───── December had just arrived, accompanied with thick snow falling, showering the grounds in white. The chills spread throughout the castle, making goosebumps appear all over Lilliana’s pale skin. She was especially sensitive to the cold, wearing layers wherever she went.
Today however, wasn’t one of those days. Lilliana had prepared a plan the previous evening as to how the day would go. Luckily, she had some freedom to do the planning, as it was the weekend. But, she had overslept, shattering her plans of a productive day. The first year decided to go to the Library.
It was a place that even just being there made her feel at home. It was full of books, which would have taken an eternity to get through them all. It made her feel excited of all the things there were to explore. The fireplace at the other end was inviting, and Lilliana planned to find an interesting book to read and then go to that section.
She strode over to a shelf, and put her hand on the spines of the books. Her eyes darted from book to book as she examined them. Lilliana pulled out a book, which was particularly heavy. She glanced at the title, and loosened her grip on it. That was a mistake. The book fell from her hands and tumbled straight down, directly onto her foot!
She winced in pain, eyes watering. She managed to stop herself from crying out loud since she knew it was frowned upon, but nearly fell to the ground at impact! Her breaths were shallow, and faster paced than usual. She bit her lip and closed her eyes tightly shut, trying to distract herself.
She picked the book up from the floor and held it to her chest, clasping it so tightly it hurt. She then walked as quickly as she could, to the fireplace, which was part of her plan from earlier. All of her plans seemed to get tarnished in one way or another today.
She was lost in her thoughts, she barely remembered bumping into someone else, which seemed more like a shove at the time, and a hard one too. She didn’t bother glancing back, in fact a look of annoyance was visible on Lilliana’s face. Why didn’t they move out of the way? Lilliana commented to herself, rolling her eyes.

An Unpleasant Encounter
Cynthia couldn’t even relax…A Slytherin girl just HAD to bump into her…ugh. She twirled around. The girl was already leaving. ‘Don’t you think you should apologise?’ Cynthia said, gesticulating dramatically and pointing to her books on the floor. ‘Of course though…’ Cynthia sniffed. ‘What did I expect from a Slytherin?’ That was definitely stereotyping Slytherins…just because they produced a lot of dark witches and wizards didn’t mean they were bad…in fact Cynthia kind of looked up to to the house. But she knew that Slytherins also hated being stereotyped.
Still, this girl needed to learn her manners. Cynthia stepped in front of her to get a better view. Blonde hair — very blonde, like white blonde, striking blue eyes, but with a tint of — melancholy? It looked as if this girl was not having a good day either. Never mind. Cynthia was not the most sympathetic. That was one of her traits that was hard to change. She glanced frantically for the girl’s nametag. Names have power. That was something she learned a long time ago. This girl looked like a first year — they were all supposed to carry such a tag. AHA! Lilliana Havenmore. Pretty. Cynthia knew her stature and tone must have been at least a little intimidating. This was a small matter — was it really worth the effort?
Yes. Cynthia would not disrespected like this. ‘Apologise, Havenmore.’ She said this with more force and dug in her nails a bit.

───── “Don’t you think you should apologise?” A voice rang. Lilliana halted, then slowly turned on the spot. She was facing a girl, who looked like a First Year, like her. They had short brown hair, was a Ravenclaw, and fixed her with a piercing glare, from what Lilliana could perceive.
“And why should I do that?” Lilliana remarked, raising her eyebrows slightly. It was just a bump, purely accidental. Why did she have to make a big fuss? Her posture stiffened, more than usual at least. The girl gestured to a heap of books lying on the floor.
This only made Lilliana annoyed. “So?”She said, placing her right arm on her hip. “There really isn’t a need to make such a fuss. It would take only a few seconds to pick that up.” She quipped. “I really wouldn’t see why you had to have interrupted my day.” Lilliana eyed the girl, a hint of frustration visible. She examined their name tag, which read Cynthia Beaufort. No, the two hadn’t met, but she might have heard her name before somewhere else.
“Of course though… What did I expect from a Slytherin?” Cynthia called. That was a blow. The fury was visible on her face. So was her attempt to control it. Which wasn’t working out the best. Her breaths were loud, her cheeks were flushed and her fists were balled up.
She had an idea of the bad reputation the Slytherin house had obtained over the years. Many people sorted into Slytherin had traits that were supposedly deemed evil, but she figured it all to be stereotyping nonsense. She hadn’t really thought much about it. Until now.
She tried to rid her face of the conflicting emotions swirling around, “And I expected a Ravenclaw to be less… Naive.” Lilliana spoke in an airy tone. Her sudden change of demeanor probably wasn’t the most convincing, but Lilliana ignored that. She learnt over time not to dwell on the past.
They stepped in front of her, and Lilliana noticed that they were a little like her. They way they stood, and the sharpness on their voice. It was a stance she was very familiar with. Lilliana’s sharp features made up for her height, which was slightly shorter than average. It sometimes made people back down from the threat of fights lingering in the air. But, this girl, Cynthia didn’t seem like one of those people. She’d give them that.
“Apologize, Havenmore.” The girl said. Well, this one’s stubborn. A tiny voice in her head proclaimed. That thought amused her, and Lilliana looked over to the side for a second and laughed softly. What she didn’t realize was that her laugh sounded taunting.
The Ravenclaw’s words did have an affect on her, Lilliana just did a good job at hiding it. Of course, she did better at hiding this than their remark about Slytherin’s, but Lilliana berated herself from that small slip up. It was a thing she had gotten used to. Hiding her emotions. Blanking her face into an expression she thought of stony, piercing even. Of course, expressions like those only appeared when someone agitated her, which was exactly what this girl had done.
“No.” She said. A no was a no, simply put. She shouldn’t need to apologize for something as measly as that. Lilliana was getting annoyed, and annoyed fast. The girl rolled her eyes, and she made sure to emphasize them enough so that Cynthia would notice. She sniffed, crossing her arms.
Lilliana was beginning to get a headache from this conversation. Great, she had built a schedule for herself to have a peaceful afternoon at the library, and instead, she gets ambushed by a stubborn Ravenclaw girl, who makes a big fuss about nearly nothing. Seriously, it was just a simple accident, how could it have turned into such a heated argument? Just great.
She decided she couldn’t take it anymore. Lilliana could feel the last thread starting to snap, and if she let that happen, the blond haired girl knew the wave of fury that would be unleashed, and she really didn’t need that happening now. Lilliana frowned, “Ok, I can’t even.” She remarked, pressing her fingers to her temple.
“This is just a petty fight over a bump. Who even cares at this point?” Lilliana sighed. “I saw we both go our separate ways, forget this ever happened, and get on with our lives.” The girl walked away from the scene, shaking her head slightly as she went. Maybe I can just go to sleep and pretend nothing ever happened.
Lilliana has left the thread.
