Jalen wasn't normal at all. Never once in his life has he or his family considered him normal. Of course, he considered this life normal, because what better life did he know? Why wasn’t he normal? Well, it all started seventy years ago…
A man in his teenage years name Justice Abbot was something you’d call a dhampir. Pale skin. Long, retractable fangs. Red eyes. Your typical dhampir. His family absolutely hated him. He couldn’t hang in the living room with his family. He couldn’t eat with his family. They had scraped him out like a contagious disease, as they believed he was contagious. He had to stay in his room. Meals were delivered to his bedroom door as they walked away after setting it down. Fine, Justice thought. He could live that way for the rest of his life. As long as he didn’t have to see his stupid, stereotypical family.
It took a while, but he found out he wasn’t gonna live this way and put up with it. So he made a plan that he would follow. He made three backup plans, just in case.
He waited until dark, then he waited some more. He then went to his door, and started to open the handle.
“Damnit, it’s locked,” Justice whispered to himself. His parents room was just across the hallway. He listened, and heard both parents snoring. Thank goodness, Justice thought.
He resorted to plan B. That would be exactly what he should’ve done in the first place. He unlocked his windows, opened them, took his bag of belongings and left. Now he was on his own. He found a shelter that took in homeless people- he was lucky he had enough money to stay at a shelter.
Soon, he started making money. He had enough money to leave the shelter and buy a house, so that’s what he did. His house wasn’t nice. It was small and crowded with many things. But it had working appliances and everything he needed to live, so he was pleased.
He often didn’t like to socialize with his dhampir traits. He was actually African-English, but he looked mixed since he was a dhampir. That part was fine. But the red eyes…. How would he fix that? It didn’t take long to figure out. He went to a muggle eye glass store a bought contacts. The muggle asked why his eyes were red. He told them they were contacts. The muggle nodded. Instead of trying them on at the store since he’d have to take his current “contacts” out, he decided to just take them home and try them there.
Justice decided to go to the muggle store to buy some food. He didn’t know why he was so obsessed with with muggle stops- maybe it was some sort of rebellious strike towards his parents since they hated Muggles. He went shopping at Muggle stores normally, and went to Wizard stores. He bumped into this woman, who was very beautiful. They struck a conversation, and Justice was in love. Later during their friendship, Justice told Sarah who and what he was. She was shocked.
A few weeks later, they started dating. Two months later, Justice proposed. Sarah, his girlfriend, said yes, bouncing up and down. They got married, and decided to have kids. Their kids became dhampir’s. Later down the family tree, Jax and Ebony had their first child, his name was Jalen. And, as expected… he was a dhampir.

People around Lucas would not think much of him intellectually, nor did he seem like much of a model student, in fact, he seemed bored, distracted and border line disruptive during class. Very few, however, were privy to what was happening inside the mind of Lucas Chapman. He wasn't the absent minded idiot many would pin him to be, in fact, he was actually surprisingly talented, especially when it came to DADA, and it was a talent he, and his family, took steps to nurture.
Throughout the entirety of Lucas' childhood, his father told him stories about his own exploits and experiences at Hogwarts, and even from a young age, Lucas' short attention span was evident, unless either Transfiguration or DADA were bought up, which was when he suddenly became hyper fixated on whatever it was his father said, no matter how boring a story, or how useless the detail was, Lucas would commit these things to memory. Eventually, the interest around Transfiguration lessoned, but his fixation on DADA persisted. Before he turned 10, Lucas had probably heard all of his fathers stories ten times through, but that wasn't enough.
Lucas didn't bother to read much of the required books, only giving them all a brief glance through, with one exception. 'The Dark Forces: A Guide to Self-Protection'. The book was visibly worn down the spine, a testament to his continued reading, and filled with his own notes and comments, an extended area of blank paper was a rarity in this book after Lucas was done with it. Countless hours were spent in fields, secretly waving a wand in the motion of various spells described in the book. Maybe it was useless, maybe not, Lucas had no way of knowing at the time, but it made him feel like he was learning. He was finally able to focus his attention somewhere productive, and for that, he was more than happy to continue through these motions, even if they ended up being a waste of time. His father caught him one day, and instead of being annoyed with Lucas, as Lucas had strangely expected, he instead began to personally tutor him. Explaining the theory behind spells, the importance of proper pronunciation, and all manner of things that he deemed to be worth teaching.
It was when he got to Hogwarts, and sat through his early DADA lessons, it was apparent that he had not wasted his time. In fact, he'd probably done too much. He found himself bored in the classes, even new concepts clicked quick enough in his mind, which is what lead to him often seeming disinterested in the learning material. Instead, he was either reading ahead, or simply imaging. He sometimes imagined himself as an Auror, protecting other wizards from Dark wizards, other times, he'd be a simple civilian who sprung to the rescue when a troll ,or some other creature when rampaging. It was at these times, it was clear what he wanted to be in life.

Name of Ability: Beast Master
Describe why it Fits my Character:
ReducioIt’d never been a fascination before.
Elsian hadn’t grown up with an uncanny connection to animals or some special love for beasts and critters galore. Attempts at getting the boy a pet in the past had been failures with none of the creatures taking a particular shine to the boy and vice versa with the boy himself having zero interest in any of the creatures aside from a detached sort of understanding that, ‘yeah they’re cute, or cool.’
After a good 2 or so years, that finally changed with Kitty.
Elsian had not chosen Kitty, the spider had a stubborn mind of her own after all. A happy coincidence, chance, one that, in another world might’ve ended with the boy walking away without a pet for many more years. Luckily, that didn’t happen thanks to the spider's curiosity and stubborn little spider brain and Elsian, startled, amused, and undeniably charmed, had ended up taking the spider with him. That was the beginning.
As it was said before, he’d never been particularly fascinated or drawn to animals like some people, but Kitty was different. Maybe it was because she was a spider and he’d simply never contemplated a spider being the perfect companion for him, or perhaps it was the simple fact she was his and that was enough; either way things changed when Kitty was involved. Where Kitty went, trouble seemed to follow with the spider's shenanigans, and Elsian would be right behind her trying to play damage control and quick to keep the mischievous little thing safe from people less than pleased to see her. Sometimes he was overprotective, other times he knew he was too easy going; he was learning, they were learning, Elsi had never had a pet before after all and Kitty never a tired, odd human to call her own.
It was a hard balance, between locking the spider up for her own good and letting her run free but over time, with each mess up and new shenanigan that opened up new experiences, the sleepy Gryffindor and spider slowly but surely started to find that balance, understanding growing between the owner and crazy spider in their own way. Despite himself, Elsian grew to enjoy her little spirited adventures. And Kitty grew to enjoy sometimes lazing about and watching over her lazy owner.
She was still a stubborn, spirited, crazy little thing of a pet though. Much more than Elsian ever thought he’d be able to keep up with in the past, and yet somehow it worked as the boy got used to being a parent to one hyperactive, escape artist, kleptomaniac of a spider-
In fact, one could pinpoint Kitty being a driving factor in the lazy Gryffindor becoming more active, more aware, and in the end, becoming a bit of a trouble magnet himself.
She brought him out of his shell, caused him to engage more not just with raising her but also the world around him. He began to pick up on his pets finer quirks, the way she tried to hideaway in the crook of his neck or arm when upset or feeling unwell, the differences between excited and agitated twitches and skitters, the way she gravitated towards shiny things for her webs, just all sorts of small things that he began to just…remember and tuck away to be held close. And in return Kitty started to mellow out and grow more attached to the boy, in her own free spirited spidery way. She still liked to hide away, still escaped her carrier, still caused trouble with people not pleased to see a spider…but she also started listening to the boy more, staying near him during shenanigans and quiet moments alike and even growing to prefer hanging off his clothes or hide in his hood, seeming to prefer escaping her tank so she could sleep or hide away in the shadows of his beds curtains.
The craziness didn’t fully go away. Probably never would. But the bond between the two was strong as ever.
More recently it’s gotten to a point where the spider constantly hangs onto the boy wherever he goes, the 2 even getting into trouble together for better or worse. Sometimes there are struggles, Elsian still not quite figuring out how to teach the spider that no, not everybody's screams were of joy and an invitation to be carried but the issues tend to be outweighed by the good. Like how Elsian always knows what she needs to feel better and just how to find her when her need to wander hits. Or the way she seems to know by the tone of his voice or the way he acts when he's serious and needs her to listen, and frets when her owner doesn’t seem well, tucking herself extra close.
The bonds there. And it’s only getting stronger the longer the spider and Gryffindor are together.

Bernard has always been strange and weird, being the source of bullying from his peers. It's hard to pin point why he is such a target, even the losers make in fun of him and mock him. But Bernard has learned to ignore it and be himself, always voicing his opinions despite what others may say, every word said only makes him stronger and more resilient. His presence can make some uncomfortable but when they meet him they will find that he is an absolute sweetheart and there is more than to him than his pitch black hair, pale skin, and dark eyeliner. Where does he get these features if his mother seems to find herself with pure blonde hair, golden skin, and an alluring demeanor? Oh you see though he takes on his mother's beautiful hazel eyes and more petite features, he also takes after his father's more disturbing looks.... Very ironically, like Bernard's middle name "Hunter," was the cause of his father's death. Why did a hunter kill his father? Well maybe because to most his father was considered a monster, unfit for the world. A Vampire. The man charged with his father's murder was sent to azkaban to pay for his heinous crimes. His grandfather hated the fact that his only daughter fell in love with a Vampire, destroying their pure blood line of generations cutting her off so that her and her baby son would find themselves struggling to stay above poverty. You can imagine how the other pure-blooded American children treated the half-breed Scottish son... Many look at him and thank God that he took more after his lovely mother than his horrid father. It's strange to hear everyone say one thing about someone you never knew and your very own mother say something completely different. It was confusing for the Bernard, so he decided to believe something in the middle. He knows very well of his vampire heritage, and doesn't know much of how to feel about it.... He overhears the other "pure" children, though they were nothing but pure, terrible things about "no majs" American term for muggles . He would have thought the same if they didn't say the same things about "half-breeds" as well. This made him have a more open mind about these "no majs". You can't imagine how many times poor Bernard was falsely accused of biting the other children for their blood. No matter how many times he told them that he didn't, he was always a misfit. Sometimes he would wish he wasn't a vampire but yet his mother would always find a way to cheer him up and make him proud of his heritage, but it was still difficult all the same. Wasn't it enough being weird already? With two gaps were his canine teeth should be, and almost unnatural pale skin? Did he have to be part-vampire too? There are a lot of things out of our control, Bernard found out, and the world uprightly judged him for it... But he promised himself he would not do the same thing. Even if he came off as creepy or emo he would always be himself and be proud, though he made one exception.... Keep his blood a secret...
In addition to this, many other magical schools don't accept half-breeds which was a driving factor for Bernard to go to England dos that he could attend Hogwarts where all were welcome. Before his father's death at age 3 and after they were cutt-off from his grandfather, Bernard showcased his first instance of magic in Godric Hollow, England at a local florist shop. When he turned fous years old in order to support her and her child Bernard's mom went to America for better job opportunities.

1) His first instance of magic happened when Bernard was 3- from what I understand, he lived in America then. I'm afraid his first instance of magic needs to happen in the UK so he can get his Hogwarts letter.
2) To close the circle- What happened with the murderer of his father? He would not be just let go for it.

Name of Ability or Race/Talent that you Are Applying for: Chaser's Interception
Describe why this fits your character (not why you the player want it):
ReducioSports is something Jay takes a lot of pride in. Back in the muggle world, he was that one kid that was in all the after school sports teams he physically could be in. He was always an athletic kid, and he loves playing sports to help the team. The sport he enjoys the most is Basketball, and it shows. From playing Basketball, and other fast paced sports, he learned to be quick to get the ball and even quicker to score. It was for different reasons, but it still trained him to evade the other team to get that point.
When it comes down to it, he might seem a little jumpy, but that’s just his reflexes on full display. His brother, who also joined a couple sports to keep active, has these quick reflexes too. To come to think of it, so do his parents. He would guess that it’s part of his genes, his fast reflexes, only beatable by his math skills. His father was like him, extremely athletic as a kid, and he still is. His mother on the other hand, isn’t. But, she does have fast reflexes from a bullying problem in her secondary school. Jays brother is just pretty fast, and so is Jay.
Along with Basketball, a fast paced game, Jay was also in some not so safe sports. Things like Wrestling and Taekwondo are very violent things to do. Though, sparring in Taekwondo also taught him to use his fast body, and Wrestling was more along the lines of being aggressive to get the opponent on the ground. Even so, his speed comes with a fast mind. It’s like the world goes to slow down for him to think and act, mind racing at a million miles per second. He didn’t realize that wasn’t the case for everyone until recently.
Never has he really thought about his abnormal reflexes, thinking pretty much that everyone was super slow or just didn't care about the sport they were playing in. He doesn't just have a switch that turns on his fast muscles during training, but he has to deal with it all the time. Whether it be catching a crumpled up paper coming his way or avoiding something that was bound to trip him, his eyes and brain are consistently on high alert. Not that he disliked it, as it saved him from some situations he would've rathered not been in.

Occlumency (448 Words)
Reducio
Magdalena’s mind has always been a place of order, of reason, experimentation and rigid methodology. It was that natural predisposition that lent itself so naturally to potion-making and later to research and academia more broadly. The world was a series of equations and logical puzzles that could be solved, and by organising her brain in a way that would keep it similarly structured, she could piece together those mysteries, especially if said mysteries were alchemical in nature. Such a nature also afforded itself well to the development of occlumency. For years, Magdalena had been rigidly structuring and focusing her mind, not allowing distractions or others to pierce the veil, without ever realising precisely what she was doing. A great deal of control over her mind had been required since she was a young woman, and into her adult years that control only strengthened further.
Legilimency and other such mental arts first came to her knowledge in those days spent surrounded by dusty texts in the Hogwarts restricted section, of potions such as veritaserum, and whilst she knew mental fortitude could not protect one against that particular brew, she became dangerously aware of just how disastrous a mental attack could be. Still, her thoughts were purely academic, abstract horrors a world away, barely of concern to a girl whose primary worries were getting high enough scores on her NEWTs to get a job in the Ministry upon graduation.
Real world experience changed that. Particularly, her internship in Malaysia. The potionmaster she served under was brilliant, undoubtedly so, but he was also paranoid beyond measure and something of a harsh task-master. Apparently a run-in with a rather untoward Greek, or perhaps Sicilian, fellow about a half-century before had left him in constant fear of attack through his own mind. As a part of his regimen, he required all of his students and apprentices to not only practice potion-making (including preparing his own ingredients for use) but also the art of occlumency.
The talent came naturally to Magdalena, granted it was tested on more than a few occasions when she had a fair bit too much to drink with her fellow overworked graduates, but it would soon become as natural to her as any other thought. A mind palace had been built, where not only were her thoughts ordered and structured, but also protected from the assailment of untoward intruders.
Granted, her ordering system, much like it was in the physical plain, was utterly perplexing to any except her. But a mess that is messy by design is no true mess, and that is a mantra that she continues to hold. One that has served her well in her mental protection.

With her OWLs past, there was no doubt in Magdalena Wickham-Deakin’s mind as to what field of study would form the bulk of her interest as she entered into her NEWT study. Potions had been her first, and true, love in the world of magic. She had excelled academically in the subject, and soon found that in spite of such a skill in the subject, it was dwarfed by her overall passion for the craft. It was absolutely natural that she would apply for special permission to undertake further study in the restricted section of the library, the ancient and dangerous tomes within that particular part of the library offered a veritable treasure trove of knowledge. Fortunately for her, her academic record and history as somewhat too serious to get into any real trouble saw her granted with that particular access without any real worry.
Deep in the heart of her second favourite room in the castle, bested only by the dungeons that contained the cauldrons and reagents that had become her passion, the young witch would spend hours poring over seemingly endless texts about draughts and salves that alchemists and potioneers had spent decades developing, then professors and librarians had spent centuries hiding away from impressionable first years who may get themselves killed through the misapplication of such. The recipes within were often complex, and it was clear why they were restricted. A misstep, or a failed brewing, a near certainty for those who were less than capable in the art, could have disastrous consequences. Her very first lesson of potion class, now close to six years previous, had taught her of the necessity to respect both the potion and the brewing process. Nowhere had this become more blatantly clear to her than in deciphering some of the downright cryptic texts that masqueraded as instructions on how to craft some of the potions that the professors had seen fit to keep under lock and key.
Yet more than a few recipes were deceptively simple. Slightly confused as to why, it soon became all too clear as to why those particular draughts had been restricted. Poisons. To learn to combat poisons, one needed to learn to understand them, but to teach them freely would be to court disaster. In spite of herself, Magdalena found herself intrigued, untold and unknown powers could be hidden within those pages. All she needed to do was study them and, just maybe, she would be able to create something truly spectacular.
In time, the young woman would come to learn greatly from those books, be they complex or dark. Potions and poisons would be committed to memory, and her grades would only improve.

Describe why this fits your character (not why you the player want it): (420 words)ReducioThings haven’t went well for Callie in her third year, primarily in the department of successful casting in duels and perilous situations. The reasons behind her repeated failures were in hindsight incredibly childish. Mis-pronunciations…her head being elsewhere….general carelessness…the list goes on. But now Callie is her wits end with her own carelessness. A new found determination for perfection had sunk in at long last, leading to her dedicating countless hours to the endless pursuit of perfection. Despite this she never quite shook her near addiction to sugar….that part of Callie may never change even in the face of perfection.
The pursuit began with simply dedicating extra hours to study. Late nights in the library…constant questions to professors…..some would argue it was her finally leaning into the Ravenclaw way of things. There rarely was a day that went by without Callie having her nose buried in a book of some form. The previously incredibly sociable girl turned into a quiet bookworm dedicated to the pursuit of perfection, sometimes to her own detriment. Even on the rare occasion she spent holidays at home rather than the walls of Hogwarts she couldn’t let her mind relax. For Callie there was always something she could be working on, always something she could be chasing in her desire to not have everything blow up in her face every time.
Eventually simple additional study didn’t satisfy Callie’s newfound need for perfection. Extra study soon gave way to throwing herself completely into duelling practice with very little regard for her own personal safety. With every duel, every practice session Callie went further down the rabbit hole. By now it had become undeniable obsession, which was somewhat unsurprising given her ongoing commitment to the Ravenclaw duelling team. It had become her life outside of class, filling just about every once of free time she allowed herself. At one point she even made the switch from sugar covered cereal to bland brand with the thought it might allow her more energy to dedicate to practice. For Callie her efforts started to pay off with each tournament win but deep down she knew it wasn’t enough. Would it ever be enough? She wasn’t overly sure but that wasn’t going to beat down her enthusiasm to not suck completely. Eventually she learned how to balance her pursuit for perfection alongside being the sociable girl she always was but she couldn’t always shake the guilt. The need to be doing something, anything…all to avoid having a spell blow up in her face.STATUS: Approved, Opeila 25/01

Jordan was completely stoked to learn that they were magical! Their parents were always encouraging, and despite their hesitation to send Jordan off to some castle for the majority of the year, they were excited to learn about Jordan’s new world. The very next Tuesday after the professor’s visit, Linda and Bruce followed the instructions to take Jordan to Diagon Alley.
Luckily, since they already lived in a suburb of London, it wasn’t too long of a trip for them. Jordan spent the entire car ride talking about the possibilities that would lay within the wizarding world, and how there was a possibility it would be different enough for Jordan to experience that phenomenon they had read about: Culture Shock. No matter, they were excited to see what this place had in store for them.
Navigating their way through the various hurdles put before them, Linda and Bruce were smart enough to leave Flourish and Blotts for last, knowing that their child was already obsessed with reading, and would likely be carrying home thrice the amount of books actually required for the school year. Since the robes, wand, and other necessities were carefully packed into their new cauldron, Linda could easily hold them all as Bruce followed behind Jordan, grabbing all the wonderful tomes they took down.
“I cannot believe that I get to learn all these magnificent things now!” said Jordan. “Everything from the study of Potions to the Care of Magical Creatures!”
With gusto, Jordan led their father to the front of the store, and watched as the wizard working behind the counter looked the books up and down. With a sly smirk he asked, “And let me guess, you’re hoping for Ravenclaw?” He then chuckled, “Don’t worry, I’m sure you’re a shoe-in with this pile. Though I guess this could translate to ambition instead of curiosity.”
Jordan wrinkled their brow, but decided not to question what the man had meant by that, as he seemed mostly to be musing to himself, like some strange form of entertainment. When he was finally done, they could pack up and head home.
Jordan sat in the backseat with the pile of books beside them. They pulled the first one off the pile: History of Magic. After skimming through the introduction and table of contents, Jordan switched to the next one. They were determined to start each textbook of required reading and stay at least a week ahead. They had read somewhere that the most successful students would always stay ahead of the reading so they could ask deeper questions on the material during lectures. Jordan definitely wanted to be a successful student.
It was about four books in when Jordan finally found something worth digging in. It simply said: The Book of Spells. Within it were pages and pages of (mostly) unheard of words that would allow actual, real magical things to happen. Jordan was hooked immediately.
This was better than that summer when Jordan learned that there were languages besides English and Welsh. They had deep-dived into the languages surrounding them, using library books to learn the basics and pronunciations for the most commonly used phrases in each language. There were now seven languages where Jordan could ask for directions to the bathroom and understand them. Now, they didn’t know much more than that in the five other languages, but they could get by.
Jordan was convinced they could have an even better understanding of these words since they were at least written in their native tongue. After getting home, Jordan continued this deep-dive into the Book of Spells in their room, then at the dinner table, and again at breakfast. They read through the whole textbook in about two weeks, then started over again, this time with flashcards to study the spells. Once flash cards were made, they were able to take some breaks to do their normal one-chapter-of-learning between study sessions of the spells and the written pronunciations.
Luckily for Jordan, their parents were pretty good at languages, as their mother spoke both English and Welsh, while their father spoke English and German. They were masters at sounding out phonetics as written on pages since, “That’s how we had to learn everything back in the day!” Jordan felt confident that they understood most of what was going on in that text, and had the audacity to ask their parents for the next in the series. At this request, Linda only laughed, and brought out the Standard Book of Spells, Grade 2 from her desk drawer.

Name: Opal Brinkman
Talent: Parselmouth
Why this fits Opal:
[url=null][/viewtopic.php?t=24920]

Being a parselmouth can be very dangerous. You can open the Chamber of Secrets and even awaken the Basilisk. Most fear Parselmouths because Lord Voldemort was on and one of the worst to ever walk to earth. How could a muggle-born become a parselmouth? It's unheard of! Besides even though Opal is in Slytherin she is against the dark arts. She believes its awful and barbaric. How could she have inherited the worst trait known to wizard kind? Opal is the sweetest girl and nobody would ever consider her being on the dark side. But many don't know she is a parselmouth. If anybody were to know Opal would be an outcast. Nobody would want to be around her. Opal is ashamed of her ability but it can come in handy. One time a snake was about to attack her little sister Esmeralda, but Opal told it not to or she would skin it alive. The snake being intelligent slithered away as quickly as it could. Later that day Esmeralda asked Opal what she said but Opal was confused. She never actually thought about why she could talk to snakes. After all Opal was only 10 years old at the time and didn't even know that wizards existed outside fairy tales. Being a parselmouth is a huge responsibility but Opal can take it. She is used to being an outcast. In the muggle world she was the top of every single one of her classes she ever took. She was so smart that some teachers thought she cheated on tests even though that was never the case. Opal was simply different. Being a parselmouth is a big part of her personality whether she likes it or not. It makes her more responsible and strengthens her ability to persevere. Maybe someday Opal will be able to tell others about her secret ability but not any time soon. Not until she is ready. She doesn't know any parselmouths in this school but she knows that there are a few. Maybe some body out there is like her. Nah that is a unrealistic dream. But is it really? Opal has always wanted to fit in but has never been able to. Even in the muggle world she was an outcast because of her love for education. She was the top of every single one of her classes and some people did not like that. In the wizarding world Opal hopes to find some real friends who won't bail on her the first time she does something strange. Maybe she might even find the one who makes her feel amazing and who causes butterflies to do cart wheels in her stomach. Okay maybe not because Opal really does not like insects or arachnids. Spiders and flying bugs give her the shivers. Well Opal will someday announce to her friends that she is different.

1) Your application is not 500 words long
2) You are explaining what a parselmouth is and what Opal does with the ability, but why does she have it? Did she inherit it? Is there a history of parselmouths in her family?

For Pádraig the study of Defense Against the Dark Arts has been something he has always found fascinating from the very first tale he read of a hero overcoming all odds and defeating the evil, however within the Nordic side of his family the dark arts are not frowned upon in the same manner as the Irish side of his family. This schism per se has been a primary driving factor for his fascination with the curriculum for the Defense Against the Dark Arts in Hogwarts, he found he had a natural knack for it as he poured over 'The Dark Forces: A Guide to Self-Protection' once he received it from his father, he spent many hours studying the book and correlating the spells to his storybooks and the many tales of adventures depicted in his father large book collection.
To his surprise he found his otherwise stern and cold father to be very supportive of his interest in the subject as he remarked Pádraig had an aptitude for it 'like his father and grandfather before him' in his father's words. Urged on further by his father's support and practice under his father's tutorlage he soon found the spells to become evident in his mind as his father would correct his wand movement and enunciation, demonstrating the spell in question for Pádraig, as his father in his own words 'believe practical application should always be displayed.' when learning magic.
While he had an interest in charms and spellcasting in particular he was spurred on by his family, in particularly the Nordic side when his father proudly proclaimed his talent at a family party when visiting Denmark in July before Pádraig was going to attend Hogwarts. He felt a certain unease at how proud the family seemed to be at his abilities within this particular subject, with shoulder and back clapping between his uncles claiming it came from their side while his mother was scowling at the end of the table, clearly not fond of the situation by any means.
Still in Pádraig's mind this was first and foremost something he associated with heroes of old, imagining he might one day be worthy to have his name marked down in history or even become the hero mentioned in a tale of adventure. Though in the moment he wished for nothing more than to learn more and see how far his own skills and understanding could take him, and looking forward to seeing how much more he can learn at Hogwarts.
