Tanner looked at the girl before him unfazed by her words. "I could care less about your blood status. You need to learn to respect your elders. Lydia, teach your younger cousin some manners. She needs an attitude adjustment." Even though she knew better, Darci glared at her elder brother. "How dare you speak to her that way. You are the one who has no right. Tanner, I resent the fact that you have no decency when speaking to those younger than you. It's obserd. You need to leave now. I'm not going anywhere with someone who refuses to respect me and my friends." Darci was holding back. She wanted to punch Tanner square across his jaw, but she knew better than to do that in public, besides she could feel others around them beginning to look out and see what was happening.

Remembering that she was able to brake away from her family what attending the school, Darci backed up into her compartment. Taking out her want she held it towards her brother. Tanner looked at his little sister with a cold expression, but his eyes held fear. He knew that she already knew a few spells, one being a knock back jinx. He didn't want to be on the other end of that spell. Knowing he was wrong he scoffed, walking back to where his friends were, not saying a word to them as he sat down.

Anastasia smirked at the boy's words about blood status. She might not be that offended by that, but Lydia certainly would be, and she'd be even more offended about his jeers about teaching her some manners. Say what you would about Lydia, she certainly subscribed to the idea that blood was thicker than water. She would always stand up for her brothers and her cousins to others, even if she didn't even like them that much. "Oh, a half-blood presumes to say that?" Lydia said, pleasantly, giving the boy a chance to try to walk it back. She glanced at Anastasia and raised an eyebrow, which told Anastasia that Lydia would probably be writing home about this. She supposed that was alright. After all, other than the running away from Lydia, she had behaved in a perfectly proper, Beckett like way. She knew her parents would be irritated about her running away, but they would also be proud about her insistence that she was superior based on blood.

"And, no, I don't have to respect my elders simply because they are older than me. If they earn my respect, then yes, but you certainly haven't," Anastasia added smugly when Darci pulled out her wand. She rather liked this girl's spunk, although the family drama in public was certainly improper. After the boy left, she sat back down on the bench and smiled at the other girl before remembering Lydia was still there. "Anastasia, really, come back to my compartment. I promised both of our parents that I'd keep an eye on you on the way to Hogwarts, Lydia told her.

Darci sighed in relief onc her brother had returned to his compartment. “To close, to close for comfort.” She sat back down, looking between Ana and someone that she assumed was a family member of hers. “Pardon my intrusion, but I do believe that Anastasia will be alright if she stays here until we reach the school. If you’d like I could make sure that she meets up with you before she disembarks the train?” Darci’s eyes grew wide, She’s never been one to talk with a proper tone. She quickly looked down at her shoes. “I-if not, s-sorry I bothered.” She knew she was out of place to speak on Ana’s behalf, but she didn’t want to loose her first and possibly only friend before she even gets to the school.

Darci knew that Ana’s family member had heard her but chose to ignore her. “Anastasia I need you to come back with me. The air in here is quite filthy. You need to be with more of your kind.More of your kind? Aren’t all witches and wizards the same kind? Their blood status shouldn’t matter. Nothing like that should matter when you’re making friends. Darci looked up at the girl still standing in the doorway. She had an angry expression on her face. Darci wanted badly to yell at the young lady. How dare she, Anastasia has the right to make friends and be with whoever she wishes. Darci knew better than to speak out so she but her tongue waiting for Anastasia to sort it out like Darci did with her brother.

Anastasia shot a slightly annoyed glance at the girl. Little did she know, she had just squashed all chance of Anastasia being able to stay there. If Anastasia had been the one to talk, she could have framed it in such a way that Lydia would have thought that this was really in both of their best interests. She could have made it sound as though she was just doing a bit of learning about those who weren't Purebloods and like she wasn't really trying to make friends. Not that that was necessarily true, but if Lydia thought it was, then she would have left them alone and probably not even mentioned it to Anastasia's parents. Now, if she insisted on staying, Lydia would think that this 'inferior' witch was a bad influence on her and certainly not allowed it. She was also a bit irritated that Darci had implied that Anastasia would need her supervision to get back to Lydia. She knew it was probably just for Lydia's benefit, but knowing Lydia, she was highly offended at the idea that any Halfblood would have any authority over any Pureblood, much less her own cousin.

"If it really means that much to you, of course, I'll come, dear cousin," Anastasia said in her sweetest, most innocent sounding voice. "Goodbye, Darci. She knew that her words to Darci sounded a bit stiff, so she waved a little as she exited the cabin, hoping Darci would know that she didn't really want to leave. She followed Lydia back to her cabin at the end of car, the whole time with Lydia hissing in her ear about associating with inferior blood. Anastasia sat down when they reached the cabin and pulled out her book her mother had sent for the trip. It was some boring, probably rather stuffy tome about the importance of blood purity. She didn't exactly fancy it, but a book was a book. She began the first chapter as the train sped towards Hogwarts.

I way overstepped. How could I have been such an idiot. Darci glares at herself while she disembarked the train once they reached the school. Knowing that she might not have an opportunity to make it up, she just sighed as all of the first years entered the great hall awaiting to be ruled to get sorted. How could I be so daft to have said something like that to a pureblood.

WHITMAN, DARCI.” Her head snapped up and out of her thoughts when her name was called. Walking up to the front, I could hear a few first years snicker. Shyly Darci took her seat waiting for the hat. Once placed on her head she heard it begin to speak.

Hmmmm. Another Whitman. It’s clear to see that you wish to be like the rest of your family yes? Yes, very much so. I’d like to nit be a disappointment for them. The sorting hat chuckled. A disappointment you shall not be, for you are kindhearted and brave, a bit foolish, but curious none the less. The best house for you isn’t the one you seek, but GRIFFENDOR!!

Darci was horrified, and it showed. She couldn’t believe it. The cheers from said house table only confermed the horrible nightmare was true. How the bloody hell did this happen? It’s a mistake. None the less, Darci approached the table and sat down, gaining a few smiles and pats on the back.

When Anastasia got off the train, she looked around a bit for the girl from earlier, but couldn't find her anywhere in the ocean of people. She sighed and moved in the direction that all the other first years were being herded.

Beckett, Anastasia

Anastasia started a bit at the sound of her name. She inhaled sharply, then walked confidently through the crowd of other unsorted first years. She made her way up to the stool and sat. She couldn't wait to be sorted into Slytherin, just like generations of Becketts before her. She bit her lip as the hat was placed on her head. She was already beginning to compose her letter to her parents. Dear Mum and Dad... No, that wouldn't work. It was a bit informal for her parents, whom she never addressed as anything other than Mother and father
Ah, I was wondering when I'd get another Beckettthe Hat said, startling Anastasia out of her mental letter composing.I must say, you're different than the other Becketts I've sortedDifferent? How?Really, I could justify placing you in any of the Houses. She was already beginning to panic a tad due to the fact that she hadn't been declared a Slytherin as the Hat touched her head, but at hearing that, her face whitened and her hands began to tremble. See, right there. Your loyalty is very Hufflepuff, but then your dedication to your plan is rather Ravenclaw Absolutely not, she would positively leave if she was placed in Hufflepuff. Well, alright then. But you see, that stubbornness makes me think Gryffindor. She could see people beginning to talk. She couldn't guess how long she'd had the hat on, but it was clear that it had been a bit. Hurry up and bloody put me in Slytherin, she thought indignantly. Well, maybe not Ravenclaw then, seeing as a Ravenclaw would be a wee bit more polite to something that makes a life forming choice No, Ravenclaw wasn't quite for her, even though it was her second choice house to Slytherin. But she so desperately wanted Slytherin. You really are different from the other Becketts She was didn't want to be different! Her irritation at the stupid hat as the time ticked by mounted. Stupid hat? I rather resent that. She sighed and rolled her eyes a bit. I must say, I don't think Slytherin would be a fit for you, young one. Slytherin not a fit? She wanted to tell the Hat exactly what she thought of that, in terms that her mother certainly wouldn't approve of. My, the tongue on you. Yes, I know what house would be a perfect fit for you. Might even get you to unwind a tad. Yes, better be

Gryffindor!

WHAT?!? Gryffindor? Of all the houses, that was almost worse than ending up in Hufflepuff. She knew her parents would hate it more than anything. Standing, she smiled weakly, her face still a bit pale. Whoever it was who took off the Hat nudged her forward and whispered, "That was nearly a Hatstall, little Beckett. I must say, not what any of us were expecting." Nodding numbly, she walked down the stairs and began to slowly walk towards the garish red and gold table. How could this have happened? No matter, she had to make it look like this was exactly what she had wanted to happen. Play the hand she was dealt as the saying went. She smiled a bit wider as she reached the table and sat.

When Darci heard Ana’s name being called, she smiled softly. Ana was sure to get into Slytherin, no doubt stout it. Zoning out a bit she didn’t hear the final discision until her table eroupted into cheers. Her eyes grew wide. How? Yet another promising Snake turn Lion. What is that hat even thinking?

Darci had a frown on her face and the third year sitting next to her noticed it and began to speak to her. “Lighten up, first year. It’s only a sorting, besides the Hat always knows what’s best.” Darci glared towards the boy. “Like hell it does. It doesn’t know a thing about anyone, besides who told it that it could sort us into different houses. I’m not a Lion, I’m a Snake and that’s where I should be.” The boy glared back, but didn’t say anything to her the rest of the night. Her expression softened when she realized that she might have hurt the student’s feelings. Bloody hell D, you’re new and you’re already messing up. Way to go.

Looking up, Darci briefly met eyes with Anastasia, offering her a simpsthedic smile, knowing how she felt. She couldn’t vocalize her feelings as Ana walked further down the table towards an open set made for her. Darci prayed that they’d have a chance to speak to one another soon.

Anastasia was a bit zoned out. She had dreamed of this days for practically her entire life, how could it have gone so, so wrong? She was supposed to get sorted into Slytherin, like her cousins, like her parents, like literally every Beckett before her. She suddenly remembered her cousin on her mother's side who had be sorted into Hufflpuff. Her parents had put up with it for a while before disowning her after her fourth year because she had become more like the house she had been placed in. Would her parents do the same? She felt sick to her stomach and rather wanted to cry. She didn't even touch her food, she felt so ill. At the end of the meal, she numbly followed the Gryffindor Prefects to the Common Room. She still felt ill, but managed to have some fun at the obligatory Sorting party. She wondered what had ever happened to the girl on the train - she had been so focused on herself the whole sorting that she had no idea what House that girl might have ended up in. After the party died down, she headed up to her room and tried to get some sleep.

Early the next morning, she made her way down to the Common Room and tried to work on her letter home. What ever would she tell her parents?

Darci woke up in a good mood. Everything was fine until it all hit her at once. I’m at Hotwarts, YAYY! BUT IM A GRYFFINDOR!!!!!! 😭😭 Deciding to not dwell on the past she planned to make this a good day. A good year. It was going to be hard but she knew she was going to have to make the best of being a Lion even if she didn’t exactly want to.

After making her bed, Darci made her way downstairs into the common room with her quill and paper. Now’s a good a time as any to begin writing my letter to Dad.Taking her seat on the couch in front of the fireplace Darci began to write but not until she noticed Anastasia in the armchair next to her. “Good morning Ana. How did you sleep?” Darci attempted to make conversation with her ‘hopefully’ friend and dormmate, Anastasia Beckett. Who just so happened to be a pureblood. Scribbling down things on her paper, Darci’s mind began to drift as she drew a mirror with some kind of ice and mist reflected in it. There was also a person inside of the ice but the picture was shadowed so no one could really make out the face. While zoning, Darci went into a hypnotic state as her eyes turned glassy when her pen just began to sketch out an extremely detailed drawling.
