Quidditch Ravenclaw vs Gryffindor - Winter 2023

Edme couldn't deny that she was, admittedly, terrified.

It was one thing when you were sitting on the bench the whole time acting as basically a charismatic audience member. But the quick change from second to first string had hit her like a train. No worries now, though, as it was the time and place to be prepared, so that was what the second-year planned on doing.

Ayuna was petrified. It was her first time playing quidditch and is, apparently, one of the youngest player in the lot. At least she was second string seeker, the thought cheered her up a bit. Don't get her wrong, the girl was perfectly loyal to her house and wanted the team to win as much as any Ravenclaw. Still, it might be better to sit and watch how the game is actually played.

Taking a seat on the bench, the young Ravenclaw hoped that her house would win. Smiling nervously and eagerly at the same time, she promised to cheer the hardest for her teammates.

Cecily wasn't usually this nervous for a match, but then again, their team didn't usually have such a large turnover in between matches. Ravenclaw had already lost once this season -- it seemed they had used up all their luck on the three regular season matches last year -- and now they were fielding first years as their first-strings. Although they'd had plenty of practices, Cecily still wasn't sure how they'd perform under pressure, but she'd simply have to trust her team to pull it all together when it mattered most.

Gripping her trusty Silver Arrow, the Ravenclaw Captain took her place in the sky, grimacing against the February chill. They'd been the underdogs before. The Eagles, embarrassingly, had the longest losing streak of any house in Cecily's tenure on the team, as far as she knew, but they'd risen to the occasion last year and beaten the defending Hogwarts champions. Ravenclaw was no stranger to underclassmen showing their worth. This match would be no exception.

Gryffindor vs Ravenclaw

Today was the worst kind of day to be put on the bench. Though he was hot with annoyance at having been set aside, it wasn't enough to keep his teeth from chattering or to stop the shiver running down his spine. He had been looking forward to playing all week and now he was stuck on the sidelines, watching as his team went up against Ravenclaw. The only solace was that he hadn't yet spotted George Henry, holding a sign with his name on it written in chicken scratch. The over-enthusiastic Hufflepuff would be right to stay indoors with this kind of nippy weather. Finnegan shifted his weight from one leg to the other, back and forth, back and forth as if he'd forgotten to go to the loo before the game. With a grimace he watched his team mates take to the sky and he imagined himself up there, soaring through the sky, the wind in his hair and the thrill of the game rushing through his veins. Instead he was stuck on the miserable ground, pacing up and down the sideline with his broom clutched tightly. As if becoming second choice wasn't insult enough, he'd been given an inferior broom to fly on too. It had only made him all the more determined to make lasting impression, if only he would be given the chance...

The greatest part about this whole thing was that Elena was first string and Elsian, thankfully, decidedly, was not. A possible blessing for the rest of the team and an honest to goodness god sent mercy for him seeing how he was running on 5 hours of sleep and grumpy spite. 5 hours was simply not enough. Should have listened and not stayed up. He regretted everything.

Thankfully he wasn’t the one playing! Hotshot was, so…

As far as he was concerned, he was very much in the clear to simply sit back and enjoy without a care in the world! Which was exactly what he was going to do too if he had anything to say about it, which he did, he had many things to say on the fact if pushed actually, not limited to-

‘If you don’t want me to single handedly bring this team down you will let me nap.’

Or-

‘At least the bludger will give me the sweet relief of being knocked out.’

And-

‘If you think I’m getting back up after getting knocked off my broom on 5 hours of sleep, be ready for disappointment.’

At one point he had maybe, possibly, thought better of sleeping on the ‘job’ so to speak, but Elsian had thankfully come back to his senses rather quickly. Not get a quick nap in? Pfft- who were they trying to kid? It was better to get a quick nap here rather than out there in the horrible, downright unfortunate event he had to play over Elena.

Yes, he rationalized, pulling out a blanket from beneath the bench…and by god, putting the blanket there this morning had been his best life choice up to date, just a tiny nap.

Just resting the eyes really! Or at least that's the poor excuse he would throw at anyone who said anything, not the least bit sincere about it and very obviously not caring enough to pretend otherwise as he wrapped himself in the red blanket. And honestly, they should just be thankful he bothered to be tasteful in his choice of blankets, he’d almost brought a blue one.

Jorah flew over the pitch, greeted with a mixture of cheers and boos from the surrounding spectators. The announcer's disdain would go unnoticed for now. This was turning out to be a rough year. Ravenclaw had lost their first match of the season. Sometimes you just get knocked down. In times of failure, the coward shifts blame and hides. As every Gryffindor knows, it takes courage to acknowledge your faults and try to work through them. Jorah took solace in knowing he did everything he could, but it wasn’t enough. He vowed to give the rest of this season 110%. When Jorah made a promise, he kept it. Winning wouldn't be easy, but nothing worth doing is easy. Quitting just wasn’t an option. Who in their right mind would quit this early in the season anyway? Jorah and his team would work together and fight for the honor and glory of the Quidditch cup. If they didn’t win, at least they would know they tried.

It was time to be out in the field again. The sun was shining, it was a beautiful day and while Haley tried to ignore the excitement, she enjoyed the sun's rays on her skin. Her red hair seemed even brighter and her freckles even more prominent. But even as the sun shone, the cold wind blew across her. Haley wished she had a warm cup of cocoa in her hand, too, but she knew once she was in the air and the game began, she wouldn't notice the cold.

After the Ravenclaws flew their lap, it was the Lions' turn. Both teams had lost the last game and Haley hoped things would go better for Gryffindor today. It wasn't long before the whistle blew and all Haley focused on was the game.
