Morning Among the Owls
Date: January 30th, 2023
Mentioning @Anna Blackrose and @Ruby CazaresDora grips the letter tight in hand as she ascends the stairs to the Owlery. It's a cloudy, chilly morning, hopefully not too much for the owls. The tower is cozy, though, so they should be alright. Every Monday morning, she's stressed for a while. From the moment she seals the letter to a few hours after she posts it, and then she can finally distract herself from worrying over if she wrote the right words. It's been better, at least. Since break, her letters to her grandmother have been fairly cordial. Since Ruby agreed to tutor her, Dora's grandmother has seemed pleased. Like, Dora's finally doing what she's supposed to.
She enters the tower and strolls over to the perch where she finds a school owl. The Great Horned owl is just finishing off a vole or some other small rodent, dropping the bones on the floor. Dora gives him a nod, and hands him the letter as always. The owl takes it and takes off, the routine a familiar one.
He left a few of his feathers behind. Dora picks one up, brushing her finger over the softness and admiring the pattern. Getting an idea, she pulls out her new journal and tucks the small feather between its pages.

Morning Among the Owls
Anna yawned as she climbed the stairs up to the owlery. It was a chilly morning and even though she was used to getting up early, these kind of mornings are the best to sleep in. Alas it was Monday and she had classes, but before that she wanted to send a letter she forgot about last night. Walking into the owlery she noticed a girl with long black hair holding a book.' ' - thinking
" " - speaking
“Good morning”, Anna noticed the Hufflepuff colors on her robes. “Oh, you climbed up really high and this early in the morning. The letter must’ve been an important one”, she gave a sleepy smile. The wind spiked up a little and hit Anna straight in the face, she shivered. ‘That’s one way to wake up’, she shook her head. Whistling a sharp tune she outstretched her arm. A beautiful brown barn owl shook her feathers out and landed on her arm. These two created a little bond, so much so that Anna sometimes brought treats for her. “Sorry no treats today”, she stroked the owls back, and in returned the owl clicked with her beak. Anna pulled out her purple ribbon and tied the letter to the owl. “You know where to go”, the owl screeched and flew out. Anna still sleepy watched after it.

“Good morning. Oh, you climbed up really high and this early in the morning. The letter must’ve been an important one.”
The presence of another student has Dora immediately straightening her spine and neutralizing her features. Turning around, she sees a young, dark-haired witch in Ravenclaw colors. She's vaguely familiar, Dora probably having seen her around in the halls or maybe in one of her classes. Then again, she may be mistaken. Either way, it doesn't much matter. She doesn't know this girl, and this is just an encounter between strangers. So, she offers her a polite nod, answering her question in little words. "No, just a routine one."
A gust of cold wind blows in, though it's not too bad when wearing robes. She hopes it isn't too cold for the other girl. Sneaking a glance, she watches her fasten a letter to an owl and send it off. Dora hasn't seen many people come up here this early. She likes to get the task out of the way every Monday morning, but a lot of other students mail their letters later. Thinking back to the girl's comment, she wonders briefly if her letter is an important one.
Oh well, that's all with that. She turns back to pick up her journal where she set it, and stops. It's gone! Her eyes widen, starting to panic as she looks around. She's sure she set it right there on the ledge!
"Where is it...?" She mutters worriedly.

I know our colors are similar, so I just want to clarify that the bit at the top is what Anna said before!

Morning Among the Owls
The girl seemed a bit closed off as she replied in a short but polite sentence. Anna knew that some people do not make friends easily or like talking with strangers, but she still wasn’t really used to that. Deciding not to push the girl, she turned to leave. As she turned around one of the owls swooped down and then up again almost smacking Anna in the face with it’s wing. Making a surprised face she took a few steps back, almost bumping into the girl who was now looking for something, worry etched on her face.
Anna stepped away not wanting to frighten the girl and looked up to the owl that surprised her. Next to the owl she saw a corner of a book, it looked quite similar to the book the girl was holding when she came into the owlery. “Hey, what are you looking for?”, Anna asked keeping an eye on the owl in case it decides to take off again. If that really is the girl’s book it’s going to be a challenge to take it from so high up. Anna thought about all the spells she learned so far, and unfortunately she hadn’t learned any that would help her now.

Interacting with @Anna Blackrose"No, no, no, no..." Dora says under her breath as she looks around for her journal. It was right there!
'What if it fell out the window??' She suddenly thinks, afraid she may have lost her uncle's gift. How could she be so careless?
On the verge of tears, she steps back and bumps into someone, startled because she'd forgotten about the other girl. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to-" She apologizes, her throat hitching halfway through. Her hand goes to cover her mouth in embarrassment, and she turns away. She shouldn't make such a scene...
“Hey, what are you looking for?” The girl asks, and Dora shakes her head. "No, I- I mean, it..." She stumbles over her words, failing to express herself adequately. Why is she so overcome by this? It shouldn't be that big a deal! But she feels so bad for losing it, it hurts.
But... maybe this girl can help? Dora knows it's presumptuous to ask, and she doesn't want to be a bother, but she's so desperate to find her journal. Before she can change her mind, she quickly says, "I'm looking for my journal. I left it right over there, and now it's gone. Please, have you seen it?"
Dora really hopes that she has.

Morning Among the Owls
The girl seemed really distraught and she even slightly bumped into Anna. She kept apologizing, stumbling over her words and tearing up. Anna was pained to see the girl like this. They may have only met, but Anna hated seeing people in pain.
When the girl confirmed that she was looking for her journal Anna slowly put her hand on her shoulder, giving a little squeeze, to ground and comfort the girl. In a soft voice she said: “Hey it’s okay. Your journal is up there”. Anna pointed up to the beam the owl was on, which was now making itself comfortable getting ready to sleep. The nerve of that one. “Do you know any spells that could get your journal back, without hurting the owl? It did take your journal, but I’m sure it wasn’t to cause you harm”, Anna rubbed the girls shoulder soothingly. ‘That journal must mean a lot to her’, Anna thought, ‘I think I’d feel the same way if I lost my parents book’.
Anna looked around, trying to figure out another way to get the journal back. She spotted a broom in the corner. ‘That would get the journal back, but possibly anger the owls too. I hope she knows the right spells’.

Interacting with @Anna BlackroseDora feels a hand squeeze her shoulder, and she's a little put off by it. She's just not used to all that physical touchy feely stuff. But, she knows it's meant to be comforting, so she doesn't recoil. She just stops moving as the girl tries to soothe her.
“Hey it’s okay. Your journal is up there."
"What?" Dora's eyes dart up and widen when she sees it. That owl stole her journal! It's nesting now, but really high up and out of reach.
“Do you know any spells that could get your journal back, without hurting the owl? It did take your journal, but I’m sure it wasn’t to cause you harm.”
She nods, not feeling that annoyed at the owl. It doesn't know any better, after all. Still, Dora's not quite sure what to do. She thinks over the spells she's learned this year, and one comes to mind. "Maybe.. the Levitating Charm will work?" She says to herself mostly. But, what if she messes it up?
She pulls out her wand and takes a deep breath. 'Just... concentrate. Like Professor Fresnel said in class.'
"Wingardium Leviosa!"
Dora tries to keep her focus on the book, gently levitating it out of the nest. The owl seems a little irritated, but doesn't try to hold onto it. 'Just lower it down slowly...'
Not wanting to, Dora suddenly envisions the journal falling, or being taken away again. She loses her grip on the spell and the journal is falling. "No!"

Anna smiled when the girl mumbled the levitation charm. “That could work”, she let go of her shoulder and took a few steps back allowing the girl space to preform the spell. ‘I should really ask for her name’, Anna thought as the girl prepared herself for the spell. Taking a deep breath she concentrated and said the incantation. The journal slowly made it’s way out of the nest, the owl shuffling a bit and then settling again, ‘What was the point in taking it then?’ .Anna was slightly annoyed at the owl, but she smiled as the journal was now descending. In the next moment the girl shrieked no, and the journal plummeted to the ground.
Anna leaped and tried to catch it. The hardcover book hitting her outstretched fingers harshly. “Ouch!”, she recoiled her hands and the journal landed on a surprisingly clean spot of the floor. Cradling her fingers Anna looked apologetic. “I’m sorry, I tried to catch it”, she quickly picked the journal up and held it towards the girl. Some of the pages were bent because of the fall. “I can reparo it if you want? I’m good at that spell”, she asked as she handed the journal back to it’s owner. She hoped there wasn’t any permanent damage to it.

Interacting with @Anna BlackroseTo Dora's surprise, the girl moves to catch her falling book. She nearly does, too, but it hits her fingers awkwardly. “Ouch!” She shouts, Dora wincing in sympathy and sucking in a breath as the journal falls onto the floor, open and pages on the ground. "I'm sorry, are you alright?" She asks quickly, hoping the girl isn't badly hurt because of her. She seems to be okay, thank goodness.
Her mood sinks when she turns back to her book, seeing the owl droppings all around. She's almost too anxious to see what the damage is. The girl picks it up for her, handing it over.
“I’m sorry, I tried to catch it.”
"Thank you." Dora says, maybe not sounding as appreciative as she really is. She dusts off the dirt, which doesn't stain the pages. The worst damage is how bent some of the pages are. It hurts seeing something new made such a mess of. 'Not as bad as it could've been, though...' She thinks glumly.
“I can reparo it if you want? I’m good at that spell.”
"It's alright. I'm sure I can manage." She could also cast the Mending Charm. She's used it before on a torn dress. But part of her thinks she doesn't deserve to fix it. Leave the bent pages as a reminder not to be so careless next time.
It's time she leaves, but before she does, she turns and thanks the girl again. "Thank you. What is your name? Mine is Isadora Everridge." She introduces herself properly, thinking it the least she can do.

Morning Among the Owls

As the girl took back her journal she thanked Anna a few times and asked if she was alright. “Yeah, I’m alright. It’s not that bad”, Anna nodded and cradled her fingers again. It didn’t hurt that much, just stinging a bit. Then the girl introduced herself as Isadora, and Anna smiled introducing herself as well. “My name is Anna Blackrose. It is nice to meet you, and I hope for some nicer encounters”, she giggled a bit. Isadora turned to leave and as she closed the door to the owlery Anna sighed a bit and went back to looking out the window.
‘It seems as she is a nice girl’, Anna thought, ‘although she seems troubled by something’. Overlooking the beautiful plains basked in the morning sun Anna went through the whole encounter, which was really an interesting one. At first Isadora seemed closed off, and unapproachable. But later she showed a great deal of powerful emotions and care. ‘It seems she’s a caring person, you just need to get to know her better’. Anna smiled once more, then she too left the owlery, taking one last look at the scenery. She had to get to class, and she hated being late so she rushed down the stairs excited for her next lesson.
