Bread, Jam, & Company: House Cup Party
Cecily continued looked around, searching for things to talk about. She sensed that Muriel looked ready to go back to the common room, but Cecily did not want her to leave. Who else would she talk to?Interactions: Muriel Carroll
Think. Think. Think, Cecily thought hurriedly to herself. Any question. Any. Anything at all.
Cecily did think of questions, but most of them didn't make sense to ask. Fortunately, Muriel asked her a question first. Cecily was relieved that Muriel wanted to talk to her more. She shook off her nervousness as she answered the question.
"Well, I'm not taking Care of Magical Creatures this year, I think only 3rd years are able to, but one of my favorite books is Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. My favorite magical beast ever is a Hippogriff. Someday, maybe someday, I hope to meet one. Maybe I'll meet one in a class! But anyway," Cecily paused, looking around again. "what about you?"

What... was this?
A party that celebrated the invention of tea, no doubt. Or at least that's what he judged from the name. As a prefect, it was his his duty to show up to these things. Or at least he assumed it was his duty. It was a ravenclaw party after all.
He walked in late, missing the professor's speech by a few seconds, leaving him more or less in the dark. It didn't really matter much, he had come more to say he did and less to actually participate. Finding a table off to the side, he moved towards it. He had not dressed up or changed his attire much for the party, grey scarf shifting about in the slightest breeze, dirty burned black hair sitting messily on top of a pale white face, hints of sickly grey making him look like he had just recovered, or come down with, some kind of horrible disease.
His eyes were sharp and dark, but they stared ahead, absorbing as much as the scene as possible. They were contained above by heavy, tired eyelids and below by dark shadows. A testament to a decided lack of sleep the prefect was getting. Patched, too large robes clad the rest of him.
However, there was a difference. A difference that stood out like a sore thumb. The already eccentric boy was wearing a cape. A big, black, flowing cape painstakingly crafted out of dark blue cloth. The inside was dark blue, the outside pained black with splotches of ink in a feeble attempt to make it blend in with the background more. The result was unwittingly brilliant, patches and splotches of black blending with the blue to make a perfect camouflage for dark bushes and forests. Sadly, as there were no bushes or forests here, and it most certainly was not dark, it looked like a poor attempt at coloring.
The cape material was taken from some very nice silk curtains in one of the ravenclaw dorms he had helped to decorate a bit, and the untainted insides still gave off a rather nice blue shine.
Sitting down on a cushion, he surveyed the scene with unblinking, unchanging dark eyes. If he didn't look quite right before, he looked positively unnerving now. Inhuman.
Or perhaps the right word was ridiculous...

Muriel nodded in agreement to Cecily’s answer; the hippogriff was indeed an admirable and noble creature. “I hope you will see one too, I wouldn’t mind meeting one either.” She’d replied when the girl explained that the class could only be taken during their 3rd Year. I guess that’s one thing I can look forward to in the future, she thought sadly, still wishing it could be available sooner.Interactions: Cecily Queen
When Cecily turned the question onto her however, Muriel had to think unusually hard about it. “The truth is I love almost every creature, but if I had to choose a favorite it would be...” She paused, taking yet another moment to rethink her choice. “...it would be a Threstal.” She finally answered, though found it difficult to prevent herself from listing more. “Sure they may be scary-looking, but I think that’s what makes them unique. They’re ominous-looking creatures with a good heart. ...That’s kind of an oxymoron!” She giggled at the thought before looking around the room again.
This time she noticed a new kid present, sitting at a table. He looked... tired. And sick. But what stood out the most to her wasn’t his appearance, or his cape, but the badge. “...There are three prefects for each house? I thought there were only two...” She murmured quietly to Cecily, gesturing with her head towards the guy, recalling each one she’d seen by now. Perhaps I’m mistaken... there must be two head students, not prefects... but then how many more prefects are there? ...4?

Cecily nodded as she always did when Muriel talked. Cecily hoped that Muriel knew from the nodding that she really did care about their conversation, and was glad they were having it.Interactions: Muriel Carroll
However, Cecily stopped nodding when Muriel mentioned Thestrals and then afterwards mentioned prefects. The word "Thestral" always scared her a bit.
"T-Thestrals? Y-yes, I suppose they are such marvelous creatures! I- um," Cecily said awkwardly. Then she sighed, trying to shake off her awkwardness. "I've always wanted to meet one, but from the books I've read they don't sound too pleasant. Well, as long as they like me and are nice to me, I'll like them," Cecily said, smiling. Then Cecily looked at Muriel.
"D-do you know what they look like?" Cecily asked, almost a little too fast. After saying it, she clapped her hands to her mouth. "Oh! Oh no, I'm sorry. I didn't mean it, it just came out. Just... forget I asked that question. Oh no oh no oh no."
Cecily scolded herself multiple times before talking about prefects.
"Well, I think there are three th- prefects for each house... maybe four? I know at least three... I'm not too sure," Cecily said, still thinking about Thestrals.
Hoping that Muriel had forgotton about the Thestral question, she asked, "Um, so... do you have any pets? I mean muggle pets?"

Muriel listened to Cecily's opinion on Thestrals, sensing that the girl might be a bit intimidated by them. She didn't mind though; she knew the creatures have always been misunderstood and it would take some time before their true nature could be seen by all. When the question was brought up about her knowing what they looked like, Muriel was confused on why Cecily seemed to strongly regret saying anything, until she remembered that only people who've witnessed death could see them.Interactions: Cecily Queen
"No, no... it's fine, really!" She said, trying to reassure the girl; she didn't mind at all describing a Thestral's appearance. "If you really want to know though, they basically look like normal horses, except they're all black and have really tight skin, so they kind of look like skeletons. And they also have these really huge bat wings and white eyes!" Muriel tried to explain, holding out her arms and flapping them around to give her a better picture.
When she started talking about Prefects however, Muriel just nodded; it seemed that there were probably four then. Two boys and two girls... that would be fair. And when the question about pets got brought up, she smiled even brighter, loving to talk about animals.
"Well, I wish I had my own pet! I've been asking for one since I was six, but my parents keep telling me that I need to get older and more 'responsible' before I can take on the 'challenges' of caring for one." She answered with slight annoyance towards her parents; she would love to have a pet and would care for it like it was her own baby sibling! She didn't even care what animal it would be!
"But my mother does have her own owl." She added briefly. "It's not really a muggle pet, but I don't see why they can't be... they're so adorable!" She gushed, remembering how affectionate she was. Come to think of it, she really did miss the old, grey bird... and her parents. But she shook the homesickness away, not wanting to get all emotional at a party where everyone could see her.
"So... do you have any pets then? What kind of animals do muggles take care of?" She asked curiously, truly wanting to know the answers.

Cecily took a deep breath. She was relieved that Muriel wasn't offended. As Muriel talked about thestrals more, she listened to Muriel with wide, interested eyes.Interactions: Muriel Carroll
"They sound so cool. It would be so amazing to meet one," Cecily said.
Cecily started to stare at the floor as Muriel talked more.
When Muriel finished Cecily nodded understandingly.
"I've always wanted a dog. Our whole family wants one, but our mom doesn't want us to get one. She doesn't really think we need a dog, but I do wish we could have one."
Cecily paused, then went on, answering her questions. "None of my family members have any pets except for my oldest brother. He has an owl. My parents don't let us get a pet until we are older," Cecily said sadly. "But it's something to look forward to in the future," she added, smiling a little.
Cecily paused again, and then shrugged at Muriel's next question. "Uh, I guess dogs, cats, although wizards have cats too... Uh, birds, and... well," Cecily couldn't think of any more animals. "so many more."
Cecily looked up, and then smiled. "So, this is random, but what's your favorite food?"
Thinking about food always made Cecily smile.

Liliafix entered the party, a small smile on her face. She had a book in her hand (she almost always did), prepared to use it as a distraction if no one talked to her. However, Liliafix had actually come to socialize. She was shy, but wanted to get to know some people from her house. She sat down at the end of a table, setting her book beside her. She looked around. People were chatting and eating, none looking in Liliafix's direction. Liliafix sighed as she reached for her book.

Muriel nodded to Cecily's answers, happy to know that it wasn't just her family that didn't let her have a pet yet. I guess it is something to look forward to... she mentally agreed before listening some more. She was surprised about how many various pets muggles had. Perhaps they have more docile creatures than hostile ones in their world.Interactions: Cecily Queen
Muriel smiled at the next question, not minding to talk about food either. "Hmm... I guess it's berries! Though I can't choose only one; I love all of them, especially the bitter ones like gooseberries or blackcurrants!" She answered, the talk of them making her mouth water. She'd always had the opposite of a sweet tooth, a bitter tooth that craved anything bitter or sour at times, even if it was a bit odd to some. "...What about you?"

Seeing as everyone else had gathered into small groups and was talking about things Mae wouldn't want to interrupt, Mae decided to approach her prefect, Kaegen Deathmote. Mae did not know much about him, that much was true. But, from afar at least, he seemed like an eye-catching and certainly interesting person. His black hair was messy and tousled, face patched up by bandages. His skin itself seemed a kind of warm grey, I almost liked it. As I began to slowly make my way towards him, drink in hand, I noticed something odd: a cape. Black and blue, it made him look, though grand, just a little bit silly. Otherwise, his clothes as I had seen them in the hall had not changed: grey scarf, grey clothes. With Kaegen looking absent-mindedly to the side, words burst from my lips, maybe not entirely intentional.Interactions: Kaegen Deathmote
"Is this seat taken?" I asked, with a voice I was proud of myself for using. Not shy, not hesitant.
I like it.
The room we were in was indeed very interesting, and I couldn't wait to take Divination in my next years. The tapestries, the tables, to even the vibrantly adorned professor, I was suddenly reminded of exactly why I had come to Hogwarts: to learn and to make friends.

Was it taken? As far as the boy knew it wasn't, but he wasn't exactly an expert on seats being taken. If someone had been there long enough they probably would be able to tell this girl what she wanted to know. And then it dawned on him. The simple truth that the girl had just now taken the seat, and therefore it didn't even matter if anyone else wanted it or not. She wanted it, and was closer. That was how this worked, wasn't it?
His voice was quiet, just barely above a whisper. It reminded some of rustling leaves and other more observant individuals that Kaegen had entirely no experience speaking at all.
Convinced his interaction had ended upon him delivering that crucial bit of information, he turned his eyes back to the small group of ravenclaws. And then kept them there, staring quietly out in a rather desperate attempt to figure out what exactly was going on.
