Character planning

I got lost on what to do with a former character on site, so when I deactivated her for Simon I planned everythingggg out. I had his entire long term plot in mind before I even figured out his name, then picked his name for meaning.

Simon = to listen/to hear, Ezra = helper, Kincaid = battle leader. They’ll all come into play at some point in his story.

I’m open to things changing over time a bit, but the general outline of where I want to go, a goal of sorts, is set. Year by year, and eventually where I want him to be as an adult.

Opeila is mostly planned out. I have her main plot, but it allows for some additions and involvement of others, which is fun, I know where she is heading and I never get bored because there is always the next plotpoint to play out.

On the other side my INPC is not planned out at all, but the flexibility is fun too.

I just searched a Ravenclaw girl for my avatar. I never did roleplays so I just did the simplest preparation. I am Chinese so I actually used a similar English name~

Irina has not an easy life poor girl!
I have an idea of what I want to do with her. She will have to face many battles inside and out her family. I want her to be a fighter for justice and in name of the werewolves community and other races. She's a rebel that I intend to keep forcing barriers with, but she will grow up so she will become smarter and responsible (that means she will learn to break the limits wisely!)
But outside of what I have planned for her, one thing I really like here is that all our characters in some way get to interfere in the major plan and sometimes it brings so many interesting changes in our path. I love this in Hio!

I too made Kayla up on the spot.

Just the main stuff though, I used to use Kayla on a different site too, so there was that. I kind of just whatever braincells exsisted in my mind to create Kayla

Same! Also Rina doesn't like Thorn lol. She won't have to deal with her much longer!

I spent 2 months planning Ava and writing out some applications and descriptions for her, as well as coding her ency and planning her family and their faces

Lucia was supposed to be the mc in a book I never wrote so I had a vague idea of what she was about but close to nothing about her character development. she's evolved so much since I created her and I'm really glad about that because she wasn't a very good character when I made her xD I have quite a few plans for her future now though! nothing set in stone because I like to see how things turn out, but enough of an idea to know where I want her to end up

I did a lot of planning for Kim with the idea of having him get into any of the 4 houses but Gryffindor. I specifically wrote things out so that I could make him fit into any of them but Gryffindor. It would make the most sense for him to get into Ravenclaw or Slytherin but he could have made it into Hufflepuff too if I'd tweaked a few minor things. He definitely 100% did not fit into Gryffindor and I don't just mean about traits. I mean actual background/history things. If I'd kept him the way I had originally, I would have had to actually literally IC kill him off and activate a new character. Not joking.

So he couldn't just have the traits of another House and 'make it work' there. For most people, yes they wouldn't have to change anything and could fit into whatever House they got into. It could even be a great RP experience too. Maybe even a club devoted to how the members don't fit into the Houses they were sorted into which btw is an awesome idea. Maybe I'll start one later on if someone else doesn't. Anyway, for Kim - the way I'd originally written him, it just did not work. It was impossible. Therefore, I had to completely rewrite his entire background/history, family, personality etc... everything about him to make it understandable why he'd be in Gryffindor. The result of this is what he is like today!

The one thing that I think should change though in the future... you should be sorted FIRST before you have to make your character. So things would go about in this manner.

1.) Sign up for an account.
2.) Determine basic things on the profile - status, birthday, nationality + residence.
3.) Get the items on your list from Diagon Alley.
4.) Get your wand.
5.) Get sorted by the sorting hat.
6.) Finish filling out your character sheet, personality, history etc... everything else.
7.) Get validated by a staff member.
8.) Start rping as you are now a full member of HiO!

This is what I think should be done. It is more convenient and less frustrating for new members.
But this is just my opinion.
