Sorting Ceremony Sept 2022

It was a year after Danielle's acceptance letter had been recieved. Today was September 1st, 2022, and the very first thing she had to do at Hogwarts was attend the sorting. Danielle stood among the other students, waiting for her name to be called. She didn't have to wait long, since "Emberwood" was near the beginning of the alphabet.
"EMBERWOOD, DANIELLE!"
She stepped forward and sat on the stool, and a droopy brown wizards' hat was placed on her head. Almost immediately, the hat began to whisper.
"Ah, an Emberwood," it mused. "I remember your brothers, sorted last year. Both Slytherins, were they not? Slytherin would be a good fit for you too..."
Yes, give me Slytherin," she thought. All her family had been Slytherins, so she had to be Slytherin, too, right?
"But Ravenclaw... you are imaginative... very wise, as well.... creative... I know!"
Please Slytherin Please Slytherin, Danielle clenched her fists. Imagine the embarrasment being the family's only Ravenclaw!
"RAVENCLAW!" the hat proclaimed to the entire hall. The blue table burst into applause, but Danielle wasn't feeling it.
She walked over to the Ravenclaw table and sat down at an empty seat, glancing at the Slytherin table, where her two brothers sat, staring at her with a confused look on their faces, obviously wondering how the hell did Danielle land herself in Ravenclaw.

It was finally time for her to go on her way to Hogwarts. She made certain that she got all her belongings she would need for her first year of Hogwarts. She double-check all the books, supplies, and made her name tags to all her clothing she would bring with her. She crafted an unique iron press and seal tags for her attire. She asked her parents to do a charm or something for a more permanent sticker. She hoped they did as they were busy with their respectful careers. She had hoped her father could go out and get her an owl or something.

She was saddened by not having a pet to join her on the long journey through her school year. She loved all types of animals and wouldn't mind a cat if she couldn't have an owl. She knew her parents were busy, however she had been hopefully all the same.

She checked her trunk the night beforehand and other two times prior to going to King's Cross station. It was strange that a train would be taking her to school. It was what it was as she said her final farewells with her parents. Her brother was already going back to his overseas school though she wished he could be going with her to Hogwarts.

She couldn't remember much of the train ride as nerves overacted within herself. She didn't even seem to be focusing on the last trip to get to the school. She just remembered being breathless at the castle the school was located in.

Soon she was faced with the Headmaster and the Heads of the Houses. She reminded herself she was about to see her childhood friend who was a year above her. She blushed in memories before feeling like eyes were on her. She prayed she was in the house her friend was in and her father was in: Gryffindor.

Her mother didn't count as she had gone to Mahoutokoro. She was born and raised in South Korea. It was why Roxette knew more than English and she dared say she was fluent in Korean. She was sure her parents agreed with her.

She was nervous. She thought what if she didn't get into Hogwarts. It was possible being the second generation going to the famed school as her father was a muggleborn with muggle parents. She tried hard not to start her clicking, running her tongue on her teeth to sound it. She clenched her lips, counting to ten, as the first years were called inside.

They stood up close to where the Sorting Hat was laid. It started to sing which got her to flinch slightly, however she knew it was sentinel. Her father informed her of this little fact. She clapped politely at the end of the song although it was hard to form words to her other first year peers as her nerves active up.

She had to go into Gryffindor. She just had to ask she tried to spot her childhood friend at the four long tables. She noticed the different colored outfits and tables, which meant each House had their own table. The staff was sitting behind where each new student was called to the Sorting Hat. She heard all the houses and tried to concentrate on each name being announced.

They passed the 'A', 'B', 'C', and she realized she didn't hear the others as they were now on 'G' surnames. 'H' was next as Hartmore was going to be called shortly; as far as she knew she was the only Hartmore around.

"HARTMORE, ROXETTE!"

That was her!

She took a deep breath and squared herself, braving the curious eyes of the above classes and teachers. She took her seat with the Hat lowered on her head.

"Hmmm… let's see what you are made out of."

"Hello Mr. Sorting Hat!

"Greetings Miss Hartmore. Polite, I see."

"And nervous, and anxious."

"Not to worry."

"Okay.

"Brave. Brave to face foes with her friends, yet your mind is pretty good too. Interesting. Interesting. Your friends are your center, you would stand by them. No matter what. Brave, loyal, and smart." The Sorting Hat murmured.

"So, Gryffindor?" she thought to it curiously.

"Gryffindor, hmmm, there is enough courage yet your friends are the core to that bravery. Very forgiving of your friends."

"Please! Gryffindor!

"Hmmm, nope, you're faithful and true! A…"

A?[

"A HUFFLEPUFF!"

"You're kidding!" she told the Hat yet it had done its job and remained silent. She realized as the Hat was removed that it had been announced for everybody. She stood up and looked over to the table applauding.

She smiled at them, quickly walking over to the Hufflepuffs. At least, they were friendly and she heard they were an united force when it really matters.

Sorting Ceremony Sept 2022
Addie's heart was still beating like a drum from the electrifying boat ride to the castle. It hadn't been her first time on a boat, but it had certainly been one of the scarier ones. Hogwarts' reputation for the danger it put on the shoulders of its students in past years wasn't exactly a secret. While it was certainly safer in the years since the Dark Lord's end, the reputation still followed in her family. As a result, she certainly hadn't been confident in her safety along the lake.

Addie wordlessly allowed herself to be corralled with the other first years along the grounds and into the castle. She couldn't wait to explore the grounds in the daylight, but even under the night sky, the castle was quite glorious.

The next several minutes were a blur as Adeline entered the Great Hall, hardly noticing the older man at the entrance. Unexpectedly, she was beginning to feel just a bit homesick. She'd been on long trips across Europe throughout her whole life, but she was going to be at Hogwarts for an entire year. It was so overwhelming.

She jumped slightly at the loud sound of the door closing behind the first years, watching in confusion as the old man walked to the front of the Great Hall. Her eyes wanted to explore the rest of the room, including the older students already sitting at their tables, but she forced herself to watch the old man who seemed to silently demand her attention.

To her surprise, he was the headmaster.

His introduction of the Sorting Hat and the four houses was no surprise to Addie. She'd read a bit of her copy of Hogwarts, A History at her parents' insistence, so she knew about the four houses and the basics of the founders of each of them. Still, she hung on Headmaster Lear's every word eagerly. This was it.

After the Sorting Hat's song, students began to get sorted into their own houses. It was very interesting to watch. On the first few students, most of the first years were quiet, carefully watching so that they would know what to expect. As more and more students finished their sortings, the atmosphere in their group became less and less tense.

Finally, after what felt like forever and too soon at the same time, her own name was called.

"Müssinger, Adeline."

She stepped up to the stool with practiced poise and sat patiently as she waited for the hat to be lowered onto her head. She wondered if her parents would have allowed her to come to Hogwarts if they'd known she'd be forced to wear such an old, ragged hat.

It wasn't surprising when she heard the hat's voice in her head.

"Hmm," the hat mused thoughtfully. "Not an easy one. Cunning, yes. Intelligent, even."

Adeline didn't dare respond verbally or mentally, if she even could respond. She was afraid she might disrupt the process if she interrupted the Hat's work.

"But that's not really you, now, is it? You care little for riddles or schemes. You're brave, yes, but we both know where your strengths lie."

"I just want some friends," she muttered, unsure if she was speaking allowed or merely thinking. She had the feeling the hat would hear her anyway.

"Yes," it said with a sense of finality. "You must belong in Hufflepuff!"

As the name of the house was announced loudly and the Sorting Hat was removed from her head, Adeline rose from the seat, nearly stumbling. Having the Hat inside her head and then torn away had felt strange.

Since her mind was completely overwhelmed at this point, her feet led her absentmindedly to the sea of yellow and black, recognizing the colors with ease. She sat in one of the extra seats near some of the other first year Hufflepuff students.

"They're like me," she whispered to herself and allowed herself a small smile. She was a Hufflepuff. She belonged somewhere.

She spent the rest of the sorting ceremony watching those around her and cheering more loudly than her family had ever allowed every time another student was sorted into Hufflepuff. It was going to be a good night.

He had gotten off the train and was entering Hogwarts for the first time ever and he was quite nervous to start out but when he was walking around trying to get to the Great Hall it gave him time to think and see thing's so it wasn't so bad after all. Raven walked into the Great Hall waiting patiently to hear his name being called for the Sorting Ceremony. He was thinking about whether or not he would be good enough for the house whatever that may be at the time. It seemed like it was taking forever to get to his name and it gave him some time to think it over in his head and where he think he may belong to it was between Gryffindor and Slytherin he was bold and he was ambitious. They finally call Raven up to the Sorting Hat and he walks his way up to the hat and has confidence within himself for the first time in a long time. The hat says "You are a bit bold and you are brave, you must be in.... GRYFFINDOR!" Raven got up from the Sorting Hat's seat and started to make way towards the Gryffindor Table with a smile on his face and seeing new faces and going new places he would soon be where he wanted to be.

Moonwatcher was trembling with fear. She didn’t much like people, and so many of them were looking at her and the other new kids. She was small, and she liked that fact about her, because it helped her blend in. One by one the other kids were called up. Finally, “SHAPESINGER, MOONWATCHER!” was called. She walked up the the stool, and put the hat on her head. Almost immediately the hat yelled “GRYFFINDOR!” She took the hat off, put it back on the stool, and walked over to the Gryffindor table, sitting at the very edge.

With a smirk on her face and her head held high like the pureblood she was. She walked in long steps and fell in line with the other first year students in the small hall. As she stood there waiting to be let into the great hall she looked around and took in the magical air that seemed to breathe new life into her. Her eyes first caught sight of the worn looking fireplace with worn white marble as the metal that looked to be taller than my father almost. Octavia watched and tried to remember the way that the enchanted logs popped and cracked as the fire ate at them before they restored themselves.

Her eyes shifted to the walls that was a red brick lined in enchanted pictures. A lot of the photo's where chatting with some of the first years or waving at them or standing still to give a few frights to the new students. With a roll of her eyes Octavia walked passed a photo that jumped in their frame to scare her. Octavia looked up having read something about a chandler in the small hall that was as old as the castle its self. When her eyes landed on the wooden work of art that was just above the fireplace. "Thank Merlin for magic" Octavia thought with a smirk as she saw the dangerous placement. The chandler was not much just a simple big circle with candles on the ring. With a solid nod her eyes moved to the right of the fireplace, and there sat a pair of large, wooden alder doors, which she could only guess would lead into the Great Hall.

After a while her and the many many other first year students were lead by a teacher into the Great Hall to be sorted. As she waited in line she once again took in her surrounds. She looked at the four long tables that seated the older students. The bewitched ceiling that floated above her. The towering walls that held up the fake night sky. The walls yet again lined with moving and chatting photos, some from the small hall seemed to have moved to watch the sorting. I looked to the ceiling to see hundreds of candles, one for every single student that is in this hall.

After the last first year was in the hall the large alder doors shut with the help of magic. And the headmaster walked to the front of the hall. His armor and tall frame made Octavia feel small yet safe in a way. "Welcome first year students. I am Solomon Lear, Headmaster of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. As it is our tradition here we are going to engage in our first ceremony known as the sorting ceremony. The sorting hat has been a part of our school's tradition since the time of Godric Gryffindor, one of this institution's founding wizards. This hat is very much sentient." She stopped her eyes from looking around the room anymore to look at the headmaster as he spoke. But before he could continue a voice rang out from somewhere unseen. "Sentient, I am intelligent." The words echoed and carried around the room. The students all looked at the table behind the Headmaster and saw that known of the other professors had spoken a word. "If anything they look annoyed." She thought with a deadpan look as one of the professors rolled their eyes at the voice. After a few seconds of looking she spotted the hat in the hands of one of the professors. The Headmaster let out a bit of a cough, while side eyeing the hat. "Ah yes, the intelligent" He said before muttering something to the hat before looking back at the crowed of children looking up at him.

"Sorting Hat will be placed upon your head. It won't hurt one bit. The Sorting Hat will look into your heart and mind and determine the best place for you: Gryffindor, Slytherin, Ravenclaw, and Hufflepuff. As most of you must know, each of those houses possesses their own characteristic, their own values and their own Head of House." He would gesture towards the present four Heads of House, they never seemed to last very long as of late."Professor Marcus Iwasaki of House Ravenclaw," he gestured towards a rather handsome young man . "And the ladies," he motioned towards three women "Professor Elaine Pendrast of House Gryffindor," a woman with dark hair and usually a serious expression "Professor Hjørdis Jensen of House Slytherin" a woman with a neutral expression and shocking white hair, "Professor Magdalena Wickham-Deakin of House Hufflepuff" a woman approaching middle-age with vibrant red-hair. "The house that will be chosen for you shall represent qualities that are truly present within each of you. Your future house shall be like a second family. You will also be able to gather points and once we reach the end of the year, the house with the most house points shall win the House Championship Cup. What you need to know is the Sorting Hat is never wrong, once you are sorted your House will not change for the duration of your time in Hogwarts."

After that being said and us getting a good look at all the head of houses the Headmaster pulled a scroll out of his armor and unrolled it. Octavia sweat-dropped at the length of the parchment . "I might turn 12 before they even call my name." She thought as they placed the sorting hat on a stool and started moving and singing. I read about this, the hat sings a new song each year I wonder what it will say this year.

" A thousand years or more ago
When I was newly sewn,
There lived four wizards of
Whose names are still well known:

Bold Gryffindor, from wild moor,
Fair Ravenclaw, from glen,
Sweet Hufflepuff, from valley broad,
Shrewd Slytherin, from fen.

For were their such friends anywhere
As Slytherin and Gryffindor.
Unless it was the second pair
Of Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw.

United by a common goal,
They had the selfsame yearning
To make the world's best magic school
And pass along their learning.

Now each of these four founders
Formed their own house, for each
Did value different virtues
In the ones, they had to teach.

While still alive they did divide
Their favorites from the throng,
Yet how to pick the worthy ones
When were they dead and gone?

Twas Gryffindor who found the way,
He whipped me off his head
The founders put some brains in me
So I could choose instead!

Now slip me snug about your ears,
I've never yet been wrong,
I'll have a look inside your mind
And tell where you belong!

You might belong in Gryffindor,
Where dwell the brave at heart,
Their daring, nerve, and chivalry
Set Gryffindors apart;

You might belong in Hufflepuff,
Where they are just and loyal,
Those patient Hufflepuffs are true
And unafraid of toil;

Or yet in wise old Ravenclaw,
If you've got a ready mind,
Where those of wit and learning,
Will always find their kind;

Or perhaps in Slytherin
You'll make your real friends,
Those cunning folks use any means
To achieve their ends. "

After clapping for the hat's song the headmaster begin listing off names to be sorted. Octavia wasn't nerves at all. She was just, for a lack of a better word: chilling. She didn't really care much of what house she got but she did know the basics of her personality could place her in either Ravenclaw or Slytherin. Both amazing houses to be in for her.

After what felt like around an hour her name was finally called:
OCTAVIA! MORRIS!

With her head held high she walked up to the stool and sat down with not one drop of nerves in her blood. She nodded towards the headmaster out of respect and felt the hat be placed on top of her head and her vision got dark as she was too small for the hat to fit her head. Not even a second of her sight being taken from her, she heard a voice speaking directly into her mind. "Ah... Miss Morris..I remember your parents when they sat to get sorted... Yes you are like a mixed mirror of your parents. Ambition and cunning nature from your mother that I am sure of and resourcefulness and determination from your father.. I know right where to place you must be..."

SLYTHERIN!!

With a smile she jumped off the stool and calmly walked to the Slytherin table where they clapped and opened up a spot for her to sit with the older students.

Meris nervously smoothed her new black robe as she walked into the great hall. A stool sits just ahead and on that, slightly off center sits a ratty old wizard hat. She almost giggles as her thoughts wander to the pumpkin which she carved last Halloween. It had a striking similarity.

Someone says, "Barovar, Meris!"

Meris looks up slightly at the person calling her name, then steps forward, slowly...
step
step
step
step
step
...an eternity passes.
She reaches the stool.

The hat is lifted up and she sits cautiously on the stool, hoping it doesn't break underneath her. To her great relief, it does not collapse. The hat now placed on her head. It smells like an old frock that's sat in the back of the closet to long. Meris wrinkles her nose as it wiggles on top of her head.

It is now that the ripped seam in the hat opens, letting a sound come forth that sounds a bit like a grunt. The stool scrapes the floor as she shifts her body nervously.

"Hmm, first of your line. I see a strength in you, a desire to be better than you are. There's no doubt about it... Gryffindor!"

Her head is relieved of the hat, and she pauses, bravely looking up to see the innards of the Sorting Hat. It's just as ratty on the inside as the outside. Some interesting patchwork to be sure. Finally, Meris rises and walks briskly toward the Gryffindor table and enjoys the loud welcoming cheer as she takes her seat.

Linnea stepped up quietly, wishing she was still wearing her hood so she could hide from the crowd. Thousands of thoughts warred in her head at once. She winced at the crowd's loud hooting and cheering from the last person sorted. She thought as she walked, weighing the pros and cons of each house, remembering the descriptions from Hogwarts: A History. She sat on the stool: cold, unfeeling wood. She felt the weight of the rough burlap hat as it whispered in her ear: Interesting, very interesting. I see. Quite hard to pick a house for this one. I see you've got a ready mind, plenty of ambition, and a fair amount of bravery. Ooh, looks like there's some kindness in there too. The hat fell silent. It seemed to shift on Linnea's head as it deliberated. Linnea covered her eyes, bracing for the worst, and the hat seemed to make up its mind and descisively declared, RAVENCLAW! Linnea stepped down the platform and walked towards the table of Ravenclaw, where a healthy amount of cheering greeted her. She thought, Huh. Ravenclaw is supposed to be a smart house, and I guess i'm smart. I'm glad I wasn't in Slytherin, though.

Venturin Ladden stood with the other students. He looked with great surprise at the floating candles and all the other things around. His eyes darted around at the other students, then back at the wonders. He felt eyes on him, though his natural confidence and pride foiled in, muting his worries and fears.

Names began to be called up, many different witches and wizards moved up to be sorted into their houses, I must be in Slytherin, I MUST Thought Venturin, his family pride hanged on his shoulders.

Ghosts flew past him with mild interest, some of them scaring a couple of the other students. If he'd only wait a little longer, his turn would come... and then, all of what he has to hold with, would be brought out to show his best side, his superior side. Be much greater than the rest of the 'simple' folk in his opinion And be Slytherin Venturin was sure that he would be sorted correctly, that the hat would not make a mistake.

Hopefully...

Here it came his time to move up to the stool.. he moved up and sat down on the chair. The hat was put on his head.

A moment...

"Ah, such a contrary mind... deep, and with a deep deep future.... Gryffindor!

Venturin froze, he didn't feel his limbs as he moved towards the table of the brave...

No, NO!

Clark was ushered to the line- where he saw a woman that was older than he was- with red hair. He had to assume that she served some form of status at the school- and just as he thought, when the name was called- it was revealed that the woman was named Magdalena Wickham-Deakin- the Head of House of Hufflepuff.

He restlessly waited for the line to move so he could finally get sorted. Octavius was a Hufflepuff- and Joseph was a Gryffindor! Both sides have said that Slytherin was the worst House- and neither of his siblings even got into the snake themed house.

He could only hope that he wasn't to be put with a House with such a bad name.

The Part Goblin finally got his turn to wear such a brimmed hat. Maybe it wasn't huge to everyone else- but hell- for a Part Goblin? What in the world was this? The feeling coursed through him- but without spending eternity on his head- like some students- he was called by the Sorting Hat that he belonged in Hufflepuff.

Why was he not in Gryffindor? Simon and Ben weren't in Gryffindor? Why couldn't he follow in his dad's footsteps? UGH! Clark stomped off, angrily, taking a seat at the Hufflepuff table, and slamming his hands on the table as he got comfortable to turn and watch the other students. A few minutes would only pass before Clark smiled once again to appear delightful and cheer on those who get Hufflepuff.
