It's not in the stars to hold our destiny, but in ourselves.
It was time that Aravis had done what she was supposed to last year. She had gotten side-tracked and hadn't done what she knew she should do, for a solid year. In her defense, she spent most of her last year in the hospital wing after the events of the Blossom ball. She still had nightmares of that day. She had sent Ami an owl that read as follows "Dear Ami, I would like to ask you to meet me on the grounds exactly at 6 P.M. ~A person with regrets." Perhaps it had been a little weird, but it would do. She waited and waited, it was only 5:50 but it felt like forever. In front of her was a small blanket with a plate of brownies, and a stand that held a cake that Aravis had baked herself. It wasn't much really, but it meant a lot to Aravis.
The cake wasn't too fancy. It was a vanilla cake with buttercream icing, strawberries, mint and chocolate pieces, edible golden stars, and chocolate drizzle. She hoped it was good enough to show how sorry she really was. She had set napkins down and two plates in case Ami did accept her apology. After all, even if she didn't, it was worth trying.

The letter had been a strange one. Ami didn't quite recall having met anyone that year yet with, ahem, regrets, so she had absolutely no clue as to who the sender might have been. However, whoever it was, she intended to make amends and put her best foot forward. First impressions- or, first re-impressions, were important, weren't they? Brushing her hair and wearing a somewhat-decent shirt, Ami deemed herself presentable enough to make amends.
But wait, some voice in the back of her mind whispered quietly. What if it's Dorian? Oh, if it was Dorian... she'd never forgive him. Ever.
She'd have to take the chance, however. Walking down to the grounds, she found herself perfectly punctual, as planned. The only person out there was... Aravis Escanora.
Ami didn't really know where their relationship stood, if she was completely honest with herself. On the one had, the two had gotten into quite the argument that day by the Great Lake. On the other hand, Aravis had baked a cake for Mia's birthday party... which had been incredibly selfless of her to do. Ami could appreciate that, especially considering all the man-hours that went into baking a cake.
Speaking of cakes, Aravis had prepared some sort of sweets feast, which all looked lovely, but... "This looks- wow, it's all amazing," Ami said, completely blown away, her face giving away just how impressed she was at Aravis's baking talent. "But... I'm sorry, I'm a vegan." BOOM, the consequences of a 2nd-grade field gone wrong.
"This is about last year, isn't it?" Ami said quietly, sitting down across from Aravis. "You know, I feel bad about that day sometimes, too. I was a total ass, and totally pissed off about nothing at all. I'm sorry about that."

She smiled at Ami when she said that she was a vegan. Ara always came prepared. She reached in a near by basket that she had used to carry everything and pulled out a smaller vegan cake she had made just in case. "Lucky for you, I made a vegan cake! I didn't want to risk anything, if you don't like it that's fine. I've never tried making vegan cake until now." She said with a smile. Aravis nodded as she listened to Ami. It was about last year.
"So was I, and I'm so sorry I hexed you. That was horrible of me to do, I can be down right horrible at times and you didn't deserve it, I'm so so sorry." She said smiling sadly at Ami. Her attitude had cost her so much including Ami, Becky, and tons of other people- even though a few she was being nice to they just didn't like her tone. "Sorry the letter was so...odd. I didn't know what to write so I just scribbled something down." She said as she cut a piece of the non-vegan cake for herself- after all if Ami couldn't eat it Aravis sure could. She moved a bit of her now white hair over her shoulder so it wouldn't manage to wind up with icing in it.

"A vegan cake?" Ami said in surprise, her eyebrows shooting up across her forehead as Aravis pulled another cake out of her basket like some sort of magician, or something. "Wow, you've really outdone yourself, Aravis. Thank you."
Slowly, deliberately cutting herself a hearty slice of the cake, she took a plate and laid the slice down, picking up a fork and digging in. "Oh my gosh... Aravis, this is amazing," she exclaimed, desperately trying not to talk with her mouth full- that was rude, after all, and she was here to make amends, not stuff her face with sweet.
Clearing her throat awkwardly, Ami listened to Aravis's apology with an open heart, feeling the sincerity behind the girl's words. "Of course, I totally understand," Ami said, nodding her head. "I think... yeah, that argument was really kinda dumb, wasn't it?" Sticking her hand out for a handshake, the Hufflepuff tried for another smile. "Truce? Maybe... maybe even friends?"
It was out there, and now she couldn't take it back. Maybe Aravis secretly hated her guts or whatever, but it couldn't hurt to try. Today was all about making amends, and Ami was doing her damn best to do so. Becoming friends with Aravis would prove that yes, she was capable of letting the past stay in the past, where it belonged, and that she was willing to move on.
Hopefully, Aravis was willing to do the same. After all, this only worked if both of them put in their share towards making this friendship work.

"Friends works for me." She smiled shaking Ami's hand. She was glad they had resolved the petty first year argument. "And I'm glad my cake isn't a flop, I was so worried it would be horrible and ruin everything." She said with a slight laugh. It was nice, being able to laugh and relax. Not worrying about past arguments seemed to lift an enormous burden off of her shoulders. It was like a caged bird set free. Nothing more made her happy than being relaxed, especially when she managed to piss off her brother who almost never got mad.
Today Aravis had proved something to herself, she could make amends and start new. She continued to smile happily unsure of what to say. "Sorry I'm not so....talkative. I've never really had a friend before so it's quite new to me." She said nervously laughing. The only friends she had seemed to slowly work their way out of Aravis' life. Either that, or they caused issues and were troublesome. She wasn't sure what else to say so she eagerly waited Ami's reply. It was hard to talk when you weren't used to it, but it was even harder being nice when you had rarely seen kindness from people. It was like learning a whole new language for Aravis, which made it even weirder since she knew so many.

Friends. Ami blew a quiet sigh of relief, the air pushing her short hair that had fallen in front of her face out of the way. Aravis looked... different. Her distinct pitch-black hair had been dyed white, and she might not have been able to recognize her had she not remembered her face. Of course, her hair was also shorter, much shorter than it had been last year. It was different for her- an uncomfortable different, but it was something she'd learn to cope with. She always found a way to deal with things.
"No friends?" Ami echoed with a disbelieving laugh. You'd think that someone with such a pure lineage or whatever would have some clout here at the school, but maybe not. The feeling was familiar, however- her own militia father had rank, yet that had got her absolutely nothing at, get this, a military school. "You and me both, sister," she grumbled, a reluctant smile creeping over her face.
"How'd the rest of your first year go, Aravis?" she asked, continuing to dig into the cake. She hadn't really seen the girl throughout the year after their brief blow-up, save for Mia's birthday, and perhaps she had some news to share. For instance, the Daenerys hair really was quite the attention-grabber.
"Your hair looks killer, by the way. Uh, killer's a compliment, not an insult," she added, bringing up the topic. Apparently, some random first-year had been terrified out of her mind when Ami had said that her piano-playing was "killer", so now she felt the need to clarify herself every single time she used some of her old, familiar slang language. It was second-nature to her, and she couldn't stop herself.

Aravis gave a small puff of air nervously at the mention of first year. "First year...well, it was a living nightmare to say the least, as you probably know I had a habit of picking fights." She says with a slight laugh. "The Blossomball fire didn't go well at all, I managed to end up with a nasty scar from the fire all the way up leg, of course it could be much worse. I feel like this year will be much better." She smiles moving a fallen strand of hair out of her face.
Fidgeting with a small blue snowflake necklace she smiled at the compliment. "Thank you, although I'm sure my family takes killer and wicked as a compliment-OH MY GOODNESS I did not mean to say that." Aravis said laughing a little too hard at that. After all, she had been used to her crappy family jokes so trying not to say stuff like that was quite the challenge for her. "Anyways, I uh, had died my hair white since white is supposed to be the symbol purity and innocence, I guess for some reason it would make me less intimidating to first years for some reason, it keeps washing out which is rather annoying." She said smiling. "How was your first year and summer after it?"

The Blossomball... a wry smile spread over Ami's face as she recounted the memory. She had recently been assigned to write an article on it, too, so there was also fun in tearing apart an blood supremacists. She had debated whether she should write an editorial on the matter or not, but evidently, the informative article covering the ball had been enough. "Ugh, that York dude, am I right?" she sighed, shaking her head. Because of him, she had been shoved to the ground by a boy, in an effort to protect her from the flames... but no matter, that was a situation that had passed and was long and gone, now.
The scar sounded nasty, and her face twisted into a scowl at the mention of the injuries many had received from Charles York's reckless actions. Had he not thought of the repercussions that would follow? It was despicable to try and purposely hurt so many people at once like that. It was incredibly cowardly, in Ami's opinion- if you were going to hurt someone, it should be one-on-one, all your cards out on the table, risking everything. The playing field was leveled, and that was the proper way to fight someone.
Or, at least in her expert opinion.
Ami laughed along politely with Aravis's joke, although it slightly unnerved her. She didn't know anything about the other girl's family, although from their argument last year, it was obvious that she was supposed to know them, and they were dark, powerful people. No matter- they were friends now, and she would carry along whatever baggage Aravis had as her family.
"First year was... well, I'm not really sure, to be entirely honest," Ami admitted, answering Aravis's questions as she shoveled another bite of cake into her mouth. After she swallowed, she added, "Pretty busy, I guess. I didn't know if I wanted to come back this year, but my mom managed to talk me into it. Summer camp here was great, too! Did a lot of cool stuff, y'know?
"Do you want to eat dinner together, later?" she asked suddenly, the idea springing to mind. "It's not like I really have anyone else to sit with..."
