One hand pressed to the satchel on his side, the other holding on to the railing on his way to the Owlery. He had wanted to pay Miko a visit and write a letter to his parents. To give them an update on what has been going on. When he made it up to the owls Miko flew down to him and landed on his shoulder.
"Hello Miko, you pretty bird" He greeted the owl. He sat down on the floor of the Owlery as he didn't mind it. He made sure were he was sitting was clean. He pulled out the ink, Parchment and his Crow feather quill. He began to write and reading whatever he wrote out loud as a habit.
"Dear mom and dad, school is fine. So are my classes. But the food is not as good as the stuff at home, I also think our beds are better then the ones in the hufflepuff common room." he paused for a moment thinking about what he should write next. In all honesty the hufflepuff beds were great he was just used to his own at home and thought it was superior to the new one.
He reached back into his satchel to give Miko a bird treat, he deserved it. André smiled at the bird. His pet, that he loved dearly.

Writing out loud
Rebecca climbed up the steps to the owlery after his last class ended. His sister and parents had already sent him a letter demanding to know the details of his first day. He was looking around for one of the loaner owls, but noticed another first year squatting on the ground and scribbling out a letter.
"Dear Mom and Dad," the Hufflepuff was muttering. Rebecca leaned on the wall, eyebrows raised. Usually he wasn't one to snoop on a conversation, but now he was curious enough to stay silent and let the situation play out.
"School is fine, so are my classes," the boy continued, unaware of his audience. "But the food is not as good as the stuff at home, I also think our beds are better then the ones in the Hufflepuff common room."
The kid paused, as if considering what to write next. Rebecca was dying trying to stifle his laughter. It seemed ridiculous that this boy's first letter home was to complain about the food. In a school full of magic, where almost every need was met by house elves and they had an entire castle to explore-- he was talking about the quality of what, the bedsheets?!
Unfortunately, it seemed that the bird perched on the other boy's shoulder had heard Rebecca's quiet snort of amusement. It gave a piercing hoot! which startled Rebecca enough to jump, his bag falling off of his shoulder with a clatter.
Realizing he'd been spotted, Rebecca picked up his bag and gave a sheepish grin. "Er-- sorry," he rubbed his neck in embarassment. "Carry on, didn't mean to bother you."

André feed the treat to the snowy owl, Then looked back to his uncompleted letter. Unsure on how to continue. As the first year placed his quill on the parchment to keep writing, Miko gave a rather loud and piercing hoot. Followed by a clatter.
The loud noises in quick unexpected succession nearly made him just out of skin. They also made him leave a streak of ink going down a bit of the parchment. André looked were Miko was looking, with a sour expression on his face. The boy who must have dropped his bag apologized. "oh.. Umm yeah, no problem."
André took a deep breath, the boy, who was most likely a Slytherin based on his robes, probably didn't mean to scare the crap out of him. Plus he seemed embarrassed. "Sorry about my owl... He's like that sometimes" that was probably the best thing to say in that situation. Miko give out another hoot, more quiet.
The hufflepuff looked back down at his parchment, trying to decide if he would continue with the streak of ink, or get a new piece and start over. In all honesty he was just trying to avoid eye contact. He felt kinda awkward.
