Verthandi has thought herself unique. She likes the idea of standing out a bit more, though she tends to be shy and quiet on a verbal sense. She enjoys a quiet time of reading up on the creatures of of the Wizarding world, and thinks herself a friend to many animals, even the dangerous ones. Verthandi lacks a sense of direction. She looks to others for help and finds it difficult to feel included with other people in a place she's not used to. Verthandi will often keep many things to herself and prefers one-on-one interactions with others than that of a group. In her free time, Verthandi spends time reading a book about Magical Beasts or she spends time with a friend whom she had chosen to devote most of her time to. She doesn't fly much on the account that she is terrified of heights and prefers to be down on earth.

Verthandi Lived on her families farm in Stirling, Scotland. She helped care for the animals and took on a few riding lessons from her parents. Because she lived on a farm, Verthandi didn't spend too much time with people outside her family. She would ride in the wagon to the town and trade their goods, usually with a book in hand while her parents discussed business. At the age of 8years old, Verthandi's parents divorced she remained on the farm with her mother. The separation took a toll on Verthandi that caused her to be closer to her mother, but yearn for a sense of approval from a male role-model. She devoted herself to her chores and kept busy on the farm with relationships of the animals for comfort.

Verthandi's first use of magic was, to say the least, comical at best. While her mother tended sheep in the field, Verthandi looked after the horses in the barn. She brushed them and cleaned their hooves. While she fed them, Verthandi would talk to them as she often did. The particular conversation was about her father. How she wondered if he would ever return. Verthandi is 9 years old at this time. As she fed one horse a handful of carrots, she didn't expect the horse to bite at her fingers, a carelessness when she looked away for a moment. The sudden nibble caused Verthandi to shriek in surprise. Her mother came running and told Verthandi that she couldn't tend to the horses without her mother being present. Verthandi was worried her mother wouldn't let her tend to the horses again and kicked at the stall door in front of her in anger and shamefulness. The force of her kick was so powerful that the metal of the door dented itself in, her mother shocked by the act.

Vethandi had dreamed all the past 2 years since she had heard of Hogwarts that she would join a house of her choice. She wanted to be great, but she also wanted to better herself along the way. On the day of her time to prepare for Hogwarts, the day she would board the Hogwarts Express, Vera felt excited, but she was also scared. The idea of leaving her mother alone on the farm worried her.

Her mother tucked a few strands of hair behind Vera's ear and cupped her face in her hands. Life had been tough without her father around to support the lifestyle Vera and her mother had chosen not to leave. "What if I make a full of me self?" Vera asked as they brushed a horse on fall winds. "You let them haver and be canny to those who call you stupid. Kill them with kindness, girl. You'll see what comes of it." Then as an added thought, "Whit’s fur ye’ll no go by ye...you'll be fine."
