Alan gave a short look around, before deciding to step up to the moderator podium. Gently he sat down Tiger upon it, before letting his gaze wander through the gathering students and the four duellists that were approaching this duel. Hanako, Pea, Nessie and Julian would all gather and Alan would give a small introduction as well as some recent updates to the rules. "I am very excited to be your moderator for this duel as I don't think I've had the honor yet, but let's not talk much and let's see if luck is on your side today," he offered with a grin. He gave Tiger a pat, who had curled up on the podium as it was still rather early in the afternoon, he would like to spend some time doing other stuff later as it was the weekend, and gave a nod to the students.
"You may begin! Good luck to all four of you," he smiled.

Luck?!
Hana’s luck for today packed their bags and made a beeline towards the exit. A couple of monstrosities happened today that send Hanako into mild despair. First of, his partner?! To be honest when it was announced that Pea Elena Fowl would be joining the duelling team, he thought it had to be some joke. When it turned out to be true, he assumed she would quit on her own eventually. Her spectacular utterly embarrassing lost in the last match only solidified his assumption. There was no way she would stick around after that embarrassing defeat now would she? Well, he thought wrong. Not only, did she stick around. But she’s here, now - standing next to him as a partner. As a supposed equal.
Could he switch to Ileen back? Maybe Kennedy or Magnard would do fine really. But no. He had to stick around her longer than he already has to? Urgh, what a drag.
To make matters worse, his moderator?! The person he’s been avoiding since 1st year after dunking Pumpkin juice on his head and crying about it afterwards?! Hanako was livid. Truly. Livid.
And if that wasn’t enough. The cat? Who brings a friggin cat to a duel?!? How is this not allowed?! This was not a good day for Hanako. He wasn’t about to make it worse by losing today either.
“ Friggiinnn Vaness, friggin dumb snotty ugly cat, friggin captains making me work with this friggin bratty constantly screaming wannabe..” ever since he stepped onto the platform, a string of colourful words flowed under his breath in an barely audible manner. Fowl could hear it considering the distance between them, but to understand it would prove to be a difficult task. He was certain if she knew what he was saying, she wouldn't let it slide. “ Hey, Fowl “ he called out, this time in a language she knew, accompanied with a familiar annoying smile. “ Try not to pass so early, hm~? I can’t save you all the time ”. Big words from someone who lost his earlier duel as well. But in comparison to her skills, Hanako was certain he was far more experienced.
Vanes overseeing their duel wasn’t helping his mood either. Certainly, Hanako could just pretend he doesn’t know him right? The slytherin recalled Vanes to have a generally friendly demeanour. Maybe it’s all water under the bridge and he doesn’t even remember Hanako spilling pumpkin juice on him. The thought would have lightened up his mood if not for that dratted cat. Again, who allowed this?! Perhaps one of these rounds, he could ‘lose his aim’ and hit somewhere near the cat. Give it a good scare. Yea, sounds great.
Once he set his eyes on the Hufflepuffs they’d be dueling today, his earlier frown eased up into a small mischievous smile. He had a bit of internal hatred for the Hufflepuffs since he lost to them in the last round, sure. But that didn’t mean he couldn’t have a bit of fun.
“ Sure I can’t convince you two to forfeit now?” he called out to the other Hufflepuffs with a tone as sweet as candy. Probably a bit too sweet that one would be nauseous upon consuming it. “ It reaaaallyy wouldn’t feel so good to attack people as cute as you two~”
C'mon little puffs. Get riled up. Give him the exact reaction he wants so he can have his fun.

Honestly. She thinks the universe is playing a joke on her. Because out of all the dueling partners she could get- she would end up with the damned Japanese prick. Who for some godawful reason, she always bumps into ever since that "charming" blossom ball. Maybe he really does truly admire her that he keeps following her around. Oh- a stalker, definitely something that she could see from Tone.
Pea walk across to the spot where she is supposed to stand, right beside her ..partner. She could hear him muttering weird noises under his breath. Maybe he is too nervous to be standing near her presence. "Well, well, well, look who's here. Did you bribe the captains so you could be my partner, Tone?" Pea responds to Hana's hello, while exhaling her breath in disappointment. "You know if you admire me so much, you could've said so." Pea pulls a slight smirk just to annoy the dark-haired boy.
“ Try not to pass so early, hm~? I can’t save you all the time ”
Pea rolled her eyes. Yes, she knows that he saw her spectacular defeat at the last duel. But at least in her case, it was a close fight, while his defeat against the Hufflepuffs was, to put it nicely, was really pathetic. " Says the guy who passes out tragically on his last duel." She looks at the boy annoyingly. But she has to bare him for now- because all of her anger has to be focused on another target. The Hufflepuffs. Ugh- why does she always end up dueling them, honestly, last time they won only purely by luck. But this time, surely she will wipe them all out. It seemed that Tone is reacting the same way as her toward the Puffs, although she did not really agree with the 'cute' part. They did not certainly look cute in her eyes.
"Tone, if they forfeit now, then I would not have my fun playing with them~" The white-haired smirked at the two Hufflepuffs. "Now, do you prefer fire, or- slugs?" She raised her eyebrow, smiling smugly unto her opponents.

Slytherin vs Hufflepuff: Match 3
Julian found himself with an unusual bounce in his step as he made his way down to his second duel of the year. For the first time in his duelling career he was stepping up to that platform knowing that he had won a duel, and therefore that he could win one. Sure, their win hadn't felt especially fair, what with one of the participants freezing for a good portion of it, but they'd not just won, he'd maintained consciousness throughout the whole thing, and that was almost a bigger boost to his confidence than a good win might've been. Maybe some of his dodging practice was finally starting to pay off.
There also was, of course, the usual tight knot twisting his insides with nerves as he took up his spot with a short wave at his partner, but it felt infinitely more bearable than usual. His hands weren't even clammy.
Yes, he was feeling pretty good about the duel. At least up until the proceedings got started. After a couple of duels starting with polite hellos and even an instance or two of wishing the other team luck, the Slytherins' approach felt very disorienting.
"Um," he said, a faint heat creeping up his cheeks despite himself. He wasn't sure what the correct response to being called cute by a stranger (and not even a much older stranger, like one of his mother's friends) should be, so after a panicked glance in Nessie's direction he settled on not addressing any of that and just answering the questions that had been posed to them.
"We won't forfeit, and I'm not sure if that's a serious question," he tilted his head slightly as he addressed Pea. Was she really going to take their preferences into account, cause if so, Julian would rather neither. He was just fine with your garden variety Knockback Jinx, thank you very much.
It was then that he noticed the cat. Normally, it would've been a welcome distraction from the conversation, but in the context of a duel, it made him frown. "Will he be okay there? What if we hit him by mistake?" he asked the boy officiating their duel.

Nessie was still just as nervous as she'd been in the last stage - sure, she'd won her first duel, but it hadn't really felt like a success. She'd missed the majority of her spells, and one of them had very nearly hit her partner. The victory did not change the fact that her performance had left much to be desired, and so the young Hufflepuff hadn't really found the confidence she would've hoped for after such a result.
However, she was eager to be paired with Julian again, and determined to do her best not to let her spells go his way. She returned his wave as she took her spot on the piste, and then proceeded to evaluate the opposing team.
"Forfeit?" she repeated, tilting her own head in confusion. She'd be a horrible co-captain of her team if she just handed the other team the loss right now, wouldn't she?
The older Slytherin's words about cuteness caused Nessie to huff. Did he see her as a cute child? She might've been one of the youngest on her team, but would nobody take her seriously?! "You can choose to forfeit if you don't want to duel, you know," she pointed out, emotion creeping into her tone as the words got under her skin.
As for her preference between slugs and fire, Nessie was unknowingly in agreement with Julian: neither. Actually, her own spell preferences should've been quite clear to anybody who'd seen or heard of her one and only previous duel, but she supposed if Slytherin hadn't done any scouting it wasn't up to her to help them out, so she merely shrugged and got ready to begin.

Alan hadn't expected such chaos before the duel would even start, all the banter between the duellists was even more than he was used to. But it was also oddly amusing. He saw Hanako whom he hadn't seen in quite a while, at least not really. He had been hissing to himself while looking at him so Alan was sure he had been recognized as well. Alan smiled at Julian and gave a nod "Don't wory about him, he won't be hit," he calmed the badger. Hana opened the round by summoning a blinding light charm above his head, which would cause the badgers some trouble. Pea however missed her blindfolding spell at Nessie who in return tried the very same spell, was slightly distracted by Pea, she was simply so pretty and messed up her spell. Last but not least Julian used the nasty Curse of the Bogies on Hanako, which momentarily surprised Alan. It was a rather unkind spell for someone so worried over Tiger watching the duel. "So ruthless," he muttered quietly smiling brightly at the students. He was wondering who would win this duel for real now.

Slytherin vs Hufflepuff: Match 3
Perhaps he really should’ve thanked their captains for pairing him up with Fowl. Because it was only because of her that he gets pushed in the younger league, even as a 4th year. Ultimately, making the outcome of this duel much more predictable. So none of her snide comments got to him. But the one about about how his last duel went certainly hit some sort of nerve. In response, he rolled his eyes and figured it would be best to keep his mouth shut if he didn’t have a good comeback to that. Still, he assured himself things would be different.
At the very least, it seemed like Pea had the same idea as him to make this duel more fun. Now if only the Hufflepuff’s weren’t so…Hufflepuff about it. Why on earth would they even consider the two Slytherins to be serious? That was clearly a ruse to make them agitated. Maybe they had to do a bit more than just simple teasing to throw them off balance.
Pritchet, of course would probably receive more mercy in comparison to his partner. For backing Hanako up when it came to getting that stupid cat off the duel. Although for the wrong reasons, the slytherin was thankful someone said it.
"Don't worry about him, he won't be hit," Vanes said oh so calmly to the Hufflepuffs. Which frankly only ended up making Hanako roll his eyes . “ Yeah, don’t worry Pritchard . The damned demon spawn- erm, it - has more than a few lives to spare anyway “. In his own way, Hana attempted to soothe the boy’s concerns, as stupid as they may be. But really he just needed a way to tell everyone just how unhappy he was with the cat’s presence. At least it wouldn’t interfere the duel.
"You can choose to forfeit if you don't want to duel, you know," Thankfully, the younger Hufflepuff provided a much more fun reaction compared to her partner. She received a light shrug and a lighthearted grin from the boy. “ Oh well~. Remember, I tried to be nice, kiddo~ “
And then the duel started.
To be real, apart from winning, Hanako would have realllllyy liked to have Pea depend on him. To eat her own words and just be reminded that he was the superior one between the two. And she couldn’t do that if she passed out too quickly. Hanako could at least be somewhat confident on how many hits he can take. Fowl on the other hand? 2nd years were generally weak. Not much needed to be said. He thought his spell would for sure help her chances at not being a nuisance.
Unfortunate for him, he wouldn’t be able to help her out for long. “ urghsghhwhatfdusc” The curse of the boogies?! An unappealing spell through and through. Hanako felt sick to the stomach as he did his best to cover his runny nose. Through all the pain and suffering, Julian received a harsh glare from the slytherin boy. Unsure if the hufflepuff even managed to see it, considering the lumos maxima spell would’ve made it a tad bit for difficult for him to see. If not for the damned spell, he would’ve been in the mood to poke fun at how Fowl’s spell missed.
On the bright side, he hasn’t thought about the cat for a solid minute.

Julian gave Alan a sidelong glance, the boy's attempts to reassure him not altogether successful. The Gryffindor seemed confident that the cat wouldn't be hit, but Julian didn't understand how he could be so sure. Hanako's dismissive comment did very little to help things. Julian couldn't help but feel a little peeved on behalf of the cat at being called a demon.
"That doesn't really mean anything," he said.
lives were just a metaphor. "Sure, cats are nimble, but he could still get hurt." There wasn't much time to continue the discussion, however, as the duel got under way. Gripping his wand tightly, he uttered the incantation to the Curse of the Bogies and managed to get a hit in before anything came his way. He didn't even have time to notice if the effects of the spell had kicked in before the bright light produced by Hanako's own spellcasting had him squinting, trying to ignore the stinging in his eyes as he tried to keep his gaze on the other team.
Merlin, he hated bright lights.
Sight or no sight, though, he could hear Hanako's reaction to the bogies curse. "Sorry," he muttered. He'd been hit with the spell during his previous duel, so he knew first hand how uncomfortable it was. Alan might think he was ruthless, but the truth was duelling was often a negotiation between his conscience and his desire to be a good and effective teammate. He often had to remind himself that his opponents had signed up for this, knowing what they might be hit with--same as him. Bogies wasn't even the worst of the spells in his arsenal. It was unpleasant, but hardly dangerous. Still, it didn't mean he had to feel good about it.

The first round of their duel started in an instant. Good- no more wasting time, because she is ready to take down these halfwit Hufflepuffs. Hana started his spell and a blinding white light shone on the two badgers. She was actually a little impressed by that move, but now it was time for her attack. Pea raises her wand quickly into the dark-haired puff, but as her spell leaves her wand, Nessie manages to dodge her attack. Pea's right eyes twitch in disappointment, but all is forgiven as Nessie couldn't even produce the spell from her wand. It seems that she got a little distracted. The white-haired smirked, "What is it, Swansea? Too stunned by my charm?" But a shot of spell passes through her and hits Hana. Now that her partner is that annoying prat, Pea is unsure if she wanted to laugh or be disappointed. After all, he is still her dueling partner. But as the effect of the spell kicked in, she had another reaction, disgusting! She walks a few steps back from the Slytherin boy. "Ewwwww Tone- don't you dare get your phlegm on me!"

Slytherin vs Hufflepuff: Match 3
Truthfully, Nessie still wasn't comfortable with trying to jinx anybody - pretty or not. She wouldn't really have minded much that her spell hadn't worked, as she'd seen such a thing happen to duellists far more skilled than herself, except for Pea's words.
"Just trying to be nice," Nessie echoed Hanako's sentiments from earlier, although her tone lacked in any confidence, showing that she didn't really believe what she was saying. Nessie had never even tried to cast a spell besides the Knockback Jinx in a duel until now - and this was how her first attempt to venture out beyond the very basics of duelling was going.
What if she wasn't capable of casting anything else under pressure on the piste?!
Nessie tried to stay calm and stay focused, in hopes her duelling would improve. As annoying as it was to try to focus with the bright light across the platform. But Nessie felt she owed it to Julian to give it her best effort, considering that he seemed to be duelling quite well so far - not that she'd expected anything less.
