Hiding inside Hogwarts
Andrea was sick of all the noise and bustle of Hogwarts. No matter where she went, there were people, people fighting, people talking, people laughing. She was even getting bored of going to the library. There was only so much reading a person could take. Ironically, she was thinking about all of that while she was in the library browsing the shelves. She put down the book she was looking at and walked out. She decided to go hang out in a place she had heard of from some 6 years gryffindors. She ascended the flights of stairs that led to the second floor. Spotting the abandoned bathroom she immediately stumbled inside. She sat on the cold marble floor and started writing a letter to her mom. Hearing a noise, she looked up from her parchment. I must just be hearing things She thought to herself. After all, the students here were making her crazy. She was having a really hard time making new friends. Everyone here knew so much more about the wizarding world then she did. She hated being muggleborn. It really wasn't fair that they dragged her away from her perfectly normal life, school, and family. She just wanted to go home. Andrea heard a noise again. This time, it was the sound of the door creaking open. "Hello?" Andrea said.

Hiding inside Hogwarts
Irina wandered around the school, looking into empty classrooms and abandoned corridors. This had been her daily routine after every dinner, wandering the school for around half an hour to try and map out the place in her head, get to know it well. She had already explored every inch of the first floor and was now on her way to the second floor.
Seeing a door ahead of her, slightly ajar, she hurried forwards excitedly and pushed it open. It creaked ever so slightly and she paused, aware that anyone or anything could be in there. There was a few seconds of silence and then she heard the scratching of a quill on parchment. Her brow furrowed in confusion and she quietly edged forwards, trying to squeeze past the door, making an effort not to move it so it wouldn't creak - she failed. It gave a prolonged 'CrReEAaKk' and she cringed, pausing as someone said, "Hello?"
Rolling her eyes in annoyance at how clumsy she was, she walked boldly forwards into the room. 'Wow,' she thought irritably, 'If you're going to go sneaking around school after hours, you need to learn how to sneak quietly.' It was a bathroom, with a cold, cracked floors and chipped, dirty mirrors. The entire room was cold and drafty, embodying the word decrepid. The wooden cubicles looked very flimsy, and Irina now realised that this must be the Abandoned Bathroom she had heard some kids from her year talking about.
Looking down, she saw a young hufflepuff girl on the floor, quill in hand, writing a letter. It took her a few moments to recognise her as one of the First Years from the courtyard!
"Andrea," she asked, tilting her head and feeling a slight grin forming on her face. "What're you doing in here?"
She walked forwards and sat down next to her, peering closely at her face. She had an air of sadness about her that immediately set Irina's empathy into overdrive.
"Is everything okay?" she asked softly, laying a hand on Andrea's.

I don't have a train of thought. I have 7 trains on 4 tracks, all narrowly avoiding each other when the paths cross, all the passengers are screaming and there's that annoyingly calm female conductors voice in the background.

Irina entered the room, which surprised Andrea. She wasn't who she was expecting, but she was glad to see a friendly face. "Is everything okay?" Andrea smiled at her, although it was a little forced. "Yeah, I'm just writing a letter to my mom." Andrea hesitated. She wasn't sure if she should tell her the whole truth yet, but then again, Irina and some of the others from the courtyard were the closest thing she had to a friend. "Well... she wrote to me yesterday to tell me her and my dad are..." She took a deep breath. It was so hard talking about it. "She told me that her and my dad are filing for divorce." It was true that this was the main reason Andrea was upset, but she had decided not to burden her with her problems at school. "But let's move on from that. Have you started on your homework yet? I've gotten most of my first lesson done, but I'm still waiting for the professor to answer my question so I can finish in Astronomy. I've gotten all O's and E's on everything that's been graded so far." She said, trying desperately to diffuse the tension.

"Yeah, I'm just writing a letter to my mom. Well... she wrote to me yesterday to tell me her and my dad are... she told me that her and my dad are filing for divorce."
Irina's eyes widened and her throat felt tight as she looked at Andrea's face. She opened her mouth but couldn't find the words to express how sorry she was, how much she wanted to help. Instead, she squeezed Andrea's hand lightly, hoping to show some little sign of compassion.
"I'm so, so sorry," she whispered, "That must be . . . that must be awful. I can't even imagine how you're feeling."
She looked down and wondered whether she could say the next thing that had popped into her head - or was it to soon?
"If you ever need someone to talk to, or even just to have a hug with, I'm here."
"But let's move on from that. Have you started on your homework yet? I've gotten most of my first lesson done, but I'm still waiting for the professor to answer my question so I can finish in Astronomy. I've gotten all O's and E's on everything that's been graded so far."
It was clear Andrea wanted to move the conversation on, though whether from embarrassment or pain, or some other unknown factor, Irina couldn't tell. She paused for a few seconds, trying to decide whether she should pursue the subject or move on like Andrea was attempting. In the end, she decided to let it drop - for now.
"That's insane! I've only managed to do 3 classes. But I got O's and E's too. Its cool you've done so many!"
She searched around for something else to say. She figured that injecting a feeling of confidence and bubbliness might help Andrea? But then again it could backfire and make her feel worse!
"What's you're favourite subject? I think mine has to be Potions or DADA."

Andrea could tell that Irina didn't want to let the topic of Andrea's parents drop, but she must have decided to for Andrea's sake. She asked what Andrea's favorite subject was. "Hmmm, I really love playing quidditch and I always do the homework for that, but class-wise I'd say charms. DADA's homework was kind of hard. But other than that, I like it too." She smiled. "Oh! I just dyed my hair. What do you think?" She asked Irina, pointing to her now bubble-gum pink hair. Andrea did look quite pretty. She had started curling her hair, and she was dabbling with makeup. And somehow, her pink hair oddly made her emerald green eyes pop, although the mascara definitely helped. "My sister taught me how to do subtle makeup when I was like, four. So I've basically been practicing my whole life." She said with a bright smile. "I might get a job as a makeup artist, that's a muggle job, or maybe an auror." She said, thoughtfully. Andrea realized she was being quite rude, considering that she had been talking about her self the whole time. "So, what do you want to do as a job?" She asked Irina.

"Oh! I just dyed my hair. What do you think?"
"I love it!" Irina exclaimed, examining the bright hair closely. "I don't think I'd be brave enough to dye my hair an entirely new colour - it suits you though!"
Irina noticed that Andrea's hair wasn't the only different thing about her.
"Ooo, you're using that pretty face paint stuff that muggles use! Making-up or something? It looks beautiful! I mean, you look really pretty without it, but it really makes your eyes stand out!"
Irina was completely in the dark when it came to this sort of thing. Her Aunt had told her about it, but she hadn't really got into the whole idea. She didn't have enough patience for a start.
"That sounds like a cool job - not to mention how impressive it is you've been able to do stuff like this since the age of 4! Maybe I'll let you have a try on me (if I can muster up enough patience)." She winked at Andrea and nudged her lightly in the side.
"So, what do you want to do as a job?"
"Well, I also reckon an auror would be a fun job to have. I'm a pretty active and energetic person so it would suit me well. On the other hand, I really like experimenting with potions. Oh! I am absolutely fascinated by wands. They are so intriguing! So maybe making wands would be really cool?"
Irina noted hopefully that Andrea seemed to be a bit more cheerful - or was it just her imaginaton? Maybe chatting and distracting was working then! She continued talking.
"I reckon I could guess you wand by looking at it. Want me to have a go?"
