The Slytherin Table 2021-2022

"So they've heard everything?" Edgar asked, persuaded that what the Hat had said remained private. He wasn't sure he liked seeing his mindset exposed for all to see. It made him feel vulnerable, considering he didn't understand all of it himself. Was it the instinct of slf-defense that made him look out with more attention to the one talking to him? A pale-faced, darked haired girl, whose intense, soulful eyes made his heart skip a beat. That girl had something. A wisened glint in eyes that seemed to have been exported from a mage's face into a youthful visage, framed with a few wild, dark strands. Never before Edgar had bothered with girls. They had been a foreign, fragile... or too mighty entity. He would beat up boys, many of them much older than he was. But girls? So being seated right next to one... to this one, right after the key moment of his sorting was an unexpected challenge.

"Yeah, I'm Edgar... Father said it means 'noble spear', some medieval thing.".. and then she turned to the other boy sitting opposite her, and she betted they'd both be powerful wizards someday. A strange fire warmed him from the inside. He liked this girl. Was he powerful now, already? The idea of it made his head spin.

Suddenly, he felt like grabbing that girl and hold her, violently, against him, to make her part of him, and... it frightened him. So, instead, he clutched his thighs under the table and asked, a bit clumsily and looking awkward:

"Thank you... and what's your name?"

Olive. Olive Jones. - and as she said that suddenly the somewhat shy smile was gone from her face. She was still welcoming but there was a different depth to her voice and to the dark in her eyes. Was it a hint of arrogance? Or maybe slightly threatening? Perhaps none of those, but there was definitely something...else. And then it was gone as she started talking again.

Sorry, I have a thing with names... - and she laughed looking more relaxed and slightly embarrassed. I think they mean something important, influence you in a way, foretell some steps maybe. I should probably stop making comments about people's names, though. In case someone with a lame name overhears me and asks my opinion about their name... - she opened her eyes wider while looking to the sides when she said that. You probably think I'm a people pleaser just saying stuff to get people to like me. But I'm not. I say what I think. But I don't want to hurt anyone so if what I think isn't pleasing I prefer to not say anything. But that gets tricky when someone is asking me a question... I'm sorry. I'm talking too much! I talk too much sometimes... Well, nice to meet you, Edgar!

Then Olive turned around to look at the table, hoping for something else to happen and save her from the awkward moment she had just created for herself.

The poor girl had a good reason to apologize for, at least in her own opinion, "talking too much" - as Edgar unintentionally contributed to that impression by just sitting there, blinking cluelessly at her. Who could have guessed that no one had ever talked to him that much and that he just didn't know how to respond to a normal conversation? But it was about to be proven that for that, as well as for some other matters, Edgar would be a quick learner, at least in replicating behaviours that were expected of him.

"It's okay. You can talk all you want, I don't mind", he replied, "Cool English name, you've got. Like mine. That's one thing I owe my father. I'm glad my mother wouldn't have bothered giving me a name. I bet it would have been horrible. Is that mincemeat pie? I love mincemeat pie".

He reached out for some of the cut pastry of it and eagerly bit into it. The sweet, spicy mix was heavenly, it was nicely creeping through his senses like Olive's words about the importance of names.

"So you think names are like... I don't know, incantations or something? Like spells and stuff we're going to learn here at Hogwarts? It's a brilliant idea. It explains a lot, too. My mother's middle name was Asra ", he spoke through a huge bite of mincemeat pie, surprised at himself for effortlessly becoming nearly as talkative as Olive. "Means 'wanders in the night'. Ha! right, you're very clever. I say what I think all the time and if people bother me about it, I just beat them up. Gets me in trouble too, but I can't help it if they can't handle the truth."

Edgar looked out toward the teachers' table as the sorting seemed to have come to its conclusion.

"But now, I don't know. Something's changed. We're talking a lot and you're okay. It's like magic already I guess."

DATE: January 2023
TIME: Afternoon
PLACE: Astronomy Tower
INTERACTING WITH: @Guinvere Russetwood and @Renée Danvers
Larino was rather annoyed about what had happened, but Guinvere brushed it off like it was nothing. He always seemed to get annoyed about the little things like this- he just didn't understand how everyone else looked at it like it was nothing. She asked if it was Japanese, and Larino replied with: "Yes, it was actually." She did make him feel better, by saying how she is also bilingual, and that it's fine to speak in something nobody understands by mistake. He silently hoped she was right.

She then began to talk about flying lessons, and Larino picked up on how once she had to fly through bad weather, which, he had to admit, scared him a little. But he did like the idea of being up in the air, free to fly- very much unlike an aeroplane, which he had flown in countless times, where the only thing he could do was sit down for hours on end. "It'll be fun, though," He heard her say, then the two of them, with the addition of Renée on the other side of her, who had kind of left the conversation, continued to eat. Eventually, the plates of food cleared as the desserts replaced them, making him jump. "Guess I'll have to get used to that." He muttered, still being careful to not speak Japanese while he was there. He had promised himself that he wouldn't do that, yet here he was.

Guinvere had reassured Larino that accidentally speaking another language is fine, but he was still annoyed about it, since he'd promised himself that he would not do it. She told him about flying, and how it can be scary at times, which did make him a little afraid. When the plated magically cleared and were replaced with desserts, Larino jumped, and muttered one sentence. In English, thankfully.

Thorn was peacefully eating a bagel during breakfast at the Slytherin table. When suddenly owls swept in from everywhere dropping letters. Yes, mail time! she thought excitedly. A familiar owl approached them it was Viper the family owl had landed gracefully on the table in front of them. She patted the owl's head as she retrieved the letter from the owl's beak, he then flew off. She examined the letter it was clearly addressed to her and it was from her brother Basilisk. The problem was it was bright red which meant it was a howler. Before she even got a chance to open it the letter began to talk. "THORN JOESPHINE CULLEN HOW DARE YOU USE A KNIFE AGAINST A HOUSEMATE. ARE YOU TRYING TO SODDEN OUR NAME WITH YOUR VILE BEHAVIOR. I DO NOT CARE IF IT WAS A HALFBLOOD. YOU WILL NOT DO IT AGAIN." the howler then turned to her brothers. "AND TO THE BOYS WHO I KNOW ARE CURRENTLY LAUGHING, I AM NOT PLEASED WITH YOU EITHER, GOING AROUND SPREADING RUMOR THAT THREATEN OTHER PEOPLES SAFETY. YOU KNOW BETTER THAN THAT. ALFIE DEAR, I AM SORRY IF THIS LETTER SCARED YOU. YOU ARE NOT IN TROUBLE." the howler than burst into flames. She and her brothers were totally shook from what just happened.

Xaivier was sitting at the end of the table, eating dinner in silence, feeling anxious the looks he was receiving- well, that he thought he was receiving- no one was actually looking at him, he was just imagining it. “Well, maybe I should make some friends… but I can’t just ask someone if they want to be friends, so what do I do? What do I say? Will someone, anyone tell me?! he thinks, worriedly. He quickly turned to the people next to him… the seat was empty. He looked forward… nobody there either. He quickly realized that nobody sat near him. He sighed, and eats his plate of chicken, vegetables, and other foods. After a little while he finishes, and moves over a few seats awkwardly. He begins talking to a person nearby, nervously, and very worried that he’s making a bad impression

“Hey.. I’m Xaivier Rankus, a first year in Slytherin- well that should be obvious- and I like books, animals, learning, and cultures other than my own. I’m very nervous talking to you and I feel like this is awkward and I hope I don’t make a good impression so…. Uh.. what’s your name?” He says talking very quickly, saying things he didn’t mean to say.

-----Caoimhe walked through several dimly lit passageways featuring random bright flyers plastered on the stone walls advertising clubs, events, and other social activities of the sort. The corridors leading to the Great Hall were dull and lifeless in the evening time as Caoimhe concluded. Hogwarts students would breathe life into the space, but there wouldn't be a soul seen as most were eating or lounging in their common rooms. This gave the space an almost void and eerie feeling.

As the young girl approached the entrance of the room, there was an orange glow bouncing off the walls from the floating candlesticks and gargoyles holding small braziers that would radiate warmth into the emptiness around her. A couple steps closer and you could hear occasional shrieks, laughter, and conversations from students and faculty alike. Each of the Houses' flags waved gloriously above the tables as if indicating the assigned seating for the students as if the color-coordinated table runners' weren't a sign enough.

Despite all tables being full of warm bodies and heaping amounts of food prepared by house elves, the temperature was perfect with a slight breeze drafting from the large glass windows that combatted the heat. The Great Hall was always a sight to behold in Caoimhe's eyes. With every nightly visit Caoimhe would take to eat, her breath would be taken away stunned by such architectural design and decor that reflected approaching events or holidays. From the ceiling to the floor, there was never a single flaw to be found.

"Wow.." Caoimhe muttered softly while turning her head to take it all in again yet again. Above her head was a green flag stamped with the Slytherin emblem; her Housemates already sat and began their feast. Caoimhe walked briskly in between her table and the Ravenclaw's to find an empty spot. Cliques formed within Slytherin tended to sit in the front and middle of the long table (as far away from teachers so they could converse about mischief without being heard), but as Caoimhe continued toward the back she spotted a few empty chairs within the looming eyes of the professors. At the end sat another 1st year Slytherin; she remembered his face at the Sorting Hat ceremony but not his name. Caoimhe benched herself a couple of spaces away from the boy who was eating and did not want to disrupt him, so she began to prepare her empty plate with chicken and roasted vegetables before taking a sip of water.

"Hey.. I’m Xaivier Rankus, a first year in Slytherin - well that should be obvious - and I like books, animals, learning, and cultures other than my own. I’m very nervous talking to you and I feel like this is awkward and I hope I don’t make a bad impression so…. Uh.. what’s your name?"

Caoimhe set her glass down gently while smiling subtly at him: "My name is Caoimhe, it's my first year too," she began, "You're fine, all of this is overwhelming for me as well."
She took her fork and ate a small bite of broccoli before returning to the conversation: "Do you have any book recommendations?"

The Slytherin Table 2022-2023
Amy rushed down to the Great Hall, she was a bit late for breakfast. She sighed a bit, once she got there, she sat in a random spot in the middle, she didn’t sit next to anyone. She hadn’t met anyone. Amy grabbed some toast and put a bit of butter on it, that’s what she got everyday, even at home. For a drink, she got some orange juice in a small cup. She felt she needed to be energized for her day, she didn’t need fall asleep in any of her classes.
She didn’t sleep very well, she never did in unfamiliar places, she hoped that it’ll get better once she gets used to it. She was really hoping. She needed her rest, especially since she was learning a ton of new things. Her mother was never quiet with her magic, but she also didn’t say anything to her about it. She supposed her mother wanted to wait until she showed signs of magic, which is understandable, but it would’ve been helpful to have some knowledge of magic before she came to a Magical school, full of witches and wizards of all ages. She began eating her breakfast, her foot tapping under the table.

Kathleen did not sleep well last night, thoughts and hate were twirling in her mind. “Why did the sorting hat put me in Slytherin?... They say that the sorting is never wrong…So, is this decision a mistake? Yes, maybe it is a mistake… I think I should ask Professor Lear…No, no” she thought as she walked “No, if I find the Headmaster he will say that the sorting hat is never wrong, that will be pointless…” Then, she sat on the Slytherin Table, the Slytherins were welcoming her. However, she was not happy, she was disappointed by the fact that she was a snake. No discrimination here, but she always expected herself to be a Ravenclaw, with all the time she spent reading. She started eating, and she continued to pretend that she was fine. However, she was not in the mood to eat, really…She got some sweet things to cheer her up, but they did not work either. Thinking that she will stay in this house for the rest of her school life, tears were falling from her eyes, the others were chatting, so they did not notice her. After she finished, she ran to her dorm, locking the door…

For some reason, Magdaline was feeling.. different today. She wasn't feeling all that great today. Little did she know, the feeling she had was homesickness. She missed her older sister and her mother, and being away from home would be something that will take a while to get used to. She decided to head to the Great Hall for some alone time. As she walked down the hall, she was almost thrown off balance by someone rushing past her. She heard the person crying but was too caught up in her thoughts to do or say anything. Maggie resumed walking to the Great Hall. When Maggie got to the Great Hall, she saw @Amy Acree sitting by herself and noticed that Amy was overwhelmed with emotions. Maggie immediately felt like she had to do something to cheer her up. Maggie approached the Slytherin table and sat across from Amy. "Hey, I'm Magdaline. I assume you're Amy? I saw you sitting here, and you looked a little lonely. Are you okay?" Maggie asked Amy with a concerned tone. Maggie never wanted to see anyone feeling lonely, and she has always felt obligated to help cheer people up if they were feeling sad.
