to say guinevere was having a bad day was to call the ocean deep. first, she had woken up with the worst hair- it stuck out at all the wrong angles and just would not lie flat.
then, at breakfast, she had spilt her pumpkin juice all over the table. thankfully, it was almost empty, but it was still terribly embarrasing.
at the end of the day, she had tripped eight times over various things and had mountains of homework to catch up on, so, why not go up to the library and do some of it? what could go wrong? so after going down to her dorm room to crash on her bed for a few minutes, she went to the library and took a seat at a table next to a bookshelf. apparently, at this time of day, the library was quite filled, and just as she was standing and reaching on the floor to retrieve the quill that had fallen off her desk, a ravenclaw girl around her age brushed past to get to a bookshelf and stepped on her hand.
"bloody hell," she spat. "watch it! that was my hand, ravenclaw! are you blind?? jjinja! seriously!"
she reached out once more to get her quill back on the table and sat up. "i think i need an apology."

Ebony was fed up. Firstly at her "friend" who lived across the street who hadn't replied to the letter she had sent over two months ago. They couldn't be called actual friends, but they were neighbours and sometimes they talked. Just a little bit. Neither of them were very social people. And then thinking about her neighbour and of home just made her think of her prissy cousin and those bullies
Her homework had been finished off that morning in a rush, making Ebony as snappy as ever and putting her in a horrible mood. She had started off grumpy, but now she was fully angry.
The girl had a bit of an anger issue and teenage mood swings that she was starting to get didn't help at all either. One moment she could be hugging her best friend and feeling sweet, but the next she would be feeling bitter to everyone, literally just everyone in the world. And the part she hated the most was, she couldn't control it. She wasn't exactly proud of her self control, but it was something she wanted to improve on.
Apparently now mad at both herself and everything existing, she went to the library to let off some steam. She was a little worried that if she went outside to the Great Lake she would just plunge headfirst into the icy water in a tee and get frostbite (or something crazy like that), so she settled on the Library. She seemed to be in here more this year. Not to study, but just for a quiet place to be. But today, she didn't expect her day to get even worse.
And it was all because of annoying Slytherin girl. The only thing Ebony did was step on her hand. Like, it wasn't even a big deal! And the girl wanted an apology. And she spoke in a weird language, not to add. "Jeez! You don't have to make such a big deal out of this. It was an accident. No, I am not apologising; at least not to you. If nobody is going to apologise to me, why should I apologise to anyone?" she snapped when the girl had asked her to say sorry. Ebony rolled her eyes. The last part wasn't particularly referring to the Slytherin girl, or anyone in Hogwarts, but more to people back at home. She wasn't sure why she was so fussed about it; it's not like they ever apologised to her before; but she was just feeling frustrated, and this girl was just getting the other end of it. Not that she didn't deserve it.

Bristling, she wrirled on the girl. "Why should I apologize to you? It's not like I immediately dropped a book on your head!" She wasn't quite sure why she was getting so pissed. It was simply that this girl, Ebony Vetra, as she remembered from classes, would not just say a sorry! Was it so hard?✦ annoyance at its finest ✦

Well... dignity was a fragile thing.
Anyways! Guinevere was right and Vetra was wrong. That was all there was to it, and she would make sure the Ravenclaw knew not to mess with her again.
"I'm not making a big deal out of this! And I should hope it was an accident! What Ravenclaw is stupid enough to randomly step on people's hands? Just say the damn apology, Miss Vetra, and we both leave each other alone," said Guinevere with mock politeness. "I don't have all day."
She was, in fact, to tired to be properly angry with the other girl. It was just irritation and annoyance that her hand- her casting hand, in fact, was red and marked, and that Ebony Vetra could not bother to even apologize. Basic courtesy and manners, people! She rolled her eyes. Ravenclaws these days; even more haughty and stuck up than her after Slytherin's recent House Cup win.

This girl didn't deserve any words, let alone a "sorry" that very rarely came out of her. She was an unapologetic person. Deal with it. But when Guinevere Russetwood went on to offend her further and throwing her house pride into the mix, Ebony already fragile stick of self control snapped.
"And what Slytherin is so evil and stuck up they can't just admit they're not right? What a big ego. You know, I've always thought people in your house were nice, despite the stereotypes, but you're proving me wrong," she shot back, her voice not raising, but she could barely contain the menace that threatened to surface. Just this time last year, Ebony found it hard to even open her mouth and say something for herself. What was wrong with her now? She knew not to offend people, let alone their house. Yes, she had dark thoughts, or angry body movements, but last year she was no talker. Why had everything changed in just a year? She just... felt like letting her feelings out. She was tired of bottling everything inside just so the people around her would feel better. And the fact that she was constantly angry was no help either.
Ebony invited herself to take a seat opposite the Slytherin girl, glaring at her. She was in no hurry, anyways, so she wouldn't leave until the girl admitted she was wrong, that it was just an accident and that Ebony shouldn't have to apologise.
