A Break in the Monotony
A follow-up thread for well-armed and otherwise disturbed members of Slytherin.
The Hospital Wing was not very active this early. It gave Polonius plenty of time to get his desk laid out just the way he liked, ensure his patients had been well during the night, and brew a fresh cup of tea to start his day off right. No doubt there would be a fine number of tummy aches by the time breakfast was served, followed by several first-years with their limbs broken from trying out advanced flying techniques well before they ought to be taught. At least the snow would fall soon. That would help with the swelling and pain when the young wizards were finally leaving the nest and learning to fly.
At his previous job, Polonius had a superstition regarding the Daily Prophet crossword. It had become known as the 'Crossword Curse' - always, it seemed, when Polonius had time to sit and enjoy the daily crossword, some sort of emergency would come flying through the doors and force him out of his reverie. But that was in a hospital environment - the hospital wing was substantially lower stress, owing to the limited spellbook of the students. Not that they didn't dedicate every ounce of creativity and energy to injuring each other - they just lacked the tools to do it meaningfully, most of the time.
Curses were only real when they were cast, however, and not mere superstition. Superstition was something that had no place here. This was a place of reason, learning, and magic - not make-believe! And with renewed determination, Polonius dipped his quill in the ink and brought it close to the paper. Hmm... five letter word for sudden and uncontrollable fear...

The trek to Hospital Wing was long and trecherous . Well, Cash exaggerated a bit. Sure, the trek was far, and with the additional weight on their arms, it did not make the journey way less easy for them to venture. Cash could have taken Professor Jensen's suggestion by dragging Cullen and not carrying her like some sort of superhero.
As soon as the two pairs (Cash with Thorn in their arms still unconscious, Professor Jensen with Winchect) stepped out from the warmth of their house - well, as warm as the basement where Slytherin house located could be found - Cash regretted it as soon the journey was not nearly half over.
Once a while, the prefect would hoist the still-unconscious girl here and there. They pray to whoever deity up there that they would not drop Cullen along the way. Their arms burned and sweat started to form on their forehead. Cash could also feel the sweat start to roll on their back too in the middle of these ungodly witching hours.
Every now and then, Cash needs to take a break. Carrying someone while climbing the many steps was not an easy task but Cash will push through until their eyes will gaze on the door of the Hospital Wing. The night seems long and Cash was already lost the sense of time. They need to sleep soon since all of their energy had been drained from whatever going on back at the Boys' Dorm.
While climbing up towards the Hospital Wing, Cash could not stop to take a look at their Head of House's side profile. They with Cullen and Professor Jensen with Winchect walk side by side. Professor Jensen is truly a beauty of her own kind. At the thought of admiring their Head of House's beauty, Cash's face and the tip of their ears turned red.
If Professor Jensen took notice of their flush skin, Cash will tell to the older woman that they were tired of carrying Cullen and not because the fourth year had a secret crush on their own Head of House. The only one that knew about their crush on Professor Jensen was Henry. At the thought of Henry entered their mind, Cash shook their head.
This is not the right place or time to get flush, Ironwoods! Get it together! they chastised themselves. Cash took a deep breath and they could feel the still unconscious girl started slipping from their arms, so they decided to hoist her again for the umpteenth time during the journey. It feel like ages until finally Cash and co arrived at the front door of the Hospital Wing.
If the Hospital Wing's door was closed, Cash will knock on the wooden door softly with the tip of their shoes and wait until Nurse Frogged opened the door for the four Slytherins that stood in front of the door. But if the Wing's door opens slightly ajar or even opens all the way, Cash will step into the room still carrying the unconscious Cullen in their arms.
"Buenas noches good evening or is it buenas días, good morning Nurse Frogge,"Cash will greet the man in polite manners. Cash was not sure whether the night still count as night or it already turned into a brand new day. The drama that had been going on back at the Boys' Dorm made them lose a sense of time. Their green eyes will scan the room when they alongside Cullen stepped into the room.
They hoisted the unconscious girl that was still in their arms and pray to Merlin they did not drop the pale girl. "Sorry for interrupting your night at these ungodly witching hours but we need your help,"Cash uttered. When they said 'we' Cash darted their eyes to both Professor Jensen and Winchect.
Cash really need to relieve themselves from the weight that was still in their arms. "Is there any empty cot where I can put this girl on?"Inquired the Prefect. While waiting for Nurse Frogge to answer their inquiry, Cash will try their hardest to still try to support Cullen's weight on their arms. Sure their arms were burning.
And their chest moved up and down from the early exercise they had done, but Cash will wait for Nurse Frogge's permission to put Cullen down on one of the available cots in the Wing. But if not, they will put Cullen down on whatever Nurse Frogge tells them. Cash tried their best to swipe the sweat that was rolling on their face with the upper part sleeve of their Pizza onesies pajamas with Cullen still in their arms.
They took another breath. "I am not sure if you know what going on several hours ago back at the boys' dorm and why we were here but I will let Professor Jensen loop you in,"The fourth year said. "Professor Jensen, the floor is all yours,"They stated as Cash stepped back so Professor Jensen could fill Nurse Frogge in on what was happening at the Boys' Dorm several hours ago.

A Break in the Monotony
The events that transpired between the Slytherin dorms and the nurse's office were between Pressor Jensen and the three girls who would have left the basement up a flight of stone stairs, ambled down the corridors of Hogwarts and up another three flights to Polonius' office. The concern here was obvious -- this was a crisis of the mind, the body or of some sort of curse. it was Polonius' job to determine which of the three.
The story provided by Nora, Cassandra or a combination of the pair. The duo had enough information really -- Thorn Cullen had drawn a knife on a student the day before. A reckless, dangerous act that should never have happened, not even once resulted in detention. The second incident involved Ava Winchet, she had drawn a knife she had procured from Thorn's collection. Yes, collection. She attempted to slay a boy while she slept in bed. She was thankfully unsuccessful, the boy woke in time and let out a scream that summoned the staff from all directions. They entered in time to see the girl with blade in hand standing over the pre-teen's bed. He was unharmed, thankfully. The girl that supplied Ava the knife arrived and confessed to a laundry list of offenses ranging from a trunk full of martial weapons - knives primarily, threatening Ava, supplying Ava, and likening her ideology to that of a late dark wizard from the late 1990's, Bellatrix LeStrange.
They were sent here to determine which of the three these girls suffered from.
Polonius would not find anything wrong with either of them, well nothing besides their obviously troubled and homicidal state. To assist Polonius with what normal medical protocol here would be -- it would be involuntary admission to a psychiatric unit until capacity is determined as well as liability be it criminal or financial. So a floo to St. Mungos by breakfast was likely along with psychiatric care in a secure facility where their (as in these two girls) can be assured as well as that of the staff and other patients until they are well.
Mental illness would explain things of course. They have a debility of the mind, a penchant for wickedness that is simply a part of their basic nature. Indeed, this may explain things but it does not excuse them. The staff would need to have a discussion regarding the fate of these two girls after treatment is rendered. IF treatment was given successfully. There were a lot of IFs and thens. The danger and liability of letting a pair of girls who could have killed another student back into Hogwarts after they had done something so dangerous, with such a disregard for the lives of their peers would they be able to welcome either of them back and feel 'safe' in doing so? What if next time the boy does not wake up?

1. Crisis Intervention: A psychiatric emergency in which there is an acute disturbance of behavior, thought or mood of a patient which if untreated may lead to harm, either to the individual or to others in the environment.
2. Physical Injury: had either of them been harmed due to their fascination with knives? Moreover had they committed any self harm (it is beyond site rating for this to be a yes, this is stated in the clinical context).
3. Curse: That one or both of these young ladies are being somehow magically coerced. They had such a history with hags, Polonius would be rather familiar with what to look for. For strange, unexplained scars (from the entry of the slug). Both of them had a magical upbringing - a half-blood and a pure-blood, so scars without a distinct magical cause would make no sense on either of them. Alternatively, he could see if there were any hag artifacts - they were often crude and rather obvious due to their macabre nature - be them a blinking eye laced on a necklace, earrings made from infant bones, hair festooned with strange baubles like teeth or sinew. Finally, hag slugs van be evacuated with Slugulus Eructo.

Reminder- even if the girls do not post in here we need to finish off this scenario. They should be sent to St. Mungos.

A Break in the Monotony
Hjørdis resisted the urge to press her fingers against the bridge of her nose and sigh or grit her teeth in frustration. She had spent years controlling her emotions, fighting the urge to make a natural reaction to something and for the most part, she was pretty good at surpressing things or keeping a neutral expression on her face. It irked people sometimes - to the point where their life mission seemed to be to make her smile or react. However, it was far easier to make her irritated and many students had succeeded in that.
Today was shaping up to be one of those nights. She wanted to scream at these students, scold them and expel them from the school because they were leaving her with almost no choice in the matter. Did their parents or guardians teach them nothing? It was ridiculous how little morality they appeared to have. But she held on to that tiny glimmer of hope that perhaps something was making them behave in this manner. She had never wanted students to be infected with hag slugs or cursed or face any sort of ailment but today, a part of her was hoping that it was something that could be explained. That they were children who just needed a little bit of help and guidance, rather than evil little monsters that were not allowed anywhere near the school.
With that hope, she walked without saying a word towards the hospital wing. She would walk behind Cash, who carried the unconscious wannabe Bellatrix Lestrange, after informing Ava to walk besides them - and in front of Hjørdis. She was behind them all for a reason. If either of the two young girls so much as looked at their wand, she would happily cast a spell on them to bodybind them. Ava had been warned of such. Cash had been told to inform the head of house if Thorn showed any sign of waking up. She was not messing around today, she was not bothering with kindness - or even politeness at this stage. If they had to be dragged to the hospital wing, so be it. This was for the safety of everyone else at the school. She would not tolerate any sort of misbehaviour from either of the two after one was attempting to murder another child and the other was an arms dealer who compared themselves to a serial killer.
Regardless of how they arrived, the four of them would get to the hospital wing - one way or another. Cash opted for a polite knock on the door. Hjørdis wasted no time. Their intrusion into the Hospital Wing would not go unnoticed by the Nurse as she practically shoved the door open with a flick of her wand, likely causing a loud noise. Her face might have been blank and her mouth might have stayed shut but her anger was evident in the way the door almost flew off its hinges.
She was about to start rambling on when Cash opted for being polite. Now was really not the time but Hjørdis waited, motioning to Ava where to stand in the meantime. The decision would be made for Ava if she was no longer conscious and she would be thrown onto the nearest bed.
Starting by motioning to Thorn, "This one was reprimanded yesterday for drawing a blade on another student, which was immediately confiscated. Unfortunately, it appears that she has 'plenty of knives and hatchets' on her and wants to compare herself to Bellatrix Lestrange. One knife was given to this one-" Her gaze flickered back to Ava,"Who tried to murder another child tonight." A summary, to say the least, but it covered the important details.
Attempted murder, likening to a serial killer and an arms dealer with a collection. Remorse was weak to none. Threats were even made. Frogge would know they resided in the same dorms as some of the former haglings and slug carriers - many of which were Slytherin. She did not bother to add that part. He knew. They all knew. "Lear suspects hags. Tell me otherwise." She asked him, not wanting another.
Her eyes stayed fixed on the girls, waiting for either of them to make a move so she could stop it. For a single second, it flickered up to meet Frogge's gaze. If he looked at her, he would see something he had never seen in her - a plea. "Give me one reason not to expel them both here and now." She demanded. The words were cutting, and her tone was sharp but in her gaze, it was clear that this was not a demand, it was a plea. It was her asking for any medical reason not to throw them out of the castle right now. Just one reason. Any reason.

A Break in the Monotony
The door to the Hospital Wing was not closed - it was kept open the great majority of the time, as every second counted in an emergency. Beside that, Nurse Frogge was already here to attend to the patients, so there was no risk of uninvited guests. Unexpected guests, however, were a regular occurrence. "Oh," said the nurse, furrowing his brow as a cascade of Slytherin ladies stormed the gates.
He stared, perplexed, as he was greeted in Spanish. "Is it what? I can't speak Spanish," he advised, with a look of concern. There was no concern about the interruption of his witching hours - he had plenty of time for witching when there were no unconscious children. At Cash's question, he stood and nodded, assisting her in hoisting the unconscious children onto some of the empty beds of the hospital wing. Perhaps victims of that sleeping curse that a few other students had come in afflicted with - simply cured with potions...
The story provided by the Head of House and her young assistant were far from what the nurse expected, however. Allegations of murder, bringing weapons to Hogwarts. The attempted murder must have been caught early, as they had not brought the girl's victim with them. This was something Polonius had prepared for, though he had not expected to ever exercise that training. A sort of crisis that wasn't so easily healed by magic spells - unless, of course, it was the result of a curse. Polonius would put the two girls through a variety of procedures to ensure that was not the case. Checking for scars, especially around the head, and an unfortunately necessary procedure of vomiting slugs to ensure no creepy crawlies had entered them. No strange artefacts or anything else he could see...
"I cannot see anything physically or magically abnormal with them," Polonius stated, pursing his lips. He glanced up to Jensen, hoping that would ease her mind regarding the fears of hags, at least, though it opened an entirely new catalogue of worries for them both. "I can't rule anything out definitively, however... it could be something that requires treatment... beyond what Hogwarts can provide. I doubt hags are a suitable explanation for why one of the girls brought weapons to the school."
The nurse returned to his desk, hastily scratching down some notes before folding them up neatly and tucking them into his pocket. A more formal recording of his recommendation - a referral to St. Mungo's, where they could be inspected more closely for evidence of some kind of mental manipulation. Some influence that could be severed. Or, ultimately, some kind of intervention that could see the two of them safe, if not particularly happy. "There are several potential causes... would you assist me in getting the girls on stretchers, Miss Jensen? We'll have to use the Floo to St. Mungo's - I'll have someone keep an eye on the Hospital Wing, we shouldn't be gone long at all. We'll have to notify their parents..."
Not providing much in the way of explanation as to why they should not be expelled - but to him, a shred of doubt about their ultimate responsibility in the matter was enough to at least delay an expulsion. Whatever was wrong with these girls, they were only children. Greater intervention was required than a school nurse was capable of providing in order to ensure they could be educated safely, without putting others in danger.
"This way, miss Jensen," said Polonius softly, raising his wand to hold the stretchers aloft so the pair could escort the pair to the hospital where the would be dealt with properly.

A Break in the Monotony
Hjørdis could only sigh when she heard the nurse's words, filling her with dread. For once, having the girls as hags might actually be preferable to them willingly trying to hurt others for no apparent reason. She almost wanted him to find something, for the sole purpose that it could be healed and they could be free of this.
Dreams of taking a month off, going to a beach and just tanning on the sand with a good book were quickly fading. There was no escape from Hogwarts. If she took a single night off, someone might get hurt. She could not sleep, nor could she rest. There was no break for her. This was her life now. It was... truly exhausting. Perhaps one day, Hogwarts would be safe again. Today was not the day.
Nonetheless, she said nothing. If Frogge had any questions, she would answer them. Her priority, however, was just letting him work as she pondered the situation, trying to put all of the information she had uncovered together. "Very well," She replied with a single firm nod as she immediately started to roll up the sleeves of her robes, not willing to get them dirty in the process of moving the two girls, "Miss Ironwoods, return to Slytherin immediately. I will be there shortly to help check the dorms."
She assisted in moving Thorn to the stretcher, followed by Ava to hers. She knew that they had permission from the Headmaster to use the floo network for this purpose (OOC permission given to godmod). It was the fastest and safest way to get both of the girls to the hospital in London as quickly as possible. Any other method would take too long or risk too much. After all, she had to also get back here as quickly as possible to return to the other Slytherin students. These two were not the only two she was responsible for and the collection of weaponry that was bragged about was not something she wanted to leave unattended. Other professors had likely already flooded the common room and dorms but the head of house was wasting no time in doing her part.
With zero hesitation and a lot of worries, she escorted the nurse and the two Slytherins on stretchers towards the Floo. What could not be treated here could hopefully be treated there. They were wasting no time in doing whatever they could and if this was the recommended form of treatment, she would take it. At the end of the day, there was nothing else she could suggest. At the very least, both Ava and Thorn might be able to get the treatment that they required and the rest of the house (and school) would be safe for now. At least from this.
As she walked, she could not help but worry about the rest. This was not over. Even now, it was not over. There was no guarantee this would be the end of it. She could only silently hope that St. Mungo's was able to find the causes and give them a cure. Until then, all she could do was do her best to protect the rest of the house. Tonight, there was no rest for her. After all, there were raids to be done in the dorm rooms and letters to write. She had no doubt that the Headmaster was also up, trying to deal with the aftermath of this. "Leave the notification to me. I will write to their guardians tonight," She decided, already outlining the letters that their guardians would receive.
How do you tell people that their child was caught trying to murder someone else? She did not know but that was something she would be getting some practice for tonight. They made their way to the floo network as quickly as possible, trying to get the girls the help that they desperately needed. On the plus side, this was now St. Mungo's problem.
OOC Warning:
@Ava Winchect and @Thorn Cullen have both in character been admitted to St. Mungo's for treatment from 9th January 2023 onwards. They will be undergoing treatment for several months, and will not be let out of the hospital during this time. At the earliest, you may be allowed to return, in character, on the trains after Easter break (around 16th April). This might get extended if you choose to roleplay the treatment not working or show no signs of change.
To clarify, you will not be allowed to roleplay in Hogwarts until you return. At the earliest, this will be after the Easter break but it might be extended depending on your character's behaviour. This means that you will not be able to join any events, sports or threads taking place. Your character is in St. Mungo's, receiving months of therapy.
If you wish to turn your character around, this is your opportunity to do so. You will be permitted to return and roleplay as a student once more.
If you plan to run a dark wizard story, claim that this treatment doesn't work or anything else then we are withdrawing this option. We are already breaking IC by even allowing you to return. We are placing faith in your word that your character would not be running around as some dark stabby-stab witch. If you choose to continue a stabby story or play a dark wizard story, we will expel you immediately.
If you say you do not intend to run a dark wizard story and then do (aka, you lie about it), there will be no gymnastics to save your PC when discovered. The OOC faith placed in you will be permanently lost. The staff have spent considerable time, energy and resources to save your characters. If you lie about it, we're not wasting our time and you will be expelled on discovery without any resources being used.
So each of you has a choice to make. This is your last chance. You can use this opportunity to turn your characters around or you can keep your dark paths and be expelled.
