the happiest season of all
December 28, 2022
Nessie's Christmas at Hogwarts had been a rather quiet one, at least compared to the Christmases she was accustomed to at home. And yet, she didn't think that was bad. Spending the holidays at Hogwarts was an experience in and of itself, and there was something about the castle that made the holidays feel even more magical. In fact, Nessie was still quite full of holiday spirit, eager for both the festivities and the break from classes to stretch on for as long as possible.
However, she couldn't deny that this was an opportunity to work on her studies, to ease some of the stress surrounding homework when the break was over, but also to ensure that her duelling was flawless in the upcoming next stage. After all, Nessie had used exactly one spell in her most recent duel - a very effective spell, but still just the one. Although the knockback jinx was a spell learned by first years, Nessie didn't feel bad for her (over)use of it, since she'd seen older duellists doing so as well, just not with the same frequency that she did.
What Nessie needed was more variety in her duelling, and now was her chance to improve her tactics. But before she could practice, she needed to decide what to work on ...
Which was why she found herself in one of the classrooms even though the school was still on holiday. Nessie wore a festive jumper and sat at one of the desks with her nose buried in a textbook, so intent on her reading that she didn't realize she was slowly pushing the book closer to the edge of the desk each time she adjusted her posture. Then, as she moved to turn another page, it fell with a thud!
"Oops, sorry!" Nessie squeaked before she could stop herself. Had she really just apologized to a textbook? Yes, yes she had. She sheepishly reached to retrieve the book, sighing.

It is the time of puddles that become transient skating rinks and for her thoughts to remain cozy within a woolen hat. It is the time when the sunniest of days are warm even in when she can see her breath rise as neat and pure vapor. It is the days of quiet poetry forming in my soul as if it calls to the spring flowers that will soon blossom.
Ayuna groaned when she reached the door of a classroom. Always a playful soul, the girl was reluctant to study and write the loads of homework that she had left out. She would much rather run around on the snowy ground and make snow angels or get into a snowball fight. There were much, much more fun things to do instead of studying and writing homework. Heaving a sigh, the girl opened the door and trudged into the classroom, head down, lips curling into a frown.
THUD! the sound of a dropped book made her jump. Raising her head, Ayuna saw another girl who had brown hair and was apologizing- to a book? Smirking, she walked over, "Hi there!" she smiled, Studying here too?

the happiest season of all
Already startled enough by the sound she'd accidentally caused of textbook onto castle floor, Nessie was not expecting to hear someone speak to her. She jolted at the sound of the voice, and did a double take, looking around to confirm that the girl was speaking to her. After all, people didn't really say hi to Nessie all that often. Especially people she didn't know. She liked to think she was a kind person, but she was a bit shy so she certainly wasn't popular.
Surely, the girl was talking to someone else ... ?
But Nessie didn't notice anyone else nearby, and when she looked back to the girl, she hesitantly returned the smile.
"Hi," replied Nessie. "Trying to study, yes!" she agreed, frantically thinking as she tried to figure out why the girl had approached her. Had the girl heard her drop the book? Had Nessie caused a disturbance? Did she owe an apology to an actual person, not just the textbook that she'd apologized to on impulse? This was embarrassing, and Nessie was starting to wish that she'd studied in her dormitory instead. Maybe she would try that next time, but for now she felt as though she should say something to try to make amends.
The young Hufflepuff's face reddened, just a few shades away from the color in her holiday sweater. "I'm sorry if I bothered you with the noise. I'll be more quiet from now on, honest," she promised.
