The Great Hall was crowded with students and new first years like Gabe himself. It was the day after the sorting, so everyone was very chatty, making friends and introducing themselves to new faces. Gabriel was honestly starving but didn't feel like eating. He was still quite shocked he was sorted into Gryffindor; he had always dreamt of going to his common room in the dungeons, as a Slytherin. Gryffindor was a good house though, and Gabe was prideful to be a part of it. He couldn't remember when his classes started, though he and the rest of the firsties would get their schedules later today.
He had plans to finish breakfast early so he could quickly write a letter to his parents and his brother. He had promised to tell them what house he was and how his first day went. Technically this was his first full day, but it didn't matter. Finally admitting defeat to his stomach, he picked up a piece of toast and ended up eating quite a bit of food. At some point, he was ready to leave but some first years he hadn't caught the name of asked him to play a game of Gobstones, a fun game his mom introduced him to quite early in his years, later that morning in the courtyard.
He figured it was a good idea to meet some new friends, as they would help his school days. Plus, he got to play gobstones so that was fun. He nodded but told them he might be late because he had stuff to do. Instinctively he kept looking towards the Slytherin table, where his cousin Daniel Palmer should've been there. That had been the thing that kept eating him, thinking about Dan's thoughts. Ignoring this, he went back to eating. He wasn't hungry anymore and was getting ready to leave when he saw Dan. Smiling, he walked over to him hoping Daniel saw him. "Dan! It's great to see you, hope you paid a bit of attention to me in the sorting, I'm special of course." He said jokingly, beaming at his cousin.Mentioning: @Daniel Palmer

Dan had been there at the Sorting, beaming with pride when his cousin had been called.
Imagine how crushed he was when Gabe was sorted into Gryffindor. He had so been looking forward to having someone in Slytheron to lift his Andy-less despression. Instead, his cousin was sorted as far from him as could possibly be.
This crushing disappointment was lifted by Loki. The kitty always wanted to play, and always lifted his master's spirits with his kitty antics.
After a few hours, Dan decided that it was fine if Gabriel was in Gryffindor. He COULD have been put in the same house as that broom-ruining half wit bastard Jorah Moussa. No, there were FAR worse things than being in Gryffindor.
Dan resolved that he would be happy for Gabriel. He would grow to accept and even appreciate his little Gryffindor Cousin. He refused to let the separation get to him. Gabriel was still HERE in Hogwarts with him. He'd be able to see how incredible he was at Quidditch, marvel at his new falcon form, and watch as his team demolished Gryffindor and the other teams in this year's Quidditch Cup.
And there was no reason why he and Gabe couldnt hang out like normal.
So lost was Dan in his thoughts and plans, that his trained seeker eyes only barely noticed Gabe on his way to see him.
He greeted Dan, along with a proclamation of how special he was.
"Aye, a'course yer special. Yer a Palmer, how much more special can ye ask fer?"
With a patented smirk, he continued.
"Gryffindor, huh? Just like yer uncle. Dad always had great things to say about Gryffindor."
He winked.
"Ive yet to see any, but at least they got one now.
Just as well. All the concentrated talent of TWO Palmers in one house would probly be too much for the Dungeons to handle."

"I think you are correct. Two Palmers in the same house would be too much for them. Though I still wished I got Slytherin." He grinned sadly. He'd always looked up to his cousin, being years older than him and being so cool. He hoped to follow in his footsteps, though the first thing he'd have in common with Dan was already gone.
He looked up at his cousin. "Have you already become an animangus? That would be so cool!" He stared at him fascinatedly. Dan had talked about being some sort of bird when he was old enough. Gabe had to admit to himself that he was jealous of Dan for that. Of course, he wouldn't tell this to Dan. Gabe wanted to be one when he was in fifth year too.
"What about quidditch? I know you're on the team and the best player there, how're you doing there?" His cousin had been in Hogwarts for 4 years, half through his 5th year. He was always great at the wizarding sports game, Quidditch. He had extreme talent on a broom.
He wouldn't be here with Gabe for his whole Hogwarts education, but Gabe was excited to hang out and have fun with him while he was there. After a small pause, Gabe admitted to his cousin his fears of being in a different house. "I intended to be sorted into Slytherin...I really did. I'm sorry I didn't. Hopefully we can still hang out like normal." He dropped his gaze to the floor.

"I wish ye got Slytherin too, lad. Despite the school implodin' from the talent and amazingness of two Palmers in the same house, it would've been great to be in the same house. And ye'd probly like Slytherin better."
Then Dan beamed.
"Yep! An animagus! They don't call me the Falcon's Eye of Slytherin just cuz of my seeker skills."
Before Dan could show it off, Gabe started going on about Quidditch.
"Yep. Yer lookin at the Captain of the Cloud Cobras! But my team is the best team because we work together. An' comparin' me as the best isn't really fair... Im the only seeker on my team, 'cept my backup."
Dan smirked.
"But he doesnt get a whole lotta field time, if ya catch me. In fact... I might be considerin' goin' pro after I graduate. Can ye imagine? Me as Ireland's Seeker in the Quidditch World Cup?"
Dan's eyes alit for a moment just thinking about it. Him. winning the World Cup.
Then Gabe seemed to turn sad. And spoke of how badly he wanted to be in Slytherin. Dan knew the Sorting Hat was always right. But he also heard talk of how Harry Potter pathetically begged the Hat not to put him in Slytherin and it actually acquiesced. Odd how the hat seemed to play favorites.
"Look mate. The Hat is always right. If it says ye'd do better in Gryffindor, then that's where ye need ta be. Its not been wrong in the centuries it's been here, I doubt ye'll be first time it is."
Then, he decided to lift Gabe's spirits.
"Oi, where'r ye lookin? Makin' sure I'm not wearin shoes, are ye? Well good news, I aint. Now look up or ye'll miss it."
As Gabe's head turned up, Dan bent his legs and leapt into the air. At the apex of his jump, he morphed into his animal form, and a Peregrine Falcon took flight around the Great Hall before landing on a chair, eyeing Gabe.
Dan had learned not to land on people's arms with those talons after a nasty mishap. He had not been aware that they would be so strong and sharp.
Dan was also amazed by how strong his eyes were in this form. He could make out every last minute detail of Gabe's face. He could easily see individual threads on his robe. These falcon eyes were incredible.

Mentioning: @Daniel Palmer"I might like Slytherin better, but I got to learn to love Gryffindor. It'll where I'll be for years anyways."
He wondered what Dan meant by "Falcon's eye of Slytherin" did that mean an actual Falcon or was that just a metaphor. He went on about Quidditch though, another interesting thing.
"Captain of the team! That's great! I really do think you are the best anyways." He grinned proudly at his older cousin. He excitedly nodded his head at Dan's thought of playing in the World Cup. "I bet ya could do it, no one 's better than you. I'd be cheering ya on the whole time!" He beamed. Could he even imagine it, Dan playing for Irish? It would be fantastic. He knew this was something Dan could, and wanted to do.
He kept his head down through Dan's talk of the sorting hat always being right. Sure, that hat was correct for centuries but Gabe belonging to Gryffindor just seemed wrong.
He smiled and looked up at Dan's comment about his shoes. His cousin was always a good person to cheer someone up, and he had actually made Gabe feel better and rose his spirit.
Almost as soon as he looked up, he raised an arm when his cousin jumped in the air, but half a second later Gabe felt his mouth drop and his eyes widen. His cousin just turned into a bird, no, a Falcon to be precise. It was the most fantastic thing Gabe had seen, and he watched him fly around the Great Hall before he landed on a chair. He hung his mouth open for a bit before quickly shutting it.
"That was...AMAZING. I can't believe it, you looked marvelous. Great choice of an animagus." He was still watching the bird that was his cousin, admiring the beauty of the animal with it's black and white colors.

Dan let a falcon's cry to further impress Gabe, then flew back right at him!
But of course, he turned back. The Falcon turned into a barefooted Irish boy who stopped moving after 2 steps, and bowed with all the theatrics and extravagance he could manage.
"Thank ye kindly, Gabe. But ah... it's not a choice, exactly. You don't get to choose your animagus. I just got lucky that mine's as amazing as it is. I've heard there are some side effects, like taking on some habits and traits of your animagus, but I haven't found anything wrong with-"
Dan noticed a sudden movement in his peripheral vision to his right, and his head jerked slightly and his eyes moved to the side and fixated on it sharply and unmoving. About 4 to 5 seconds later, when he realized it was just a student tripping on themselves, he returned his gaze to Gabe.
"Like I said, nuthin out of the ordinary so far. Hey, while I'm thinkin' of it, how about later ye tell me what the Gryffindor Common Room is like, and I'll tell ye what the Slytherin Common Room is like, yeah?"
Dan always hated not being able to see the other common rooms. He wanted to see the aesthetics of the other houses! Slytherins was obviously the best, but still! |

Mentioning: @Daniel PalmerAfter his awwing and oohing at Dan's impressive stunt, he slowly clapped his hands. "Oh. I didn't know that. that's a tad bit disappointing. I hope when I become one, it'll be as great as yours." He commented, thinking about what his choice would be. Probably a sort of bird like his cousins, that was pretty cool. He was going to follow in Dan's footsteps, become an animangus and be super awesome.
Just as Dan was mentioning something about no side effects of becoming an animangus, Gabe noticed a slight jerk in Dan's head. He looked over at what he was looking at and cocked his head. Just some kid falling, and Dan said he had "no side effects yet". "Yeah yeah, I'm sure nothing weirds happened, not at all." He mocked, biting his lip to stop himself from laughing. "I'm sure you don't think anything weird happened, well because you're a weird lad yourself." He jeered, grinning up at him. Anyone would think the Palmer kids were a bit weird, part animal barefooted kids.
The thought crossed his mind too, what did the Slytherin common room look like? Gabe was supposed to know by now, but Gryffindor it was. He nodded his head in agreement to the idea. "Of course, I am really interested in what Slytherin looks like. Probably lots of black and green, really cool. I guess the Gryffindor isn't bad, red of course but really cool nonetheless. You need to tell me about yours first though." He rambled on, many thoughts about houses and looks and colors going through his head all at once.
