Reid did watch Bloom head to the lake, however he quickly looked away when she began to undress. This was the part he didn't really anticipate, it never truly occurred to him that they wouldn't be swimming in their uniform. Of course, how daft could he be to think that? Reid wanted to smack himself silly. The Hufflepuff slipped his hands in his pockets, finally glancing when heard the tiniest splash on the lake. Reid turned his head slightly, trying to figure out what she was wearing, a black bathing suit from the looks of it. Reid didn't stare for too long, it seemed odd of him anyway.

He looked back at Dymphna and nodded his head, "I'm decent at swimming." There was a bit of a lie on his end, he had a deep unseated fear of swimming, the degree of which he didn't really know. He was already rolling up his pants to his knees as Dymphna talked, nodding along.

It surprised him that she wanted to join in on the swimming, especially when she spoke of wanting to see the stars. But he was glad, it felt like an evening with his muggle friends back in Derby - except at night.

That and he was usually spending time playing football with them or fighting over which football club was the best. He too looked away when Dymphna began to undress, finding himself looking back at the lake. Reid folded his arms, looking up at the looming figure of the Hogwarts Castle. His gaze took him to the star speckled darkness, it was much easier to see than being in Derby.

The city's lights made it difficult to see, but here - it was crystal clear. He wasn't going to fully undress, he hadn't planned to in the first place really. But he did take his cardigan off, folding it and placing it on the shore.

His shirt was still tucked into his pants, yet tieless and unbuttoned at the top. Reid rolled up the sleeves of his dress shirts and jogged towards the edge of the lake. Once in Bloom's earshot, he called, "Is it called?"

"Trouble usually finds me."

Bloom saw Dymphna be the first to walk towards the water where she was. Bloom was happy that she was not going to be alone in the water, but then she also realized that while Bloom was wearing a bathing suit, Dymphna would be wearing her undergarments. Why didn't I just think of doing that? She thought, but in a way, she knew it would have been weird to not have a bathing suit when it was planned in the beginning between her and Reid.

From the corner of her eye, Bloom looked at Dymphna undress. Was she better looking than her? Bloom could already feel her mind comparing herself to Dymphna at all times. It wasn't her fault, necessarily, but the fault of her overactive imagination and her insecurities. Dymphna had asked if they knew how to swim and Bloom shrugged. "I'm decent," she answered. Bloom can only doggy paddle, but she wasn't going to tell them that as she was embarrassed that she never had a chance to truly learn how to swim like swimmers can.

Finally Reid made his way to the girls and Bloom smiled. "It's a bit cold," she said with honesty. She stuck her entire right foot in and soon her left. She felt a slight shiver down her spine, but kept going. She wanted to complete this adventure no matter the temperature. She made her way further into the lake. First her ankles covered in water, then her calves. She turned around and looked at Reid and Dymphna, "coming?" she asked playfully.

Dymphna folded her clothes as neatly as she could in the dark and tucked her wand into the pocket of her robes, not trusting it to roll away into the night, never to be seen again. It was slightly colder in her underthings and she hoped that the water wouldn't be too bad. Knowing that it likely would be cold, with Bloom's confirmation, she jumped in without feeling it first.

After the initial shock of it, it took a few minutes for her body to get used to the water. She was glad to hear that both of her companions were decent swimmers but she still wanted to keep an eye on them, as a precaution. She lay back, letting herself float and all her worries of being caught disappeared. The spontaneous adventure was exactly what she needed - now with friends by her side - after a long time of only studying since school had started.

Not sure what to talk about but feeling as though the silence might be awkward for the other two, Dymphna spoke, hearing her voice a bit muffled from her ears being under the water. "I've already invited Reid but I'm planning on having a study session on Saturday at one o'clock. In the library. Would you like to join us, Bloom?" Maybe Reid wouldn't care about having others to study with. The more the merrier, right?

Reid shivered as his skin came in contact with the abysmal cold of the lake, it wasn't exactly the most plesant thing he's felt. His arms were raised slightly above the normal as he moved closer into the water, he simply needed to balance just in case he stepped on something unnatural. In that case, it might be a large rock or a dip he couldn't see. Dymphna made a good suggestion, one he had suggested earlier when he first met Bloom. It was good it came from the actual ringleader of the group. "You should come, we could help each other out." he added, looking down into the water.

The water was up to his knees already, making the rest of his legs numb as ice. The boy rolled his toes against the shore below, smiling slightly as memories of visiting the lake with his parents came back. Reid had turned around, looking back towards the shore just to watch and listen. Yet he turned around again to check on the two of them, quite frankly surprised that they weren't freezing to death. A sudden 'scientific' question came to mind as the other two swam.

"Do spells work underwater?" he softly asked, trying not to be so loud. Reid hovered his wand just above the surface, "Lumos." It was a soft spoken spell, but it worked and illuminated the tip. Although he didn't want it to be seen and placed the wand into the water, it seemed to have gone away. Reid pulled his wand out of the water and tucked it into his pocket. He was actually beginning to feel hungry and he was standing at the shoreline like a lost puppy.

Yet he didn't mind so much, it was fun enough for him to see his friends have at it. "Don't go too far." he laughed, knowing how he sounded like some lifeguard.

Bloom covered her eyes when Dymphna jumped into the water. Ballsy, she thought to herself. However, seeing the Ravenclaw jump in, made her want to join in on the fun. Bloom walked faster into the water and toppled over to get fully wet. "AHHH!" she screamed, but quickly covered her mouth and laughed. It was beyond cold and it took a couple minutes for her body to change its temperature to make the water feel warmer.

"Of course I'll be a part of your group!" she said enthusiastically. She was very much excited to be a part of a study group that Reid was in. But also, she hadn't really gotten to know Dymphna and it was nice to see where she was in this newly formed triangle of friendship.

Bloom watched Reid test out a spell in the water and she laughed. She found it adorable that he was testing out magic while the girls were swimming carelessly in the dangerous lake. "Come on in, Reid. There's nothing to be scared of," she comforted, hoping he would think about coming in more than just his feet.

Bloom began to swim around and around, dog paddling her way through the shallow water until she stopped to float. Her back in the water and her front shown to the sky. She looked up and saw all the stars in the sky. Although the same sky it was very different from the city. She could see every star here. "It's so beautiful. I can see why you came out to see the stars, Dymphna," she said.

Dymphna was happy that her little study group seemed to be coming together with minimal effort. Weekend study group was a go. She made mental notes for what books to bring and any other supplies she might need but other than that, just enjoyed the company and her time at the lake. She hoped to become even better friends with Reid and get to know Bloom more. Perhaps they could meet again, outside of study group.

She wondered if she were turning blue. Her skin was already pale and she usually turned tomato red when on vacation to tropical places. At Reid's question, her curiosity grew so she stopped floating to witness his experiment. Why hadn't she thought to use the spell on the way down to the lake in the first place? It would have come in handy but honestly, she hadn't tried too many spells outside of classes yet. "Oh," she said, disappointed. It would have been cool to be able to see it glow underneath the water. There were charms that she knew of restricted for use only underwater -- the scuba spell, for instance.

Bloom seemed to be doing alright for herself and Reid hadn't gone too deep yet so she didn't feel any sense of urgency or anxiety. She looked to Bloom who was looking at the sky so she turned to do the same. "You can see every individual star if you use a telescope," she said, moving closer to land. Unfortunately, her body had adjusted to the water but now it was starting to feel cold again. "Are you two enjoying Astronomy class?" It had quickly become one of her favorites.

Reid had picked up a few stones that he had seen in the lake into his palm, listening to the girls as they spoke. "I like it back here, Bloom." he laughed, waving his hand through the water. It was nice, he had to agree, but he wasn't ready to face the frigid waters. Surely it was an exaggeration but he was cold enough as is.

He waded carefully just a bit away from the girls and dropped some of the stones he was holding in his hand and kept only one on each. "I like Astronomy to be honest, but I like learning about the names of the stars and their story. Some of them have some fantastic piece of mythos behind them. There's things I don't understand sometimes." he replied.

Reid drew his arm back and flicked the rock across the water. It didn't get too far. He also made sure he wouldn't accidentally let loose of a rogue rock that might hit one of the Ravenclaw girls. He scooped up another rock and turned just a little bit to the girls. "I don't have a telescope though, I've been borrowing one of the Hufflepuff lads' scope. I sent a note to my mum asking if she could just buy me a cheap one from that place - -" He gently tapped the rocks together, trying to remember the name of the area he bought his school supplies in.

It was on the tip of his tongue. "Diagon. In Diagon." he concluded, turning back towards his target area. Reid flicked the rock in his hand, letting it loose to skim into the fog. A gentle exhale left the boy as he heard it sink in the distance. Did it wake anything up? Did whatever was in the lake ever stir because of his shenanigans? "Makes me wonder what's in there." he grimaced to himself, running a thumb on the other rock.

He held the rock between his hands like a baseball pitcher as he listened to his two other friends. Reid wanted this to last, not the lake of course, but the friendships he's had so far and hopefully the friendships he has in the future. He wanted that group, it didn't matter who was in it - unless they were questionable of course. But either way, he savored the present and the people who were in it. This could change at any moment, but he was naive enough to believe that might not be the case.

Bloom flipped back on her stomach and dog paddled a little close to Reid. She had a small smirk on her face and gave a small laugh. "Well, now I know why you weren't sorted in Gryffindor!" she joked. She was a bit disappointed that he wouldn't come into the water. She wished that he was a bit more carefree, but perhaps that is why she liked him: he was the complete opposite of her in terms of security.

"Astronomy is enjoyable without the homework. I'd rather learn the background and see the stars without the essays that come with it," she answered Dymphna. Bloom, unlike other Ravenclaw's, had a disdain for essays. There was something about taking the time to write about information that can just be memorized. What was the point in writing the essays? It wasn't an English class.

Bloom listened to the two talk about telescopes. She did not even think about getting a telescope when she was getting her books and other necessities for Hogwarts. Honestly, Bloom did not really have a hobby. She was still figuring herself out. As the two were talking, she couldn't help but to look at Reid throwing rocks onto the lake. She probably stared his way for a bit that she had to get herself back into reality. Stop staring at him!! she yelled to herself.

She definitely hit back into reality when he asked what could be in the lake. Bloom, shivering at the thought, dropped her jaw. "Don't ask that!" she shouted, splashing water in his direction playfully. "Why do you want to jinx us?" she asked, now realizing a worry of him throwing rocks. What if he was waking up something deep into the lake? "Also, maybe you should stop throwing rocks...," she suggested.

It was nice to find others that were interested in Astronomy. Her dad working in the museum had first got her interested in the subject. "Me too. There's so much out there," she replied, the Earth feeling extremely tiny when she thought about all the other planets and what was yet to be discovered. "You could borrow one of mine," Dymphna offered. She had bought a new one for the school year but continued to use the one her dad had given her all those years ago. "The essays aren't too bad but I don't like the ones where we have to write too much. My hand starts to cramp."

Lifting herself up out of the water, Dympha held her arms around herself to fight off the chill. What was that drying charm her mom had taught her? It was something she wasn't allowed to use at home on the laundry but no one was here to stop her from using it now. Slipping her wand from her pocket, she pointed it towards her body. The blast of hot air took her by surprise but it did the trick, drying her underthings and allowing herself to dress again without getting her school robes soaked.

Thankfully she had already made it out of the water when Reid made an eerie comment about what lived in the lake. She looked towards her fellow Ravenclaw, hoping that she would come back towards land soon just in case. It wasn't something she had read much about -- the great lake and what creatures lived in it. It was something she would have to look into in case they ever went on another swimming adventure. The little trio seemed to be getting along, though Bloom had joked about Reid not being in Gryffindor which bothered her but she felt like she couldn't say anything, having a lot of the stereotypical Ravenclaw traits. It was only a joke afterall.

"Do you think we'll get to go to Hogsmeade this year?" Dymphna wondered though felt the answer would likely be no. First year students really got the short end of the stick. "I'd like to check out the bookshop. It's almost as old as the town itself." The 1700's to be exact. Her hometown was much older but any area with historical significance was interesting to her. "Did you know that Hogsmeade was founded when a wizard wanted to escape muggle persecution? Much like America, I think." How strange it was sometimes to be a Catholic witch but only if she thought too much about it.
