Finished Lines of Blood are Thicker than Tears pv monica

10th January 2023

It had been five days since she saw her on the train ride back to Hogwarts. And only three days for everything to spiral the wrong way downhill. The news and rumours spread like wildfire, eventually reaching her ears early Tuesday morning in the Great Hall. Just minutes ago, it would come as a surprise to those around as an older Gryffindor morphed into a large avian, abandoning the breakfast of beans and toast she was feasting on as she left her seat and into the air and towards the large doors.

Despite flying being exponentially faster than walking, each passing second felt like dreadful minutes. Aurelia was in a state of near panic and utter unease as she soared outside in the open down the castle then through the hallways, narrowly avoiding fazed students on their way to the Great Hall on her path to the Slytherin Commons, where she might find the second year. Praying that she was there and not in the hospital wing from the terrifying incident.

Such was a relief when the familiar face of the younger Slytherin came into view as she turned a corner. Now to see a massive owl flying right in her way could cause one to shit their pants, and it was at this moment Aurelia knew she had no way of slowing down fast enough. There were no breaks or an emergency lever to slow her down, try as she might, but they would collide rather hard. The momentum of the heavy impact sent them both to meet the floor.

Aurelia regained the form of an adolescent witch, the emotions, something so very human, crashed back down on her in turmoil, eliciting the moisture that now brimmed at her eyes. "I'm sorry, I'm so sorry," In a profuse chant, she apologised in a tone low but frantic. They were on the cold cobblestone ground in the middle of the hallway. The sixth-year would pull her into a tight embrace. "I heard what happened, I'm sorry." The Gryffindor whispered against her ear, her voice trembling.

For a while, she would let the moment pass in the solemn comfort of a hug before pulling away and holding the younger girl at arm's length. "Are you alright? Were you hurt?" She asked, her eyes in a desperate search for any signs of hurt. Then again, she would pull Monica into yet a second hug, relief that she was unscathed. "I promised Victoria I'd take care of you, and yet... I'm so sorry, @Monica Evans."

Monica stirred in her bed. Her eyes hung, longing to remain shut. Opening them was turture, but the day still had to go on, even if sleep wasn't apart of the events that took place the prior night. Monica stared at the ceiling, everything that had transpired running through her mind. Though the heat of the moment was over, the lingering tension in the Slytherin's quarters remained ever present.

Kiwi scurried up to Monica's face, softly tickling her noise with her whiskers. Monica stroked the small rats head, before gazing around her dorm... she was in fact the last one to leave. Looking at the time, she new that breakfast was nearly over, and she even wondered if it was worth rushing around to attempted to make it there in time.

She through back her covers, dragging herself out of bed, she threw on her clothes and robe for the day, the night still hanging onto her face, catching a glimpse of herself in the mirror, she looked like a ghost. She left her room, hair barely brushed, just thrown up into a messy bun, Kiwi hid back in Monica's hood. Surely news of last nights events had circled by now... Monica couldn't help but feel shame. Since the moment she got to Hogwarts, she had heard nothing but rummers and horrible accounts when it came to House Slytherin. Most of which Monica never saw herself, but felt there was a lot against the house of Snakes. Before last night, Monica nearly believed those assumptions to be false, but it would seem there might be some truth to it all. Or at least that is now how it would be seen as. "Of course a snake went crazy and tried to kill someone, that is what they do!" Monica sneered at the thought of what people now thought of them... How could she ever defend the honour of the snakes, if members of her house pulled shit like this?

She left the Common room, her feel gliding across the concrete floor as she trudged her way to the Great Hall. Hopefully she would make it in time to have a little something to eat.

As Monica rounded the corner, she looked up nearly in time to see a massive bird like form coming right for her. She barely had anytime to react before the creature crashed into her! Sending her flying to the floor, Bashing Monica's head against the unforgiving cement. Monica's vision became hazed, as she tried to figure out what had happened... then the mass shifted from Bird to Witch, it was Aurelia!
She was in tears, repeating to Monica, "I'm Sorry." Monica tried to piece together what the Gryffindor was talking about, her head still pounding, then before she knew it she was pulled into a tight embrace. "I heard what happened, I'm sorry."

Then it all clicked together, rummers do travel fast, and Aurelia had already heard about last nights events. Monica forgot all about her pounding head, and fell into Aurelia's arms... she felt so safe, so secure, and before she knew it, all the emotions that she piled up from last night came bursting out. The Slytherin began to sob into the 6th year's robe.

Aurelia pulled back, looking Monica up and down asking if she was alright. Monica sat, tear's overtaken her face, tried to answer as best she could, "I'm---fine... just a bit shaken." Aurelia pulled her in for another hug, commenting on her promise to take care of her, Monica spoke into the girls shoulder, "Hey...this isn't your fault...you have nothing to be sorry for." Monica tried to assured her. She pulled out of the hug to fully face her blood relative "Luckily no one was killed... but everyone is a bit on edge. I really didn't do much, Head Master was there, and all the prefects and head of house... I more suffer from losing sleep." Monica could feel her hands shaking, after releasing all of that pent up emotion, her body was surging with exhaustion mixed with adrenaline... she wanted nothing more than to just make it all go away...

She fell back into Aurelia's arms, at the moment it was the safest place she could go. Tears began to fall again down Monica's cheeks.

In tears and broken sobs, Monica fell into her embrace, letting herself all go within the safety net she had created. For however long she required, Aurelia would let her stay. Poor girl. She was so young, but so was Aurelia when a similar incident occurred in her second year. Those memories were still vivid in her head. A dhampir mind full of delirium, in the dirty abandoned lavatories, he threw a severing spell her way before stabbing three and turning tail down the halls. It was traumatic.

There was no one for Aurelia then. No one to give her a hug, to help her through it all. But she was here for Monica now, such a desperately needed figure she never attained while younger. "Everything is going to be alright, Monica." Her voice came soft and alluring as she ran her fingers gently through Monica's hair. When they finally pulled away, both hands extended towards Monica's face, lightly brushing away the tears with her thumbs. To see Monica in such distress was heartbreaking. The incident was something a child should never have experienced, but Hogwarts was not the safest place.

"You're not hurt. That's all that matters now, I wouldn't forgive myself if you were. You have no idea how relieved I am." Aurelia's voice tremored, a fading waver of her initial paranoia. The older Gryffindor stood, offering a hand to help the younger Slytherin up. "The hallways are nowhere for a massive owl like me to soar at miles per hour." She joked, trying to lighten the mood. Then at the corner of her eye, she'd spot a glimpse of a critter in Monica's hood, her eyes narrowing.

Hearing Aurelia speak calmed Monica's mind. She was so safe, so secure. Though they have only known each other for such a fraction of Monica's life, it was as if Aurelia was always there for her. The sixth year began to stroke Monica's flowing strands of blue hair, and for the moment, all the fear, the worry, the trauma from the other night, melted away.
After a moment, Aurelia pulled away, using her thumbs to gently wipe away some of the remaining tears from Monica's face. Monica smiled up at her, as she could hear the slight tremor in the 6th year's voice saying, "You're not hurt. That's all that matters now, I wouldn't forgive myself if you were. You have no idea how relieved I am." Smiling back, Monica grabbed the girls hand, giving it a squeeze, not knowing how else to show her gratitude for Aurelia being in her life. The Gryffindor stood up, helping Monica to her feet also, breath finally came naturally to Monica's lungs once again. The strain of emotions dissipated, and only the faded tracks of tears on her face was the evidence left over from her melt down.

Monica chuckled, thinking how ridiculous it was for a giant Owl to have been flying that fast through the halls, "Certainly not..." Monica looked around the halls, "But it seems that no one seemed to be bothered by it." Then she noticed Aurelia's eyes narrow, what was she staring at? Her gaze fell past Monica... yet still felt like it was lingering on her. She tried to follow where Aurelia's eyes were looking, when she felt Kiwi poke out of her hood, sniffing at Monica's tear stains and licking them off... was that what she was looking at?

"Oh," Monica said as she pieced together who Aurelia was staring at, "Have you never met Kiwi?" Monica was about to pull the small rat out of her hood, but then recalled various people's reactions to Kiwi, and held off to know first if Aurelia was afraid of... or liked rats.

She held off taking her little rat out. Her body now relaxed. She felt rather safe. But time was ticking away. Monica had to be off for class.

"Thank you for checking in on me Auri! I don't know what I would do without you!" The words fell out of Monica's mouth, and a pit landed in her stomach.... almost like she felt like this moment... this relationship was nothing more than a fabrication. Like one wrong move, and it would go away forever...

She had felt this feeling before, this fear of people leaving. It was a sense Monica felt often, mostly with people who got to close. Like it was all to good to be true. Like they nothing she could do would keep them around. She longed for the safety of not knowing Auri... how much safer it would have been, nothing to loose....

tears formed again, but not because of the knife events, but now out of, fear of loosing this person she had grown so close with.

Perhaps it was something she should have dwelled on longer, maybe even spoken to Auri about these fears, but Monica didn't think these fears were worth mentioning... what if sharing them drove her away?

The Slytherin's mind was consumed with thoughts of loosing all close to her, almost like a looming shadow that had always been there. After all she lost the close connection with her parents, her bio mother didn't even want her.... what is to stop any meaningful relationship from abandoning Monica? She straightened up, and left to her dorm... not saying another word, just wanting to get through the day, forget the thoughts.... just get back to the blissful existence she was living before all of this spiral. Though she left the conversation with a harder heart.
