| ─── | Kim was lost.
Within the confines of his own mind and dreaming about a certain girl with red hair, well it was now blue. "Kim, gimme your bag!" A familiar voice whined and she snatched it from his grasp to dig into the satchel. She pulled out a marshmallow biscuit, devoured it within seconds and then stuffed her hand in again to pull out a soft caramel. The sweets started to get all over her lips and a look of blissful contentment could be seen on her face. So delicious! Within the dream, Kim couldn't help but smile at her and shake his head a little at the sight of Sophia indulging in sweets. A pout came to the girl's lips as Kim teased her a bit. About being a glutton. She leaned over to riffle through his pockets, searching for more candy. The scene abruptly changed and the events of the Blossom Ball played inside his mind's eye. It had been when he'd played a prank on her, with his nose-biting teacup. More memories came flooding into his mind and a series of shots, as if from a wizard camera, played inside his mind as he remembered all the memories he'd shared with Sophia. The girl who had almost been like a sister to him but at the same time she had also been more. He hadn't realized it until now. But truthfully, deep inside, Kim had harbored certain feelings towards her. Ones that mirrored her own. She'd confessed to him in the past but he hadn't really known what to do about her feelings for him. He'd been uncertain. She'd backpedaled. And as a result, she'd found out about his crush on Rabbit, the boy he'd called Stalker back then. Thankfully, their relationship remained intact afterward, despite him not reciprocating her feelings. At least not vocally that is. They'd even gotten much closer too, despite his upbringing warning him not to get too close to anyone. The scene changed into summer, memories of them. Sophia had been quite active during summer camp, something Kim had worked hard on setting up with the others in charge. He'd been relieved that she'd enjoyed herself for the most part. But the culmination of summer camp had been near the end, when two things had happened that had stuck with him. One, he'd had his first kiss stolen from him by Stalker, after which he'd started to affectionately call him Rabbit. It hadn't been intentional. Well, not really. He'd known what he was doing at the time. But it had been a game. A game where he hadn't known the rules. And thus, had done that to him. The two of them had became extremely awkward after the private game. Things became strange and the two hadn't seen eachother since then. The other thing had been regarding Sophia. The girl had come crying to him, asking for a favor from him. She'd begged him to date her for a time. If only to prove to herself that she was still straight, despite the kiss she'd shared with a certain girl. Kim had agreed, not being able to say no to Sophia when she was in a state like that and their relationship had begun, although no one else knew about it. The scene changed again to the day of the fall Faerietale Ball. Sophia had been extremely excited about it, even though she'd told him she'd be leaving the following morning. She'd talked nonstop about it to him for quite a long time, even going so far as to say that this would be a perfect memory to end with before she left the castle. Kim had mixed feelings about this, he didn't want her to go but at the same time understood why she had to. He'd planned out an elaborate going away party for her, one where the only guests were her and him. After all, she had made him give his word. To not to tell anyone about her departure, and reason for her departure, for as long as possible. Therefore, Kim had planned to make her last night special and had gone all out to give her the best night ever. However, she'd ended standing him up at the ball and had vanished without a word from his life. He supposed that was what had traumatized him. Perhaps even broke him a little. The dream suddenly shifted and a vision of Sophia crying out for help to him reached his ears. What on earth?! The orange haired teen suddenly shot up out of the bed he was on in the hospital wing, his blue eyes wide. "Sophie!" He exclaimed. Kim had unintentionally reacted to what he'd seen in his dream, calling out to her by the nickname he'd started to use a few weeks before his second year had started. |

Broken Dreams
Blue in English, Red in KoreanEun-ji didn’t rush too much. She knew Kim would need to be taken care of first and she didn't want to interfere with the healers' work. Her parents always told her not to get in the way while they worked so she made sure to stay away until the treatment was done. Besides, the young Gryffindor had plenty friends, it was highly likely she wouldn’t be the first one to arrive. The witch didn’t plan on lingering too long if his other friends got his back but she wanted to check on him anyway. Just to see that he was truly all right.
To her utter surprise however, Eun-ji did end up being the first to arrive. Perhaps others decided to be more polite and wait for the duel to end properly before leaving… or maybe they just panicked upon seeing the boy collapse. Personally, she was used to witnessing far worse injuries so the sight didn’t influence her calm and collected demeanour in the slightest. When Eun-ji approached his bed, she saw the boy was all taken care of and he was sleeping. Good. He needs to rest. She nodded to herself before examining his face further. It appeared his nap was somewhat restless. The witch wondered what he might have dreamed of and whether she should wake him. It was never good whenever she was this restless in her sleep. Usually that meant the darkness brought forth another nightmare or a bad memory but she couldn’t be sure if that was the same for Kim. Sighing, the Ravenclaw elected to sit beside his bed and wait for him to wake up on his own.
"Sophie!" Thankfully, the witch was not startled by the sudden reaction but it definitely made her think. That’s right, Kim used to hang out with her fellow Ravenclaw all the time. The one that disappeared so suddenly. She never bothered to inquire about her whereabouts since the two of them hardly ever spoke but this was enough for her to understand that Kim still missed her. The scene instantly reminded her of Elspeth. Her own best friend and roommate, who had also disappeared after her first year at Hogwarts. At least Sophia was here for a few days of her second year…Elspeth didn’t even say goodbye in person. Just a simple letter filled with apologies and excuses. Eun-ji had a little breakdown about it later but besides Callie, nobody was there to witness it and she never mentioned it to anyone else. “I promise, it gets better.” She said calmly and perhaps a bit distant as she tried to recollect Elspeth’s gentle features. It was hard. She realised instantly. So much has happened since then. Her whole second year was spent remembering the young girl and trying to fill the gap she had left in Eun-ji’s heart and yet… “I can’t even remember the colour of her eyes anymore.” As she said this, she finally met the Gryffindor’s eyes. Her gaze was filled with quiet understanding. Not only did she experience the same thing during her second year, she had also hurt Lucia just a couple days prior to this. Effectively making sure she lost another even more important friend.
She would not elaborate any further after that nor did she push him for details. Kim was smart; he would understand or ask for explanation if he did not. Eun-ji was not someone to pry. There were people that liked to coax their friends into talking. Talking about feelings was good apparently but no one taught her how to do so. She was a great listener but she always waited for the other person to take the first step if they wanted to talk. “How are you feeling? Tired?” The Ravenclaw was aware that she didn’t sound overly worried. Her bedside manner was not the best. She had spent most of her childhood in hospitals and grew a bit numb when it came to injuries. At least those that weren’t too serious. “I’m sorry. Talking to patients is far too familiar task for me. I kind of wish someone else got here before me. Their reaction probably would have been far more appropriate.” She explained apologetically. Then again, while most patients appreciated the full force of their friends’ concern, there were those that welcomed her calm attitude. Perhaps she would be lucky and Kim wouldn’t mind too much.

| ─── | Kim blinked.
He still wasn't quite awake. Well, he was. But he wasn't at the same time. The poor teen's brain was overloading. Where was he? What was going on? Where was Sophia? It was only when Eun-ji spoke, her words calm and a little distant, that Kim turned his head to see the girl. She was sitting by his bedside. It took him a few seconds to process what she'd just said and then his eyes fluttered, a sign of nervousness. "What - " Kim started to say, about to deny that there was anything wrong with him. But Eun-ji's next words made his brow furrow. She'd known Sophia? How well had she known the redhead? Well, former redhead. She'd turned into a blueberry cupcake for the start of the new school year. Memories came flooding back, even though he tried not to let it bother him. After all, Eun-ji was in the room with him now. Kim didn't know what to say as Eun-ji spoke again, this time mentioning something about not being able to remember someone's eye color. Could she be talking about Sophia still? He thought back and instantly remembered the color, but it wasn't as if he'd been obsessing over the bluehead girl. Of course not. He was silent for a time. But then broke the silence by giving Eun-ji the answer to her question, whether it had been rhetorical or not. "They were blue. Like her hair. It's probably why she chose to try out blue for the new school year. It would match with her eyes." Kim told Eun-ji, in case she was talking about Sophia. He let his own blue eyes flicker over the girl before him. The teen couldn't quite tell if Eun-ji had been referring to Sophia or someone else. She hadn't really been that specific. But he wasn't going to pry for more details if it wasn't, that was her own business. If she wanted to share it with him, she would. Without him having to ask. And if she didn't, she wouldn't. Simple. Kim glanced down at himself as Eun-ji asked how he was feeling and was reminded that he was in the hospital wing now. Right. He'd probably been taken there after the duel had ended. Come to think of it, how had it ended? Kim still didn't know. Could Everly have recovered her focus and brought them a win? Or had things gone downhill since then, which would have resulted in a loss for Gryffindor? Kim assessed himself and his current state. He felt alright, not that good but not that bad either. "I'm alright." Kim said. "But what about the match? Who won? Did Everly manage to bring back a win for us?" The orange haired teen asked Eun-ji, hoping for the best but expecting the worst news. After all, things hadn't really been looking that good for them when he'd still been participating in the duel. As Eun-ji spoke of her familiarity of talking to patients at their bedside, Kim shook his head a little. "I'm glad it's you that's here. I don't really feel much like talking or expressing my feelings. You seem to inherently understand this and appear to be similar to me. It's comforting in a way." Kim said. "You know what I mean?" He asked and waited for Eun-ji's response. |

Broken Dreams
Blue in English, Red in KoreanKim was obviously still disoriented and couldn't keep up with her first words. It was okay though. They could talk about this later. It was a heavy topic and Kim was about to learn that on top of being knocked out, he also lost his first duel of the season. That alone was bound to dampen his mood. “Blue is a good colour.” She said simply without elaborating any further. They could just leave it at that for now and focus on the reason he was here instead.
Asking about his state appeared to have drawn the boy out of his haze. He checked his surroundings before finally replying to her inquiry. Eun-ji nodded, seemingly satisfied with his answer. While she never ended up knocked out, she suffered numerous blows and burns during her duels so she knew approximately how he felt right now. It was not pleasant but the magical healing did wonders when it came to injuries.
“But what about the match? Who won? Did Everly manage to bring back a win for us?” As expected, the next question was about the outcome of his duel. Kim always strived to do his best so it was only natural he wanted to know. This time Eun-ji shook her head. “I left after they carried you out but I heard Bridget ending the duel as I was walking out.” Her tone was calm though she was still a bit frustrated with his teammate. “I’m not sure what happened to Everly today. It’s not like she was duelling for the first time.” A small disapproving frown appeared on her face as she said this but it was gone as soon as it came. “It’s no use sweating over it. You were pretty good out there but there is only so much you can do when your partner lets you down like that.” Thankfully, she herself had never experienced anything similar.
At last, the young Gryffindor reassured Eun-ji that her bedside manner suited him just fine. That was good to hear. It was not like she could adjust her approach freely based on the other person’s preference. “Yes…I know what you mean.” The Ravenclaw confirmed without hesitation. It was not a healthy attitude…or so people kept telling her… but what could they do? Such nature was extremely hard to change. “Charles asked me to let him know how your duel went…” She shifted the topic elsewhere. “Should I tell him or not?” It was only polite to ask although she didn’t doubt Charles would get suspicious if she tried to gloss over the matter. They were best friends after all. He would find out eventually but it was not her place to decide if or who told him.

| ─── | Kim nodded.
"Mm." He replied in response to Eun-ji's remark about how blue was a good color. It really was. But it didn't answer his initial curiosity as to whether or not Eun-ji had been referring to Sophia or someone else. At any rate, it didn't matter much to him right now who she'd been talking about. Kim didn't want to think too much about the girl who had been so close to him and was now gone. Eun-ji had been smart to ask how he felt but the teen didn't seem to feel bad at all. At least for now. But that might have had something to do with the slight spike of adrenaline he'd experienced upon waking up from the nightmare about Sophia...... Already, Kim could feel a sense of tiredness overcoming him as the adrenaline faded. But he pushed it aside. As Eun-ji went on to explain what had gone on in his absence, he let out a brief sigh upon hearing news of his loss. "A lovely start to the new school year..." He murmured, almost to himself and then forced a slight 'smile' onto his lips as he looked over at Eun-ji. "But it's fine! I'm fine! There's always next time to claim a win over my opponents!" Kim said, trying to convince Eun-ji that this loss didn't bother him. Not much at least. "At least it wasn't my first duel, or I might never get over it!" Kim tried to joke with her a little. "I still have memories of my first official duel, it's something I'll never forget. Galton actually is quite a talented duelist. I learned quite a few things from him. Hopefully, I'll get a chance to partner up with him again at a later date." Kim remarked and reached up to rub his forehead a little. "Hm, maybe I'm not completely healed yet, my head is starting a hurt a bit..." Perhaps he'd give it another few hours and then try and stand up and leave. He was also getting tired too for some reason. Maybe it was his body's way of telling him to rest more. As Eun-ji asked about whether she should tell Charlie about his duel and its results, Kim let out a sigh and shrugged his shoulders. A loud crack was heard a moment later. "Ow." He exclaimed and grimaced. Blinking, the orange haired teen looked back up at her and reached up to scratch his head a little. "You can tell him. He'll find out one way or another as the results of duels are broadcasted all the time." Kim told her, not caring if Charlie found out now... The two boys were really close to eachother and could tell eachother things. Their victories and losses were not to be kept secret between them. It was something they'd promised. Kim looked over at Eun-ji again. "It's good that we've never been matched up with eachother as of yet. We'd both end up in the hospital and then who would come see us?" He tried to joke again. |

Broken Dreams
Blue in English, Red in KoreanThe previous topic was dropped rather quickly as neither of the two involved could communicate their feelings clearly enough. For Kim it was probably still too fresh and his mind seemed to be a bit hazy from sleeping and Eun-ji simply never knew how to voice out her feelings. It was something she needed to work on for sure but now was not the time.
“A lovely start to the new school year...” The patient complained after learning the result of today’s duel. He did smile but it didn’t quite reach out his eyes. An expression, the Ravenclaw was very familiar with. He did quite a good job though. Most people probably wouldn’t notice how strained it was. The witch chuckled quietly despite her best efforts. It was almost like looking into the mirror. I’m okay. It’s fine. Nothing to worry about. How many times had she thrown those words at her own friends and family? It usually worked too. Oh well, she wasn’t going to blow his cover. “True, there is always next time. If our times don’t clash, I’ll go see your next match in January and hope for a fair fight.” This was a promise. If Eun-ji said she’d be there, she’d be there. “In any case, winning your first official league duel doesn’t guarantee happiness either. I won mine but was on fire for most of it. It was a rather haunting experience. Coincidentally it was the work of Julian Pritchard. He was an opponent for my first duel too.” She revealed with a smile. Thankfully Kim’s memories of his very first duel didn’t seem to have the same effect on him. If he wanted to face his opponent again, it was most likely quite interesting experience rather than a painful one.
When the young Gryffindor voiced out his decision to stick around for a bit longer, Eun-ji nodded approvingly. “That is a good idea. You need to rest well and let the body heal.” She still remembered herself running around the infirmary with a curse mark on her leg after the disastrous attack on the Ravenclaw tower during her second year. It was not a pleasant experience. She was up on her feet until everybody else had been taken care of and then only stayed to help Sam fall asleep before leaving the hospital wing altogether. She could probably learn a thing or two from Kim.
“All right, I’ll tell him the basics but you should write him about it too. I’m sure he’d rather hear the details from you. It was your duel after all. He’ll want to know how you feel about it otherwise he’ll be worried and probably nag me to haunt you down for him.” The witch shook her head. Charles obviously cared for Kim a great deal. He may have lost his own brother and still persistently looked for him but he cared for the Gryffindor in the very same way. If he was given a choice, he would have no doubt chosen to attend Hogwarts rather than Ilvermorny. It made her wonder what House would he be sorted into. Pretty sure he’d be Gryffindor too. She decided quickly.
“It's good that we've never been matched up with each other as of yet. We'd both end up in the hospital and then who would come see us?” Eun-ji shrugged at that. Genuinely not seeing a problem with that one. “Don't worry. I'd still come to see you. I'm good at roaming around hospitals but I'm absolutely terrible at staying in one.” Thinking about it for a moment Eun-ji wasn't sure if Kim knew what she meant by said statement. “My dad always says I'm the worst kind of patient a doctor can have. The minute he turns around, I'm already gone.” She huffed, seemingly amused. This is because she could visualize her father’s exact expression as he said so. Wasn't it kind of his fault though? Afterall, he was the same when it came to resting. He simply could not do it. “Besides...you have plenty people at Hogwarts that care for you deeply. If I'm not here, someone else will come.” She added as an afterthought. Of this she was quite certain though the same couldn’t be said for her. If Kim couldn’t visit her, who would? She had already pushed almost everybody that cared about her away. The only two other people close to her were Flash and Lucia but she had a big fall out with the Hufflepuff few days prior to this and Flash had so much on his plate already he might not even realise she’d end up here.“Not that I’d want to duel with you in the first place. It sounds exciting in theory but I’m sure I would hate it. Hurting others is not something I enjoy but I’d absolutely loathe it if it was my friend on the receiving side.” Thankfully so far, she was never put against anybody she knew too well but she dreaded the day it would happen all the same.

| ─── | Kim nodded at Eun-ji's words.
"Same." He told her, intending on coming to support her at her matches too if he could do so. The fact that Julian had been one of Eun-ji's opponents too was interesting to note. Kim wondered how her duel had gone back then, as he'd been unable to attend at the time. He could still remember his own. It had been a match filled with Spell-Spreads and Knockback Jinxes. Pericles Dralt had been a difficult opponent to go up against, that was for sure. He'd ended up getting knocked out before the duel had come to an end but he'd been the fourth one to go, leaving only two behind to fight it out. That duel had been a very unique one. It represented when everything had changed in the dueling scene. As it had been the first time a match was held between three different teams at once, rather than just two teams. Kim had managed to stay on his feet for a long time, even though he'd never been in an official duel before until that point. So being able to say he was the fourth, out of six people, to have been knocked out was an impressive feat. Kim nodded as Eun-ji agreed with him about staying for a bit longer at the hospital wing. But it wasn't as if he had anywhere to be. Or else he'd have left regardless. "Mm. I'll send him a letter after I can focus better." Kim reassured Eun-ji, not wanting her to worry. Eun-ji's next words made Kim smirk a little. "Truthfully, I'd probably be the same. I'd be worried about you if you were knocked out and would need to see with my own eyes that you were fine." He told her and raised a brow when she spoke about her father. She didn't really talk about her family or parents that much. And although Kim knew a lot about them and her situation from Charles, he also wanted to hear it from Eun-ji too. From the way she spoke about her father, she seemed to care for the man. Kim raised a brow again as Eun-ji spoke of how many people cared for him at Hogwarts. "Are you sure? I think most of them are just being friendly and polite to me. They don't actually care for me." He said, not really believing that anyone at Hogwarts did care about him. They didn't really know him, so how could they truly care about him if they didn't know who he was? Only Gia was different as she was one of his rare childhood friends who also attended Hogwarts. The others... well he wasn't sure about, not really. They didn't know the true him. "Regardless, I'll always visit you if you're hurt. You can't keep me away!" Kim teased her. As Eun-ji spoke about how she didn't ever want to duel him in an official match, Kim nodded. "Yeah, I wouldn't want to either, although I wouldn't hold back if we did face eachother. After all, it's a duel and our duty is to win it for our team and House. Right?" He said and let out a sigh a few seconds later. "But I'd feel guilty about it afterward and would 100% see you at the hospital wing later on." Kim added. He let his blue eyes flicker over her for a moment... "How are you feeling?" |
