Library Shenanigans
She tilted her head to read the title of the book on the spine, small gold letters that she could barely discern. Pulling it out of the bookshelf, she flipped the book to read the blurb. Sounds interesting, she thought. Amaris then added it to the increasingly tall mound of books she was intending to borrow and read. She had always been a bookworm and whilst she never liked schoolwork before, how could she find magic uninteresting? Besides, she probably knew much less about magic than the majority of the students, being muggle-born. She would take whatever extra information she could get.
Counting the books she was carrying, Amaris supposed that was enough, she also wasn’t sure if she could carry much more as well. They were much heavier than they looked. Additionally, she would probably forget a few of the volumes in a crevice of her dormitory if there were any more. Amaris’ gaze wandered around, searching for where was meant to go to borrow the books. Awkwardly shifting the pile of books she was holding, she spotted the general direction. She began to walk towards it, rounding a tight corner.
Unexpectedly, she bumped into another person. Amaris stumbled back, fortunately not losing her balance. However, the mound of books she had been holding tumbled to the ground.

Library Shenanigans
Anna walked into a library, it took her long enough. She really should get a map of this castle, she got lost three times before asking someone where the bloody library was. And it was definitely worth it. Upon walking in the scent of books, old and new, hit her like a memory. It was grand, and of course magical. Shelves and shelves of unexplored knowledge awaited her.
Noting where the librarians desk was she set off on a search for books she hasn’t read, yet. Choosing a direction randomly she rounded a corner and bumped into a moving pile of books. Anna hit her nose on one of the hard covers, yelping she stepped backwards and rubbed her nose. The pile of books collapsed revealing a person underneath.
It was a girl that looked her age, with long black hair in a braid. Her gray eyes widened in surprise. Anna felt really bad and knelt down picking up the books that fell down. “I am so so sorry. I wasn’t paying any attention. Here let me help you”. Picking up the books she noticed one of her favourites. “Hey I love this book, you have really good taste”, she smiled putting the book on a smaller pile in her hands.

Library Shenanigans
Amaris’ gaze landed on what she had bumped into, or rather who she had bumped into. It was another girl that seemed around her age who seemed as surprised as she was about the encounter.
“I’m sorry, I wasn’t looking.” Amaris apologised. She probably should’ve been more careful rounding the corner, and now she made herself look like a fool in front of a stranger. At least the girl seemed to be quite nice.
She smiled as the girl began to help her pick up the books. “Thank you.” She too, began to collect the books that were in her proximity, stacking them back into the pile formation they were in before. Her attention was drawn back to the girl as she commented on one of the books Amaris had intended to borrow.
“Thanks,” Amaris said once again. “The description sounded interesting.” she continued, shrugging. She assumed that the girl in front of her was from a wizarding family, having had access to these books before. Or perhaps the girl was quicker on the draw and had came to the library earlier, Amaris thought. She debated asking the girl for her name. Whilst she wasn’t very social, it would only be polite after the girl had helped her.
She glanced at the girl. “Ehm, what’s your name?”

As Anna was picking up the few books, the girl joined her and stacked some back in her arms. She was also quite apologetic, it seemed both of them were too taken by the ambience of this library. The girl said that she picked Anna’s favourite book by just reading the description. Oh, that won’t do. But maybe she was Muggle born, would she have access to these books if she was? Anna shivered a bit, not knowing who you were and what you can do, and just being thrown into the unknown must be very scary. Anna straightened up still holding some of the books.
“ How about we walk to the desk together? I can help you carry these books, we’ll make sure no more accidents happen this way”, Anna giggled. “And I’ll tell you anything you want to know about this book, and anything else really”.
Anna was about to walk off, when the girl asked for her name. “Oh, sorry. My name is Anna. Anna Blackrose. What’s yours?”. Anna smiled politely. "I'd shake your hand, but as you can see, I'm one arm short", Anna giggled at her own joke. It would be so useful to know a levitating spell right now, but Anna's classes started later that day, and surely she would need more than one class to properly master a spell.

Amaris nodded. “Sure, thanks.” she replied as the girl offered to help her carry the books. It was a kind offer and it would certainly make carrying the books much easier. If only she knew a spell that could remove the physical effort of borrowing the novels, Amaris mused. Then, the whole situation could’ve been avoided. The library was also a bit disappointing to Amaris though her expectations were quite high. She had expected something…well, more magical with floating books, animated tomes and shifting shelves. At least the library had a peaceful atmosphere and contained hundreds of books Amaris never knew of, which already surpassed the libraries near her house.
“I’m Amaris. Uh, Amaris Levine,” she answered in turn. “It’s nice to meet you.” It was a strange feeling introducing herself by her full name, though she supposed it was only fit since the girl, Anna did so as well. She smiled at the girl’s joke. Overall, Anna seemed like a pleasant person to be around, Amaris thought.
“Are you a first-year?” she asked Anna. Amaris was pretty sure she was, but it wouldn’t hurt to check. She shifted a volume in the middle of the stack of books she was carrying as it began to slip.

She accepted Anna's help and the girls started walking towards the librarians desk, the girl introducing herself as Amaris. 'Wow, that's a pretty name', Anna thought and decided to say it out loud.
" That is such a beautiful name, does it mean anything?".
The books were getting a bit heavy now, how long did she walk for before bumping into Amaris? Now that she thought about it, Anna didn’t pick a book for herself. ‘Oh well, the library isn’t going anywhere, it’s too late now anyway, I need to get to Charms later’. Anna was again in her head nearly not hearing the question Amaris asked. She asked if Anna was a first year, right? Anna hoped that she heard right, it would come off as rude if she answered the question wrong.
“Oh, yeah. I am a first year. Am I that obvious? I’m in Ravenclaw, and you? I would say Ravenclaw as well if I have seen you in the common room”. Anna shifted the weight of the books in her hand. “Do you have something to do today? We could meet up somewhere quiet and read together if you’d like”, Anna smiled gently.

Amaris began walking to the librarian’s desk beside Anna. She shook her head as Anna asked about her name, feeling rather flattered that she liked her name. It wasn’t something you heard often. “No. At least I don’t think so.” she answered. She had never bothered to ask her parents about the origins of her name but had always assumed they picked the name due to how it sounded.
She wished the librarian’s desk was closer, the books straining her arms. At least Anna had been kind enough to help her, halving the effort needed. She had expected Anna’s response of her being a first-year student. “I’m in Gryffindor,” Amaris replied to her question. Anna was in Ravenclaw, the house that Amaris had thought she would’ve gone to at the sorting ceremony. She had a love of reading though she supposed Gryffindor suited her just fine. She never had worked hard at her old school so that probably contributed.
Amaris hesitated before answering Anna’s offer, surprised about her invitation. “Uh, sure!” she said. It wouldn’t hurt to make some friends for the long seven years at Hogwarts and Anna appeared to be enjoyable to be around.

Amaris didn’t know what her name meant, which is a shame because it was really beautiful. Anna’s eyes sparkled. ‘I’ll find out! Maybe she’d like to know’, Anna thought. Amaris was in Gryffindor, the house of the brave, looking at her you’d think that she was timid, but there was great strength in her eyes.
After a few moments of hesitation Amaris agreed on meeting up again. Anna was really happy. By this time they have arrived at the desk, finally Anna put down the books she was holding and shook her arms to regain the feeling in them. “That’s great! O, we can meet up for the weekend, down by the Great Lake and have a picnic. We can both pack some food, and our favourite book, and we can swap books and read each others’. It would be fun to share thoughts on them and enjoy some free time before lessons start to get serious”. Anna figured that it was time to head to class, and if she gets lost again she’ll need all the time she could get.
“I’ll be heading to class now. See you for the weekend. Bye, Amaris!”, and with a last wave she sped out of the library.

Amaris placed the books she was carrying on the librarian’s desk as the two girls reached it, relieved that they had arrived at the desk. She didn’t know how much longer she could’ve carried the novels. She nodded, listening as Anna started planning their meet-up. She was glad that the other girl had taken the lead on hanging out together. The idea sounded relaxing and interesting including their common interest, reading. Amaris had never done something of that fashion before though that wasn’t saying a lot. “Sounds good!” she said, feeling that she ought to say something.
“Alright. See you later. Bye, Anna!” Amaris said, waving as Anna hurried out of the library. She probably should also hurry up and borrow her books, lest she be late for her classes.
