Lakeside Afternoon Closed

It was early afternoon in the first weeks of class, Hufflepuffs and Ravenclaws being off for the afternoon swarmed the grounds with yellow and blue as the other houses returned to the cool stones of the castle for their last classes of the day. Groups of students formed out in the sunny grounds, some getting some reading in, others going over the latest gossip around school and the House Newspaper. A few dotted around the Great Lake books in hand, enjoying the sound of the lapping waves on the shore.

One such student is not quite so passive in her observations of the shore and is standing knee deep in the water her robes tied at her back to prevent them from dragging. She is reaching down into the shallows, bringing up small samples of algae and discarded shells and putting them into a large glass jar. She seems be quite focused on her work, her messy red hair died in a bun above her head and her tongue sticking out from between her teeth a bit in a comical look of concentration. Some fellow students pass her and exchange quizzing looks but decide not to ask the odd girl anything, some laughing under their breath at the "frog girl of the Great Lake".

May wasn't really sure what to do with herself. She had just only grasped a basic understanding of this whole new world. She needed to focus on something, something other then the idea of magic, and the homework she simply couldn't understand. She cautiously walked over to the shore of the lake. The lapping water helped her breath, and calm down. However, her mind kept falling into the ideas, and frustration she was feeling with herself and this place. When May felt stressed like this, she would do something that requires a lot of concentration, it took up enough space in her head to push out those thoughts.

May's eyes danced around the area, she didn't have a pen or paper that she could do math with (one of her favorite things to do). She noticed a bundle of rocks that were peeking out from under the water. Balancing was another one of those things that helped. She cautiously stepped onto the first. It was slippery with algae, but May continued, biting her lip as she went along. May passed a girl in the water that May vaguely recalled seeing in the Ravenclaw common room. May continued on, the rocks getting smaller and slippery, as she went along. She was free of her worries, and the crowds. And for the first time at Hogwarts she felt at peaceful.

Tuan whispered to himself while looking at his watch. He was in his History of Magic class. It was his last class of the day. After this, he will be free. "Ring...ring..." went the bell. Everyone started to pack things.
"Remember to do your homwork" said Professor Binns.
Students went out of the class. The corridor was filled with students. Red, yellow, blue and green were mixed-up. Tuan smiled to himself:
"Like a colorful picture!"
Tuan went to the West tower. Here the door leads to the Ravenclaw's common room. The Eagle head on the door saw him and asked (like it usually does):
"What gets wetter the more it dries?"
Tuan thought for a moment. Wetter?...Drier?
"Ah! It's the Tower!" yelled Tuan happily "Now open the door, please"
The door swung open and Tuan walked inside. Some students were sitting in the common room, reading. Tuan nodded at them and walked to his domitory. There it is. His bed is near the window so he can see all the magnificent view. He put his books in his chest and lied in his bed, tired. He didn't know what to do. Then he suddenly looked out the window. He saw the Great Lake. Some giant squibs were simming happily.
"Maybe some fresh air would make me feel good!" said Tuan.
He rushed out of the Ravenclaw's common room. He took 5 steps at once. Finally, he came to the Great Lake. He walked around to find a good spot to read.
"Wait! I haven't brought any books! What an idiot I am!" said Tuan, quite shocked.
So he chose to walk around instead. Suddenly he saw May-A fellow student, same house-. He saw her in his Transfiguration class this morning. He walked quickly to her.
"Hi May!" said Tuan, stepped on the rock "Gee, these rocks are so small and slippery"

May jumped at the voice of Tuan. She remembered him from the sorting ceremony, and maybe in one of her classes. May snapped around quickly to look at him, losing her footing, she stumbled and landed half way on a different rock. her legs and cloak were soaked. She pulled herself back on the rock, and looked at Tuan.

"Yeah, no kidding.", May grumbled slightly. It was unlike May to be even remotely aggressive, but she was annoyed. She was happy and peaceful for the first time, and some kid from her House tore her from that feeling. Her robes, that were already two big for her, felt incredibly heavy when they were soaked with water. She started to stand back up, the momentum change with her heavy robes was very off-putting, making it very difficult. She crouched back down, trying to make it look like she was sitting there on purpose.

May sighed, "What's up....Tuan?", May said, forgetting his name for a second. They hadn't really talked, but she heard his name during role call in another class. She looked back up at him, He had brown flowy hair that went every which way, and blue eyes, much like her own. May stared with a blank expression at him, awaiting his response.

Having filled a sample jar with algae Riven started towards the shore but was stopped by the sound of a splash near her. She turned, hoping it was the giant squid that had come to play but was surprised to see a female student out on the rocks near the shore, her robes drenched with water.

"Are you alright over there?" Riven called out as she waded her way to the other students, the jar of plant matter closed and tucked under her arm. She saw the blue of their uniforms and recognized them as Ravenclaw students, first years by the look of them. Their messy hair matched oddly well making Riven wonder if the two were siblings.

"Hope you didn't scrape anything, nothing hurts quite like a scrape on the knee especially with flying lessons coming up." Riven said concerned but smiling at the pair, now a few feet from them.

"If you have I am about to go to the Herbology teacher now to deliver my little harvest here, I am sure she has a poultice to fix you right up."

She smiled at both of them, showing that Hufflepuff hospitality to it's fullest.

May heard Tuan's called. She snapped incredibly quick to look at him. Then she lose her footing(of course that will happen). "Splash!" went down May into the water.
"Are you ok?" asked Tuan worriedly, wonder if it was his fault.
May pulled herself up and sat on the rock. She kind of glared at him. Tuan felt his body warmer and warmer and his face turned red. Looking at her robe wet, he felt more guilty than ever.
"Wished I could do something" thought Tuan.
Then he spotted a girl with a jar filled with algae. She looks so funny with her concentration. Her robe is yellow so she must be a Hufflepuff.
"A Hufflepuff girl and algae, could not be more perfect" thought Tuan with a secret smile.
A gust of wind blew past them. May must be shivering. The leave of the tree seem like whispering. A few birds flew and sang happily above of them. The sun shone down brightly. Some giant squibs were playing
cheerfully in the Great Lake.
"So peaceful!" thought Tuan, felling comfotable then he looked back at May"Oh, this one is not 'peaceful'"
The Hufflepuff girl walked to them and said she's going to the Heborlogy teacher and if they want to come along  so she can help May.
"Ok, sounds good" said Tuan"Coming May?"

"Are you alright over there?"
Oh no. Now more people were looking at her half drenched in lake water, and her small body barely even able to lift herself under the wet robes. May's face flushed red, and in a very unlike-May-way, she shot a look at Tuan, before putting her head in her hands. She rubbed her eyes, in an exhausted manor, then hit herself on the head, where a bruise was. However, she didn't hit as hard as usual, for she knew it wasn't entirely her fault. But if I was so skittish I wouldn't have fallen, May pointed out to herself.
"Hope you didn't scrape anything, nothing hurts quite like a scrape on the knee especially with flying lessons coming up. If you have I am about to go to the Herbology teacher now to deliver my little harvest here, I am sure she has a poultice to fix you right up."
May hadn't even thought of any possible injuries. She was so wrapped up in embarrassment, and bitterness toward Tuan, that she just simply didn't think about it. May rolled up her tight leg, which was fairly difficult considering it was wet, and sticking tightly to her leg. Sure enough there was a relatively deep gash just below her knee cap. On her other leg there was two smaller cuts. All of them were bleeding fairly well. It was weird that she didn't feel it. May just to full of emotions and adrenaline to feel it...until now.

May let out a small yelp at the sudden pain, her eyes automatically started filling up with tears. It wasn't thatbad of a cut, but the lake water didn't help. May started worrying about all the possible bacteria that could be creeping into her blood stream. What if there are magical wizarding bacteria?/i] May thought anxiously. Normally she would've denied such an offer, but the realization of the unknown and possibilities made her agree with a nod.
"Ok, sounds good. Coming May?

"Y-yeah." May squeaked, letting out a small grunt as she attempted to stand. The cuts were stretched and pulled in odd ways as she straightened her knees, before crouching down again, quietly whimpering.

"My name is Riven by the way, nice to meet some students from another house. Ravenclaw was the house that my mother was a part of some years ago."

She looks off in the distance towards the castle proper, thinking back on her mother's stories. A small smile teases her lips. She decides to give the injured girl something else to think about, get her mind of her pain.

"So have you too enjoyed your classes so far? I just cannot keep awake in History of magic. Transfiguration is fascinating to me as well as Potions though. Herbology reminds me of home, we live by a lovely loch with some great wetlands so I have been collecting herbs and berries for all sorts of things with my parents."

Riven flushes a bit, realizing she has been going on and on more than she expected to. Just feels nice to talk with other students her age for a change.

"Oh sorry about rattling off like that, I am a bit of a talker I'm afraid. I'll just go grab my things and we will be on our way."

She wades out of the lake water and goes to shore, taking a well worned leather satchel and tucking her collection jars into it as well as her notebooks and shoes. She returns running along the edge of the water still barefoot.

Riven kneels down and presents her shoulder to the injured girl.
"Take a hold of a shoulder if you have trouble standing."
