Hello, Old Friend

"Oh, come on now. It's never that easy," Paisley said, crossing her arms. "You won't even give me a hint about who you like? I don't know anyone, it's not like I'll care." She said. "Besides, I've got no one. All the boys here are...fine. But I've come to accept the fact that girls are just generally better-looking than boys. So it's not like I have anything more to offer you. Besides, you know everything about me, and I know nothing about you. How is that fair?"
As the friendly conversation continued, Paisley felt guilt gnaw at her stomach. Wren was being...nice. This whole trip was very nice of her. She didn't seem to have an ulterior motive so far, she had just wanted to show Paisley the view and say a couple of encouraging words.
Paisley swallowed her pride, and adjusted herself on the broomstick. "I'd like to say...sorry." she said, looking down at the treetops below. "Not for everything I've ever said to you, because you probably deserved some of it," she looked up and winked. "But for shouting at you a couple of minutes ago. You kind of made up for the werewolf comments with your inspirational speech. Just thought you should know."
She looked up and peered at Wren. She certainly is pretty. Paisley thought jealously. Compared to her, Wren was absolutely gorgeous.
"You really should clean off that blood with your sleeve or something, Dipper, you'll be looking like Harry Potter here soon." Paisley laughed.

Hello, Old Friend
"Oh, come on now. It's never that easy," Paisley said, crossing her arms. "You won't even give me a hint about who you like? I don't know anyone, it's not like I'll care. Besides, I've got no one."
"Well that seems hard for me to believe, Needles."
Paisley shrugged and went on, "All the boys here are... fine. But I've come to accept the fact that girls are just generally better-looking than boys. So it's not like I have anything more to offer you."
"Aw, too bad. I wanted to know." Wren paused, "Although, I wouldn't exactly disagree with you. The boy's here are just... 'eh.' No one is particularly interesting."
Paisley seemed to agree, "Besides, you know everything about me, and I know nothing about you. How is that fair?"
"Well, I think you noticed, but up till now we didn't exactly get along. Honestly, I'm surprised we're even doing this right now." Wren replied. She didn't know what it was today, but the truth just kept spilling out of her. Well, to some extent. Tomorrow seemed a frightening prospect. How could they have gone from no contact for a year to suddenly sharing their life's secrets? What was going to happen tomorrow? Where they 'friends' now, or was that just in Wren's mind?
"I'd like to say... sorry."
Wren almost couldn't believe what she'd just heard. Sorry? No way had Paisley, her (used to be?) rival, just said that. And yet there was no one else those words could have come from. Wren listened intently to Paisley's words, heart jumping every time she winked or looked into her eyes.
"Not for everything I've ever said to you, because you probably deserved some of it. But for shouting at you a couple of minutes ago. You kind of made up for the werewolf comments with your inspirational speech. Just thought you should know."
She took a moment to take it in. Thank you. She wanted to say it so badly, knew she should say it, but something prevented her from voicing the reply.
"You really should clean off that blood with your sleeve or something, Dipper, you'll be looking like Harry Potter here soon." Paisley laughed, thankfully saving Wren from having to say anything. She smiled slightly, slipped a hand out of her glove, and ran one finger over the cut. It came away clean, but she could feel the dry, crusted blood that had leaked from the wound earlier.
"We should probably go back to the castle. I bet you're pretty cold up here." she said, pulling the glove back on. Repositioning herself, she waited for Paisley to do the same. Once again, the broom shifted slightly before eventually mellowing back out. When the broom was stationary, Wren pointed it downwards and brought them to the front doors of the castle, this time without the crazy burst of speed. It didn't take long for their feet to meet solid ground again. The broom became a lifeless mess of twigs as they got off. Wren held it in one hand and pulled open the huge castle gates. Despite being a huge stone castle, a bit of warmth washed over them, and they quickly stepped inside.
""I'm going to assume you like hot chocolate because you'd be weird if you didn't." Wren started as she closed the door, "Although, you're already kind of a strange person, Needles. I'll be at the library in the afternoon tomorrow. I don't have a class then. If you wanted to meet me, I wouldn't object."
She almost felt proud for saying it. Knowing what she had to do next, she took a deep breath. She didn't want to hear Paisley's answer until something was out in the open.
"You asked if I was a werewolf, or some kind of creature. I... I'm not, but..."
Before she could try to back out, she took a breath and, in parseltongue, said, "I'm sorry I didn't tell you. I want to be friends. I won't let this... crush... ruin things."
She switched back to say, "Let me know tomorrow morning."
With her secret out, she ran down the hall towards the Gryffindor common room.
