Honestly speaking, Marius Brown found it rather surprising that not so many pupils were around. He had originally expected to find much more participants; events like this were usually popular, in particular among the first years. It's only natural that hey're always very eager to land their hands on everything; everything always looks much more interesting in the first three months, the Hufflepuff said in his brain, to no one but himself. And then some of them give up quickly because magic turns out to be more complicated than their initial expectation. Others adapt pretty quickly and burn themselves out by stuffing their plates with more than what they can chew. Only few are able to maintain their enthusiasm to stay on extracurricular activities past their third year.
Of course, Marius Jinhao Brown himself was only in his second year at Hogwarts, and some people may consider himself as having no right to have such a thought when he had never been there or done that. But what occurred in his brain was not without any base; the opinion stemmed from his personal observation, brown eyes scanning around the venue, sharp ears catching conversations and introductions mentioning school years, brain analysing and making rough statistical guesses.
Besides, one can chain and cage a body, but not a thought or someone's spirits.
As usual, he began scanning the room once entering. No one he knew was in sight, save for one Ravenclaw who was busy with her friend, or her best friend. Someone she seemed to know well and be close with but Marius did not. The preteen decided not to disturb them; it would not be comfortable for any party if he did, including himself who would undoubtedly be a third wheel.
Without any doubt, it was a good idea to get to know new people, but starting a small talk without someone he did not know was not Marius' strong suit. He always got nervous when he saw new faces, feet cold and many times face frozen in its non-smiling mode. It happened again today, and the boy did not feel he was strong enough to fight the urge and prove to himself that he could do it. That he could put his dream to make new friends into action.
He had a couple of essays to finish tonight if he would like to have a relaxing weekend, therefore perhaps it was an okay idea not to chat too much so he would be able to leave early. But still, there was that feeling of guilt, an acknowledgement that he was using this reason as an excuse to retreat to his comfort, but perhaps not-so-healthy, zone.
Trying to drive away his attention from his guilt, Marius darted his sight to the quills, bottles of ink, and parchments on a table. It might be better for him to just start producing, pouring his ideas onto a piece of paper rather than battling with a dilemma ("To chat or not to chat, that is the question!"). There were even snacks and drinks provided, but the Hufflepuff thought he would not need them. For sure he enjoyed snacking once in a while, but somehow his brain worked better if he took nothing but good old fresh water while working.
Even though a number of supplies had been provided for those who were interested in building their prototypes immediately, Marius could not find any of them satisfactory. But truth be told, the problem was not with the supplies but rather with his mind, blank with ideas. Trying to calm himself down, the brown-haired preteen grab a parchment and a bottle of ink, and then proceeding to an empty chair at an empty table. He did not take any quill, for he preferred to use his favourite quill when composing a creative piece.
The theme for today's event was invention to help the wizarding world. Left hand beneath his chain, Marius tried to brainstorm what problem existed in the wizarding world. Lack of manmade light was a definite answer, but he knew very well that the answer was out there already, refused by many wizards. No matter how good an invention is, if no one is to use it, then there is nothing I can do about it. Promoting LED lights? That won't work unless there is electricity, and it's clear for me that they're adamant about refusing it. Stupid wizards, they let their foolish pride rob them out of a comfortable life...
Something that involved politics? Nah, that would not be a good idea to bring up. Besides, with these things, the only weapon to fight with was knowledge put into words, and the students were supposed to make, or at least sketch or write about, an invention instead of composing a piece of opinion fit for a magazine, a blog, or a newspaper.
The clock was ticking, but Marius' parchment was still as white as snow. The Chinese-English boy began to feel dizzy; he did not want to leave empty-handed after all the minutes he had spent here, but at the same time, he had no clue how to go on. Sighing, he sort of gave up, writing the best idea he could come up with. He no longer cared if it would be considered an invention or not.
"The safety in broom racing is currently concerning," he wrote. "Charms, or the like, should be applied to the brooms during the darker racing days so that racers and their brooms could easily be spotted, thus minimising the number of potential accidents caused by a participant crashing into another participant.
"In case of accident, the athletes who were still on track needs to be warned so that they would be more careful when passing said spot. This could be done with a simple flag signal, or an invention could be attached to their brooms - an invention that would immediately signalled to the broom's rider that they are entering an area where an accident has happened. In order to quickly help a fallen racer to ensure that they will receive a timely aid, trained volunteers could also be stationed at various points.
"Last but not least, I propose that racers ought to be given a chance to voice their opinion if they think the weather condition is too bad for a game. One way to do this would be having them raising an arm, but a charmed item that is put on the brooms and activated by the pressing of the thing is even better. If the majority of participants vote for the race to be postponed or even stopped, then it should be."

Having eyes, but not seeing beauty; having ears, but not hearing music; having minds, but not perceiving truth; having hearts that are never moved and therefore never set on fire - these are the things to fear.

That was what they needed to do, right? Come up with an idea and try and bring it into existence? Bailey suggested putting kitchen tools onto this swiss army knife item and Kim nodded again. "Maybe put a silverware set on there too? So you can eat wherever you are with ease?" He suggested and listened as the girl spoke of how skirts weren't very practical and that was why she hadn't worn them up until now. "Ah, right. Makes sense." Kim said and let his blue eyes flicker over the blond. "What made you want to put one on today?" The teen asked. "Did you just feel like changing your look?" He asked, somewhat curious. Bailey complimented his own outfit and Kim looked down at himself and then back up again. "Oh, this? It's alright, nothing really special, I just thought it looked nice. It's really comfortable and warm." He told her with a shrug of his shoulders. "I was going to go for a walk outside before dinner." Kim said and Puffie squeaked again, loving how Bailey was petting him. That was when Bailey spoke again, telling them about an idea she had come up with to add to the SAK. A stick of butter? Interesting. Of course, they'd need to spell the butter to never melt while it was on the SAK for convenience sake. "It sounds like it could be pretty popular if it works. But what is a tube of Chapstick? Is that some type of muggle food?" Kim asked, faintly curious. Bailey being a muggle was something he liked about her. ────────────────────── ㅤ ㅤ──────────────────────

Kim nodded when Bailey said she liked his plan. she was pretty sure they were thinking the same thing - hoping that Lily agreed with their plan.
Kim suggested adding silverware - it was a good idea. "I like that idea, silverware would be handy to have around... maybe we could add chopsticks to some of them too?"
The topic oddly turned to skirts. bailey started blushing, although she had no idea why. "My mum sent me a few, with the hogwarts emblem, and with anything I made
a deal with myself - I have to try it once. If i don't like it, i won't do it again. I have to say i do like the skirt, it's pretty comfortable, and the tights are warm.'
Pausing her slightly nervous chatting, bailey brushed some stray hair behind her ear, and out of her face. She had let it fall down, to cover her blushing face and now that she had recovered herself, she felt confident enough to return it to behind her ear.
"You look good! I like it, it looks comfortable!" Bailey said, continuing petting Puffie.
bailey laughed out loud when Kim asked curiously what chapstick was. he even asked if it was food.
"no..." Bailey said laughing. "Its a moisteririzer of sorts, for your lips? I think i have some in my bag, one moment...."
Bailey searched her bag, and pulled out a tube of mint chapstick and handing it to Kim for him to investigate.

ㅤ──────────────────────| ── | Kim nodded again. "Chopsticks would be a great addition. They're really easy to use and don't have sharp points." Other than a spoon, you could use chopsticks for everything else. They were very versatile by nature. As Bailey spoke regarding her skirts, Kim nodded. The girl's words made sense. He also would try anything once and reject it if he knew he didn't like it the first time. But of course, there were always exceptions to this. However, that usually didn't happen, not when it came to him. Puffie was happily getting pet by Bailey and seemed content to merely rest on her shoulder, for as long as possible. As Bailey explained to him what chapstick was, Kim listened with a bit of interest. He'd always been into muggle things, although he'd had to keep this a secret from his parents. They hated anything muggle or half-blood related, unless it had to do with making connections for ulterior reasons. To please them, Kim also adopted their aloof feelings towards such things. But inside, he was quite the opposite. Moisturizing lips? The green haired teen tilted his head to the side at the idea. Well, that certainly seemed useful to him, especially during winter. As Bailey handed him the item, Kim let his blue eyes flicker over it. Chapstick was an interesting invention. That was for sure. Opening it, which only took him a few seconds to figure out, Kim placed it on his lips. Oh, it had a mint flavor! "Seems like it could be used for food too. Like a flavoring, herb or spice. It tastes like mint." Kim remarked and gave it back to her again. "I think it could work on the SAK. So one of those mint things, the butter tube, mini chopsticks, spoon, knife, spatula, perhaps a mini twin bottle pair too. One could have salt-pepper and the other could have herbs-spices." The teen said, drawing everything they'd talked about earlier together. "Isn't there something muggles use for self-defense that has to do with pepper?" "We could add something like that on too. Put a spell on the pepper tube where it releases the pepper in some kind of mist?" Kim suggested. Other than what he'd already described, the invention should be ready to be created now! Once it was created, they could leave the area and Kim could go back to doing what he'd been about to do. Take a walk outside with Puffie, who was currently having fun on Bailey's shoulder. Kim stood up to lean over the table towards Bailey. The teen's face drew closer and closer to Bailey's own, almost too close to her. It was as if he was going to kiss her. And then, Kim stretched his hand out and scratched Puffie's head for a few seconds and drew back afterward. ────────────────────── ㅤ ㅤ──────────────────────

Kim seemed to understand her logic for trying things once, and Bailey wondered if he did something similar. I wonder… does everyone do this? With food and drinks and clothes and actives and everything? Or is it just my family and Kim?
Bailey smiled as she explained what chapstick was- Kim was so interest in it, which made Bailey happy. It was hard to get Kim to be fully interested in something, and he actually seemed invested in this.
“It could be! We could have different blends of seasoning… maybe a savory and a sweet one, with different combinations for each?” Bailey said, accepting the stick of chapstick back from Kim.
Kim mentioned a muggle something that had to do with pepper- Bailey smiled and asked “do you mean pepper spray? It really sucks to get it in your eyes. I had some I carried around when I was going to London by myself to train, just in case.
I love that idea! What if we had different attachments? Like you could customize your device, to have what you need?!”
Bailey leaned over her notebook, and started sketching the design.
She was about to ask Kim for critiques, and his thoughts when she glanced up, and saw Kim’s face inches from her.
uh… uh… what??? her mind screamed. no no no why is he this close???
Then Kim reached out and scarred puffie on the head, before returning to his seat. Bailey’s mind internally relaxed, and Bailey smiled, and passed the notebook to Kim.
“Thoughts?” she asked, taking puffie from her shoulder and holding him in her hand, and scratching him with her other hand.

Kim had always been rather interested in them. Although, the teen tended to hide this interest at home. He'd get punished for showing non-negative emotions towards muggles and muggle items. Even more so for halfbloods too. Only purebloods and wizard-borns were acceptable to his parents. A sigh escaped his lips at the thought, reminding him that the annual Sato Yule Ball was taking place soon. Something he couldn't really escape as each time he'd tried, it had ended with new trauma for him. Kim let his blue eyes flicker over their proposed invention. As it came together, the boy became more interested in creating this unique item... The only purpose for the errand was to create a diagram, or come up with an idea for an invention, not actually go about making the item. But Kim had always been creative and sometimes even obsessive. As everything started to come together, he started to want to actually make it. Whether or not that would be possible at all remained to be seen. Bailey gave her own thoughts on the device and Kim nodded. "Sounds like a plan!" He told her, thinking about what the finished product would look like inside his mind's eye.... Puffie squeaked as he was removed from Bailey's shoulder. But settled down almost instantly, when the girl held him in her hand and started to pet him. Kim glanced over at the pink puffball and a faint smile came to his lips. He looked pretty content and had always liked Bailey a lot. "You know... we should actually try and make the item sometime. What should we call it?" The boy asked, curious. The errand was winding down by now as people started to leave the room. They were pretty much done too, as all that needed to be submitted was the diagram of their invention. "Want to talk about it later on?" Kim asked as he got his things together to leave the room.... |

Kim had always seemed simi interested in Bailey and her muggleness, which bailey honestly found funny, and she loved to show Kim muggle things. Even the simplest things seemed to blow his mind, or at least made him think about something differently.
To be clear, Bailey felt the same way about magic and magical things - she was constantly finding new things, and learning and growing as a witch.
Kim agreed with her idea and plan, and Bailey could just see their invention in her mind. It would truly be amazing!!!! She was so excited, and hoped that they would be able to make it a reality.
Bailey petted Puffie, and she smiled down at the little puffball. She had always loved the little thing, and whenever she saw him, or heard his happy cherps, Bailey could not not smile!
"Sure i'd love to talk more about this - it would be really cool if we could make it a reality!!!! haha i have no ideas for names - do you have any ideas?"
Bailey smiled as she and Kim handed in their idea, and then left the room. The errand was ending, and Bailey considered it a success - she and Kim had come up with a pretty good idea, and hopefully would be able to make it a reality!
