of them being that she cried blood.
Rhys quickly let this slip from their mind, though, as Bernard spoke. ”Unless like ya wanna get in trawble or somethin', also like I should be foine, like I've gon through warse," He claimed, while giving Rhys a smile that in no way reassured them that he was telling the truth. They sighed as he did, rubbing their hand over their face. It was the one that they’d used to punch, and so a bit of blood smeared over their nose as their hand skimmed it. Rhys looked down at their hand before stuffing both of their hands in their pockets.
“You should still make sure it’s okay… don’t let pride get in the way, I’m sure I’ll get in trouble for this regardless of showing up at the hospital wing with you, as the clear cause of any injury you may have upon arriving. As soon as my brothers hear I got in a fight they’ll go running to owl my parents. And that will go interestingly.” Rhys tilted their head in the direction of the Hogwarts castle, shrugging. ”Come on, I got nothing to lose. Least I could do is own up to it.” There was no guarantee that this kid would actually listen to Rhys, but nevertheless they turned and started walking back towards Hogwarts. They trusted he would follow.

I sighed after I made a terrible attempt to lie about my wellbeing, rubbing my throbbing nose not realizing all I succeeded in doing was smudging the blood across my face like warrior paint. Rhys took a quick gander at their own blood-covered hands before shoving them into their large pants' pockets.
“You should still make sure it’s okay… don’t let pride get in the way..."
I frowned at those words, why did it always had to pride? Why did that have to be the reason why I didn't wanna go to the nurses office. Maybe I didn't want to worry my mama who was half-way across the world from me or disappoint my grandfather further. I didn't know why what they said triggered me so much, I calmed myself taking a deep breath as they continued.
"I’m sure I’ll get in trouble for this regardless of showing up at the hospital wing with you, as the clear cause of any injury you may have upon arriving. As soon as my brothers hear I got in a fight they’ll go running to owl my parents. And that will go interestingly.”
I shrugged, but I started to feel bad for the guy, I didn't want to get them in trouble... But I also didn't want to get in trouble either. The only reason the fight began was because I pushed them into the great lake... I sighed rubbing my face, I made my decision.
Rhys gestured their head towards the hogwarts castle before they spoke once more.
”Come on, I got nothing to lose. Least I could do is own up to it.”
They didn't wait for my response as they started towards the castle. I took one more look at my blood covered hands and a stab of pain in my nose, I sighed before following them...

"Forget about the dirty looks. The photographs your boyfriend took. You said you read me like a book. But the pages all are torn and frayed!"
