Interacting with @Lucas ChapmanIt may be cold, but right now the courtyard is empty, and the perfect place for some studying. Dora took Ruby's advice to heart, no matter how awkward their meeting had been otherwise. If Dora is having trouble with her marks, she needs to make more time for studying so she can bring them up. It's a better option than seeking out a Professor, anyways. Dora's not sure she'd be brave enough to do that.
She sits in her usual spot, next to the statues on the fountain. The carved griffins remind her a bit of the cemetery back home, and as such they help to relax her. She has her History book open, and she's reading about the Werewolf Code of Conduct. The topic makes her nervous, but it's still quite interesting. Dora just hopes she never has a first hand encounter with a werewolf.
Then, she turns to read ahead. Professor Zahid had said they'd be learning about the Soap Blizzard soon, and it's best to be prepared. Especially since this is Dora's worst performing class... Drawing her cloak tighter around her in the brisk air, she tries to block out everything around her so she can focus.
Mentioning @Ruby Cazares and @Zahid al-Benghazi ibn Masoud

Productivity didn't really come naturally to Lucas, so after a few attempts at getting some reading done in the libary, he finally gave up and packed his books away itno his bag. Maybe if he went for a quick walk, and used up some of his excess energy, he'd finally be able to concentrate again.
As he idly wandered around, he eventually found himself in the court yard, which was suprisingly empty except from one person, who he did not immediately recognise. He was caught a bit off guard by how cold it was, so he simply pulled his robes tighter around himself, and lowered himself onto a seat. It was then that he began to look around the court yard, and his gaze settled on the sole other person sat here, and he felt a strange sense of recognition when he looked at her. It took him a moment, but when he realised who it was, he found himself grinning.
"Isadora." He stood up with a grin, slowly making his way over towards her, trying to think up what to say. He bit back any intitial instincts about trying to tease her, it felt strange without Bradley being here. He was also sort of curious about how she would respond to seeing him, he hadn't been too bad compared to Bradley, but he had joined in with teasing her in the past. "Never occured to me we'd be at Hogwarts together.. A shame Bradley isn't quite here yet though."

Interacting with @Lucas ChapmanThat voice! No, it can't be...
Dora freezes in place when she hears it. 'Oh no..' Slowly, she looks up from her book to see Lucas Chapman standing over her, grinning. She can't help but tense up when she sees him, preparing for some mocking remark.
"Never occurred to me we'd be at Hogwarts together.. A shame Bradley isn't quite here yet though."
A shame indeed. The Chapman's and Everridge's run in similar circles, so it was no wonder he and Bradley became friends, being of a similar age and all. And because Bradley often poked fun at Dora, saying that she looks creepy, she dresses like an old woman, she's so gloomy... well, his friends would get in on the fun. Lucas Chapman is no exception.
Dora should have anticipated this. She should have assumed they'd be attending school together, that she would run into him sooner or later. She waits for the teasing to commence, the same things he would say around Bradley and laugh about. When he doesn't say anything else, Dora sits up rigidly straight and folds her hands tightly over her now-closed book. She doesn't quite look him in the eye when she replies in monotone. "Hello, Lucas. How are you today?" She wishes he would just have his fun already and leave her alone.

Lucas tried to peer down to see what she was reading, but to little avail, as she had already began to close the book as he leant in. Her greeting to him hadn't quite been what he expected, but in all honesty, he wasn't sure what his expectations had been. Perhaps a stream of insults, or something in that vain, but not a relatively impassive greeting.
"I'm good, but a bit bored." He responsed with a small pause, not entierly sure to act around her without Bradley, he wasn't even sure if they'd spent much, if any, time without him present. His eyes scanned around her robes for a moment, eventually making out hints of yellow that indicates her house. "Huflepuff?" He snorted. "Fitting, I suppose." Admittedly, he hadn't really had much actual experiences with Hufflepuffs yet, so he was just basing his opinion from his dad's mainly, who had not spoke of the house highly.
"How you finding it all so far? Quite what your parents said it'd be?" It was a weird balance for him, as he held back his instincs, and would attempt to be at least somewhat cordial with her for the time being.

Interacting with @Lucas ChapmanSo, he seems content to stick around. Just perfect. Dora really likes this spot for studying, but she may have to abandon it if he starts coming around here more often.
"Hufflepuff? Fitting, I suppose." Lucas laughs, and Dora holds the book imperceptibly tighter. Yes, she knows her family would prefer her as any other house than Hufflepuff. It still stings to hear Lucas point it out, though. Part of her is also indignant about it. Sure, she may not be much, but there are plenty of great Hufflepuffs in her house! Tesla, Rita, and Avery, just to name a few. It's not fair for him to degrade them. He doesn't even know them!
She sneaks a peak at his robes, spotting the red Gryffindor insignia emblazoned on one side. House of the brave and mighty, and arrogant, according to her grandmother. "Gryffindor. Fitting for you as well." She replies curtly, emboldened for just a moment before she feels so small again.
"How you finding it all so far? Quite what your parents said it'd be?"
Parents? Dora freezes up for a moment, though she's usually so still nobody would notice a difference. With Bradley's friends, it's always been a fear that he would let the truth about her father slip. But, even he wouldn't say anything if it meant risking the family reputation. No, she's just imagining things. Still, it could have been a jab at her living with her grandparents. Her mother's absence during winter break is still a sore wound, and not one Dora intends to aggravate by bringing it up with Lucas, of all people.
"My grandmother prepared me thoroughly." She quietly corrects him, hoping he won't pry into the details. "You?"
Dora just wants to leave, but polite society keeps her cemented in place.

"Really?" He muttered, seemingly somewhat suprised by her saying Gryffindor was fitting, as it wasn't something that he really agreed with. He grabbed at his robes, twisting it slightly so that he could peer down at the badge. Despite his words and his actual thoughts on the matter, he had a proud grin on his face as he looked down at the insignia.
Lucas' eyes narrowed slightly when she said grandmother instead of parents, confused as to why a grandmother would have done that and not her parents. "They tried to, but I guess I didn't listen properly to what they were saying or I just imagined stuff being way smaller than it actually is."
"I enjoy most of what my dad expected that I'd enjoy with the classes. Must be alot for some of the mud-" He cut himself off before he finished it. He was more than aware that it wasn't a great word, but after hearing his parents, particularly his mum, say it for his whole life, it easily just slipped out. "Muggleborns." He corrected, before continuing on.
"It must be quite a lot for them of them, having no preperation at all." He said in a somewhat uncharateristic show of empathy. However, after only a moment, he reached down to try and grab the book she was reading. "Let me see that."

Interacting with @Lucas ChapmanDora feels like she's shrinking when Lucas' eyes narrow at her. Thankfully, though, he doesn't push the parents issue. Instead, he talks about how big Hogwarts feels, Dora nodding agreeably as she listens. He's not wrong on that account. Even compared to Everridge Manor, Hogwarts castle is massive, and seems even larger on the inside on occasion.
"I enjoy most of what my dad expected that I'd enjoy with the classes. Must be alot for some of the mud- Muggleborns."
She hears the word nearly slip out from under his tongue: Mudblood. Dora knows a lot of people use that name to insult muggleborns, but that language was never permitted in her grandmother's house. Not that her grandmother liked muggles at all, but she said the name pointed to a lack of decorum in those who use it. Moreover, Dora learned that Death Eaters used to say it, and they were murderers. Sometimes Bradley will say it to be funny, but Dora doesn't like to. It feels mean.
Lucas's words aren't entirely callous, showing something even like sympathy for them. And while Lucas isn't outright saying it, she knows what he means. Muggleborns generally don't have as much magical potential as wizard borns. It's sad, but true. And when he says it, she can't help but avert her eyes as if he can see right through her. What would he call her if he knew?
"Let me see that."
Dora lets out a surprised breath when Lucas snatches her book away without asking.
"I-It's just my History book." She explains anxiously, "I'm studying.. Please give it back.."

Lucas flicked open the book, his eyes briefly scanning through the blurb and the first page before he heard her speak up. As she spoke, he lowered the book slightly, revealing a very amused grin on his face. "Hold on a second.. Sharing is caring, you know?" He lifted it back up, lazily flicking through the pages. seeing if anything caught his eye. "You'll get it back though, don't worry, I'm not a thief." He sounded oddly serious as he spoke about not being a thief, as it was something that he wanted to very clear in establishing.
"I don't get it.." He muttered, finally lowering the book. She could probably grab at it should she wish, but he made no effort in holding it out to her at this stage. "History of Magic is so boring, why bother studying this stuff?" Perhaps it was another case of Lucas being negligent with his work load, but it was one of the three subjects that he couldn't even begin to want to study.
"Did you pa-" His eyes once again narrowed, pausing before saying parents. After a brief moments pause, he corrected it to say "Does your Grandma make your study this stuff or do you actually find it interesting?"

Interacting with @Lucas ChapmanDora's frown deepens when Lucas doesn't give the book back. She sits there uncomfortably, hands curled into fists on her lap as she anxiously watches him flip through it. It takes a lot of restraint not to grab it and hold it close to her chest. She doesn't like people looking through her things without permission. Even though he says he'll give it back, she's not sure whether to believe him.
After reading some of the textbook, Lucas shakes his head with a frown. "I don't get it.. History of Magic is so boring, why bother studying this stuff? Did your pa- Does your Grandma make your study this stuff or do you actually find it interesting?"
Dora stands up stiffly, inching closer as her eyes dart to the book. "It's not that boring." She defends, noticing his slip up when he almost says 'parents' again. "I mean, yes, my grandmother tells me to study. But how else will we get high marks?" Maybe Lucas doesn't have to care about his marks, but Dora sure does. She has to study everyday to do well enough to please her family. She can't help but resent his laissez faire attitude a little.
A cool wind blows through the courtyard, the chill making Dora's skin prickle. Lucas' fingers press awkwardly against the book pages, causing them to crease. "Please give it back now." Dora pleads again, tension rising the longer he holds it.

"Really?" He raised an eyebrow slightly, looking down at her as she defended the subject. "Don't you think Transfiguration or DADA are much more interesting?" He returned his gaze back to the book, continuing to flick through it until he reached a page on werewolves.
"Disgusting creatures." He said with a scowl, looking down at the pages Isadora had been previously looking at. The view wasn't based off much, but every story, or any bit of reading he had done about werewolves, had further cemented his view that they were truly detestable creatures. Unlike her expectations, Lucas was meant to care about his grade, and had pressure from his parents to push for higher grades, but he just struggled to care. "I'd study for potions or something, maybe, but this.. I dunno, just I couldn't force myself to such torture."
As she continued to beg for the book, the normal easy going grin became almost cruel, enjoying as she got increasingly frustrated. It also added to the amusement that it wasn't actually out of reach for her, and she could very easily make a grab for it. "Take it back then, Dizzy." He said, repeating a nickname that he had heard Bradley call her on a couple of occasions.
