So Edward had been matched with a Quill Pal for which he had signed up. After the first few months had passed by in no time and he actually did make a few friendly acquaintances, he was feeling confident enough for making another pal and had decided to take it slow, via letters.
He had only got the name, year and house of his quill pal: Hannah Blossom, 1st year, Gryffindor. OOC: I hope that does not count as meta gaming. I just assumed that it was given in the quill pal assignment. He was a bit unsure what to write. She was a girl after all and he was not even very good at making friends with boys, let alone talking to girls. Also Gryffindor was probably the most opposite of his character. He didn't think of himself as brave at all.
Anyways, let's start this letter. He thought and wrote:
He reread his letter and was somehow not happy about the results. Aren't this too many questions? But he really wanted to know more about Hannah. He also maybe got a bit too excited about the library and Hogwarts. He actually didn't want to admit that he had only learned to be a wizard two years ago.Hogwarts, 18th December 2022
Dear Hannah,
I am writing to you because we were assigned quill pals. It's nice to meet you.
I should probably first introduce myself. My name is Edward Foxe but you can call me Ed.
I am 12 years old and I really like books. Have you been to the library already? It's amazing!
Actually, the whole castle is amazing. Even though, the moving stairs can be quite confusing. How do you like it here so far? Have you heard of Hogwarts before coming here?
I did but I still find it really cool to be here. Especially all the books on so many different topics in the library. Also flying is great! Do you like it?
I am looking forward to your response.

He decided to send the letter anyways and see what happened. The response could not be worse than the bullying of the other students at his muggle school.

Quill Palls…
A nice way to get to know someone, wasn’t it?
Hannah had gotten assigned with a bot named Edward Foxe. He was a first year like her, but he was a Ravenclaw.
Hannah hadn’t actually meet any Ravenclaw’s except for @Ivy Morgan, in the Hogwarts Express, but they weren’t sorted yet, so this was going to be a journey.

It’s a pleasure meeting you too! My name is Hannah Blossom, but you can call me Hannah or Ann if you’d like. I am 11 years old and I love books!
Yes, I have been to the library, it’s lovely! I’m really liking Hogwarts so far, and I did hear about Hogwarts before coming here as my dad is a pure-blood and my mom is a part-Veela, they both studied in Hogwarts.
Flying is great! However, it’s not my favorite class, my favorite one is actually Charms, and Astronomy is my least favorite class. What’s your least favorite class so far?
Do you duel, play quidditch or broom race? Or do you plan to try out for something?

Edward had visited the owlery every day since his first letter to Hannah and he only needed to wait two days. He took the letter to his dorm and wrote a reply immediately, which he then owed her first thing in the morning of the 21st December. Maybe he was lucky to get her response before he was leaving for the Christmas break.
He sent the letter and hurried to class.Hogwarts, 20th December 2022
Dear Ann,
thank you for your fast response. I am so glad, you also like books! Do you have a favourite one? From the textbooks I really liked "Hogwarts, A History" and also "Quidditch through the ages", which I found in the library.
I did just join the Ravenclaw Quidditch team two weeks ago. I was so surprised since I am only a first year but there had been a slot and I seemed to have applied in the right moment. I am really looking forward to it! Flying is just awesome! I love it. Are you in any sports or have the ambition to join?
As for your question on my least favourite class, that is actually really hard to tell! I actually like all of them, except maybe for herbology. I really don't like to get dirty and you have to work with the soil. But I like learning about the plants. Only wish there would not be a practical part in class.
Now it's almost Christmas! I am going home and celebrate with my parents. I am looking forward to seeing them and eating cookies all day. Hahaha.
What are you doing over the Christmas break?
Depending on your reply, it might take longer for me to reply back. I'll leave on the 23rd December and come back on the 5th January.

As soon as Edward’s letter arrived, Hannah sat down and began writing it.
She finished writing the letter, and headed to the Great Hall for breakfast.Hogwarts, 22nd December 2022
Dear Ed,
My favorite textbook is probably ‘Hogwarts a History’ I liked learning about the history of the castle school. And my favorite book is ‘Tales of Beadle The Bard’ it’s a fairytale book for young witches and wizards. I read it when I was younger. I also really like ‘Quidditch Through The Ages’, it was something fun to read!
I’m actually on the Gryffindor Quidditch team. I’m a chaser, and it’s pretty nice!
As for your question about Christmas break, I will be spending Christmas break here at Hogwarts (my family would be hosting a ball, but they won’t anymore since I would not be home), so next Christmas I will be going home. I just want to stay this year at Hogwarts since Christmas is always complicated at Blossom Manor.
I do hope you have a great Christmas and a wonderful new year.

Edward was delighted to find another letter before he was going home for the Christmas holidays. The day before he had not managed to go to the Owlery since he had spent it packing his trunk. Now on the day of his departure, he managed to get to the owlery. He read the letter and replied:
It made Ed quite sad to read about a complicated Christmas. It had never been complicated at his home and he was so much looking forward to seeing his parents. He quickly sent the letter and hurried to the last classes before the train left for London again.Hogwarts, 23rd December 2022

I am happy to be able to send you a reply before I leave for Christmas. Thank you for the good wishes.
To be honest, I haven't heard about the fairytale book you mentioned. Maybe I do need to check it out, even though fairytales are for kids, aren't they?
So, you are also playing Quiddtich! That's great. I am only second string seeker but maybe we'll meet at the next match. Ravenclaw is playing against Gryffindor. Of course, we are opponents then, but maybe we can meet some time around the match?
I am sorry to hear that Christmas is complicated at your home. I've never been to a ball actually. Maybe I can bring you some home-made cookies. My mom bakes a lot and they're the best!
I hope you have a good time at Hogwarts then. Lots of time for reading or maybe there are other students staying to do a snowball fight.

Well, it was Christmas Eve, and Hannah was at the library, she re-read Edward’s letter a few times until she finally found herself writing a reply.
He’d probably be receiving the owl between the fourth and the sixth of January, that meant it would be 2023.Hogwarts, 24th December 2022
Dear Ed
Your probably going to receive this letter when Christmas is over (probably when you come back to Hogwarts or so). Currently,(when I am writing this letter) it’s Christmas Eve, and I hope you had a great Christmas!
I don’t think that fairytales are only for young children, an adult could very well enjoy a fairy tale book. But, well if it’s your opinion I’ll respect that.
I’d love some home-made cookies, but you don’t need to bring them. Well, my mom sends me some carrot cake muffins every month or so and I could bring you some! (Only if you’d like)
I’ll be participating in the snowball fight too, and yes, lots of time for reading!
So, how was Christmas? I’d like to know since for you it’s over already.

The Christmas feast was tonight, but not many students were staying at Hogwarts this time of year, enough that they only needed one table to sit, and Hannah was squeezed right in the middle. It was fun, since they had Hogwarts all to themselves.

The holidays were over and Edward was back at Hogwarts. On the evening of their arrival, he had found a letter from Hannah in his dormitory. "Oh wow, so they also find their way up here. I guess I don't need to check every day in the owlery then." he thought and was excited to read it.
It sounded like she also had a great time, at least up to Christmas Eve when the letter was sent. Edward was eager to report about his Christmas. It had been lovely to be back home again.
He took the time to respond to her that same evening still and send it the next day.
Hogwarts, 5th January 2023
Dear Ann,
thank you very much for your last letter. I hope that you had a wonderful winter break even after Christmas Eve, which you wrote was good. I wish a happy New Year. How is the New Year celebrated at Hogwarts? Do you have fireworks as well? Are you allowed to stay up longer?
We had dinner and then watched the fireworks of the city. We also had some few wizard fireworks, but only something small, so that the muggles would not notice.
I definitely had a nice Christmas at home. With all the activites and classes in the first few months, I had not missed home so much but as I got there again, I was really happy to see my parents again. Christmas had always been somewhat special for me and my parents both had taken the days off as well. We spent all the days together. I baked cookies with my mom. You'll find some attached. I hope you like them. They are from a new batch we made just this week, so basically they are New Year's cookies. Your carrot cake also sound very delicious.
I am also quite excited because my parent promised me an owl for Christmas. They wanted to let me choose, but sadly we didn't mange to go to Diagon Alley, so I'll get it next holidays. But I am looking forward to it. Then I might also be able to send you the letters much faster. Do you have a pet?
Now, I wish you a good first week of school again after the holidays.
